Not so with me. Driving made me nervous. I didn't get a license until I turned 24 years old. As a result, when I first married, we only had one car and car pooled to work. My husband's hours were different from mine by one hour. I worked earlier. So he dropped me off and went to the diner to drink coffee until work time. Then, in the afternoons, I leisurely walked the three miles to his work place where I waited in his car, reading a book. One day while waiting for him, I noticed the most beautiful Cadillac pull in the lot. It was powder blue and sleek looking. The kind of car you dream about. I was busily admiring the car, when I noticed the driver. Honestly, she was probably the prettiest woman I had ever seen off the movie screen. She pulled into the spot beside our car and it was all I could do not to stare. There was a striking resemblance to Liz Taylor. Jet black hair and alabaster skin. Our eyes made contact and she smiled at me. Her eyes were as blue as the sea, and teeth like an even row of pearls. She was wearing a light blue shirt that just matched her car. Peeking through her long, softly curled hair I could see gold hoop earrings. They had to be gold to shine like that. A couple of minutes later, a nice looking man came out the building, entered her car, leaned over and kissed her and she drove away. Sitting there in my jeans, shirt and hair in a pony tail, I wanted to cry. How could some people have it all? Maybe I would have forgotten about her, but the following week, I saw her again. Then it became almost routine to see her about once a week. She seemed friendly and always waved, flashing a big smile. My envy lingered long after she drove away. Many nights when sleep evaded me, I would think about the beautiful lady. I wondered if she and her husband ate out, and where they dined, and what she was wearing. I wanted her to get out of the car and let me see her full length. Did she wear really high heeled shoes and pants, or a skirt. I would get my answers in a couple of weeks. Sitting in our usual parking lot, I was holding my book, watching her over the top of it. She was waiting and when her husband came to the car, she called to him. They spoke a few words and he opened the car door for her to step out. He took her arm and helped her out of the car. I could see very well as she moved to get out. She was wearing a skirt. She haltingly walked around to the passenger side very slowly, leaning on a walking cane. Sitting sideways in the car, she lifted one leg with her hands and then the other one. The beautiful lady had a prosthesis on the left leg and a brace on the right leg. I couldn't watch them drive away as the tears were blinding me. For weeks I had envied this woman and her way of life, while I had been able to walk three miles to our car! When my husband arrived and found me crying, he immediately asked what was wrong. Through my tears, I told him about the beautiful lady. He said he knew her husband and also knew the story. The beautiful lady and her parents were in a car that either stalled or got caught on the railroad tracks was hit by a train. Both parents were killed and she was severely injured. She was only 12 years old. The railroad made a large settlement with her because the crossing had no signals. He explained her car was specially built for her needs as well as the home. I prayed for forgiveness all the way home. The lady I thought had everything didn't. I thanked God over and over for my legs, arms and sight, and for teaching me a lesson early on in life. When you meet a person who seems to be much better off than you, don't be fooled. I would not have traded places with the beautiful lady for anything -- I still had my parents, and the ability to walk, run or dance through life. Wonderful things money can't buy. -- Clara Wersterfer __________________________________________________ Clara resides in Texas. --- ...See This page: _|\ _/|_, ,((\\``-\\\\_ ,(()) `))\ ,(())) ,_ \ ((())' | \ ))))) >.__ \ (((' / `-. .c| hjw / `-`' ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING 5! How many of us have repeated that beloved movie phrase when trying to explain life’s “why’s"? Some prefer to use the card game comparison: “We’ve all been dealt a different hand." Shrek tried to explain to Donkey that his life was like an onion; having many layers! We all have symbols, images, and metaphors with which we compare life. Jesus’ parables were filled with metaphors and life comparisons. He sought the easiest way to help us understand life in Him and the way to eternal life. He shared with us the symbols he lived by. One of these symbols is a cup. While in the Garden praying, Jesus asked that God remove from Him “this cup" (Luke 22:42) -- the hand that he had been dealt; the cup that had been filled and must be drunk. Jesus would suffer with this cup, He anguished at the thought of it. (Luke 22:44) Jesus’ life was wrapped up in that cup. Accepting this cup meant rejection, loneliness and humiliation. In verse 43, we see that an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him! Jesus chose to accept that up. He chose the path of forgiveness, love, and mercy in the face of death. He is our ultimate example in life and death. We will all come to a moment in our lives when we will have to consider the life we have lived; the choices we made; the paths we took. If you had the opportunity, what would you have done differently? What mattered most? BUT, we still have life ahead of us! So the question instead is: “How can I live differently?" “What matters most?" I hope that in the end the answer is: Jesus. Live the rest of your time on earth for Jesus. He already accepted the “hand you were dealt" for you, and He paid your debt! It doesn’t matter what “chocolate" you choose because all will be sweet when you have Jesus! Fill each “layer" with the promise of God’s Eternal life for you by allowing Jesus to be the ultimate Symbol of your life. It will be a life worth living! Suggested Prayer: “I love you, Lord, for your mercy never fails me. All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands. From the moment that I wake up, until I lay my head, Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God. ‘Cause all my life You have been faithful and all my life You have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God!"2 Amen. 1. Psalm 16:11 (ESV). 