Between aging, a bit of arthritis and numerous grandchildren, my priorities in life have changed drastically. I sat outside this morning and hoped that what I can leave behind someday will be the value of my stories -- not the actual stories, but the feeling the stories created in someone, and was then passed along to others. Anyone who has read my work knows that I never had a mother or a father and that my entire childhood and young adult life was nothing more than one institution after another. I had no idea how to create a normal home life as I had never experienced such a strange and unusual thing. I could not possibly create my own institution even though that was the only life I knew, should I ever have a wife and a family of my own. Many years ago I joined Heartwarmers and my submitted several of my stories. Within weeks people began responding by the thousands. It was then that my "worthless stories" as well as my life began to have some value. I will never forget standing before a crowd of over a hundred writers and fellow Heartwarmers at the Queens Landing Hotel in Canada while attending the Heartwarmers conference and receiving a standing ovation after reading my life-story. It was at that very moment that I realized my true value. I returned home and within a week I became a child advocate. Over the next few years, I wrote twenty-five books on child abuse and related issues. That terrible sadness that I have always felt inside from being abandoned, abused and forgotten as a child, was the true value I needed to base my life upon and to make a change for others in the future. Though times got tough, Judy and I lost our home and most of what we manage to accumulate over the years. Nevertheless, we never lost our values. True value is not what is in our wallets or purses and it is certainly not in our bank account. True value cannot be taken away and will surely live on through our children, friends and many others for days, weeks, months, years and maybe even centuries into the future. Many times it may appear that saving a child is an impossible feat. But we must always keep in mind that maybe, just maybe, we can save the husband, father and the grandfather they may one day become. -- Roger Kiser, Sr. __________________________________________________ Roger is a Heartwarmer Gem and a child advocate. As I stood in line, I saw a young girl approach the counter and whisper something into the sales clerk's ear. The clerk pointed to a shelf in the back corner of the bookstore and the humble-looking girl moved toward that corner. This scene aroused my curiosity. So, after making my purchase, I stuck around to see what the girl was up to. Shortly thereafter, the girl scurried up to the counter, looked around, as if to make sure no one was watching, pulled a small, black book out from under her arm and set it face-down on the counter. The clerk took her money, made change and quickly stuffed the little, black book into a paper bag. But, before he could get the book into the paper bag, I was able to catch a glimpse of the cover. It read, "Holy Bible". The entire incident seemed strange, but familiar. Then, I turned to leave and found myself looking directly at a magazine rack. The rack openly displayed scores of "men's" magazines. That's when I made the connection. There was a time, not long ago, when pornographic magazines were wrapped in plain brown wrappers. If a person wanted to see a pornographic movie he would sneak off, "do his thing" and return home. He never mentioned the movie to anyone, save a few close friends who were "into" the same thing. In fact, he would probably turn red with embarrassment if anyone else found out. Today however, pornography is quickly becoming more available and less stigmatized. There are no plain brown wrappers on the magazines. X-rated movies are available at many video rental stores. The internet has brought every brand of pornography into the bedrooms of curious teenagers around the world. In fact, pornography has become so widespread that many of us have become desensitized to it. We rarely think twice when we see sex in an advertisement, on TV, or in print. We use vulgarity openly and without embarrassment. That which was deviance has become normality. What about the girl in the bookstore? There was a time, not long ago, when our nation's leaders bowed together in prayer. Families prayed together, asking God to guide and protect them. Children were allowed time to pray in school. Religion was discussed openly and without embarrassment. Spirituality was the norm. Today, however, the mentioning of God or Jesus Christ often causes people to cringe with fear and embarrassment. People often go to church on Saturday or Sunday, but they rarely mention it at the office or in the classroom. If people feel the need to pray, I suppose they can sneak off to a church, "do their thing," and return home. I followed the girl for awhile. I tried to muster up the courage to tell her that I too was a believer. I wanted to tell her to carry her Bible proudly. I longed to call out to her, "Hey! Don't let them wrap your God in a plain brown wrapper." --- .--._ . \ ).' )|/ _.'''-._ ( \ \ ) )'-. ( / _.-'\ / ) ('-._ / \ _/ AoS '-.__=='' ...but ...What? He was doing exactly what he didn't want the little girl to do wrapping God in his own 'plain brown wrapper' held back by his own tongue and insecurities. That would not have stopped the apostles from preaching God's Word! 2Tim.4 [1] I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. [5] But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. What? You think this is Not Talking to YOU? After all, you reason you do not have a ministry - or do you? IF You Are A CHRISTIAN... 