Then I saw them. Pointing and hooting, they could barely stand up, they were so overcome with mirth. As a single Mom and a secretary at the main campus of a large university, I was sick to death of teenage boys pretending to pursue an education, and I wondered, as they pointed in my direction, if they were laughing at me. Then I saw him. Standing in the middle of a street, trembling violently, apparently unable to move. The boys thought it was simply hilarious. Suddenly, I felt a terrible rage. I recognized the professor, though I had never met him. Immediately I tore across campus, anger giving wings to my feet. I wanted to reach those boys and just annihilate them. I wanted to be the strongest man in the world and beat them to a pulp! But I raced toward the helpless professor instead, who was having one of his most violent attacks. Professor Smythe had Parkinson's Disease. When I finally reached him, cars were zooming around him, blowing their horns, and there I was, no power at all, and not a rock within reach. I didn't know him, except to exchange greetings, but he always had the most angelic smile. What was he doing in the street, alone? Usually his graduate students guarded him like faithful dogs, walking with him wherever he needed to go, and protecting him from bullies and jerks. His courage amazed me. I reached him, without a plan. I tried to talk to him, to find out what to do, but he was shaking so violently, he couldn't speak. So, I did the only thing I could think of. I threw my arms around him, and I held him close, whispering in his ear. "Shush. Sshh. Everything will be all right. I'm here. I'll help you. Sshhh." I held him, as close as I could, ignoring the hoots and hollers of the idiots in the street, and I rocked him, speaking in low tones, much as I did for my own baby daughter, when she would sob those breathy sobs that children often do. After a time, the professor's trembling calmed a little, and I was able to help him to the sidewalk. I walked with him until we came upon his student, who had been unavoidably detained. He got so upset when he heard what had happened, that he vowed to make certain that at least two students would always be there to accompany the professor. I began to time my lunch to coincide with his walk across campus. I looked for opportunities to speak to him. He was forgiving, and the kindest man I had ever known. There was no treatment for Parkinson's in 1969, but Professor Smythe was never resentful. He would often say that perhaps he could give people a reason to practice kindness. Perhaps people would reflect upon life's blessings, believing that "there but for the grace of God, go I." I said, that perhaps God was just making a bigger place in hell, for the one's who never had a thought. He laughed, but he let me know that he felt no ill will towards them. I figured it was good that I never saw those two boys again, because I fantasized their demise, in gut wrenching detail. One of the last times that I saw Professor Smythe, he told me that as he stood there trembling in the street, he had prayed that God would send him an angel, to help him. "And God sent you," he said, looking at me with his kind eyes. It gave me a chill to hear that, and it made me want to become the kind of person that Professor Smythe believed I was. After the spring term came and went, Professor Smythe never returned. He died six months later. Though I've never been able to completely overcome my temper, I think I have become a more gentle person, because of that precious man, and his quiet strength. -- Jaye Lewis ___________________________________________ Jaye is a southern writer and Heartwarmer Gem, who lives and writes in the beautiful mountains of southwestern Virginia. To whom it may concern After the Boy Scout’s recent decision to further empower the homosexual political movement, I had to think a while before I wrote this letter. As I have gotten older, I have learned not to act rashly. I have now thought through what I must do, but do not wish to do. I began scouting as a cub scout in the 1960’s. I eventually made it all the way to eagle in the early 1970’s. My mom hung the picture of our area wide “Eagle court of honor” in her hallway with pride until the day she died. When my two sons came of age I encouraged them to become scouts. One of them also made it all the way to the coveted rank of eagle. I had looked forward to my grandsons following the same course… and the privilege of sharing Scouting with them. One of my fondest memories with my sons was at Philmont scout camp. We camped on the top of a mountain. The next morning we literally walked in the clouds as they rolled along the ground. Together we “touched the sky.” I and my two sons swore the following oath as a prerequisite to our becoming scouts… Boy Scout Oath or Promise On my honor, I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Let’s see, the final point of said oath, i.e. the punch line of the oath that we swore, and BSA still posts today has young men swearing to be… “MORALLY STRAIGHT!” How do you define “straight?” Even the homosexuals define “straight” the same way I do. There are many things that I disagree with the homosexual political move movement over… The one thing we do agree on is the definition of “straight.” Let’s see they use the words “gay” and “straight.” You still post the scout oath, this oath… Did I miss something? I was once proud of the stand taken by the Boy Scouts to defend a scout’s right to be reverent… His obligation to have some moral fiber about him. You once defended said right all the way to the Supreme Court. The girl scouts caved in a long time ago… but the Boy Scouts stood firm until now. You have made clear that