( ( '.___.' ,') (__,-. )--' jgs '.____)--' >A HEAVENLY VOICE by Lissa M. Lee Last week at work, a dear friend of my boss dropped by and related this story. His company had been toiling and negotiating on an offer for months. It had become the obsession of his office. They finally had a realistic proposal and he was sitting across from his customer. "Thanks, Dave," he said, "but we'll have to pass this year." He was devastated. How could he face his employees? The loss of this million dollar deal would result in layoffs. His stomach initially tied in knots over presenting the bid, was now wrenched tighter. He simply could not understand how the client could afford to refuse their offer. He dreaded returning to the office. Pulling into a truck stop he ordered coffee before returning to the office. His waitress was friendly, although slightly distracted. As she poured the coffee and he nonchalantly said hello and asked how she was. He fully expected the traditional Southern response, "Fine and you?" "Oh, I've been better," she began. "My husband abandoned me and the kids after Katrina. Left us stranded here and this is the only job I could find. It ain't too bad mind you. The boss lets me work around my kids so they ain't at home alone. But yesterday someone stole my purse. It had everything in it, birth certificates, shot records, social security cards, everything I had evacuated with. And every penny we had, $300 was in there. Now I don't so much mind they took the money, it's just money, but all those important papers. I need those for the kids and their schooling. I don't even know if I can get new papers with New Orleans being in such a mess." He bobbed his head with feigning interest in her conversation. He wanted to interrupt her and point out that she had only lost $300. He had just lost millions. Before he could reply, she turned to another table. Sipping the warmth, he thought about their dilemmas. Both of them had been dealt a raw deal, but self-pity made him feel that somehow his loss was greater. Proportionally though, their losses were probably equal. As he drank his coffee he flipped his cell phone and attempted to scan emails. No reception. Shutting it, he sank into the comfort of the red plastic padded dining booth and stared aimlessly. His daze was interpreted by the newly familiar voice. "They found it!" She squealed with delight. "They found my purse! All our important papers were still there. We're gonna be all right!" Everyone in the truck stop applauded. She came to refresh his coffee. He declined the offer and congratulated her good fortune. She was gracious and told him to have a nice day as he took his ticket and headed for the cash register. "She's still out $300," the heavenly Voice whispered. "Okay," he acknowledged. "I'll leave a $20. That's a 1000% tip." "She's still out $300," came the Voice again. "All right," he moaned, "I've got $50 in my wallet. I'll leave that." "She lost $300," repeated the Voice. "Look, God," he began. "I just lost a million dollar deal. Have a little sympathy for me!" "She lost $300," the Voice insisted. "All right, all right," he grudgingly relented. Taking out his American Express he paid for the coffee and wrote in a $300 tip. Walking through the parking lot to his car, he tried his cell phone again, still no tower. He got in his car and headed for the office trying to think of a diplomatic way to break the bad news. Opening the door to his office, his secretary practically leapt from her desk to greet him. "Mr. Smith," she bubbled, "You'll ever guess who just called!" "Do I have to?" he asked. "Oh no sir, I was just so excited I couldn't help myself," she beamed. "Mr. Jones called right after you left. He tried getting you on your cell, but he said he couldn't reach you. Must have been in a dead zone, right sir?" She inhaled and continued at lightening speed, "Anyway he said he went over the figures you gave him with his sales and production staff after your meeting. They decided to double the order. Can you believe it! Doubled the order! Our price was just too good to pass. They have faxed over the signed contracts! Isn't that fantastic? The contracts are on you desk." Stunned, he looked at his secretary in utter disbelief, "He said what?" She slowly repeated the telephone conversation. He could not believe it. He walked into the office to examine the faxed contracts for himself. He noted the time on the fax and the American Express receipt. They were the same. -- Lissa M. Lee ______________________________________________ Lissa is a storyteller from South Louisiana. This is true story, though the names have been changed. --- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' ...You know what is so interesting about this story? Well, you may have guessed it, but I will tell you encase you might of missed it. The fact that God spoke to this man about giving. Had he not known God's will toward giving, God could not of nudged him into it. You cannot be made to feel motivated to do something if you had no prior information that that was the right thing to do. He obviously knew God's will about giving to help others. How did he know this so he