>HOW DID WE SURVIVE THE 50s?
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank
while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing,
tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby
cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets
and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks
we took hitchhiking.
As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats,
booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special
treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We
shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one
actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid
made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS
OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we
were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us
all day. And we were OK.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then
ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running
into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games
at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no
surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no
Internet or chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found
them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were
no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from
dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with
sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we
did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door
or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those
who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard
of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers,
problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an
explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success
and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
We had the good fortune to grow up as kids in America, before the
government regulated so much of our lives "for our own good."
Give thanks, for such an age will never occur again.

>Tips - Things you didn't know about weight loss
Most people generally follow the conventional norm of dieting when it
comes to losing weight. They will skip meals, keep fasts, consume
low-fat products and take stairs instead of lifts. But, this type of
calorie counting will only make them lose their mind, and not weight.
Even the nutritionists agree that fasting and skipping meals is not a
healthy way to lose weight. Such practices tend to make people look
weaker and frail.
But, there are some amazing ways of weight loss, which they do not
pay much heed to. So, take a look at these simple tricks which will
help in shedding kilos in a healthier manner.
Fluids:
Limit your drinks to water only. While you are trying to slim down,
reduce your intake of tea, juice and coffee. If you are desperately
craving for juice, then try eating a fruit instead of drinking a
packaged one. This way, you get more nutrition without the excess
sugar found in the packaged juice.
Also, limit your coffee consumption to one cup a day, and tea to two
cups. Avoid adding sugar to them. You can also opt for healthier
options like green tea and decaffeinated coffee.
Go Chinese!
Chinese food is one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. From
that, we do not mean the ‘Indian-ised’ and greasy version of the
food. But the original Chinese dishes, which include boiled and
crunchy vegetables, broiled meat and steamed rice. Traditionally,
Chinese food is either baked or stir-fried. It consists of a huge
variety of vegetables and healthy soups. Also, it involves a lot of
seafood and soybeans, with minimal amount of sugar. So, having it
can really help you to shed your excess weight. And, if you are not
that comfortable with eating Chinese food, then there is still
another Chinese trend you can try out. Try eating with chopsticks.
This will help you to eat slowly. So, your body will have time to
respond to your stomach’s cues saying that it is full, thus preventing
you from consuming empty calories.
Fat is Good!
You may find the above sentence to be an oxymoron, but it is true.
Fat is good for you! It is the grease that helps your metabolic
system to run smoothly, and helps you to lose weight faster. What
most people do not know is that fats are both good and bad as well.
Fish, flax seeds and nuts are a source of good fats, while re-used
cooking oil is the most dreadful form of bad fats. So, it is best to
incorporate more of good fats in your diet.
Spice it up
Adding some spice to your bland food not only enhances the flavor,
but also helps you to lose oodles of weight. Add some extra spices
to your food to cut down on your salt intake; salt is one of the
biggest culprits of weight gain. Spices like turmeric, cinnamon,
chillies and garlic are just a few healthy' examples. Turmeric helps
the body to metabolise fats by decreasing the fat storage in liver
cells, while cinnamon manages the blood sugar levels. Chilies, most
importantly, have an ingredient called Capsaicin, which significantly
improves fat burning process.
Skip a rope
Skipping with a rope works on your cellulite. This helps you to tone
your arms and legs. It can also help you to lose up to 450 calories
in around 30 minutes. Moreover, this exercise improves blood flow,
thereby keeping your heart healthy.
Join Aerobics
Well, this is definitely a fun exercise to work on your entire muscle
mass. Unlike other exercises, this activity focuses on every body part,
thereby giving you a lean frame. During a one-hour session of aerobics,
you can burn at least 400 calories.
So, now that we have revealed these weight loss secrets for you, follow
these tips and shed that flab in a much effective manner!

...Great tips! Thanks Linda!

>CAST ME NOT AWAY
Cast me not away for I have much to give,
A loving heart & a will to live.
Cast me not away for I have a dream,
of grace so true & smiles of gleem.
Cast me not away for i give of myself,
putting away problems upon the shelf.
Cast me not away for I need a friend,
A friend who'll stick by me to the end.
For friendship so true I can not explain.
The pain of sorrow, the joy of gain.
For you are a treasure worth more than gold.
A treasure for many they can not hold.
Cast me not away for you have a right,
be blessed for you, for you have the night.
Cast me not away for you can see,