2. “Goodness of God" Song by CeCe Winans. If he had been here, we think he would have done something by now. However, today's passage says that nothing can separate us from the love of God through Christ. There is no circumstance, no matter how bad, that can separate us from God's love. In fact, "we are more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37), and our difficulties will only help transform us into the image of Christ. Not even the time. Nothing we have experienced in the past, what we face today, or what we encounter in the future can separate us from Christ. He is always with us (Matthew 28:20). Nor powers. No evil entity that tries to deceive us can win over the Lord, who holds us firmly in His hands. Nothing created. If God calls you His own, nothing and no one, not even yourself, can break that relationship (Romans 8:39). Difficulties are not an indication that God has forgotten us, they are just part of our life in this world. Remember that your heavenly Father is with you even when you don't feel it. He has "engraved you on the palm of his hand" (Isaiah 49:16). Suggested Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, I want to thank you because through your Word you remind me that neither events, nor time, nor any evil entity, nor any created thing will be able to separate me from your love. Thank you that you call me yours. Beloved Father, I want to thank you that you are with me every moment of my life, even when I don't feel it. Thank you that I am engraved in the palm of your hand. I paused for a moment on top of the steps leading to the avenue, now crowded with people rushing to their jobs. Sitting in her usual place inside a small archway was the old flower lady. At her feet corsages and boutonnieres were parading on top of a spread-open newspaper. The flower lady was smiling, her wrinkled old face alive with some inner joy. I started down the stairs—then, on an impulse, turned and picked out a flower. As I put it in my lapel, I said, “You look happy this morning.” “Why not? Everything is good.” She was dressed so shabbily and seemed so very old that her reply startled me. “You’ve been sitting here for many years now, haven’t you? And always smiling. You wear your troubles well.” “You can’t reach my age and not have troubles,” she replied. “Only it’s like Jesus and Good Friday...” She paused for a moment. “Yes?” I prompted. “Well, when Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, that was the worst day for the whole world. And when I get troubles I remember that, and then I think of what happened only three days later — Easter and our Lord arising. So when I get troubles, I’ve learned to wait three days... somehow everything gets all right again.” And she smiled good-bye. Her words still follow me whenever I think I have troubles. Give God a chance to help... wait three days. The above article originally appeared in Guideposts magazine. --- ...See this great teaching: . | . \ | / `. \ ' / .' `. .-*""*-. .' Even our mother was afraid of him. As children, my sister and I thought every family was like that. Every family had an unpredictable dad who was impossible to please and a praying mama who was there to protect the children. We thought God planned it that way. We were good children. Mama was always telling us we were, even if Daddy couldn't see it. Part of this was because we dared not do anything. We were quiet, timid children who rarely spoke, especially never when Daddy was home. People thought God had blessed Mama with the sweetest girls. She was always so proud. Then came the day we found something new and fun to do. It wouldn't upset anyone; we'd never take the risk of doing that. We discovered we could draw pictures with chalk on our wooden front door, and it would rub right off. We could have lots of fun, so we set to work drawing and making lots of pretty pictures all over it. We had a great time. It surprised us to see how talented we were. We decided to finish our masterpiece, knowing Mama would just love it. She would want all her friends to come and see it, and maybe they would want us to do their doors, too. The praise we expected did not come. Instead of seeing the obvious beauty in our work, all Mama could see was the time and effort she would need to clean it off. She was mad. We did not understand why, but we knew all about anger, and we were in big trouble! Off we ran to find a place to hide. In our wooded yard it was not hard for two small children to find safety. Together, we huddled behind a tree and did not move. Soon we heard the frightened voices of Mom and our neighbors calling out to us. Still we did not budge. They were afraid we had run away or drowned in the pond out back. We were afraid of being found. The sun set, and it began to get dark. Those