could have that little nagging angel to convince him to do the right thing to bless not only this woman but himself? He must of learned it. We need to study God's Word so we know the Will of God so we can be blessed more then abundantly. God will take care of our needs, but for the extra blessings in life, it is good to know God's will for us. Always remember - THE WORD OF GOD IS THE WILL OF GOD. Here is an excerpt from the teaching Giving Equals Receiving: I have found that nothing drives the point home like an actual real-life example or experience when teaching God's Word. Pertaining to this great principle, I have so many experiences pertaining to this particular type of situation, that I will only generalize for the sake of effectiveness and a sensible length for this teaching. Since I finally decided not only to learn this principle, but to APPLY IT, every time I come across a situation where I am tempted to do something wrong, I remember what Colossians 3: 25 says and I STOP! I stop thinking about it and I do not carry out the action. The Word of God is very, very powerful and you need to memorize Scriptures to help you along. This is true in case you are out there somewhere in the world and you do not have your Bible with you. It is the enemy, the present god of this world, who will go out of his way to agitate you or to tempt you to do wrong to others. That way, he's got you. He gets you out of fellowship and then you are in his ball field and he has his way with you. It's really so simple to simply apply God's Word AND THAT IS WHAT DEFEATS THE ADVERSARY! Mostly everyone knows right from wrong but God gives us a choice -- He gives us FREE WILL. By our own free will, we choose to do good or to do evil. What does it mean to do good? The Word of God tells us, in every category of life, how we are to act and to conduct ourselves. It is our perfect blueprint for living. ' ' >Profound Things As someone who has essentially made a living as a professional writer, profound is not a word I would use lightly. However, that's the word I keep coming back to when I reflect on my small part in what some folks in Kentucky and five other states are calling "The Great Ice Storm of 2009." Over a day and a half we were hit by about an inch of ice, mainly in the form of freezing rain. We added up to an inch of sleet and a couple of inches of snow over the next day or two. In the early days of the storm I was assigned to work as Public Information Officer with the Region One Emergency Operations Center. There is nothing more profound that being in room where emergency managers are trying to provide food to people who need food, water to people who need water, and shelter to people who need shelter. I developed a great admiration for the work of our emergency management staff and our National Guard people. I came to consider serving with them and watching them go about their work a high honor that was all at once maddening, rewarding, exhausting, exhilarating, encouraging, and touching. Their hard work responding to downed power lines, blocked roads, and other issues generated some humorous moments. We sent 3,000 "micro-wavable" macaroni and cheese meals to a town where the nearest electricity was 50 miles away. We later found that the fine print on the packaging indicated the meals could be heated by dropping them into boiling water. The National Guard people couldn't understand the problem, insisting that (if you were hungry enough) they were pretty tasty right out of the package cold. I had access to a Satellite Phone and was able to call my son in New York to tell him we were OK, but I couldn't call my daughter and her family who were maybe 15 miles always. My son eventually contacted them and was able to relay messages and provide assurance that everyone was fine. They guy next to me in the EOC was ordering bottled water by the tractor-trailer truckload for distribution to 19 counties. At one point I joked that it was odd we didn't have a single bottle of water in the building. He agreed that was pretty amusing. When I returned from a lunch break the next day there were three cases of bottled water next to my chair. We had a report that we had what was possibly a flu outbreak at a shelter housing about 500 people. The initial report was not good. Our medical staff rushed down there to find it was 3 guys and a girl having meth withdrawals. The police carted them off to jail. In the final hours before the storm hit, a couple of the emergency management people realized we'd need some food for the initial hours of what could be a long power outage. They ran across the street to find shelves at the nearby Wal Mart pretty much emptied. About the only thing left in the chip section were two bags of lime flavored nacho chips, so they picked them up. Nobody seemed to want to try them until about the third day when we ran out of Fritos I brought for everyone to snack on. Finally, the lime nachos were opened and passed around. They were something akin to having a whole lime explode in your mouth. They were amazingly tasty and a pretty good substitute for a cup of military coffee. That evening, the National Guard got their kitchen up and running, so we had pretty good food after that. * . * . _\/ \/_ . \ \ / / . . .. .. -==>: X :<==- _\/ \/_ '\ /' / _/ \_ \ _\/\/_ \\// ' /\ /\ ' _\_\_\/\/_/_/_ _.