They were saying in our area that we would probably get a bunch of rain, but instead we got a bunch of sleet and ice and rain that froze quickly causing our whole town to be cold and dark blanketed under about an inch of ice. We had downed tree limbs and power lines. The funny part of it is that our local big store Wal-Mart had electric power so the line to it was like a mile long! Everyone from the county must of been there along with the city too! I am thankful we had a gas stove or we'd been frozen here with it getting in the teens and high only around 30F! As it was, we were about the last in town to get power and the county folk are still suffering! We are supposed to be getting two more storms coming in so the last of my shopping has got to be done today. Oh boy, oh joy! So guess what? I'm cheating today for our already late inspirations and picking a 'Shangy Christmas Past' for us today from one I sent out before in December 2002. Enjoy :) ============================ >-->From Our Friend Kent: Happy Birthday celebration ... You'll notice that I put, "Happy birthday celebration", as the subject line of this email. Well a lot of folks will tell you that scientists and other people say that December 25th is not the true day that Jesus Christ was born. Well I don't know if it is or isn't the actual day. After all our calendar was engineered by man, and we know that man is fallible at best. One thing I do know is that Jesus was born to the virgin Mary on a day, so He does deserve to have a birthday. Don't you agree? So most of us choose December 25th as the day that we celebrate the greatest event in the history of man since the creation of the world and the wonders that God performed. So lets shout it out to the world; "Happy Birthday Jesus, we love You!!" Count this as my Christmas card to you all. I never did like buying them. : ) All of you mean so much to me. I love you and always keep you in my prayers. Kent Delp ------------------ ... Thank You Kent! That was very sweet of you. Often this time of year, folks are depressed - more suicides happen during the holidays then any other time. I think if we take the advice of Dr. Phil and along with what Kent is reminding us of, then Christmas time will be a time of joy and not sadness. Dr. Phil says that most often when we get upset, mad, or depressed about something, it is because our expectations are set too high. If we lower what we expect, chances are we will have our key to happiness. Things change, people change, we change - it is all a part of normal healthy growth. The dead sea is the dead sea because it does not change - it does not have any flow of water going out - only coming in and that makes it stagnant - dead. Change is life and life is change. I think so many people get depressed over the holidays because they are looking back in the past for what they used to have or they are looking to some 'dream-like' version of what they hope things will be. Of course reality is not there to meet their dreams. Either they must do something to make reality more like their dream world or they must lower their dream of what things should be like so that reality can at least come close to fitting their bill. If we keep in mind that we are celebrating a birthday. The birthday of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, then we just might help keep those expectations down. Reality check - it is not about who gets the best present for Mom or Dad or your sweetheart or the kids. Reality check - it is not about who has the best decorations of the office, family or neighborhood. Reality check - it is not about who has the best dinner or party favors of the family or the office or whatever! Lets keep it real. It is about celebrating the birth of our Lord the best most loving way we can individually to God our Father and to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I like to play the 'What If' game. Do this one with yourself and come up with your own personal reality check. 'The What If Game' What if you had the opportunity right now as you are reading this to have your Lord Jesus Christ be in person next to you and you knew in your heart it was up to you to treat Him as your personal guest for the next 8 hours? What if you decided to give Him a tour of all your town to show Him how everyone was honoring Him with their wonderful show of decorations and lights for His up and coming Birthday celebration? What if you and you alone had this honor of His company? How great would it be? Wowsers! See how much fun this game is? Now - think about this... What would you serve Him as a drink or refreshment while you drove Him around town? Do you think He'd want a soda pop, coffee, or maybe punch? Perhaps just some water? Do you think He's ever been personally in a motor vehicle before Or actually ever tasted coffee, soda, or punch? Do you think it would be neat to show Him all this modern stuff considering He hasn't been on earth for the last 2000 and some years? What if while He is drinking His soda and looking at all the beautiful decorations people have put up just for His birthday celebration, He asks you 'Who is this guy in the red suit I keep seeing?'? What are you going to tell Him? Playing the 'What If' game kinda puts the holidays into perspective doesn't it? What if you could invite Him to your own table to sup with you on the day we celebrate His birthday - on Dec. 25th? Wouldn't that be neat to actually have Him join you at His own birthday celebration dinner - what we often refer to as Christmas dinner? Wow! Ahh, what if ... this has just been a game, but what if it could be real? What if you actually could have Jesus Christ with you this holiday time? Reality check - this HAS been bought and paid for by God and His only begotten son. The check is real. Just cash it in and keep in mind that WHEREVER YOU ARE So IS CHRIST for it is God In Christ In You when you believe and become God's as Romans 10:9,10 says! So hey, start living with the real you instead of the fantasy you. After all, You have the gift of Holy Spirit inside of you 24-7! When you celebrate this year, celebrate WITH God and Jesus Christ. All ya gotta do is invite them :) Rev.3:20-22 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. -- Oh, when I play this game and am askeed who the dude in the red suit is, I