Between aging, a bit of arthritis and numerous grandchildren, my priorities in life have changed drastically. I sat outside this morning and hoped that what I can leave behind someday will be the value of my stories -- not the actual stories, but the feeling the stories created in someone, and was then passed along to others. Anyone who has read my work knows that I never had a mother or a father and that my entire childhood and young adult life was nothing more than one institution after another. I had no idea how to create a normal home life as I had never experienced such a strange and unusual thing. I could not possibly create my own institution even though that was the only life I knew, should I ever have a wife and a family of my own. Many years ago I joined Heartwarmers and my submitted several of my stories. Within weeks people began responding by the thousands. It was then that my "worthless stories" as well as my life began to have some value. I will never forget standing before a crowd of over a hundred writers and fellow Heartwarmers at the Queens Landing Hotel in Canada while attending the Heartwarmers conference and receiving a standing ovation after reading my life-story. It was at that very moment that I realized my true value. I returned home and within a week I became a child advocate. Over the next few years, I wrote twenty-five books on child abuse and related issues. That terrible sadness that I have always felt inside from being abandoned, abused and forgotten as a child, was the true value I needed to base my life upon and to make a change for others in the future. Though times got tough, Judy and I lost our home and most of what we manage to accumulate over the years. Nevertheless, we never lost our values. True value is not what is in our wallets or purses and it is certainly not in our bank account. True value cannot be taken away and will surely live on through our children, friends and many others for days, weeks, months, years and maybe even centuries into the future. Many times it may appear that saving a child is an impossible feat. But we must always keep in mind that maybe, just maybe, we can save the husband, father and the grandfather they may one day become. -- Roger Kiser, Sr. __________________________________________________ Roger is a Heartwarmer Gem and a child advocate. After physical death, our spirits will live forever. Where we reside - heaven or hell - will depend on whether we have accepted or rejected Jesus as our personal Savior. Scripture teaches that all have sinned and owe a penalty (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). There isn't anything we can do to earn God's forgiveness. Knowing this, our heavenly Father sent His Son Jesus to take our sins upon Himself and experience punishment in our place. In that way, we become part of God's family and look forward to spending eternity with Him in heaven. His only requirement for this amazing blessing is that we acknowledge we're sinners who need a Savior and believe that Jesus died to save us (Rom. 10:9-10). Those who reject Christ will spend life after death separated from Him and all else that is good. But those who believe will live with Him forever. Every person will ultimately dwell in heaven or hell, both of which are real places described in the Bible. In heaven, we'll never again know pain, sorrow, or tears (Rev. 21:4). But Hell is the opposite. A place of punishment, it will be the scene of everlasting agony and torment. Today's passage illustrates this hard fact. Eternal punishment and the reality of hell are never easy topics to consider, but they are vitally important because they will really happen. Don't let your emotions turn you away from the truths recorded in Scripture. Instead, take heed of the warnings, and be certain you are heaven-bound. --- ...Thanks LouiseAu! They are not alive in heaven, hell, or Paradise. [7] Deuteronomy 31:16 (KJV) [8] And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers… God told Moses he would “sleep” with his ancestors, not that he was going to heaven to be with God or his ancestors. God made it clear that Moses was going to sleep, a state that, for Moses, will end with the Resurrection of the Just. [9] “Sleep” is an excellent metaphor for death, because a sleeping person is not participating in life’s activities, but will wake up as the same person who went to sleep. “Sleep” is often used of death (Job 7:21; Ps. 13:3, 90:5; Dan. 12:2; John 11:11; 1 Cor. 11:30, 15:51; 1 Thess. 4:14, 5:10). The fuller metaphor of sleeping with one’s ancestors occurs in 2 Samuel 7:12, 1 Kings 1:21, and Acts 13:36 of King David. Job 7:21 (ESV) [10] ...For now I shall lie in the earth; you will seek me, but I shall not be.” Job 14:12-14 (ESV) (12) so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep. (13) Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would conceal me until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me! (14) If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my service I would wait, till my renewal should come. When a person dies, he “lies down” in death and does not rise out of that sleep until his “renewal” at the resurrection. Job’s saying he would be hidden in Sheol (the state of death) makes no sense if he believed that at his death he would be with God in heaven or in a good place. Psalm 6:5 (ESV) For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? People