2 Cor.5: [17] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [18] And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; Well, there you go - you DO have a Ministry - it is of reconciliation. [19] To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now it is OUR turn to do what Christ did. [20] Now then we are ambassadors for Christ... Isn't that sweet? We not only have a ministry BUT we are CHRIST'S AMBASSADORS! The article explains how she is comfortable talking about her Christian faith and her support for homosexual rights: "I read my Bible and I pray and all of that. I really do," she told the gay-interest publication. "But at the same time, I don't think being gay is a sin. Period." Chenoweth grew up in Oklahoma's Bible belt and says that her grandmother is her inspiration. She describes a friend of hers growing up who was homosexual: "I asked my Grandma Chenoweth, 'How can it be that he's going to hell? I just don't think that correct.' And she said, 'Well, Kris, I read the Bible like I eat fish: I take the meat, and it serves me well, but I don't choke on the bone.'" It seems that we live in a day when people of all walks of life - even people in the Bible Belt - take what they like out of the Bible and toss out what they don't like. We like words such as "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," but stop up our eyes when we hear other words from the Bible such as "Repent!" Grandmother Chenoweth's words, "I read the Bible like I eat fish: I take the meat, and it serves me well, but I don't choke on the bone" may sound good and sensible until you look a little closer. The real problem is that we should never "read the Bible like" we eat anything. We should read it as God's Word. And to say that we can toss out what we consider to be "bone" while swallowing what we consider to be "meat" is problematic, because who determines what is "meat" or "bone"? Suppose I like that new vehicle you just bought, and I decide I don't like it that the Bible says I'm not supposed to steal. Is that a bone that I can toss out? Or when the Bible tells me that I am to love my enemies - do I choke on that one? Or do I see that ALL of God's Word is exactly that - His Word? Do I recognize the Bible as being 100% God's Word to us today? If I don't, then the entirety of God's Word is in question, because who decides which is true and which is not? I don't have that right. You don't have that right. Nor does anyone else we know. We either accept all of it as truth - "meat" - or none of it. A. W. Tozer addressed this once by saying, "If you would follow on to know the Lord, come at once to the open Bible expecting it to speak to you. Do not come with the notion that it is a thing which you may push around at your convenience." In this day of darkness, let us as faithful believers in Christ not be guilty of dissecting God's Word and throwing out any part of it that makes us uncomfortable or with which we happen to disagree. Let us stand firmly under the banner which proclaims without apology that the Bible is God's Holy Word - even the parts we don't like. If the Bible calls it sin, then it's sin. As he held me close on his lap I could see the tears running down his face as freely as they ran down mine. I was struggling to accept that I'd never see my momma again until Heaven, which seemed very, very far away, and I already missed her. I knew daddy missed her too, but he kept up a brave front after that day, at least in front of my brother and me. I saw my daddy shed tears as he preached about Jesus' death on the cross, or as he gave the invitation after his sermon, weeping from his heavy burden for lost souls. And many times his face was wet with tears when he got up from kneeling to pray, or came out from praying in his room. When I was in painful labor with my son, my daddy held my hand as long as he could stay in the room with me. I saw the tears fall down his face as he leaned down and said, "I would take the pain for you if I could, honey." When my first grandson, his first great-grandchild, was killed in a car accident, my daddy's tears fell as he looked into the tiny casket of 9-week-old Darren. A few years later, my daddy's tears flowed once again as he buried his own son, when my brother died. Our family has had many losses, and many sad times through the years; countless tears have been shed. Expressing grief has not been the only time I've seen my daddy's tears. Sometimes they were tears of joy, like the day we had a big surprise celebration to honor him for his 50 years of being a minister. The church was standing-room only with people from several states who came to honor him for the impact he's had on their lives. My daddy's tears have taught me that strong men do cry, and that our emotions are God-given. Scripture tells us that Jesus also wept. In fact, the Bible says God puts our tears in a bottle. Somewhere God has a bottle of my daddy's tears, a testament to the compassionate, caring man he is. –Sharon Henriques as seen at The Timothy Report ============================================================== >-->From Archives InspiredBuffalo: ,-`"-=') =/////// ,== _,_(((((-`6\ ==.| /,,...\\\C _| .