I was watching Fox News a little this morning and saw my Ohio representative give a sincere heartfelt reason for his changed vote from no to yes on the ObamaCare bill. It irritated me because the reasons he was giving are just the reasons I do NOT want this horrendous bill passed. I am concerned for those with medical conditions that cause them to have very expensive treatments. I think 'what will happen when they get older'? Under this bill, they may well be deemed not eligible for their medicine because of its cost vs age formula and some government panel will say it is not justified and they won't OK spending the money for the greater good of the younger society. So we may loose many of our loved ones early in life just because they require an expensive treatment. Think of it. Those with diabetes, cancer, MS, Crohn's disease, Aides, heart disease, liver disease and the list goes on. These people who are getting their treatments now through their insurance or through donations may be left high and dry when they are in their 50's or 60's. Just one horrible aspect of it. IRS agents will increase by over 1500 more so that they can breath down the necks of all American citizens to make sure they are paying their fair share for this healthcare bill. They will also want every aspect of your life documented so that government can know every detail of your private life and step in if you are not walking the line of what it deems is proper and good for you. It will be on you about what you eat, drink, smoke, how you live, and how you are with your kids. All because it will have the right to have its foot in your door for access anytime it wants since they are all about your well being. Big brother watching and controlling every single aspect of you and your family's life. They want us to believe this isn't going to cost us any more money. That some how adding 15 mil right away to our state Medicaid is going to reduce our deficit. We already are almost owned by China - how much more before they come knocking at our door and want to cash in on our huge dept to them and other countries? States are cutting back to try to keep services going at the minimum and now they want to add to the problem by adding a bunch more costs to each of their Medicaid woes? The whole thing is not about helping the poor. People get grants and get help from generous benefactors now for health care they can't afford. We asked them to reduce our costs - not make everyone pay more to even the costs out amongst all of us! That's not what we wanted. There are many ways to make health care affordable across the board without overhauling the whole system and penalizing every one of us just because we were born here! I was thankful to see the GOP leader of the house from my state of Ohio come out and speak against this craziness. I felt better about Ohio. >Here is what the Patriot Update says we can do to stop this NOW: The House of Representatives is about to vote on a bill that would lead to a government takeover of one-sixth of our economy - and they are using every bullying tactic, some of them unconstitutional - to get their way. Speaker Pelosi will do anything to get every last vote, and it is up to us to defeat her and her horrible bill. This weekend as the vote draws closer, please take some time out of your busy schedule to make one final push against Obamacare 2.0. Here is what you can do. 1) Call your congressman and tell him or her to vote NO on Obamacare 2.0, whether it is a "real" vote, or a vote to "deem that the bill be passed." http://freedomworks.send-list.com/click/member/210/1/ 2) Protest outside the local, district office of your Congressman at 12pm on Saturday. You can find his or her office location by clicking here. Bring your friends and some signs, and alert the local media. http://freedomworks.send-list.com/click/member/210/2/ 3) If you live in the DC area, join us on Saturday for one more protest against Obamacare 2.0. The 12pm protest at the Capitol building will be followed by a candlelight vigil in the evening. For more information about how you can participate, please contact us. http://freedomworks.send-list.com/click/member/210/3/ We have one long, final weekend to put a dagger into Obamacare 2.0. If we work together and continue to make phone calls we can convince enough Democrats to vote NO on Obamacare 2.0. This vote will be very close, so it is more important than ever that your congressman hears from you one last time. http://freedomworks.send-list.com/click/member/210/4/ Thank you for your tireless efforts to stop this awful government takeover of our healthcare system. Col. James T. Patterson I recently decided to visit some of the veterans in several nursing homes. I was especially interested in doing this since my dad is a veteran of World War II and I am a reservist in the United States Air Force. I thought the visits would be nice, but I was not prepared for what occurred. I guess I thought these veterans were regularly remembered, especially on holidays like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Veterans Day, but unfortunately that is not the case. These men and women who brought peace to the world and then quietly came home and rebuilt the nation, have virtually been forgotten and unappreciated. What they did is the platform upon which this nation so proudly stands, yet fewer and fewer of our population understand the sacrifices and commitment these people made. I wore my uniform when I visited these veterans. I had no idea how much that symbol would mean to these noble warriors. I visited one man who hadn't spoken