who die are not in the presence of God. They are dead in every way, and in the sleep of death do not remember or praise God. Psalm 16:10 (ESV) For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. Psalm 30:9 (ESV) “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? When we die, we return to dust, and that dust does not praise God. The psalmist is asking God to keep him alive, and reminding God that if he dies, He will get no praise from “dust.” See the full of this great teaching here: The Dead Are Dead Until The Rapture Or Resurrection http://tinyurl.com/lamkme2 Also Check Out These Teachings: The Sleep Metaphor http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/sleepmetaphor.html Haunting http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/haunting.html Christianity http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/christianity.html Are Angels Real? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/angelsreal.html AUDIO CLASS - New Life In Christ http://tinyurl.com/yk8q6rd AUDIO CLASS - Book Of Revelations http://tinyurl.com/yzslccp =========================================================== >-->From Archives InspiredBuffalo: reICareI reICareIC ICareICareICar ICareICareICare reICareICareICareI reICareICareICareIC CareICareICareICareICa reICareICareICareICareI ICarICareICareICareICareI ICareICareICareICareICareI ICarICareICareICareICareICare CareICareICareICareICareICare ICareICareICareICareICareICareI CareICareICareICareICareICareICa ICaICareICareICareICareICareICareI ICareICareICareICareICareICareICar eICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICar ICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICar ICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareIc eICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICa ICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareI reICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICare ICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICa reICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareIc ICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICareICare reICareICareICareIICareICareICareICareIca ICareICareICareICareICareICareICarICa reICareICareICareICareICarICare areICareICareICareICareICa ICareICareICareICare areICareICareICa eICareICareI -Grim CareICar reIC eI >FOOT-AND-A-HALF FAITH [Edited] His father said he had a drug problem. This was said in jest because, while Bob did not take drugs, he was drug to church whenever the doors were opened. As Bob grew, he lived from one emotional high to another. He had even walked the isle when he was nine. He seemed to enjoy the emotion, but failed to ever truly accept the salvation offered by Jesus Christ. Bob's parents became embarrassed by their son's need to be on an emotional high. In time, Bob would graduate high school and attend college. One day, Bob picked up a tract distributed by Billy Graham; it was called "Missing Heaven by Eighteen Inches". The tract explained that eighteen inches is the distance between your head and heart and sometimes what you think misses the journey to the heart. It seemed to Bob as if Billy Graham had written the tract just for him, "maybe you have grown up in church and been baptized, taught Sunday School and may even be a preacher but you have never asked Christ to come into your heart and forgive your sin!" Bob looked at the tract with new eyes. For the first time he conducted an honest soul search and found that he was empty, Jesus was not there and Bob was not thrilled with what he did find. In the quiet of his room he bowed his head and surrendered his life to Jesus and invited the son of the God of this universe to find a home in his heart. For Bob the strangest sensation overcame him; peace and assurance. No bells, no whistles, no fireworks, no explosions, just a new heart that connected the eighteen inch gap with his head. Because Bob had been a part of the church all of his life, it was hard for those who had seen him grow up to believe that he hadn't actually accepted Jesus. Bob asked his pastor to baptize him, "Why? You're a Christian!" came the quick reply. Bob quietly replied, "I wasn't before but now I am." These days Bob and his parents also connect in a new way. The embarrassment of a boy who looked only for an emotional high is replaced with spiritual conversation that is edifying to all of them. Bob's dad recently asked him, "Who will see God?" Bob thought and replied, "The pure in heart." Bob's dad reemphasized what his son already knew; God looks at the heart and encourages us to do a self examination to see what we find in the depths of our heart and then dispense with those things that we have conformed to in our world and transform both our hearts and minds by the renewing of the Spirit. God draws each of His children to Himself and we can only love Him when we understand that He first loved us and gave His son for us. This news is humbling; it is often received with a sense of awe and incredible joy. Bob had heard the stories, he had grown up in church and yet the message in his heart did not match the message in his mind. He said yes to a journey of eighteen inches and his life will never be the same. By Glenn A. We do not bend to enjoy the happiness which is ours for the taking just at our feet. Powers A husband takes his wife's hand and whispers, "Honey, take some time for yourself this evening. I started a bubble