hand my Lord a milk chocolate replica of santa. After just one bite, He knows why all the little kids love this old guy in the red suit and why so many have him in lights in their yard. He smiles at me and nods with understanding. Chocolate is Yummy!! ..... Have A MERRY Christmas With GOD's BLESSINGS Every One!! .... :) ========================================================================= >-->>* An Award Winning Heartwarmer * CHRISTMAS PRESENCE by Lissa Lee I have always been a less than adequate speller. Practice and learning phonics with my children has aided in my improvement, but sometimes I still get it wrong. And, sometimes it can be in the most embarrassing ways. Several years ago, I had planned the family Christmas to be celebrated in my home. I had decorated, cooked and planned the entire event to the last detail. I had even mailed formal invitations to each family member. They read as follows: The honor of your presents Is requested on December 25th To a family celebration of Christmas At five o'clock in the evening. I didn't catch my mistake, but my entire family did. Being the good-humored bunch that they are and loving a practical joke, they all became conspirators. I had made it too easy for them to get a good laugh. Christmas evening, at exactly five o'clock, my doorbell rang. Putting on my best holiday smile and producing my warmest "Merry Christmas", I swung open the door, expecting to meet the cheery faces of relatives and loved ones. My salutation was caught in midair when, instead of family faces, I was greeted to an enlarged copy of my invitation with the word "presents" highlighted, and all the gifts everyone had planned to bring stacked neatly on my doorstep. No one was in sight. I began to hear snickers coming from the bushes along the side of my house. Realizing I had been "had", I collected the presents, brought them inside and closed the door. They weren't going to get the last laugh! I rushed to my bedroom, found a sheet of poster paper and wrote in large letters, "Thank you for your presents, I do hope you come again next year!", highlighting the word "presents". Then I taped it to my front door and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. We're a bunch of stubborn strong-headed Scots and admitting defeat wasn't going to come easily. Finally I relented, being I was the hostess! I opened the door and collected relatives from behind, bushes, trees, shrubs and cars. Dinner was everything I expected. We laughed and cajoled. It made a perfect Kodak moment. After dinner, as is tradition in our home, the oldest grandchild there reads the Christmas story from Luke's account. We pray, thanking God for the prior year's blessings and then begin opening the gifts. When the wrapping paper was put away and children bustled around in the den with new toys, the adults nibbled on dessert. This is the time when conversation generally gives way to introspection. That night would be no different. Watching our children play, my brother-in-law sighed, "How often do we want God's presents more than His presence?" Everyone smiled. -- Lissa Lee ___________________________________________ You can join Heartwarmers for free! Can Christmas be found on a green fir tree, In ornaments nestling there, In gifts that are placed beneath the boughs, Wrapped with brilliance and care? Can Christmas be found in the velvety snow, Like a blanket, solemn and white, In the awesome glow that shivers, From stars in the still of night? No, Christmas is found in the heart, my child, Not measured by gift or worth, But in the way we share ourselves, With all upon God's earth. -- Gayle Smith ___________________________________________ Gayle is a retired grandmother from Texas and says, "This poem was written for my daughter when she was in 7th grade. I hope someone enjoys it." ___________________________________________ Grace says: Every Christmas Betty's family pulls out the same nativity. (It is nearly 50 years old.) Over the years, children have enjoyed playing with the figures. Their favorite thing was to slide the baby Jesus down the roof of the stable and catch him at the bottom. Last week, Betty's grandson, 3, was playing with Betty on the floor under the tree. He wanted to know what the little table with the straw and white blanket cover was. Betty explained that it was the manger where the baby Jesus was placed after he was born. "Oh, so that's the changer!" he said. "I guess his mommy had to change his diapers, too." =========================================================================== >-->From PetWarmers: MIRACLE PUP by Grace Enebo The end of 2001 was very different than the first two weeks of 2001. On New Year's Eve of 2000, my German Shepherd mix dog, Sadie, was very ill. After ringing in the New Year, I became very worried that her illness was more than just an upset stomach from the rawhide I had given her for Christmas. After speaking with the emergency clinic, they asked me to bring her in as she may have a blockage. So, at 2am, I fought against the traffic of the revelers, more than a little concerned about our safety on the roads at that time. Sadie was checked over and x-rayed but nothing was seen on the x-ray. They wanted to do some blood tests and said I should go home. I stayed awake waiting for their call about her prognosis. At 6am, I got a call that sent me flying out the door. They had taken her outside to do her business and she slipped out of the leash and ran away. I thought when I got there she would hear me and come running. That was not to be. Sadie would not return home that day or for many more to come. She was lost in the Minnesota winter for twelve days. After putting up over 1,000 flyers and many hours of searching, a man, my angel, and his two black labs spotted Sadie laying in a culvert by the railroad tracks. The first time he saw her he didn't realize she was lost. When he saw her again four days later he realized she was the dog he had seen on the flyers in his neighborhood. The Humane Society called me at work. I had responded to many false alarms over the 12 days, but somehow I knew this was truly my beloved Sadie. When I arrived, my girl climbed out of the culvert over 16 pounds lighter and looked at me as if to say "Mom, what took you so long?" After being home for 24 hours, I knew Sadie was still