around us became more anxious, and we became more frightened. Time was slipping by, and the longer we hid there, the harder it was to come out. Mom was, by now, convinced something awful had happened to us, and she resorted to calling the police. We could hear all the voices drawn together in a group. Then the search was on again, this time with strong male voices overpowering the others. If we were frightened before, now we were terrified! As we clung together in the dark, we became aware of yet another voice, one we instantly recognized with horror: our daddy. But there was something strangely different about it. In it we heard something we had never heard before: fear, agony and despair. We couldn't put a name to it then, but that's what it was. Then came his prayers, tears and prayers intermingled together. Was that our daddy on his knees pleading with God? Our daddy with tears running down his face, promising God that he would give his life to him if he would safely return his girls? Nothing in our lives had prepared us for this kind of shock. Neither of us remembers making a decision to come out. We were drawn to him like a magnet, our fears dissolving into the forest. We don't know yet if we actually took steps or if God somehow moved us out and into Daddy's arms. What we do remember are those strong, loving arms holding us and crying, hugging us like we were precious. Things were different after that. We had a new daddy. It was like the old one was buried that day in the forest. God had taken him and replaced him with another, one who loved us and was ever thankful for us. Mama always told us that God was a God of miracles. I guess she was right. He changed our whole family with a piece of chalk. The old - "you are as young as you feel" rings true - most of the time. For Biden, it is not a question of 'if he is too old to be President for 4 more years' - the fact of the matter is that dementia is his problem. Someone with dementia is not able to function mentally or physically well because of it. The risk of dementia rises as you age, especially after age 65. However, dementia isn't a typical part of aging. Dementia also can occur in younger people. The definition of it is as follows: Dementia - noun Deterioration of intellectual faculties, such as memory, concentration, and judgment, resulting from an organic disease or a disorder of the brain. It is sometimes accompanied by emotional disturbance and personality changes. Insanity; madness; esp. that form which consists in weakness or total loss of thought and reason; mental imbecility; idiocy. Similar: insanity madness idiocy A progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. Areas particularly affected include memory, attention, judgement, language and problem solving. Because of this, Biden is not fit to be President now or later as this is a progressive decline and deterioration of his intellect. We've been seeing Biden's intellect declining rapidly. Unless he is given strong medication, he often gets lost in his thought processes and has a difficult time reading the monitor, finishing a sentence or knowing where he is. This is not someone who should be leading the greatest, most powerful country in the world. I'll take the graying hair, the creaking joints, the blurring eyes, the midnight potty jaunts and... well, I can't remember the other thing I was going to say, but I'll take that, too. I'll take it all gladly when I look at some of the stuff with which kids today have to deal, like going to the Prom. It's entirely possible that my memory is getting hazy on this, but I seem to remember that going to Prom required a corsage, a shirt with a ruffle, a dinner reservation and a date, not necessarily in that order. Going to a Prom today requires logistical planning on the order of D-Day, enough financial derring-do to make Donald Trump tremble and intense relationship counseling… For both the students and their parents. Take the task of asking the girl out, for example. Thirty years ago, the toughest thing about asking a girl to the Prom was getting her phone number, and bracing yourself for the possibility of the wrong answer (I could handle "no," it was the hysterical laughter that really got to me). But today, asking a girl to the Prom is a major production, often involving elaborate props, subterfuge, counter-intelligence and, occasionally, barely legal degrees of breaking-and-entering and vandalism. My nephew, Michael, was recently asked to a school dance by a girl who came to his home and asked his mother if she could "decorate" his bathroom. The girl filled the bathtub with water and dumped about 50 live goldfish in it, and posted a bunch of sea-going decorations and a big sign that said: "Of all the fish in the sea, I choose you!" The family spent most of the rest of the evening scooping goldfish out of the tub as they died. Thankfully, there were still a few goldfish living when Michael finally came home. Otherwise he would have missed the full effect of the invitation, not to mention the nasty visit from PETA. Oh, and it's not enough to extend an elaborate invitation. Apparently, you have to also respond in kind. That is why Michael said "yes" by going to the grocery store, buying a huge salmon (you know, with the head and eyes and fins and everything still attached), unwrapping it and leaving it on the girl's doorstep, with a note tacked to it saying: "Of all the fish in the sea, I choose you too!" Michael's mother, Julie, would like me to make it clear that he did this completely on his own, without any parental input, and