bath for you. Don't worry about the kids. I'll take care of getting them to bed..." A high school student hugs her mom and dad tightly and says, "Thanks for making me do my homework this weekend instead of going out with my friends... I know I have a shot at that scholarship now, and I owe it all to both of you." She even offers to do the dishes before turning in early for bed... An elderly gentleman is returning home from his nightly walk when four tough looking teenagers approach him. They walk slowly up behind him, grab him and say, "Sir. We just wanted you to know that you dropped your billfold a couple of blocks back. We are really sorry, but we were unable to get all the snow off your leather wallet. Here it is. Everything is still there. We're disappointed that we couldn't get all the moisture off it before it started to stain... No, we don't deserve any reward, we were just glad we came along when we did." A lonely stray cat limps up to the dark house. He lifts his keen nose and sifts the cold air currents. There is food up ahead. He hasn't eaten in days, and he is cold and growing weaker by the hour... He has been here before and knows the dog chained to the doghouse will not let him near, but desperation drives him on. He draws closer to the appetizing aroma coming from the food dish, all the while waiting for the deep growling to begin. To his amazement he approaches the dish unchallenged and begins to gulp huge amounts of food. The Doberman only watches... When he is done eating and his hunger is satisfied, he hears the dog whine. The abandoned stray walks slowly up to the canine and they sniff noses. Soon they are fast asleep, sharing the warmth that only two can provide. For one night, the ancient enmity between cat and dog has been set aside... A young single mom turns off the TV and walks slowly into the kitchen. She looks longingly at the bottle of whiskey on the counter... This is part of her evening ritual. It's how she deals with her problems. It's how she gets to sleep most nights, but for some reason tonight feels different. The tall bottle doesn't call to her as strongly. She doesn't feel the overwhelming urge to bring the container to her lips, to feel the fiery liquid burn down the back of her throat and make her forget... Instead she gracefully slides over to the kitchen sink and pours every last drop down the drain. "Not tonight," she whispers to herself. Maybe not ever again... She makes her way down the hallway and looks in on her sleeping children. She walks from bedside to bedside, bending down and gently planting a loving kiss on each round chubby cheek. She is in bed before midnight for the first time in a year. She just might make it to work on time tomorrow. "Boy, won't my boss be surprised," she thinks to herself. Just as she is drifting off to sleep, the stillness of the night is broken by the sudden, jarring ring of the phone. "Hello," she says sleepily. She can't believe what she is hearing. She doesn't want to believe. She thinks she is just going to wake up from this dream and none of it will be true. She reaches down and pinches her leg... She isn't dreaming. The voice on the other end of the phone belongs to her husband who left her two years ago. "Honey, I'm coming home, if you'll have me. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life and leaving you and the kids was the biggest..." She sobs quietly into the mouthpiece... "Don't cry honey, everything is going to be all right from now on..." It was Saturday and we were going to have a great time. My divorced mother, two younger brothers and I were on our way to the park at the other end of the small Jersey town we lived in. We had our football and makeshift goal posts in the back of the station wagon and our teams already chosen: us against our mother. (Don't worry, it was only touch football.) On the way we approached a small bar where an agitated crowd had formed outside. Suddenly there was a terrible tension in the air. "Uh, oh," one of my brothers said. "Shhh," my mother told him. I got an uneasy feeling in the gut of my stomach. I'd always had a certain uneasiness about crowds. Fear actually. When I was only about five, we were living in North Manhattan. I had witnessed a crowd yelling for a suicidal man atop an apartment building to jump. It left me with a bad impression of what decent, normal people are capable of when in the crowd mentality. I wanted out of there and shouted to my mother to speed up. Instead, she slowed! She pulled to the curb on the opposite side of the street. We were a few dozen feet from six or seven people cheering on a drunken fight. It was definitely crowd mentality, all right -- the same whether it was in a city or a small town. To our horror our mother got out, locking us boys in. "Stay put, guys" she said. We didn't unlock the car but we did open the windows about half way. To our astonishment our beautiful, petite mother defiantly walked through the ruckus, went up to the two brawlers and shouted to the one on top. "Get off him right now! You'll kill him!" It was as forceful as she had ever sounded. I'll never forget her standing there with her hands on her hips (her "mad-as-hell" stance which we knew very well), seemingly oblivious to the others around her. Two men in the crowd must have been humbled by her audacity because they broke rank from the rest and separated the two combatants. In the distance we heard a siren. Minutes later a police car pulled up and we got going again. The whole incident took no more than ten minutes, but it has been seared in my memory ever since. From the back seat my youngest brother kept his arms lovingly around our mother's neck as she drove, while my other brother and I just stared in utter amazement at her all the way to the park. I learned a great lesson that day from our petite mother. I learned that I really had nothing to fear from a crowd like that -- as long as I never become a part of it. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Laugh&Lift: Task: Do something unexpected for your spouse today that will let them clearly know that you love and appreciate them! (Romans 5:8) When two people get married, they have expectations of how the relationship should work. Often, the unspoken assumption is that "My spouse will meet me halfway." Sometimes it's called "The 50/50 Plan." When the husband and wife operate on this pattern, it's easy for it to spread to other members of the family. The "50/50 Plan" says, "You do your part, and I'll do mine." This concept sounds logical, but families who use it are destined for disappointment. Among the problems with "The 50/50 Plan" is that giving is based on merit and performance. We focus more on what the other person is giving than on what we are doing. Love is withheld until the other person meets our expectations. Since this way of measuring out our love is subjective, the motivation for our actions is based merely on how we feel. It's impossible to ever know if a person has ever met you halfway. As Thomas Fuller said, "Each horse thinks his pack is heaviest." Early in our marriage we tried this plan. I would give affection to Barbara only when I felt she had earned it by keeping the house running smoothly. Barbara would show me affection and praise only when I would hold up my end by getting home on time, keeping the house in a reasonable state of repair, or working in her garden. Contrast this with the type of love God shows for us. You might say that, no matter what we do, He gives us 100 percent. As Romans 5:8 shows, He gives us love even when we don't deserve it. I propose that couples adopt "The 100/100 Plan" in marriage. Under this plan, each person gives 100 percent no matter what the other person does. Prayer: That God's spirit of unmerited giving will permeate the heart of each member of your family. -<>- _|_ | / \ //_\\ //(_)\\ |/^\| ,%%%% // \\ ,@@@@@@@, ,%%%%/%%% // \\ ,@@@\@@@@/@@, @@@%%%\%%//%%%// === \\ @@\@@@/@@@@@ @@@@%%%%\%%%%%// =-=-= \\@@@@\@@@@@@;%#####, @@@@%%%\%%/%%// === \\@@@@@@/@@@%%%######, @@@@@%%%%/%%//| |\\@\\//@@%%%%%%#/#### '@@@@@%%\\/%~ | | ~ @|| %\\//%%%#####; @@\\//@|| | __ __ | || %%||%%'###### '@|| || | | | | | || ||##\//#### || || | | -|- | | || ||'#||###' || || |_|__|__|_| || || || || ||_/` ======= `\__||_._|| || jgs__||_/` ======= `\_||___ >Signs on Church Properties - "No God -- No Peace. One day she was riding around looking at different parks, community centers, etc. Patsy's son, Dean, 4, was riding with her. After awhile he asked her what she was looking for. She told him she was looking for just the right place for the "Goostree" reunion (Goostree is her maiden name). They rode for another minute or two and Dean said, "There Granny, there's some '~goose-trees.'" He was pointing at a wooded area off the road. She had to pull over she was laughing so hard. - Patsy Campbell of Portland, Tennessee Faith Jean-Ann and Grammy are best friends. One night during a great-room "camp out" they were looking at family pictures around the room. Faith, 4 at the time, was curious. "Where is your mom?" Faith asked. Grammy told her, "In heaven with Jesus." Faith then asked if (Grammy) was going to go to heaven to be with Jesus and if she could go with Grammy when she went to see Jesus. This was delicate, so Grammy took her time answering. Before she could reply, Faith added, "then we can go get our hair done by Kay and have lunch at Bob Evans!" - Margo and Dan Phillips (Grammy and PawPaw) of Big Long Lake, Wolcottville, Indiana One Good Friday, when he was 2, Christian, Faith's brother, accompanied Grammy and PawPaw to afternoon services at St. Mary of the Angels Church. The time came to pay reverence to the cross as it was placed on the floor near the altar. Christian was squatted down looking very closely at the cross. He put his little hand first on Christ's feet, then on the side and finally along the face of Christ's image on the cross. With the saddest face, he said, "Oh, Grammy, OW." ____ _ .-;\)___\ |_| \_/ ,---\ | | / _/ e e \_/ _%&&%%&_ |(` >| ___T__\______/__ \| =/ '====\\\ ^/====='_/ ,--' `\ \ .'`._ ( \ \ / ``\ \ \/ / ) ) \`'._/ -'.-'\ \__/ / \-'\______ /._'-./ \ ___`'-. /` | '-.\ '--`` /-\\\ /` / | ( ) | / / | \ (-------------- / '-._ | /'-.'# # # # `._ `'-._/ /#__#__#__#__#__ ;";-..__ | | # # # # # ; | |``-' |# # # # # / ;\ | |__#__#__#__#__#__ .' / / / || || jgs /' .' | | || || / .' | | || || ,| / \ | || || \\\/( (`-/\__ || \__`\ [_--.__\ || Lucas, the youngest of the much-loved group, is smitten by a waitress at Pizza Hut. Her brother Brent and all the other onlookers were suppressing their laughter. Brent asked Victoria some math questions, which of course she got right. Then Brent said, "See Victoria, your brain is OK. It's not injured." Then, shaking his head he laughingly told her to quit acting like a drama queen.