__\\\///__._ * ' * / /_/\/\_\ \ ' ///\\\ ' _/\/\_ //\\ /\ /\ ./ \. ' ' Early reports indicated that our hometown was among the hardest hit areas and would be without power for four to six weeks. We were fortunate to have gas logs in our fireplace, so at least we had heat. We camp a lot, so we essentially set up camp in the living room. Beth is a pretty solid gal, but when she called me in tears after a week without electricity I realized it was time to get a generator. We had managed to borrow one for a few hours a couple of times during the first week to recharge our freezer, but she was tired of being in the dark. She also surprised me by telling me it had been a week since I'd been home. I was so absorbed in my work in the EOC it did not occur to me that I had only seen her for a few minutes at lunch one day when I ran home to take a shower and eat lunch. During the power outage our only source of news was an AM radio station in Paducah. Most of the others were off the air. Our only problem from an information standpoint was people calling in to talk about all the rumors that were floating around about what FEMA would do for everyone. Most were simply not true. When Beth was shopping for a generator she stopped and talked to a guy selling them along the roadside. He told her she should buy the biggest one she could get because FEMA would reimburse her for the cost. She correctly called me and I told her that wasn't so. We waited a day or two until Lowe's restocked and bought one there. In the middle of all the mess, our local Scout Troop 30 went out delivering FEMA meals to families. They stopped at the home of an older couple to drop some food. When the woman came to the door she seemed disoriented. Our Scouts realized the couple had their generator close to the door and carbon monoxide was getting into the house. Our guys correctly called an Ambulance to check them out and probably saved their lives. Here in Western Kentucky, we're still dealing with the aftermath of millions of downed trees and limbs across 93 of Kentucky's 120 counties. Almost two months after the fact, our Kentucky highway crews and debris removal contractors in the 23 counties in my area of responsibility have just topped 3 million cubic yards of material collected. To provide perspective, that's more than 1.3 million pickup truck loads or almost 47,000 tractor-trailer truckloads of material. That's just what we're picking up along highways. * . * . _\/ \/_ . \ \ / / . . .. .. -==>: X :<==- _\/ \/_ '\ /' / _/ \_ \ _\/\/_ \\// ' /\ /\ ' _\_\_\/\/_/_/_ _.__\\\///__._ * ' * / /_/\/\_\ \ ' ///\\\ ' _/\/\_ //\\ /\ /\ ./ \. ' ' In some cases the inch or more of ice that fell January 26 and 27 put whole trees on the ground, destroying what took a hundred years or more to grow. A few nights ago Beth and I took my Mom to the top of Wilson Hill, which overlooks our small town of 5,000. With so many trees and limbs gone, the lights of Marion spread out below looked like a much larger city. The view rivaled the lights of Los Angeles when we were there back in September. We expect it to take until around Memorial Day to clear debris off our highway right of way. I'm taking my car to a body shop this week to get the ice damage fixed. I ran through the top of a downed tree trying to avoid a group of kids playing in the street. I was only going about 25 mph when I ran through a treetop hanging out in the road. Total cost, $2,000. At my age, it's pretty rare to be a part of something that can impact the lives of thousands of people. While my public information efforts during the storm were pretty minor, it was such a blessing to be among people who were willing to put their lives on hold to help others. I rank it up there in the top ten experiences of my life. My nephew noted that sometimes God prepares us to be in the right place at the right time to help others. I think that the Great Ice Storm of 2009 may have been one of those occasions for me. Mazzella After a long, cold, and rough Winter I am patiently counting the days now until Spring arrives here in the mountains of my home. It will be so glorious to see the rebirth of the world once again. Soon the first dandelion will cautiously poke its head through the ground to delight in the newly warm air. Soon the Apple, Dogwood, and Cherry trees will awaken and fill their limbs with brilliant and fragrant blossoms. Soon the mountains will turn a thousand shades of green as the leaves appear and every glance at them will bring a smile to my face. Soon the meadows will be full of fresh, new grass that will an inviting carpet for any barefoot child to walk on. Soon the skies will be full of returning birds and their Heavenly songs will make my heart sing as well. Soon the gentle breezes will carry the dance of the butterflies as they float happily from flower to flower. Soon the beautiful sounds of talking neighbors, laughing teenagers, and playing children will fill the air as everyone ventures out to enjoy the mild