Be Sure To Make The Trek to Gateway
There is a particular place out West thought to be the most beautiful
and grand - the canyon country southwest of Grand Junction, in Colorado.
Appropriately, the road to Gateway from Grand Junction, a 45-minute
section of Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway 141, is beautiful enough
to film car commercials on. In sections it's like driving down the
center of a small-scale Grand Canyon with red, red rocks beneath a blue,
blue Colorado sky.
For anyone who loves classic automobiles, the Gateway Auto Museum
is a must-see attraction in western Colorado. It is home to an
awesome collection of vehicles that represent over 100 years of
automobile history.
John S. Hendricks, (Discovery Communications founder) merged his
love of the West with his love for classic cars. The museum features
the Hendricks Collection. More than 50 of his vehicles are on display
at any given time. They are rare, classic, and pristine. His most
expensive automobile, a 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Concept Car was purchased
for $3 million.
This acquisition made automotive history. It is in the
cornerstone of the Gateway Colorado Automobile
Museum, in its own special room in a rotating display,
worthy of this one and only rare Golden Rocket F-88!