even the “Morally straight” Boy Scouts of America can be bought off like a corrupt politician. A scout is “reverent,” unless money is to be made? Today I am relinquishing the title of “Eagle Scout.” Do with it what you may. It is no longer a badge of honor, but it is now a symbol of corporate greed. For over 40 years I was proud of being an eagle, and the fact that my son after me was an eagle. Today, wearing the title of a “Christian” still means far more to me than the rank of an eagle. Swearing your duty to God still means that you must be morally straight even if the Boy Scouts chooses to be become morally corrupt so they can make more money. “If you say, "See, we did not know this," Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work ?” Solomon 1000BC (Proverbs 24:12) God has spoken on this matter very clearly in His NEW TESTAMENT… Actually it describes what is now happening to the Boy Scout organization. History repeats itself regularly. Over the years, I have watched many claim to be “Christian” as you claim to be “morally straight” while hiding from this pronouncement in scripture. Romans 1:21,28 "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.” How can you promise to do your duty to God while you defend, endorse and embrace what He calls a “reprobate mind?” Let’s see how does your Bible read? Maybe it says “depraved mind” (NASB), or perhaps “indecent acts” (NIV) other translations call the behavior an abomination! Can you hold a straight face and call it “morally straight?” "?Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing." - John Stuart Mill, 1867 When I take an oath it means something. I also made an oath to the Lord Jesus. “Morally Straight” is not the compatible with “depraved”- The Holy Spirit gave said description of Homosexuality. All the corporate money, all the votes of your board members and all the political wishy washy maneuverings in the world cannot change it. The behavior is depraved. My mom was so proud when I put on my eagle badge… I am glad she didn’t live to have to watch me take it off in disgust. Jerry Blount An Ex-Eagle scout www.JerrysChristianjottings.com - Because I choose to remain a Christian… “Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar,” - Romans 3:4 --- ...Here's Another Eagle Scout that feels the same... My brother Adrian has been an Eagle Scout, led his son into being an eagle scout and has been our area scout leader for many years. He too has sadly decided to quit. He cannot in his heart serve God and still stand with the Boy Scouts who he too feels have taken a stand that is against God. He told me that since they are allowing homosexual boys in that he believes it would only be a matter of time before those boys grow up and become leaders themselves. , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' See these fine teachings... He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the Church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age. After a warm welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gate to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he began to speak.... "When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50 odd years of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heart break and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me... The only thing that would comfort was this verse......... "Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, We are weak but He is strong..... Yes, Jesus loves me... The Bible tells me so." When he finished, the church was quiet. You actually could hear his footsteps as he shuffled back to his chair. I don't believe I will ever forget it. A pastor once stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best." For us over middle age (or even those almost there) and all you others, check out this newest version of Jesus Loves Me. YES, JESUS LOVES ME FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO. Though my steps are oh, so slow, With my hand in His I'll go On through life, let come what may, He'll be there to lead the way. (CHORUS) When the nights are dark and long, In my heart He puts a song. Telling me in words so clear, "Have no fear, for I am near." (CHORUS) When my work on earth is done, And life's victories have been won. He will take me home above, Then I'll understand His love (CHORUS) I love Jesus, does He know? Have I ever told Him so? Jesus loves to hear me say, That I love Him every day. (CHORUS) If you think this is neat, please pass it on to your friends. If you do not pass it on, nothing bad will happen, but you will have missed an opportunity to "Reach out and Touch" a friend or a loved one. God Bless Us All! --- ...Amen! About a century ago Stephen Grellat was led one day to go out to a heavily forested area of America to preach. It was a strong inward compulsion of the Holy Spirit. When he arrived at the loggers' camp, he found they had moved to another location, and their shanties were deserted. However, he was so sure he was sent by God that he went into an empty shanty and preached to the bare walls the sermon God had placed upon his heart. He then returned to his home, He could never understand why God would send him to preach to an empty shanty. Many years later, as he walked across a bridge, a man grasped his arm, "I found you at last," the man said. "I think you are mistaken," said Mr. Grellat. "No, Didn't you preach in an empty shanty in the woods years ago?" "Yes," Mr. Grellat admitted, "but no one was there." "I was the foreman in charge of the loggers," the stranger explained. "We had moved to a new location, before long I realized I'd left one of my tools behind. I returned to get it and heard a voice in one of the shanties, I peered