in four months. I was told he probably wouldn't acknowledge my visit. When I walked into the room, he saw the uniform and sat straight up in bed, eyes bright and attentive. I told him I wanted to express my appreciation for what he had done. I told him how honored I was to be in the presence of someone who had done so much for the peace of this world and the growth of this nation. I said I wanted to give him a miniature flag as an expression of my gratitude. He took the flag and held it to his lips and sobbed. He held my hand and said, "Thank you, thank you, thank you." These were the first words he had uttered in months. There was not a dry eye in the room. In one nursing home, we had the Honor Guard from Dyess Air Force Base present the colors before the veterans. As the Guard entered the room, these wonderful men, with tears streaming down their cheeks, placed their hands over their hearts and pledged allegiance to the flag that they loved. In two other homes, we had been given a new flag from the U.S. Senator. We brought the veterans outside to view the flying of the new colors. When I gave the command to "Present Arms," these veterans who were stooped with age, stood as tall as they could and saluted. As the National Anthem was sung, tears flowed with grateful appreciation. I proudly cried with these soldiers of the past. I was honored to talk with men who landed at Normandy, fought in North Africa, Sicily, Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Bulge. I visited with men who survived the attack at Pearl Harbor and three years in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. These quiet heroes cried and shared their cherished memories with me. Over and over, they and their families told me how much my visit and my simple expression of respect had meant to these men of history. Never have I felt so humble and yet so proud and lifted up as I did in the presence of these veterans. Today, the veterans of World War II are dying at a rate of 1000 a day. Soon, they'll be gone. For you active duty military and reservists, I implore you to put on your uniform and go visit any and all veterans you know. I encourage everyone not to waste another day, but rather, sit by the side of these honorable men and women. Hear their stories. Tell them you care. Learn from them. It will be more rewarding than anything you have imagined. -- Lt. Col. James T. Rossman, who lives clear across the country, told us about her mother and stepfather, both 90 years old, in good physical health, enjoying married life together in metro Atlanta. But that wasn't the reason she was writing. She wanted us to know her parents had a story to tell. A few weeks ago we went to meet Peter and Elise Eaves in their Dunwoody home. I don't know what I was expecting but when they answered the door they looked like a fit couple, maybe in their mid 70's, not 90 years old. We interviewed each of them separately and then together, and they told their amazing story. Elise and Peter first met in 1938 in Atlanta. Elise was a UGA student born and raised in Ansley Park. She met Peter at a noon hour dance one day. "I was leaning over the piano watching somebody play when he walked up. I thought he was cute," says Elise, laughing. "He was very persistent, he asked me out, just put the pressure on." Peter remembered their first dance together. "She's a beauty and we just fit together when we danced so well." The story after that unfolded much the way you would expect. They fell in love and got engaged. Then Peter was drafted in 1941. While he was gone, Elise's mother pressured her. "My mother did not like him. She kept telling me he would not make me happy, he would not be a good husband. Back then you thought your mother knew best." Elise broke the engagement. "It felt like a knife had been stuck in my heart of course." Peter was devastated, but he returned from the war and went on with life. The two of them lived parallel, yet separate lives, finding love with other people, marrying, having children. But their love for each other remained. For many years Peter called Elise on her birthday. "My husband took it very lightly. It didn't bother him. We would all be sitting at the dinner table(when the phone would ring) and he would say 'Now let's all be quiet to see what your mom has to say to her old boyfriend." Elise loved her husband deeply, was happy being married to him. But she still thought of Peter. "I still carried the love for him. I think you can love more than one person. I loved my husband very much. He was a wonderful man and father." And Peter loved his wife too. It wasn't as if they had made choices that made them unhappy. "She was a wonderful wife, a wonderful person, a beautiful girl." The years flew by, Peter and Elise seeing each other a handful of times over the next five decades. "I saw him maybe four times over a period of years. He came to my mother's funeral and to my 50th reunion from girls' highschool, so we saw each other change over the years." Then Peter's wife died. "I called him to offer my condolences. Nine months later my husband died." We asked Peter how long he waited after hearing the news to contact Elise. "About 15 minutes" he said. Sitting together on the couch in their home they talked about what it was like to have a second chance 57 years later. "We picked up where we left off. It was like we hadn't been apart all those years. We felt like teenagers again really, really," and the two of them started laughing. Elise said her grown children were anxious to meet Peter. "My girls couldn't wait to meet this man. Is he better looking