--. Very bad cold. Sinuses all clogged up. Coughing. Sneezing. Fever. More aches and pain than normal, which is saying a lot. Going from hot to cold and back again. And worst of all, watching far more daytime TV than anyone ever should. (Have I got you feeling sorry for me yet?) Today I was able to drag myself out of bed, stagger wearily down the hall, and collapse onto a sofa in our den. Then I reached out to the coffee table and grabbed "it"...that wonderfully, delightful invention...the amazingly, marvelous desire of men everywhere...the remote control. I looked at it lovingly. No longer was I confined to the realm of TV stations. No more was I forced to watch hour after hour of what some strange people had decided (incorrectly) I needed to see. Now I had access to my video tapes and DVDs. So I leaned back, smiled happily, and hit the play button, wondering what treasure might soon appear on the darkened screen before me. And suddenly, there it was in all its glory. Finding Nemo . A computer animated movie about a father's search for his lost son. Of course, they're all fish, but hey, it's an animated movie. And though it's one I've seen about a thousand times, tears welled up in my eyes. Was it the heart warming story? Was it the fact that at long last it wasn't Oprah, Dr. Phil or SpongeBob SquarePants? Or was it the medicine finally kicking in? We may never know. As the movie drew to its climax, there was a scene in which Dory asked Marlin not to leave her. She'd come to realize that she needed his friendship and help, she wasn't complete without him and wanted him to stay. Finally, Dory looked at Marlin and said, "I look at you...and I'm home." I love that line. That's the way it should be among God's people. Whether it's in church, in the neighborhood or at the grocery store, there should be something different when we run into each other. We should feel different, sense something different in those we call our brothers and sisters in Christ. Once when Peter "reminded" Jesus that the Disciples had left everything to follow Him, Jesus replied, No one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life. (Luke 18:29-30) We usually focus on the "age to come", but notice He also said, "in this age." He wasn't talking about home as in where we live. He was telling us about something different. A difference founded on loving and encouraging one another. A man's brother and wife are killed in an accident out of state. As his family prepares to leave, a man from his church shows up at the front door to shine their shoes. A lady has a head-on collision, leaving her in a wheelchair during rehab, unable to care for herself. A friend shows up and gives her a neck and arm massage. An elderly couple become ill and their Sunday School class shows up to cut their lawn. Taking a friend to his chemo treatments, preparing meals, spending time with someone who's just lost a spouse...these are just some of the ways we can take care of each other. Ways we show that we're a family. We love each other by "doing" something...by sharing our lives...by showing up. Jesus once said, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." (John 14:23) We will make our home with him. That's it! That's the difference. It's Immanuel, God with us . We may share our fellowship, hopes, dreams, sorrows, and pain...we may do many things for many people, encouraging and supporting them. But the difference in us is and should always lead others to say: "When I look at you, I see my Heavenly Father, Lord and Friend in your life...and I'm home." This is a good little story about a vivid memory of a P-51 and its pilot by a fellow who was 12 years old in Canada in 1967. You may know a few others who would appreciate it. It was noon on a Sunday as I recall, the day a Mustang P-51 was to take to the air. They said it had flown in during the night from some U.S. airport, the pilot had been tired. I marveled at the size of the plane dwarfing the Pipers and Canucks tied down by her. It was much larger than in the movies. She glistened in the sun like a bulwark of security from days gone by The pilot arrived by cab, paid the driver, and then stepped into the flight lounge. He was an older man; his wavy hair was gray and tossed. Looked like it might have been combed, say, around the turn of the century. His flight jacket was checked, creased and worn - it smelled old and genuine. Old Glory was prominently sewn to its shoulders. He projected a quiet air of proficiency and pride devoid of arrogance. He filed a quick flight plan to Montreal (Expo-67, Air Show) then walked across the tarmac. After taking several minutes to perform his walk-around check the pilot returned to the flight lounge to ask if anyone would be available to stand by with fire extinguishers while he 'flashed the old bird up. Just to be safe.' Though only 12 at the time I was allowed to stand by with an extinguisher after brief instruction on its use -- 'If you see a fire, point, then pull this lever!' I later became a firefighter, but that's another story. The air around the exhaust manifolds shimmered like a mirror from fuel fumes as the huge prop started to rotate. One manifold, then another, and yet another barked -- I stepped back with the others. In moments the Packard-built Merlin engine came to life with a thunderous roar, blue flames knifed from her manifolds. I looked at the others' faces, there was no concern. I lowered the bell of my extinguisher. One of the guys signaled to walk back to the lounge. We did. Several minutes later we could hear the pilot doing his pre flight run-up. He'd taxied to the end of runway 19, out of sight. All went quiet for several seconds; we raced from the lounge to the second story deck to see if we could catch a glimpse of the P-51 as she started down the runway. We could not. There we stood, eyes fixed to a spot half way down 19. Then a roar ripped across the field, much louder than before, like a furious hell spawn set loose---something mighty this way was coming. 