through a crack between the logs and saw you. You never saw me, but I listened to the rest of the sermon, God touched my heart that day and I became so convicted of my sins, that after some time I purchased a Bible, repented of my sins, and became a Christian, then I began to win my men to Christ. Your sermon has led over a thousand people to Christ, and three of them have gone on to become missionaries!" A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it." The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers." The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose." So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap -- alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral; the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. -<>- \ /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \ /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \ /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\ \ / /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\ () - - /\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \ /\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\ \ /\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\ //\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\///\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\/\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ >A New Dawning I awaken sleepily yawning A bright new day is dawning, Time to arise and greet the morn A new world is just being born. I take my seat in the old wicker chair And marvel at sights around me there, I tremble but not from the cold As God's majestic miracles unfold. The countryside like a kaleidoscope Reflects new colors and inspiring hope, I witness God painting from his palette And am awed by the pure majesty of it. Power from on high - spiritual oneness with God Almighty - a son of God! 1 John 3: [2] Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he {Jesus Christ] shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. -<>- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >Forgiveness Remember that [forgiving otherers] forgiveness is primarily for YOU Grudges take up brain capacity and prevent us from performing at our very best. What we focus our minds upon grows; this is true of hatred too. Therefore, it is impossible to truly achieve great things for ourselves when we have a lot of our energetic capacity tied up in negativity. Remember that forgiveness is primarily for YOU. It frees up your energy tremendously. So forgive all grudges, no matter how old they may be, and seek reconciliation. If you find this hard, begin with the easiest ones first. Then gradually work up to the harder ones. All the years you have waited for them to "make it up to you" and all the energy you expended trying to make them change (or make them pay) kept the old wounds from healing and gave pain from the past free rein to shape and even damage your life. And still they may not have changed. Nothing you have done has made them change. Indeed, they may never change. Inner peace is found by changing yourself, not the people who hurt you. And you change yourself for yourself, for the joy, serenity, peace of mind, understanding, compassion, laughter, and bright future that you get." --Author Unknown --- ...Good advice. I'd done a little shopping and was walking home with nothing much on my to-do list. I overtook a wee old lady. To be honest, she hardly registered on my radar. Just another ordinary old lady. Then she carefully sat one of her shopping bags down, straightened up and took a deep breath. The bag held a big box of soap powder. I could've carried it all day without noticing, but she hadn't made it fifty yards from the shop before stopping. I walked past... then turned back and asked if she needed a hand. She explained that normally she had a shopping cart and the box wouldn't have been a problem. But as she hadn't much money, the soap was too good a bargain to miss. While she explained I picked up the bag and we started walking. I asked her where she was going then lied and said it was exactly on my way. A few steps along I realised I had to walk really slowly so not to tire her out - which gave us plenty of time to chat. But what would we talk about? She said she was 92 in a month. Then said she was retired from The Salvation Army. She'd joined as a teenager, met her husband, her only love, at the Army College. Then they'd set out on a life of service together. She talked about the work in poor, inner-city areas. How her husband had died suddenly thirty years ago while they were both out doing the good work. She had so looked forward to growing old with him, and didn't understand why it happened, but was absolutely sure it was part of the bigger plan. Wow! As I listened, my admiration grew. I walked her to her door, despite her protests that it must be out of my way. There Mrs Thompson and I introduced ourselves and shook hands. I said it was a real pleasure to meet her. She said when I stopped she saw I had a good face. Walking away, so much ran through my mind. I was touched she'd said I had a good face. I know only too well how badly my heart would fare if held up to public inspection, so if my face looked good that's a step in the right direction. It was an honour to have helped her. Then I remembered how, only minutes before, I had thought of her as just another ordinary old lady. How wrong I had been! The more I get to know people, the more I hear their stories, the more I come to realise there is no such thing as an ordinary person. Mrs Thompson, thank you for helping me! =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: \_/ --(_)-- . / \ /_\ |Q| .-----' '-----. __ /____[SCHOOL]___\ ())) | [] .-.-.