>LAUGH
By: Joseph J. Mazzella
I find myself laughing a lot more these days. It isn't a mean
laughter that hurts others' feelings, either. It is rather a
laughter of wonderful delight that makes my heart feel light, my
body feel great, and my soul feel pure joy. It is a laughter that
comes when things go right and when things go wrong. It is a
laughter that finds humor and bliss in all the ups and downs of
life. It is a laughter that comes from loving God, loving life,
loving myself, and loving others.
I think that laughter often goes hand in hand with both love
and joy. When we choose love and when we choose joy, we also choose
laughter. This is because when we love God, ourselves, and others we
can't help but feel joyous. And when we feel joyous we can't help
but share it with the world through wondrous and delightful
laughter. I think that God must often laugh in delight too as He
watches over us with loving eyes and a joyous smile
Don't be afraid to laugh. Don't hold it back. Let it out. Let
it fill your heart, soul, mind, and voice. Let it brighten your day.
Let it travel from you to all those around you and fill the air with
its sweet, joyous music. William Blake once wrote "The Angel that
presided at my birth said: `Little creature, formed of joy and
mirth, Go, love without the help of anything on earth.'"
Let's all make the angels that watch over us and the God who
made us smile with delight at our lives then. Let's all choose to
love each other, share joy with each other, and laugh together.
Let's all laugh all through the day, at every chance we get, and at
everything that brings humor and delight into our lives. Let's laugh
at the puppy chasing her tail, at the baby giggling at our funny
faces, and at the countless silly things we say and do. Let's laugh
at the problems life gives us and the good times life brings us.
Let's always live our lives with laughter, love, and delight.

>SOLD IT FOR SCRAP
I was watching television today and saw the Ford Taurus commercial.
It was about a young boy that is involved in a car accident and
calls home to tell his parents he was sorry about the damage to the
car. The father told the boy not to worry about the car, as long as
the boy was okay.
That commercial reminded me of my brother Eli.
Eli was a drug addict back in 1980, and because he used the drugs in
front of my kids (he wasn't even supposed to have them in the house)
I kicked him out and did not speak to him for 10 years.
In 1990, he ended up in jail for most of the year. When he got out,
he was clean and drug-free and returned to Georgia. I was leery of
him coming back, especially around my children, but he was family
and my mom asked me to at least be civil towards him. So I was.
Surprisingly, I introduced him to the missionaries from my church
and, within two weeks, he became a member of my church. From that
point on, he was the brother I remembered from my teen years. He
was honest, hard- working, and always thought about others.
Well, my dad owned a Gold Wing motorcycle that he cherished. One
day, my brother needed a way to work and begged my dad to let him
use the Gold Wing. Reluctantly, my dad agreed. But he added the
phrase: If you damage my motorcycle, you better not come back!
Eli never came back...
You see, on his way home from work that night, my brother was hit
and killed by a motorist. The day after my brother died, my dad and
I went to pick up the motorcycle from the police impound lot. We
couldn't believe our eyes. The motorcycle had received only a few
minor scrapes. That was when my dad said something that made me
realize just how much he loved his children (he never said the
words, I love you.) He said, "I would rather have my son back than
this motorcycle."
My dad sold that motorcycle for scrap two days after the funeral.
He has not been on a motorcycle since.
That's why I am so touched by the Ford Taurus commercial. That's
also why I have to tell everyone to forgive and forget. I didn't
speak to my brother for ten years, and then I was only allowed one
year to make up for all the years I had missed. He died exactly one
year after joining my church.
I never told him I forgive him. I hope he knows that now.

The news is demented with all their hate for Trump!
This shines a light on how unprofessional they have become
with lies and false reporting to try and smear our President!
They did something like 90-95% negative news on his last
year yet he has proven to be keeping his promises to those
who voted for him and has got this economy roaring unlike
Obama who couldn't even kick start it with all his trillions
of tax payer dollars he threw at for shovel ready jobs and
stimulus programs! They were just part of his lies to us the
American people.
Even Left leaning Politifact called him out:

What the left news media aren't reporting - With President Trump:
USA Today reports that the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 323
points and closed above 26,000 for the first time in its 121-year
history. “The Dow, which rallied 25.1% last year, has continued its
surge at the start of 2018 amid rising optimism that tax cuts will
lift corporate earnings and the economy,” Adam Shell writes.

Apple
(Cupertino, California) -- $2,500 employee bonuses in the form of
restricted stock units; $30 billion in additional capital expenditures
over five years; 20,000 new employees will be hired; increased support
of coding education and science, technology, engineering, arts, and
math; increased support for U.S. manufacturing:
Bonuses:
Apple Inc. told employees Wednesday that it’s issuing a bonus of $2,500
worth of restricted stock units, following the introduction of the new
U.S. tax law, according to people familiar with the matter.
The iPhone maker will begin issuing stock grants to most employees
worldwide in the coming months, said the people, who asked not to be
identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. The move
comes on the same day Apple said it would bring back most of its cash
from overseas and spend $30 billion in the U.S. over the next five
years, funding an additional technical support campus, data centers and
20,000 new employees.
Apple confirmed the bonuses in response to a Bloomberg inquiry
Wednesday. – Jan. 17, 2018 Bloomberg News article excerpt
Capital expenditures, etc:
Apple expects to invest over $30 billion in capital expenditures in the
US over the next five years and create over 20,000 new jobs through
hiring at existing campuses and opening a new one.
Building on the initial success of the Advanced Manufacturing Fund
announced last spring, Apple is increasing the size of the fund from $1
billion to $5 billion. The fund was established to support innovation
among American manufacturers and help others establish a presence in the
US. It is already backing projects with leading manufacturers in
Kentucky and rural Texas.
Apple works with over 9,000 American suppliers — large and small
businesses in all 50 states — and each of Apple’s core products relies
on parts or materials made in the US or provided by US-based suppliers.
Apple, which has a 40-year history in education, also plans to
accelerate its efforts across the US in support of coding education as
well as programs focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and
Math (STEAM). – Jan. 17, 2018 Apple press release excerpts

