Here is some Corona Info I'd like to share with you to help lessen your anxiety and help keep you safe... Dr.Price who works with corona virus patients every day in New York. He said he found that the majority of how the virus is transmitted is from hand to face contact. People touch their eyes, nose or mouth and then get the virus. Only if you are in a closed room with a sick person for 15-30 minutes can you get it airborne. So he tells people wash your hands often and get really tough on policing yourself NOT to touch your face and chances are, you won't get infected. Online security researchers report that crooks are phoning, texting, and emailing people telling them they have to make an upfront payment to release their entitlement. Not so. If you're asked to pay, it's 100% a scam. And so is any message that asks you to provide your bank account details so the money can be transferred directly. Same goes for requests for Social Security numbers. That's not to say direct deposit won't be one of the options as the money starts flowing, but that will likely happen automatically. Although details were still sketchy at the time of writing, the stimulus payments, as they're called, will likely come from the IRS (as happened in 2008). The agency will either send out checks to home addresses they have on file, or send money direct to banks where they have your details from your 2018 tax year filing. They won't be contacting you and it will be up to people who don't get their payment -- because of errors, oversights, or lack of contact details -- to contact the IRS. More details on this will emerge in the coming weeks. So, don't let your impatience overrule common sense if someone offers you a shortcut to your cash. --- ...Good advice! L >THE SIGN by Roger Dean Kiser "Feel like driving a car today?" I asked my son on the telephone. Several minutes earlier, one of the local car dealers had telephoned and asked if I might pick up a new car in Vidalia and bring it back to Brunswick. "Always use a little extra Christmas money," replied Roger Junior. "Let me change clothes and I'll be over in a few minutes," he said. It was about 6:30 in the morning when we made our way onto the 95 interstate freeway, heading northbound. As we traveled along it was suggested that I buy breakfast for the two of us. Being a little hungry, I agreed and pulled off at the next exit. Very carefully, I pulled into a parking space located right next to a handicap spot. I smiled back as one of the two women said "Good morning" to us, as they were unloading a wheelchair from the side of a large white van. Sitting in the wheelchair was a gentleman dressed in a military uniform. I looked down and noticed that both his pant legs were folded beneath his knees. I also noticed officer's bars on his uniform. "Good morning, Captain," I said as I saluted him. "And a good morning to you, sir," he replied back. The five of us traveled up the narrow walkway to the door of the small restaurant. Not thinking, I stepped up a three inch cement curb and opened the door for the Captain and the two women. "There's a wheelchair ramp located on the other side of the building," said a large man, with a name tag, who came walking very quickly out the front door. "In the last two years I've scaled walls higher than this building, ran up and down rubble piles higher than three of my vans piled atop one another. I think I can make it over this curb," said the officer. "I'm sure you can, sir," said the man, as he also saluted the Captain. Roger Jr. and I grabbed hold of the wheelchair handles and as the soldier pushed forward on the wheels of his chair, Roger and I pushed forward. Up and over the cement hump he went, with no difficulty, whatsoever. As one of the women pushed him through the doorway of the restaurant, the large man wearing a name tag snatched a small sign down, which had been taped to the glass door. "I saw that," said the Captain, as he laughed. "This sign was never meant to include heroes," said the manager, as he hid the sign behind himself. "In fact this sign will never appear in this doorway, ever again," he continued, as he wadded up the piece of paper. "I am a writer. May I have that, please?" I asked the man. Slowly, he handed me the wadded up piece of paper, which I stuck into my pants pocket. The fact is that we are where we are today primarily because of choices we have made in the past. Furthermore, we will be where we are in five, ten, or twenty years--and throughout eternity--based on choices we have or will yet make. Floyd Lane, a talented basketball player who attended City College in New York in 1951, accepted a $3,000 bribe to shave points in just three games. Because other players were doing this, he decided to go with the group. Big mistake. He and the other players got caught, arrested, and expelled from school. For the next 23 years he was unable to get a job as a player or a coach in sports because of what he had done. Finally, in 1974 his old college employed him as a coach. When we make mistakes, which we all do from time to time, it's encouraging to know that we still have the choice to put things right. Fortunately, when we admit what we have done, God forgives us. And where possible, where we have hurt others, we need to make amends for what we have done. We also need to forgive ourselves. The important thing is to think first, pray, and make wise choices from now on. And most critical of all is to choose to accept God's forgiveness and his gift of eternal life (if you haven't already done so), as this choice is absolutely essential to guarantee that you spend eternity with God. Whatever else, DO NOT leave earth without God's gift of forgiveness and eternal life. For help, go to http://www.actsweb.org/christian. Prayer: "Dear God, please help me to make wise choices in everything I do--especially in choosing to love and serve you all the days of my life, and where I will spend eternity. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus Christ's name, amen." 1. Joshua 24:15. -<>- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >In the Beginning "In the beginning God…."1 It's fascinating how God introduced himself to the human race. He is totally non-defensive and non-explanatory. He simply opens his Word, the Bible, with the simple but profound statement saying, "In the beginning God…." That is, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." God didn't tell us how he did it. Thousands of years later scientists are still trying to work out exactly how it all began and how it happened. My guess is that they will never fully unfold this mystery--not this side of eternity anyhow. Believing in God and his creation boils down to faith and choice. We basically choose what we want to believe. Many of us believe in God because that was what we were taught as children but at some point we made the choice whether to continue believing in him or not. For some people choosing to believe in God has more to do with morality than it has to do with intellectual issues. Many don't want to believe in God (or in some parts of the Bible) so they can live and behave as they choose. However, if we believe in God, we know that we are morally responsible and accountable to him. Another tragedy when we don't believe in God is as the Russian author, Dostoyevsky, said: "When people stop believing in God, the danger is not that they will believe in nothing. It's that they will believe in anything." Or as another has said, "If we don't stand for something we may fall for anything." Suggested prayer: "Dear God, I choose to believe in you. I choose to trust my life to you and, with your help, I choose to love and serve you all the days of my life. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus Christ's name, amen." 1. Any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." This timely advice is attributed to Stephen Grellet, Franco-American Quaker (1773-1855). John, one of Jesus' disciples, wrote, "Let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions."2 Do you need to make a phone call, send a card, or do something special for your wife, husband, children, friend, or neighbor? If so, do it today. Do you need to resolve an impaired relationship? Do it today. Do you need to take care of that responsibility you've been putting off for weeks/months? Do it today. Do you need to tell someone how much you love them? Do it today. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please use me to be as Jesus to the people in my world. Today. Help me to be a part of what You are doing in the world. Today. Whatever loving deeds I need to do or responsibility to fulfill help me to do it today. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. There was the Fire Horse. The fire equipment was pulled by big strong horses. These would be fast afoot horses like Belgians. Back in those days, the fire call would go out. Horses would step into place, be hooked to the fire wagons, and away they would go, bells ringing, clearing traffic. It was a sight to see. Fire pumpers was steam power. That is a boiler was to make water pressure. Here came that rig, smoke poring out. Team of horses running at top speed. There was rigs with ladders and hose. By the 20s these was being replaced by trucks, but once in a while there still was the old timer. the Fire Horse was slowly a thing of the past, but there still was that old Fire Horse. Every time the call came for a fire, poor old horse thought it had a job to do, but it was retired. I can't say as I remember every seeing one of them, that was a bit before my time. But I do remember what I called old timers telling about it. They said some of those horses about went nuts wanting to answer the call. Now it took a special horse for that job, they had to be trained. Horses as a rule are afraid of fire, or any thing to do with a fire. Here is a team of horses pulling a smoking fire pot. They had a job to do and they welcomed it. Now what got me to thinking about this, is the work I did for over 20 years. While ago I heard the ambulances and police cars roll, I know something bad has happened. Well it didn't brother me to much, I have got use to it This old horse has been retired to long now. But the first year or two, I wanted to answer the call, much like the old Fire Horse of long ago. I have talked to others that use to answer the calls. Most say the same thing, it gets in your blood. But you find out your no longer up to date, your old hat, not needed. Discarded much the same as the old Fire Horse of yesterday. -<>- .-. __/ ( , '-.____\ u=='/ \ /_/ \ .-'' | ( ____/_____ _>_/.