than dad? Is he taller? Is he shorter? What does he look like?" Peter says there was no awkward reacquaintance period. "We picked up where we left off emotionally and the love came back right again. It was living in us all that time. I said 'We've outlived all the people who had come between us so we can be together now.'" Peter proposed a second time, with the same ring. He had kept it all those years. Elise accepted and this month they'll celebrate 15 years of marriage. We were there as they danced together to the music from their era, big band swing music. We were there as they fixed a healthy lunch in the kitchen and there was a hilarious moment when my photographer innocently asked them about romance to which Elise replied,"You mean do you still have sex? Yes. It surprises our doctor everytime we get a physical." Having established the fact that their romance was very much alive we asked about their overall health. "It's good. We're still fortunate that way. We don't have a walker yet," and then they burst out laughing again. We last saw Peter and Elise last friday night. They were at a dance at the Roswell Recreation Center. To see them dressed up and floating across the floor is to witness a happy ending to a story that Theirs is a love affair that was delayed more than a half a century. But that love prevailed, allowing Peter and Elise to save the last dance for each other. "The best years of our lives have been the ones we've spent together I think." ~by Jaye Watson with NBC television affiliate 11 Alive in Atlanta, GA ============================================================== >-->From Our Friends at TruthOrTradition: __ /_/\/\ \_\ / /_/ \ \_\/\ \ \_\/ unknown The Last Week of Christ's Life: 'Beware of the pleasant view of the Fatherhood of God. God is so kind and loving that of course He will forgive us. That sentiment has no place whatever in the New Testament. The only ground on which God can forgive us is the tremendous tragedy of the Cross of Christ. To put forgiveness on any other ground is unconscious blaspheme. The only ground on which God can forgive sin and reinstate us in His favor is through Christ and in no other way. Forgiveness, which is so easy for us to accept, cost the agony of Calvary. It is possible to take the forgiveness of sin and our sanctification with simplicity of faith and to forget at what enormous cost to God that it was all made ours. Forgiveness is the divine miracle of grace. It cost God the Cross of Jesus Christ before He could forgive sin and remain a Holy God. When once you realize all that it cost God to forgive you, you will be held as in vice, constrained by the love of God.' He goes on to say on November 21: 'Never build your preaching or forgiveness on the fact that God is our Father and that He will forgive us because He loves us. It is untrue to Jesus Christ's revelation of God. It makes the cross unnecessary and the redemption ‘much ado about nothing.' If God does forgive sin, it is because of the death of Christ.' That is exactly correct. God loves everybody, but He is not going to save everybody. Love does not save. Sin required a payment, and that payment was in the person of Jesus Christ, the Lamb, the Passover, the one from among the flock, the Man who died instead of us so that we could have everlasting life, so that we could have life in the age to come. The farm was where they had grown up and had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine, which topped the hill behind the farm. Through the years the tree had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside. The young siblings had fond memories of their childhood here, but the city hustle and bustle added more excitement to their lives, and called them away to a different life. The old folks no longer showed their horses, for the years had taken their toll, and getting out to the barn on those frosty mornings mornings was getting harder, but it gave them a reason to get up in the mornings and a reason to live. They sold a few foals each year, and the horses were their reason for joy in the morning and contentment at day's end. Angry, as they prepared to leave, the young couple confronted the old folks "Why do you not at least dispose of The Old One." She is no longer of use to you. It's been years since you've had foals from her. You should cut corners and save so you can have more for yourselves. How can this old worn out horse bring you anything but expense and work? Why do you keep her anyway?" The old man looked down at his worn boots, holes in the toes, scuffed at the barn floor and replied, " Yes, I could use a pair of new boots. His arm slid defensively about the Old One's neck as he drew her near with gentle caressing he rubbed her softly behind her ears. He replied softly, "We keep her because of love. Nothing else, just love." Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the city as darkness stole through the valley. The old couple shook their heads in sorrow that it had not been a happy visit. A tear fell upon their cheeks. How is it that these young folks do not understand the peace of the love that filled their hearts? So it was, that because of the unhappy leave-taking, no one noticed the insulation smoldering on the frayed wires in the old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the "Old One". In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze and the hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their beloved horses. But the flames were roaring now, and the blazing heat drove him back. He sank sobbing to the ground, helpless before the fire's fury. His wife back from calling for help cradled him in her arms, clinging to each other, they wept at their loss. By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking, glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife, exhausted from their grief, huddled together before the barn. They were speechless as they rose from the cold snow covered ground. They nodded thanks to the firemen as there was nothing anyone could do now. The old man turned to his wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as his shaking old hands clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red bandana. Brokenly he whispered, "We have lost much, but God has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us gather strength and climb the hill to the old pine where we have sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared and pray for our beloved most precious gifts that have been taken from us. And so, he took her by the hand and slowly helped her up the snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back of his old and withered hand. The journey up the hill was hard for their old bodies in the steep snow. As they stepped over the little knoll at the crest of the hill, they paused to rest, looking up to the top of the hill the old couple gasped and fell to their knees in amazement at the incredible beauty before them. Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a Christmas tree such as this. They were breathless as the old man held his wife tighter in his arms. Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible joy. Amazed and mystified, he took his wife by the hand and pulled her forward. There, beneath the tree, in resplendent glory, a mist hovering over and glowing in the darkness was their Christmas gift. Shadows glistening in the night light. Bedded down about the "Old One" close to the trunk of the tree, was the entire herd, safe. At the first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar with her muzzle and had led the horses through it. Slowly and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them up the hill, stepping cautiously through the snow. The foals were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped like rabbits. The mares that were in foal with a new year’s crop of babies, pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine. And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of the old man and his wife. Those she loved she had not disappointed. Her body was brittle with years, tired from the climb, but the golden eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift--- Because of love. Only Because of love. Tears flowed as the old couple shouted their praise and joy... And again the peace of love filled their hearts. This is a true story. The gift of eternal life is given to those who have faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin. This precious gift is never linked to a specific amount of faith; rather, the only requirement of the gospel is that our faith be genuine. In fact, Jesus stated that a small amount of faith can accomplish more than we can imagine. Matthew 17:20 "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." This is amazing! Jesus used the example of a mustard seed because it was the smallest seed known. A few chapters later, He made a similar statement; "If you have faith and do not doubt...you can say to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done" (Matthew 21:21). If we are a child of God then we have already been given sufficient faith by Jesus, "the author and perfecter of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). There is therefore NO obstacle which cannot be cast aside! Of course, genuine faith also implies an alignment with the will of God. Jesus even said, "He can do only what He sees His Father doing" (John 5:19). This is why we don't see individuals moving physical mountains today - it's not in the will of God. However, it's most definitely in God's will that we move all mountains which threaten to block our path toward Him or hinder His plan for our life. If we really believe, we ought to be living our life according to His truth and the faith we have been given! Though we may face mountains in our job, relationships, finances, health, kids, or parents; though we may face temptations or addictions which appear impossible to conquer; though we may battle a low self esteem which says we can't, we must believe the Word of God is true! "With God ALL things are possible" (Matthew 19:26). Though we may not understand, we must believe, in faith, that God is infinitely greater than the bounds of our understanding. We are not walking alone and NO problem is beyond His ability to direct. If we desire to live the full life God intends - the life that honors Him with every move and even every breath - then God's Word must become our foundation. Whatever problems we face, we must fall on our knees with humble submission to His will and seek His face in prayer. Then we must rise up and step forward without doubt, and, in His strength, believe we have been given the faith to move mountains. He became something of a local joke when a newspaper began keeping a record of his predictions and showed that he'd been wrong almost three hundred times in a single year. That kind of notoriety was enough to get him fired. He moved to another part of the country and applied for a similar job. One blank on the job application called for the reason for leaving his previous position. The annimated singing toy that resembles a largemouth bass that contains a motion detector that activates a small computer