very sick and she was rushed to the University where she had major intestinal surgery for the blockage from New Year's Eve, and was given a very poor prognosis for recovering. They didn't know my Sadie! She's my miracle pup with a very strong will to live. Today, she is doing very well and smiling from our Christmas card with her sister Elsie. -- Grace Enebo ____________________________________________ Grace says, "I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and live with my two Shepherds. My second profession is being a professional clown and volunteering for at least 2-3 events a year with the Humane Society where Sadie's journey back home started." ========================================================================== >-->From Sermond Fodder: A Brother Like That Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. "Is this your car, Mister?" he asked. Paul nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Christmas." The boy was astounded. "You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? Boy, I wish..." He hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels. "I wish," the boy went on, "that I could be a brother like that." Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, "Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?" "Oh yes, I'd love that." After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, "Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?" Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Paul was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked. He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car. "There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And some day I'm gonna give you one just like it...then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I've been trying to tell you about." Paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride. That Christmas Eve, Paul learned what Jesus meant when he had said: "It is more blessed to give..." My Holiday Wish for the World Is That We all Could Be Brothers Like That. This comes our way from Barbara Azan ======================================================================== >-->From AndyChaps [edited] : TOO BUSY Satan called a world wide convention. In his opening address to his evil angels, he said, "we can't keep Christians from going to church. "We can't keep them from reading their bibles and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an intimate abiding relationship experience with God in Christ. If they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken. So let them go to their churches; let them have their conservative lifestyles, but steal their time, so they can't gain that relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This is what I want you to do, angels, Distract them from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day! " "How shall we do this?" shouted his angels. "Keep them busy in the non essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds, " he answered. "Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow. Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-14 hours a day, so they can afford their useless, empty lifestyle. Keep them from spending time with their children. As their family fragments, soon their home will offer no escape from the pressures of work! Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still small voice. Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. To keep the TV, VCR, CD's and their computers going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non biblical music constantly. This will jam their minds and break that union with God and their Lord, Christ." Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day. Invade their driving moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes and every kind of newsletter and promotional product services and false hopes. Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines so the husbands will believe that external beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives. Ha! That will fragment those families quickly!" Even in their recreation, let them be excessive. Have them return from their recreation exhausted, disquieted and unprepared for the coming week. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, concerts and movies instead. Keep them busy, busy, busy! And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences and unsettled emotions. 'Go ahead let 'em be involved in soul winning; but crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from that Jesus Christ. Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause. It will work! It will work!" It was quite a convention. The evil angels went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get more busy and more rushed, going here and there and ultimately - no where. I guess the question is: Has the devil been successful at his scheme? You be the judge! Does "busy" mean: B-eing U-nder S-atan's Y-olk? You might like to consider this further or even pass this on ...unless, of course, you are too busy. ======================================================================= Simply take a moment, Spread your wings and discover how truly wonderful life can be. Janie DeYoung ======================================================================= >-->From The Inspired Buffalo: "The Important Things in Life" Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be - a roommate, a neighbor, a professor, a friend, a lover, or even a complete stranger - but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way. Sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are sometimes the most important ones. If someone loves you, give love back to them in whatever way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart. Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and listen to what they have to say. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make anything you wish of your life. Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets. And if you love someone tell them, for you never know what tomorrow may have in store. -<>- >Links: Demo Las Vegas http://www.buffaloschips.com/fsds.htm Dentist http://www.buffaloschips.com/sese.htm Dhl http://www.buffaloschips.com/dsd.htm Dog Cat http://www.buffaloschips.com/moviezg4.htm Doggie Has Too Much Fun http://www.buffaloschips.com/kjuk.htm Subscribe send a blank email to: the-inspired-buffalo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com ==================================================================== >-->From HeartWarmers: CHRISTMAS MEMORIES by Allen Dormuth 'Tis the season to be jolly Trees with tinsel and bells and holly Smiles on children from ear to ear Birds at the feeder and snow on the pier Smells from the kitchen fill the air From a Christmas feast of pheasant and hare The boats at the dock are at rest for the year Soon Saint Nicholas and reindeer will again appear The trees are all covered with wind blown snow No more mowing the grass or hoeing the row The kids are all home for Christmas this year With hopes that grandpa will be in good cheer The turkey is all dressed with booties and a tan And the salad and fixings are displayed like a fan The guests are arriving with horses and sleigh While all the little boys are all feeding them hay Now this is Christmas as I remember it clear I wish it could remain the same year after year May your Christmas be merry and New Year be great I must go now for dinner, don't want to be late. -- Allen Dormuth ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Al says, "They call me Big Al and I retired with my wife Carole in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania. On the 24th of December many years ago, our three kids, all under five, were having a hard time containing themselves as the smell of the turkey dinner drifted through the house. To make the day more pleasant, the kids and I went for a long drive in the snow through the Amish country of Lancaster County. Mom and Grandma had the house to themselves to cook and finish... well you know. The kids mostly fell asleep, but I remember the sights and smells of those years well. Now that I am over the hill, and in the hills, I enjoy remembering and writing about them. Banko It didn't look much like Christmas that December 23, 1969. The trees were lush, the countryside awash in green. There was no hint of snow in the sweltering heat. In fact, I was the only thing that looked like Christmas. I was perched in the open door of a helicopter hovering about fifty feet over the center of a dusty village in the III Tactical Corps area of Vietnam. Instead of the ubiquitous olive drab the cloaked everything military, I was clad in a bright red Santa suit, complete with hat and white beard. I had a sack of toys slung over my shoulder replacing the M-16 I usually carried. I wanted to make the entrance into the village square as quickly as possible before the beard turned gray with sweat and dust. I checked the harness of my rappelling gear, gave a thumbs-up to the chopper crew, and jumped out into space. I slid down the rope and made a soft landing in the center of the square. The helicopter departed in a final cloud of dust while I looked around the square. Dozens of kids were arrayed around me. Interpreters and Vietnamese-language slingers informing them that something joyful and wonderful would happen had summoned them. I could tell from the puzzled looks on their faces though that these kids still weren't too sure that my arrival was the "something joyful and wonderful." My silly "ho-ho-ho" didn't help much either. The kids kept shrinking farther away from this stranger in red, and I thought my Santa Claus routine would be just another failed attempt to impose western ideas on an eastern culture. I sat down in the middle of the square, wondering how I could let these kids know that Santa was one of the good guys. My mouth was still fuzzy with dust from my landing in the village, so I opened a butterscotch drop and popped it into my mouth to chase away the cobwebs. Instantly, the kids started inching closer. It took me a minute to realize they were drawn by the sight of food. I peeled the wrapper off another and held it out in my hand. Slowly, one little girl allowed the allure of the candy to overcome her reluctance. She came forward to take the butterscotch from my hand. She put it in her mouth, and the half-frightened look on her face blossomed into a beautiful flower of a smile. Then the dam broke and all the kids from all corners of the square were ionized to the magnet of the sweet stuff. They sat on me and touched me and laughed and giggled and smiled. I couldn't peel wrappers off fast enough so I just started throwing the candy into the air. The kids scrambled frantically for it at first, but then returned to their better nature when they realized there would be enough for all of them. Having captured their attention with the candy, I then broke out some small spiral notebooks and pens. As they marveled over their collective treasures, I went into the crowd of adults in the periphery with my fellow GIs and started handing out food from c-ration packs and from the packages we'd received from home. My mother's chocolate chip cookies were a big hit. The Vietnamese bowed and gestured and spoke their rapid-fire reactions but what I understood best were the smiles. We handed out Coke and Dr. Pepper and Pepsi and whatever else we'd scrounged for our gift-giving and, after a short while, everyone in the village had been given something in celebration of the birth of a little baby none of them had ever heard of. We didn't have much peace to spread beyond that precious hour of sanity in the asylum of Vietnam, but we did have an abundance of good will to share. Yes, I've studied at some great colleges in my life and I've been taught by some of the greatest minds of our time, but I've never learned a lesson quite like the one I did in that tiny village square on that special Christmas in 1969. Those Vietnamese knew nothing of Christianity and cared even less about it. They never heard of Christmas before that day and certainly have never celebrated it since, however I know with utter certainty that they taught me more about the real meaning of Christmas than I ever thought I'd learn. Christmas is not complicated. It rests in the hearts of people everywhere, all the time. Christmas is pure and it is simple. We can find Christmas ever day, in so very many ways. Christmas is love and when we show it, we get it back. The child born that first Christmas was never too young to teach that, and I pray that none of us are ever too old to learn it. -- Stephen T.