-------- \/// // snd // >Casey By Kati Dori His older brother, Justin, was just getting over chicken pox on Casey's second birthday. Poor Justin missed the party while he was quarantined from the other kids. Casey loved his brother and took each gift he opened upstairs to let Justin play with it. After cutting the cake, Casey took the first piece up to his brother. In fact, he spent most of his birthday going up and down the stairs to Justin's room. Casey had the cutest lisp when he talked, and he stuttered when he was excited. His blond hair lay in wisps across his forehead, and his smile could warm the coldest heart. He was so innocent. No one could have predicted what was about to happen to this precious child. One week following his birthday, Casey was plastered with nasty red spots, and then he spiked a fever. He was flat in bed, unable to keep any food or fluids down, becoming more and more dehydrated every minute. It was a Sunday night and I couldn't break his 105- degree fever. I rushed him to the emergency room. The doctor told me Casey was just going through a normal reaction to chicken pox and sent us home, against my better judgment. The next day, Casey was almost lifeless, and he was admitted to the hospital with severe dehydration and an internal infection from his chicken pox. I sat by my mother, tears flowing down my face, as she lifted my son and all his tubes into my arms. I felt weak and numb all over. Casey briefly opened his eyes, looked into mine and drifted off again. The doctor told us that Casey's chicken pox had caused a poison in his bloodstream and they were unsure what to do, except continue intravenous (IV) fluids and antibiotics, and try to keep his fever under control. The nurses rolled a bed into his room to enable me to stay with him. I was awake all night holding my precious boy. In the morning the doctor came in to check Casey again. Four nurses followed and hooked up more wires to my son. Casey was unresponsive, though everyone tried waking him. I kept looking at the heart monitor which would speed up and slow down, then speed up again. The doctor started making more frequent visits and the nurses were in constantly. Later that evening, the doctor told me Casey was slipping into a coma. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. For the next four days, I never left Casey's side. I didn't even go home to shower and change my clothes. There was just no improvement. Family members drifted in and out. My mother was there most frequently. Every moment of every day I prayed for my son's life and health. The doctors were baffled. No one had ever heard of chicken pox making anyone this desperately ill. I noticed on Friday that the heart monitor kept elevating and not decreasing at all. The doctor was called in immediately. I leaned against the wall in the hallway, emotionally exhausted, as the doctor put his hand on my shoulder. "Lisa," he stated, "Casey's on the verge of heart failure and there's nothing more we can do." I felt my whole body go numb. His voice grew farther away and echoed. "Is there any family you would like to call that's not already here?" The only person I called was my pastor. Then for the next forty-five minutes, I sat in a daze, rocking my son and staring into his blank, pale, yet peaceful face. Pastor George walked into the room. His face was sober, but reassuring. My mother took Casey from me so I could get up and greet George. He reached out and put his arms around me as I quietly trembled and sobbed. George then went to Casey, kneeled down and kissed his forehead. All of our family gathered in a circle with Casey still in my mother's arms. We joined hands and George prayed for Casey's recovery. We continued to pray fervently, and then sat as George comforted us. Twenty minutes later, Casey sneezed. His heart monitor went nuts, and then he opened his eyes for the first time in four days. He smiled and reached up to touch his grandmother's tear-streamed face. My mother nearly screamed with joy. "Hello, my sweet boy!" Casey looked at me. "Mama." He reached his arms out for me. "Hi, my baby boy!" I whispered between sobs of joy and relief. "You were sleeping for a long time." Casey sat up and said, "I'm hungry." His voice was raspy from not speaking for so long. He looked around his room and spotted my half- eaten hoagie. "I want that," he pointed. The doctor stood in the doorway and exclaimed, "Give him whatever he wants. Hey, big guy!" The doctor just shook his head and smiled. "I don't believe this," he said. He stepped over to Casey and listened to his heart. "Perfect! I have never seen anything like this in my entire medical career. His heart rate is perfect." It seemed the entire hospital staff was talking about the miracle which happened before their eyes. Nurses kept coming into Casey's room to say hello and kiss him on the cheek. Two days later, I brought Casey home. Justin was thrilled to see his brother and nearly knocked him down as he came through the door. Casey has his tenth birthday coming up. He gets straight A's in school, and he and Justin are still extremely close. So if anyone ever doubts that God performs miracles, you tell them to see me. -<>- ,--.,-"";-"-. .-;-/ / / .- `\ .