temperatures and golden sunshine. When those days get here I will embrace them with all of my heart, soul, and mind. I will look to the Heavens as well and thank God for once again bringing new life to this world. Most of all, though, I will seek out the Springtime within myself and continue to share it with everyone I meet. You see, God blesses the world with Spring once a year but blesses us with Spring everyday of our lives. Each time we pray, share our love, spread our joy, stop to help another, or do a single act of kindness it is once again Springtime in our souls. Embrace the Springtime in within you then no matter what the season. Live from the eternal Spring of life, goodness, and love that God gives you and help Him renew this world each and everyday. Spring is the season of new life. Every Sunday after church, Horace and his wife, Hilda Mae, went on a leisurely, scenic drive through the hills and valleys. They loved watching the deer, squirrels, rabbits, and other members of God's handiwork. Every Sunday, Horace and Hilda were involved in a minor traffic mishap. News of Horace's weekly mishaps were soon reported in the news section of his hometown newspaper, which began printing details of his accidents. Horace was also cited to appear in front of the local judge who would determine whether he would be allowed to continue to drive. The day before Horace was scheduled to appear in court, he and Hilda Mae were involved in their weekly traffic accident. The driver in the vehicle ahead of Horace and Hilda Mae made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road. Horace lost control of his vehicle, which left the road and landed in the center of a small pond. The following day, Horace appeared before Judge Harrie Hankee to answer the charges related to all of his accidents. "How do you plead to all of these charges?," asked the judge. "I plead innocent, Your Honor," replied Horace. "I didn't do any of these things on purpose. They were all accidents." The Judge called Hilda Mae to the witness stand to testify. "Horace really is a good driver, Your Honor," she said. "Like he says, he didn't do anything wrong on purpose. They were all accidents." Judge Harrie had a reputation of being both fair and firm. And he was a judge who insisted that all aspects of a case be heard. "Does anyone else here have any information related to this case?," Judge Harrie asked. "If it please the Court, I would like to speak, Your Honor," said a distinguished-looking gentleman, who sported a handlebar mustache. Upon being given permission by the judge, Michael the Angel approached the bench. "Who are you?," inquired the Judge. "I am Michael the Angel," said the visitor from heaven. "My assignment is to guard Horace and Hilda Mae and see that they are not injured in any of these accidents." "You have drawn quite an assignment," said the Judge. "How can I make your job a bit easier?" "Your honor, I am here to ask that you suspend Horace's driver's license for two Sundays," Michael said. "Why are you making this request?," asked the Judge. "Your Honor, after working on this assignment for a year, I need a two-week vacation!," grinned Michael. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment Regis Motoneige http://www.buffaloschips.com/xdert.htm Regis Sautedu Bateau http://www.buffaloschips.com/grfd.htm Reining http://www.buffaloschips.com/hgdry.htm Remember http://www.buffaloschips.com/hgft8.htm Re Open 911 http://www.buffaloschips.com/6t6yu.htm Home Alone http://www.buffaloschips.com/gkjjkk.htm Home Security http://www.buffaloschips.com/gfdrdft.htm Hoppalas Turnen http://www.buffaloschips.com/gcfdrde.htm Not His Day http://www.buffaloschips.com/uyft.htm Ollie http://www.buffaloschips.com/jhg.htm Parrot Plays Golf http://www.buffaloschips.com/hgrf.htm Pepsi Please http://www.buffaloschips.com/uyr.htm Pilobolus http://www.buffaloschips.com/fer.htm Ponies http://www.buffaloschips.com/tred.htm Pool Chick http://www.buffaloschips.com/iuygr.htm Printer http://www.buffaloschips.com/hgft.htm Regis Bowling http://www.buffaloschips.com/hfgd.htm Regis Lemarin http://www.buffaloschips.com/hgfty.htm Chalk Art 3 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/chalkart3.html Amazing Air Cars http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/aircars.html VOLKNER MOBIL RV! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/rv.html Dance Page http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/sdp.html Hummingbirds http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/humming.html Terrorist Training Camps in the US http://tinyurl.com/d55kwh A Pittance of time... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYlrrAWCTRg Shotgun rules http://www.shotgunrules.com/ Rose Bowl Flea Market http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/rose-bowl-flea-market/ Subscribe send a blank email to: the-inspired-buffalo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com =========================================================== >-->HOMEFIRES I gaze upon an unmade bed And see a tousled curly head With sparkling eyes and tiny hands That hold a mountain of demands And then I look around to see Ten messes staring back at me. This home will shield us from the storm As I keep the homefire's embers warm. ~ Lisa ~ ======================================================== >-->From Our Friend Viv :) |V| .::| |::. ::__| |__:: >____ ____< :: | | :: '::| |::' | | | | jgs |A| You are in your car driving home. So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up. As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one. The roadside has become a parking lot. Car doors are open and people are staring at the sky. Shoppers are racing out of the grocery store. The Little League baseball game across the street has come to a halt. Players and parents are searching the clouds. And what they see, and what you see, has never before been seen. As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the atmosphere part. A brilliant light spills onto the earth. There are no shadows. None. From every hue ever seen and a million more never seen. Riding on the flow is an endless fleet of angels. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time, until they occupy every square inch of the sky. North. South. East. West. Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison, and over the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and seraphim chanting, Holy, holy, holy. The final flank of angels is followed by twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls who join the angels in worship. Presently the movement stops and the trumpets are silent, leaving only the triumphant triplet: Holy, holy, holy. Between each word is a pause. With each word, a profound reverence. You hear your voice join in the chorus. You don't know why you say the words, but you know you must. Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn, you turn, the entire world turns and there He is. Jesus Christ. Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of Christ the King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing cloud. He opens his mouth, and you are surrounded by his declaration: I am the Alpha and the Omega. The angels bow their heads. The elders remove their crowns. And before you is a Figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters. Forget stock markets and school reports. Sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy.. All that mattered, matters no more.... for Christ has come. This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, he saw me, and he asked: My child, what is your greatest wish for today? I responded: 'Lord please; take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much'. The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings but not its end. ANGELS EXIST, but sometimes, since they don't all have wings we call them FRIENDS, SUCH AS YOU. --- ...Sweet! As I’m reading through the New Testament, God is opening my mind to the wonders of His Word. I know I’ve read this passage many times before but some about this time really impressed me: Hebrews 11 (NKJ) 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. I really enjoy this passage because it describes a spiritual truth in very clear terms. Faith is not seen. It is an understanding we gain from the Word of God when we read it and believe. That, by itself, is very clear. The best part, however, occurs later in the chapter. You see, faith is not just the dry boring knowledge of a fact you can throw out at a party to impress your friends. It’s the understanding of something so significant that it causes you to do things because you know in your heart it’s the right thing to do. All of the examples of faith in this 11th chapter, are people who, empowered by their faith, did something significant for God. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, 5 By faith Enoch was taken away … before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God 6 By faith Noah…prepared an ark for the saving of his household, 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. 11 By faith Sarah … she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones. 24 By faith Moses, …refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. 31 By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace. I’m sure you guys get the point. By FAITH we are to do something for God. We don’t do it because of the head knowledge that we should. We do it because we’ve been given the understanding that doing so will bring glory to God. What are you doing with your faith today? Are you allowing it to manifest the glory of God? You can pray until you are blue in the face, but unless you act on what you are praying about, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. As the Scripture says, believing without action is dead or worthless, being by itself. Again, God reiterates: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith [believing] without works [action] is dead also. - James 2: 26 When God says something twice, He establishes that fact. Hebrews 11:1-3 1 Now faith is firm confidence in things hoped for, a conviction regarding things not seen. 2 For due to it the men of old were commended. 3 By faith we understand that the ages have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which appear.