that, as soon as Michael told her about it, she called the girl's mother to warn her that there was a dead fish on her doorstep. And why... And, according to Julie, the girl thought Michael's response was wonderful. Go figure. The Prom date itself is similarly creative, including a daytime activity, dinner, the dance and a post-dance activity, sometimes lasting into the next school year. For us, going to the Prom meant, well... going to the Prom. Of course, that meant going to dinner, too, and once in a while we got a little creative with that (remind me to tell you about the time we served Kentucky Fried Chicken in the back of a moving van). And sure, we always hoped for a little "post-dance activity," but that took place on the doorstep, under a way-too- bright porch light and usually with little brothers and sisters peeking through the curtains, watching. Then there are the dresses girls are wearing, or almost wearing, these days. The only places that are covered by fabric are places that a well-trained young man wouldn't touch. So where do you put your hands while you're dancing? (What's that? You don't touch each other when you dance these days? Not at all? So... what's the point?) All of this runs into a small fortune for those who wish to participate. I have it on good authority (a young friend of mine at church named Ryan) that to do a Prom right you'd better plan on spending at least $400. That's enough to keep me in thyroid medication for 10 years… And another reason I'm profoundly grateful to be old... - Joe Walker --- \_/ --(_)-- . / \ /_\ |Q| .-----' '-----. __ /____[SCHOOL]___\ ())) | [] .-.-. As we learn more of our Heavenly Father and ponder His "deeper truths," we must never forget that "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). The truth of all scripture is that God loves us and is inviting us to join Him, to know Him and enjoy Him, for all eternity. The Apostle Peter understood the importance of fundamentals. He wrote his second letter to warn us against false teaching and to remind us that, as we step out in faith, we have been given all the necessary tools to accomplish what God desires for our life; "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3). Peter taught that when we place our trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, we receive everything we need to live a victorious life; "so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires" (2 Peter 1:4). The real challenge of our Christian walk is not in acquiring new and "greater" gifts, but in learning how to best utilize what we have already received. Peter also wanted us to remember that Salvation is not the end of our journey; rather, it is the beginning of a long and wonderful walk which begins in faith and continues by growing ever closer to God through Christ. Since we have been given such a wonderful gift, we should "make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self- control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love" (2 Peter 1:5-7). We must continue to grow such that the end result - the highest quality of our Christian life - is love! Peter believed these to be fundamental truths, but truths which were necessary to often repeat! 2 Peter 1:12-13 "So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live." To ensure we don't wander down side paths filled with self-effort and self-importance, or stumble in the world's temptation of corruption and evil desires, we must continually return to the starting point of our faith. We must never forget that God loves us and desires to walk with us each and every day. All that we do must be directed by God and accomplished with the tools He has provided. Let's dig deep at every opportunity, but let's remain lovingly close to His side and always remember the basics. Have a Christ Centered Day! We are called to grow and mature, but never to "grow" such that we are led away from the simple and unchanging truth: God loves us so much that He provided a way to restore a right relationship with Him through faith in His Son. Jesus died so we could live! Does this awesome act of love still amaze us, or have we "matured" to more "important" matters? Matthew 18:3 "And He said: 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'" When my daughter was four years old, we read the Bible story about young Samuel. While discussing this story, my daughter showed me the excited faith God calls us to maintain. Perhaps her faith could teach us all... As a young boy, Samuel was ministering with an old priest named Eli. One night God called to Samuel, but Samuel thought it was Eli's voice. Eli said he had not called and told Samuel to go back to bed. After God called a few more times, Samuel realized who was calling and answered: "Speak, for Your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10). God then gave Samuel a message - but the message was all about Eli. My daughter asked, "Why did God speak to Samuel if the message was really to Eli?" We talked about how we must be ready and willing to hear God. I said Eli may have had some problems or distractions in his life which kept him from hearing God, so God spoke His message through a child. I said little kids (like her) can often hear God better than older people (like me). "But, I don't hear God talk to me," she said, with a little disappointment in her voice. I explained how God doesn't usually speak so we can hear Him with our ears; rather, His Spirit speaks to our heart and we hear Him as we listen to our heart. Her little eyes widened, "Like today when I was going to sit on one of the baby toys - Jesus told my heart I was too big and shouldn't do it so I listened to what He said." I encouraged her that this is exactly how God speaks to us, we just need to learn how to listen and then obey. My daughter thought for a moment and then slowly shook her head in amazement: "Wow! That's sooooo cool!!" Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word never becomes just an interesting collection of stories. You created us, loved us, and will one day call us Home to be with You for all eternity - and Father, that's sooooo cool!! Help us to come into Your presence with a thankful and loving heart. Strengthen our faith every day and allow us to continually look on You and Your wonders with a childlike amazement. Have a Christ Centered Day! They're excited that they are going to surprise daddy. Then on Christmas morning they come and say, 'Daddy, here is a blessing for you.' It ultimately came from you, but it was a blessing because it came back with their love." The jailer . . . put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks." - Acts 16:23-24 (NLT) Shortly after arriving in Philippi on his second missionary journey, Paul was arrested, beaten, and thrown into the local jail along with his traveling companion, Silas. What happened next had never happened before and will never be forgotten. Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. (Acts 16:25 NLT) As these two men lay chained and wounded, the Bible tells us that they began to pray and sing hymns. Then suddenly, the ground shook, the walls crumbled, the doors swung open, and the bonds were broken (Acts 16:26). It was a divine jail-break and an outpouring of God's power. But notice where it call began: It began with prayer. Notice how the Bible tells us their prayers transitioned into praise and worship. There's an incredibly thin line between prayer and praise, especially prayers of adoration. After all, praise is the natural vocal extension of an attitude of adoration. Someone once defined the difference this way; "Worship is the prayer of adoration at full volume." The point for us to ponder is the close connection between prayer, praise, and the power of God that follows. It may not result in a jail-break. But it may involve the breaking of some spiritual and emotional bonds, and it may include freedom from something so enslaving that we've stopped looking for the key a long time ago. God wants to set us free from those things, but we need to remember that it all starts with prayer. Dig into Acts 16:22-30. How does this story inspire you? How does God's deliverance demonstrate His heart? What part does prayer play in this miracle? "Consider your ways!" (Haggai 1:5) he declared, urging them to reflect on some of the things happening to them, and to evaluate their slipshod spirituality in light of what God had told them. Even those most faithful to God occasionally need to pause and think about the direction of their lives. It's so easy to bump along from one busy week to another without ever stopping to ponder where we're going and where we should be going. The beginning of a new year or our birthday is an ideal time to stop, look up, and get our bearings. To that end, here are some questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God. 1. What's one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God? 2. What's the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year? 3. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year? 4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it? 5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year? 6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church? 7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year? 8. What's the most important way you will, by God's grace, try to make this year different from last year? 9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year? 10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in ten years? In eternity? In addition to these ten questions, here are twenty-one more to help you "Consider your ways." Think on the entire list at one sitting, or answer one question each day for a month. 11. What's the most important decision you need to make this year? 12. What area of your life most needs simplifying, and what's one way you could simplify in that area? 13. What's the most important need you feel burdened to meet this year? 14. What habit would you most like to establish this year? 15. Who is the person you most want to encourage this year? 16. What is your most important financial goal this year, and what is the most important step you can take toward achieving it? 17. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your work life this year? 18. What's one new way you could be a blessing to your pastor (or to another who ministers to you) this year? 19. What's one thing you could do this year to enrich the spiritual legacy you will leave to your children and grandchildren? 20. What book, in addition to the Bible, do you most want to read this year? 21. What one thing do you most regret about last year, and what will you do about it this year? 22. What single blessing from God do you want to seek most earnestly this year? 23. In what area of your life do you most need growth, and what will you do about it this year? 24. What's the most important trip you want to take this year? 25. What skill do you most want to learn or improve this year? 26. To what need or ministry will you try to give an unprecedented amount this year? 27. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your commute this year? 28. What one biblical doctrine do you most want to understand better this year, and what will you do about it? 29. If those who know you best gave you one piece of advice, what would they say? Would they be right? What will you do about it? 30. What's the most important new item you want to buy this year? 31. In what area of your life do you most need change, and what will you do about it this year? The value of many of these questions is not in their profundity, but in the simple fact that they bring an issue or commitment into focus. For example, just by articulating which person you most want to encourage this year is more likely to help you remember to encourage that person than if you hadn't considered the question. If you've found these questions helpful, you might want to put them someplace—in a day planner, PDA, calendar, bulletin board, etc.—where you can review them more frequently than once a year. So let's evaluate our lives, make plans and goals, and live this new year with biblical diligence, remembering that, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage" (Proverbs 21:5). But in all things let's also remember our dependence on our King who said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Copyright © 2003 Donald S. Whitney. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." -- King David (Psalm 51:1-2, NIV) Richard Halverson in "Pulpit Helps" asked the question: "Who hasn't failed? The Apostle Paul failed, Peter failed, every one of the twelve apostles failed. David, Israel's greatest king, 'a man after God's own heart,' failed. Moses, giant among the Israelites, giver of the law, deliverer of his people, failed. Jacob, father of Israel, failed. Isaac, son of promise, failed. Abraham, progenitor of Israel, father of the faithful, prototype of those who are righteous through faith, failed. Even our first parents, in their human perfection, failed. Who hasn't failed?" It's not the failure that is the issue. It's what we do when we fail that matters most. We can beat ourselves up if we are perfectionistic. We can laugh it off or deny it if we are too insecure, too afraid, or too proud to admit it. Or we can acknowledge it, confess it to God, get up, brush off the dust, learn from it and grow. However, if we keep failing at the same point over and over, chances are that it's the symptom of a deeper problem -- or the "fruit of a deeper root." This, too, we need to acknowledge; seek God's help and, if necessary, the help of a pastor to help us get to the root cause of our repeated failure and resolve it at that level. Whatever the cause of our failure/s, the important thing is to get up just one more time than we have failed or fallen down, learn from the experience and grow. Remember, too, it's not God's goal to make us good but to make us whole and the more whole and mature we become the less we will fail. Also remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. . .neither is the "making whole" of our life. In fact, it's a life-long process! "Suggested prayer: "Dear God, thank you that you are a friend of sinners, forgiver of failures, giver of mercy to confessors, and healer of wounded hearts. Forgive me where I have failed. Heal me where I am wounded. Deliver me where I am bound. Encourage me where I am afraid. . .set me free and make me whole. Gratefully in Jesus Christ's name. Amen." -<>- "The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country." - Calvin Coolidge, 30th U.S. President , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >WHY I BELIEVE THE BIBLE (By Dr. James MacDonald) "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and . . . gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:10-11 So what do you tell people when they ask, "You don't really believe all that stuff in the Bible, do you?" Of all the arguments you can use to defend your conviction, here's one no one can deny. "I believe the Bible because it accomplishes God's purpose in my life." Like God says in Isaiah 55:11, "[My Word] shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." Have you ever felt totally convicted as you sat under the teaching of God's Word? Has the Spirit of God ever used His Word like a knife, pointing out your specific thoughts and motives? I could tell you about times God's Word has worked me over. On the flip side, has the Bible ever delivered a peace that transcends understanding? Has it strengthened you as it has me? I wish you could see what I see from the front of my church every weekend as I teach God's Word. I look across the faces of people gripped by God's eternal truth. Tears stream down their cheeks. Some can hardly look up because they're under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. Hear this - God's Word is always effective in doing the job that He intended it to do. I am convinced beyond any doubt that the Bible is divinely inspired in its totality, inerrant in doctrine, infallible in authority, immeasurable in influence, personal in application, regenerative in power, diverse in its unity, and infinitely trustworthy. This reality not only compels me to celebrate it, but to obey it. Why? Because I've experienced it. Starting today, make a greater personal investment in God's Word. You've got the time - just set your priorities. Make it the passion of your life to discover what it means to delight in the law of the Lord (Psalm 119:77). And the next time someone asks you, "do you believe the Bible?" proclaim your confidence in God and the book He has written by answering, "I am glad you asked. . . ."