'Listen to that thing!' said the controller. In seconds the Mustang burst into our line of sight. Its tail was already off and it was moving faster than anything I'd ever seen by that point on 19. Two-thirds the way down 19 the Mustang was airborne with her gear going up. The prop tips were supersonic; we clasped our ears as the Mustang climbed hellish fast into the circuit to be eaten up by the dog-day haze. We stood for a few moments in stunned silence trying to digest what we'd just seen. The radio controller rushed by me to the radio. 'Kingston tower calling Mustang?' He looked back to us as he waited for an acknowledgment. The radio crackled, 'Go ahead Kingston.' 'Roger Mustang. Kingston tower would like to advise the circuit is clear for a low level pass.' I stood in shock because the controller had, more or less, just asked the pilot to return for an impromptu air show! The controller looked at us. 'What?' He asked. 'I can't let that guy go without asking. I couldn't forgive myself !' The radio crackled once again, 'Kingston, do I have permission for a low level pass, east to west, across the field ?' 'Roger Mustang, the circuit is clear for an east to west pass.' 'Roger, Kingston, I'm coming out of 3000 feet, stand by.' We rushed back onto the second-story deck, eyes fixed toward the eastern haze. The sound was subtle at first, a high-pitched whine, a muffled screech, a distant scream. Moments later the P-51 burst through the haze. Her airframe straining against positive G's and gravity, wing tips spilling contrails of condensed air, prop-tips again supersonic as the burnished bird blasted across the eastern margin of the field shredding and tearing the air. At about 400 mph and 150 yards from where we stood she passed with the old American pilot saluting. Imagine.... A salute ! I felt like laughing, I felt like crying, she glistened, she screamed, the building shook, my heart pounded. Then the old pilot pulled her up and rolled, and rolled, and rolled out of sight into the broken clouds and indelibly into my memory. I've never wanted to be an American more than on that day . It was a time when many nations in the world looked to America as their big brother, a steady and even-handed beacon of security who navigated difficult political water with grace and style; not unlike the pilot who'd just flown into my memory. He was proud, not arrogant, humble, not a braggart, old and honest, projecting an aura of America at its best. That America will return one day, I know it will. Until that time, I'll just send off this story; call it a reciprocal salute, to the old American pilot who wove a memory for a young Canadian that's lasted a lifetime. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment Home Security http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3210.htm Home Style http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3211.htm How I Quit Smoking http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3212.htm Gesto de Amor http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3204.htm Good Long Commercial http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3205.htm Government Employee http://www.buffalosjokes.com/3206.htm Giant Panda Bear http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/pandabear.html Polar Bear Encounter http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/polar.html Our Gifts And Callings http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/giftscallings.html Cost Of A Child http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/costofchild.html Johan's Noah's Ark http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/noahsark.html Chapel With Bone Art http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/chapel.html Creation Museum http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/creationmuseum.html Baby Thoughts http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/babythoughts.html Maxine On Jesus http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/maxineonjesus.html Visit our site at http://www.inspiredbuffalo.com If you are looking to join any of our other fine e-zines visit www.buffaloschips.com ============================================================= >-->From Our Friend TONY In Australia :) ~ZIGGY~ ___---___ .-- --. ./ \. / o \ / .. o | | ;` '. | | : : | | `._ _.' | | ``--.-' .- |. .| _.'| | : : \ `--'--' / : : \ / : : `\ /' : : `--___ ___--' : : --- _.' `-._ ~~/ \____...-' `\ :_. `----./ / |`` . ._: :_:_:_: |__ ~~~ _.-`._:._:-' /``````---``` \ / | \jgs ____/ | \___ __.--'' | ```---..__ `\ _| _.' `\ _.-'' `-._ _.' `\ .-' `-._ _.' `\ .' `-._.' `' >The Anointing Part 8 We cannot measure the Power of God, what yardstick could we use? There just isn't one. But strangely enough we can say the we, you and I personally, can measure God's power in us, by our own weaknesses...our own powerlessness... When Paul wanted God's power to rest upon him, he 'gloried' his own weakness rather than his strengths...