chip that prompted him to start singing, startling anyone who happens to be walking by. You might remember seeing him most recently in a McDonald's Restaurant commercial singing, "Give that fillet O'fish, Give me that fish....." Officially, he's known as Big Mouth Billy Bass. The animatronic singing toy was a popular gag gift item about ten years ago. Made of plastic stretched over a mechanical frame, at first glance it closely resembles a mounted trophy fish. A product of Gemmy Industries, Billy turns his head outwards, wiggles on its trophy plaque and sings kitschy songs, such as "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and "Take Me To The River." I share all of this to share a story I encountered on a discussion group recently. Unfortunately, I lost the address link. It seems a lady on the group and her husband had gotten a Billy Bass as a gag gift at a Christmas party many years ago. While they'd had a lot of fun with Billy, he was, well, quite honesty, getting on their nerves. Still, there was some fondness for Billy and all the laughs he generated. They wanted to get rid of him, but also were sentamental enough they didn't want to just sumarily dump him in the garbage. After some thought, they installed a new long-life battery, packed up Billy Bass and headed to her husband's favorite fishing lake up north. Now, this lake was in a really remote area of Michigan. In the middle of the lake there happened to be a small island. On that island was an old abandoned fishing cabin. Over the years the cabin had sort of become community property. Local folks would head out to the cabin by canoe to camp a couple of days. The lady and her husband took their canoe, bundled up Billy Bass and headed to the cabin in the middle of nowhere. They carried Billy Bass to the remote cabin, affixed him to the wall, and headed home. Can you imagine the surprise of some fisherman heading out into the great outdoors with plans to get away from everything opening the door of the cabin and being greeted by a singing Billy Bass? I just wish the lady and her husband had enough foresight to install a battery powered video camera to capture the reaction of unsuspecting fishermen walking through the door of that old cabin. The lady and her husband are planning to return to the lake every few years with fresh batteries. You wouldn't want Billy Bass to lose his voice would you? I've often thought that God does us that way sometime. He puts surprises in our lives that we'd never expect in places we'd never expect. You've been warned. Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." ---John 3:5-9 Keith The Sermon Fodder Guy --- ...Here is a pic of the bass: http://tinyurl.com/ye4gl9a ==================================================================== ,,,, ,;) .';;;;', ;;,,_,-.-.,;;'_,|I\;;;/),,_ `';;/:|:);{ ;;;|| \;/ /;;;\__ L;/-';/ \;;\',/;\/;;;.') \ .:`''` - \;;'.__/;;;/ . _'-._ .'/ \ \;;;;;;/.'_7:. One of those strange newspaper stories told of a 19-year-old woman who had been charged in Los Angeles with two counts of trespassing -- after sneaking into the home of actor Brad Pitt and trying on his clothes. I suppose we have different ways of adoring our heroes.. But who are our real heroes? I was given a little quiz recently. See how well you do: Name the five wealthiest people in the world. Name five Olympic gold medalists. Name the last five winners of your national beauty contest. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. Name the last half-dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. Name the last decade's national or world champions in your favorite sport. These people, of course, are the best in their fields. But fame is fleeting and outstanding performance is too soon forgotten. Now try another quiz: List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you. If you found the second quiz easier, it may be because those people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the best degrees or pedigrees, nor are they the most honored or acclaimed. The people who make a difference are those who care. They may never have seen a battle; never scored a winning goal; never been featured in a magazine. But they have been busy helping you to be the best you can be. Let's remember and thank our real heroes. And don't be surprised if someone thanks you. -- Steve Goodier ================================================================ z z Z .--. This day of rest (Sabbath) was a covenant between God and man and God said rest and he meant it. . . . So, I’m officially off 52 days a year. I’m taking a nap on the back porch on my day off and my neighbor stops by. “What are you doing sleeping in the middle of the day?” I answer, “Oh, I’m just honoring and obeying God. I’m just following instructions.” Source: http://transformingsermons.blogspot.com/ (The Timothy Report, www.timothyreport.com) ================================================================== _____|~~\_____ _____________ _-~ \ | \ _- | ) \ |__/ \ \ _- ) | | | \ \ _- | ) / |--| | | __-_______________ /__/_______| |_________ ( |---- | | `---------------'--\\\\ .`--' -Glyde- `|||| >-->TRUST IN GOD Although you’re tired and weary Just rest the whole night through As God gives us the mornings To see all things anew. For things look so much brighter When they’re slept on a while You wake up in the morning And soon you want to smile. You look and see the sunshine The bright blue sky above You wonder why you fretted And you know God is love. With all this to surround you There’s naught but this to say And so with song you praise Him Give thanks for this new day.