>Consider It Yours Story Editor:
by Don Belo Joyce Schowalter
Ontario, Canada
It was an extremely cold winter day in Ontario, Canada, in February
1989. I had just bought a new car, however due to snow and icy
conditions I refused to drive it on this day. I'd used public
transportation for a date with a gal I'd been seeing a few months.
We had just finished watching a movie, "Remains of the Day" starring
Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. After leaving the theatre, the
first open eatery we came across was a burger joint. We entered and
ordered coffee and warm apple pie.
We sat down and across from us, already seated, was a homeless man
with all of his belongings close to him, huddling tight to his heavy
jacket. He was in his late 50s or early 60s, with the obvious signs
of spending years sleeping and living on the streets adding years to
his appearance. His face was the colour towards the extreme part of
red, bordering on purple.
He obviously had come inside to warm up. He ignored the other
patrons, sitting silently cutting an apple into thin slices with a
plastic knife onto a tray in front of him. Another man entered the
restaurant, obviously in a similar predicament in life to the man
before us, and also seeking shelter from the -20C outside.
Both men wore tattered overcoats that were obviously not purchased
by them due to being over-sized for their frames. They were both
smokers as their hands had that unhealthy leathery look about them,
with yellow stains at the fingertips.
The gentleman seated in front of us nodded in recognition to the man
who had just entered, who returned the gesture, they clearly knew
each other. The first man didn't say a word, yet with a calm wave of
his hand offered his sliced apple to his friend.
They shared the apple, however not together; the man who was the
recipient took a few slices from the tray and seated himself a few
tables away, while the man who offered the apple remained seated
near us.
My girlfriend looked at me and with tears in her eyes said, "That is
beautiful."
I can't explain the feelings of emotion that this evoked in me at
the time -- and still does to this day, 22 years later. My
girlfriend of that time is my wife now, and this story is still
something my wife or I bring up from time to time.
I've told this true story to many people over the years. Often,
though I see they're touched by it, I don't think they truly
appreciate that, in a calm, wordless way, this older homeless soul
showed us what a hero really is.
The wave of his hand radiated the regal dignity of a king, because
it demonstrated the true meaning of sacrifice for another. His
gesture said, "I have little or next to nothing, but if what I have
benefits you in any way, consider it yours."

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old
Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa,
and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and
they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered
to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would
be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure as they
felt that Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's f
amily surrounded him.
Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that
I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few
minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any
difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud
about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him.
What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more
comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?"
The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that,
so they don't have to stay as long."
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them;
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride;
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be
pure Ecstasy;
Take naps;
Stretch before rising;
Run, romp, and play daily;
Thrive on attention and let people touch you;
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do;
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass;
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree;
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body;
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk;
Be loyal;
Never pretend to be something you're not;
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it;
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and
nuzzle them gently;
There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama
and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who
make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good, so, love the
people who treat you right. Think good thoughts for the ones who
don't ~ life is too short to be anything but happy.
Falling down is part of LIFE...
Getting back up is LIVING...
DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT GROWING OLD…
FEW PEOPLE GET THE PRIVILEGE.

>A Minute with God
My name is God. You hardly have time for me. I love you and will
always bless you. I am always with you. I need you to spend 30
secs. of your time with Me today.
Don't pray, just praise. Today I want this message to go across
the world. Will you help?
Why are prayers getting smaller, but bars and clubs are expanding?
Why is it so easy to worship a celebrity, but very difficult to
engage with God?
Think about it, are you going to forward this or are you going to
ignore it because you think you will get laughed at?
When one door closes, God opens two. If God has opened doors for
you, send this message to everyone...
Just Remember...
God has no BLACKBERRY but he's my favorite contact.
God is not on FACEBOOK but he is my best friend.
God is not on TWITTER but I still follow Him, and even
without the INTERNET I am always connected to him.
God is not on Gmail but he's always online.
Forward if God's been good to you!
God has been very good to me,
He has given me a wonderful family,
great friends and so much more!
---
...Amen! Thanks Geniann!