-. ` ( ' ' ` ; `\/ \ \ / \ / (. Mazzella I noticed something amusing while I was shaving this morning: the lines in my forehead have quit disappearing all the way. They are easy to see too because the long, thick, wavy hair that used to cover them doesn't come down that far anymore. It has become trapped high up on top of my head in between my ever rising forehead in the front and my ever growing bald spot in the back. It hasn't quite stopped growing on the sides of my head yet, however. In fact, my hair even sparkles in the sun now that there is more silver in it than brown. I know that society must think I am strange to be laughing at this rising and wrinkled forehead and silver hair, but I really don't mind my body growing older that much. I know that it is a natural and beautiful process that lasts from the second we are born until the second we die. I even enjoy watching those laugh lines appear when I smile in the mirror. It makes me happy to know that most of those wrinkles are in the right places and come from almost forty years of laughter and smiles. I look forward to them deepening even more in the future. I myself have never seen a smiling face no matter how wrinkled that was not beautiful. Laugh at your wonderful wrinkles then. They are the evidence of a million smiles. Rejoice in all the signs that show how long you have lived and how much joy you have shared. Delight in the laugh lines and love lines that write their beautiful history in your face. Toss your face cream in the garbage and send the botox needles and plastic surgeons back to Hollywood. You are beautiful just the way you are. Remember that God loves you and wants you to be happy. You were made to laugh and smile. You were made to choose love and share joy. If a lifetime of doing so brings a face full of wrinkles then a face full of wrinkles must be a wonderful thing. ========================================================== >Beyond Customer Service Story Editor: by B. Leeann Springer Joyce Schowalter Arkansas, USA I had a plethora of items to buy that were needed for our farm the next day; this shopping trip couldn't be put off for another time. My 4-month-old grandson was with me, as I am his caregiver. It was pouring down rain that day in April 2001, a true "April showers" day. I went to a construction warehouse store in Sherwood, Arkansas. As usual with rain, I got a "sick" headache. My grandson was crying loudly and fussing, and I was about to cry more than my grandson. Then around the corner came Mrs. Connie Atkinson. "May I help you with something?" She sensed I didn't feel well and was trying to juggle my list with a 4-month-old infant. She looked at my long shopping list, with lumber, nails, cement mix, smoke alarms, and many other building supplies. Although she was from a different work area, she took the list from my hand, saying, "Sit down on that bench, I'll be back soon". This kind woman went to every area of the store, and collected all the supplies needed. She actually cut 2x4 lumber. Then she pushed the flatbed cart to the check out, where I paid for everything. She told me to drive up to the loading area. Although it was still raining nonstop, she loaded all the supplies on my truck, enlisting the help of loading dock men to help with the heavy items. I nearly cried again from her kind and generous deeds towards me -- a total stranger. I asked, "Where did you get such good work ethics... and your ability to cut lumber?" She smiled, "Oh, I was raised with brothers and my dad had a shop". This petite woman had just finished a long shopping list for me. This is not a common thing for an employee to do in today's "fast-paced and uncaring world". Most employees in such a store just tell you where certain items are located, and it's self-help all the way. I asked, "Well, where did you get your kindness?" She simply said, "You have a nice day, feel better, and try not to do too much at one time". A few days later I sent a letter of appreciation to the store manager commending Connie. Weeks later I stopped at the same store; this time with a short list, no rain and no sick headache. I wanted to say hello to Connie, but it was her day off. I mentioned her to the cashier. The cashier said "Oh, you're the lady who wrote that nice letter about Connie." I'm sure that Connie has helped so many people along the way, that she's probably forgotten me. However, I will always remember how her kindness touched me and made the world a nicer place in which to live. My next shopping list includes: We need more Connies in the world. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From LaughAndLift: .. |\\ .====^^\\==. |\ || |\ kya :X"====^^====' \|XXXXXXXXXX| """"""""""" >The Picnic (By Bob Benson) Do you remember ever being invited to a picnic, a social gathering, like by a church group or maybe a family reunion? Maybe you were told something like, "You bring what you want to eat and we'll furnish the tea." But you came home and, at the last minute, got ready to pack your lunch, but all you could find was one dried up piece of bologna and just enough mustard in the jar so that you got it all over your knuckles when you tried to get it out . . . and just two stale pieces of bread. Soooooooo, you made a bologna sandwich and wrapped it in a brown bag and went to the picnic. When it came time to eat, you sat at the end of the table and spread out your sandwich. But the folks right next to you - the lady was a good cook and had worked all day - had fried chicken and baked beans and potato salad and home made rolls and sliced tomatoes and pickles and olives and celery, and, to top it off, two great big homemade chocolate pies. They spread it all out beside you and there you were . . . with your bologna sandwich. But they smiled warmly and said to you "Why don't we put it all together?" You may have stammered a bit, embarrassed, and made excuses, but they wouldn't take no for an answer. "Aww come on, there's plenty of chicken, plenty of pie, plenty of everything. And we just love bologna sandwiches. Let's just put it all