(2 Cor 12:9). Isn't it strange that when there's something to be done and we have to do it, we generally CAN do it so we do it for ourselves, but when there's something out there we can't do, we then rely on God... Well, those words rest upon Him in Cor 2 are important for us to understand.... In rest, we cease our own works and we then start to trust and rely on Gods work..We wait for God to guide us, wait for His gentle and loving urging to get things done the right way, His way...we have internal inclinations, we need to recognize which come from God and those that are of ourselves...The anointing is released through us, when we let the Holy Spirit be our guide...He uses our "internal" forces, such as emotion, thoughts and also inclinations... This listening out for and feeling the anointing, can at times be confusing... , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' Now lets think about "unbelief". Sometimes we get an "inclination"...hard to explain but I am sure we have all at times had this "feeling:" that we have just been given a "message" but we are not sure whether or not it came from God...lyrics for a poem come to mind, or maybe a theme for a talk or a sermon...and you think to yourself, "naw, its just me.." hahah, well who else do you think its going to be???are we all that special that to give us an idea for a song, a poem or a sermon that God is really going to send a host of Angels? Or is he going to pick us up and let us hover over the congregation? No! not really... But God moves 'through' us...oh yes! We are His 'conduits..! His vessels to fill! Amen??...sometimes our carnal, human nature wont allow us to realize, that it IS God working through us... Being 'bound' can and will at times inhibit the Spirit working within us...if we don't keep ourselves "free" in the Spirit, the Spirit cant move...we can't 'receive' or release the anointing that He puts upon us...Remember, sometimes we tend to not listen to what the Spirit is telling us, we hear alright, but we choose sometimes, not to listen because maybe we feel what the Spirit is telling us, or asking of us, is not really US. Maybe we are trying to protect out outward appearances or our reputations for being "popular" but that is really pride...for instance, if we are urged by the Spirit to speak in tongues, and we let ourselves be inhibited or feel embarrassed , then that is pride...its being afraid of what 'people" may think...you may as well put out a sign for the Holy Spirit to stay away!....However, if we open ourselves up, make ourselves available to the Holy Spirit. Then things can happen quite differently, we may find ourselves doing things we would not be doing "normally"...we all need to learn to 'submit' and let the Spirit move on us freely...I know that as a young boy and later as an adult, I never learned to cry in public, I always felt ashamed and weak to be seen with tears, but after I found God in my life! OH how I have cried!! Tears of joy, of humility and gratitude! Tears that cleansed my very soul...So, my words to you right now, is if you have received the Holy Spirit, don't deny it! Don't hide it!! And for those who haven't yet received the Holy Ghost, pray for it...Peter said, "Repent every one of you! Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you SHALL receive the Holy Ghost, that's our promise for us today! , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' Not just for those 2000 years ago...its for US TODAY, the Word of God has not and will not change, the promises for Gods children, are still the same....claim them! --- ...Great! Joyce Schowalter New Jersey, USA It was about 1984, when cell phones weren't in common use, and truckers were renowned for helping travelers in need. My brother was heading home from Connecticut in the wee hours of the morning. He was very tired and fell asleep at the wheel on the Merritt Parkway. The old style guardrail ripped his car in two, folding the car in half just behind the front seats. The front wheels/axles were literally in line with the rear wheels and axles. The accident was witnessed by a trucker, who used his CB radio to call for aid. My brother seemed pretty banged up. Police and emergency vehicles all arrived at the scene and my brother was taken to the hospital. After being x-rayed and examined at the emergency room, my brother was ready to leave. He had miraculously only sustained bruises and cuts; very minor injuries considering the accident. My brother was looking for a phone to call home, when to his amazement he saw the trucker who had seen it all happen in the lobby waiting for him. The trucker asked him about the injuries and then asked where he lived and how he planned to get home. My brother told the trucker he lived in New Jersey and didn't yet know how he'd get home. He needed to find a payphone. The trucker replied, "I'll take you home." Over 100 miles later, a full size tractor-trailer rumbled into a quiet neighborhood, and the trucker made good on his word. My brother was home. My brother offered to reward the trucker for his incredible support. Our parents' house was very large so it was evident my father was well to do. I'm sure the trucker must have known he could get a very decent reward... if he accepted. He did not. He refused to even be compensated for the fuel he had used. My brother headed to the house as the trucker pulled away, never to be seen or heard from again. The incredibly kind and unselfish actions of this man have stayed with both my brother and me all these years. My brother and I have had good lives and we routinely perform random acts of kindness to this day. I was not even there and was forever moved by this man's actions. One day, if an opportunity arises, I will give of myself as the trucker gave of himself. I wish I had met him. I'd love to see him face to face today and tell him of the way he affected me. My deepest thanks and appreciation go to this unknown man for the help he gave my brother -- and the men he helped us become. =======HeroicStories====== >-->From Kidwarmers: , . ,~~~~~~~~. /| |\ (Oooooch...) {_;""\} ( *MHMPFF* )O o (* @'-, \|||/ `~~~~~~~~" ,~ \~,"" (o o) ; , (" ,----ooO--(_)-------. | | | | Please | /| | \ | don't feed the | ,(=~~==[]) | TROLL's ! | ( \`-' ;( '--------------Ooo--' ) \ /\ \ |__|__| ( ) ) ) ) || || * /_/ /_/ ooO Ooo |_\ |_\ JW >THE FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY Cali, 4, wanted to play a new computer game.