together." So you did . . . and there you sat, eating like a king, when you came like a pauper. So I'm thinking . . . thinking of me sharing in the very being of God. When I think of how little I bring and how much He brings and that He invites me to share. . . I know I should be shouting to the housetops, but I'm so filled with awe and wonder that I can hardly be heard. I know I don't have enough love. . . or faith . . . or grace. . . or mercy. . . or wisdom. But He has. He has ALL those things in abundance, and He says, "Let's just put it all together. Everything that I possess is available to you, and everything that I am and can be to a person I will be to you." And when I think about it like that, it really amuses me - to see somebody running around through life, hanging on to their dumb bag, with their stale bologna sandwich saying, "Well, God's not gonna get my sandwich! No sirree, not mine!" Did you ever see anybody like that - just so needy? Just about half starved to death, hanging on for dear life to their bologna sandwich? _.---._ _.-~ ~-._ _.-~ ~-._ _.-~ ~---._ _.-~ ~\ .-~ _.; :-._ _.-~ ./ }-._~-._ _..__.-~ _.-~) `-._~-._~-._ / .__..--~_.-~ ~-._~-._\. _.-~_/ _..--~~ ~-. \`--...--~_.-~/~~ \.`--...--~_.-~ ~-..----~ You see, it's not that He needs your bologna sandwich. So he went to see the old preacher. Pacing about the preacher's study, the young man ranted about his problem. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted, "I've begged God to say something to help me. Tell me, Preacher, why doesn't God answer?" The old preacher, who sat across the room, spoke something in reply -- something so hushed it was indistinguishable. The young man stepped across the room. "What did you say?" he asked. The preacher repeated himself, but again in a tone as soft as a whisper. So the young man moved closer until he was leaning on the preacher's chair. "Sorry," he said. "I still didn't hear you." With their heads bent together, the old preacher spoke once more. "God sometimes whispers," he said, "so we will move closer to hear Him." This time the young man heard and he understood. We all want God's voice to thunder through the air with the answer to our problem. But God's is the still, small voice . . . the gentle whisper. Perhaps there's a reason. Nothing draws human focus quite like a whisper. God's whisper means I must stop my ranting and move close to Him, until my head is bent together with His. And then, as I listen, I will find my answer. Better still, I find myself closer to God. (1 Kings 19:11-12 NIV) "The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." It may also help to apply ice wrapped in a paper towel. * Do not have your child lean back. This may cause blood to flow down the back of the throat, which tastes bad and may initiate gagging, coughing, or vomiting. * Have your child to rest for a while after a nosebleed. Discourage blowing, picking, rubbing, and any rough play. To help prevent nosebleeds: * Keep your child's nails short to prevent picking. * Keep the inside of your child's nose moist with saline nasal spray or dab petroleum jelly gently around the opening of the nostrils. * Humidify your child's room with a vaporizer (or humidi- fier) if the air in your home is dry. You can buy a cool mist or hot steam (also called warm mist) model. If you go with the hot steam kind, make sure to keep it out of your child's reach to avoid scalding. It's also important to keep vaporizers clean to prevent mildew. * Make sure your child wears protective athletic equipment when participating in sports that could cause injury to the nose. When I first had my child, I was overwhelmed at the thought of this precious life being in my hands. I was not a doctor or a nurse or one with a lot of medical experience. So to ease my fears I prayed to God to make sure that I would always know what was best to do for the care of my child. So every time after that one of my children became ill or got injured, I would always pray and ask God what to do for their best care and I would get an immediate answer. I always did what I was led or felt like I should do. God never let me down. I always knew what to do. One day my son was sent home with a nose bleed the school nurse was unable to get to stop. He was scared and thought he had to go to the hospital. I took him into our bathroom and I prayed silently to God (as I always do without my child knowing I was praying so as not to alarm him). I calmly acted on and followed my immediate instincts as to what to do knowing they were from God. Within a few minutes, I was able to do what the school nurse hadn't been able to do - I easily and quickly got his bleeding to stop. It wasn't me - it was God. It was (and always is) God. It reminds me of Jesus when He said... , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. Things like this make me smile at the greatness of God and how much His promises in His Word never fail to bless and hold true. God is so Good we just need to take Him at His Word and do what He tells us to do! He is always faithful to us! ========================================================== .0. / \ ; \_/ ; | | | | | | _______; ;_______ `======='\ /`=======` \ / _ | | _ _( \____|=|____/ )_ ( .---. .---. ) `-' / \ '-' / HUG \ ; ; | .---.|__, jgs : / :--' .--\ \ | `" `"".-' < =""` `"== `""""""` =""` `"""===="""` =""` `""==="""` >-->Friends There is someone special That dwells within my heart I know just when it happened And when it got its start.
