No, I'm not talking about the latest version of the USA Basketball Dream Team and their upcoming quest for Olympic gold. Sure, I wish them well. I'll be watching, no doubt. But I'm talking about the five men who are, or who will one day be, the fathers of my grandchildren -- my two sons, my two sons-in-law and a young man who, unless I miss my guess, appears destined to be my future son-in-law. These are five terrific young men, and I love each one of them for the goodness of their souls. They all deserve my full and undivided attention -- especially today. But today is a big day for all of them simultaneously, and so my thoughts and prayers and positive thoughts are being sent out in five different directions. And I've got to tell you, I'm feeling fragmented. This is spiritual and metaphysical multi-tasking of the first order. And since I have a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time, this is a real stretch for me. On the one hand, I'm wanting to focus on Joe Jr., who today stands at the furthest edge of his life-long dream of one day being a lawyer. Fresh out of law school, today he is taking his state's bar exam. If he passes, the dream is fulfilled and he is a full-fledged lawyer. If not... well, he still has that degree. But he isn't a lawyer. Not really. Not yet. On the other hand, I'm thinking of Jon, my youngest child, who at this very moment may be standing in front of an "American Idol" producer, singing his 16-year-old heart out. It will be the biggest 10 seconds of his life so far, and I can only support him in this dream from here, with my hopes and prayers. On the other hand, my son-in-law Adam is also awaiting his turn in front of the "American Idol" producers. Adam is a little further along in his aesthetic journey than Jon is, and a shot on this show could help propel him toward is ultimate dream: Broadway. So I can't help but pull for him, and hope the producers see all of the talent and potential that I see in this great young man. On the other hand, every day is a big day for my son-in-law Brock, who is stationed with his Army unit in Baghdad. Brock is a soldier with the soul of a poet, and he has a duffle bag full of dreams for his future, all of which are on hold until he completes this, his third tour of duty in Iraq. For today he shares a dream with every soldier from every nation on every front line of armed conflict. It's a simple dream: survival. May it be his. Especially today. And on the other hand, I'm also concerned about Hudson, who is doing volunteer service for his church in Russia. Hudson has already faced numerous threats and challenges from those who don't think well of Americans in Russia, and evidently things are getting worse. Hudson is someone else's son, but he's dear to my daughter, Beth, and therefore dear to me. And I want him to be well and safe -- today and always. Let's see... that's one hand and four "other hands." Way more than I can "handle," if you'll pardon the expression. So I offer my positive thoughts and encouragement, and commend them all to God, and trust that He will look after them wherever they are. Because I can't. It's a helpless feeling, isn't it? Whether you're a parent or a sibling or a sweetheart or a friend, it's hard to know that people who are dear to you are facing difficult or important moments in their lives, and there isn't anything you can do to help them. And so we offer encouragement and we send out our positive thoughts, in hopes that it makes a difference. And we leave the rest to God. Who, it turns out, sort of specializes in dream fulfillment. -- Joseph Walker ____________________________________________ Joe is from Utah and is a Heartwarmer Gem. ========================================================== >-->From Our Friend Bunni :) .-"-. / _ \ | / \ | _|_|_|_|_ "--...-". . I have always tried to fit in, to be one of the crowd. At school I was everybody's friend. I fit in with the Preps and the Goths and every other stereotype you can imagine. It seemed to me that everybody else had something I wanted. No matter what I did, I couldn't find it. I have gone to church just about my whole life. I sang the songs and talked the talk, but I never really bought into it. I always thought that since other people in my family believed, I didn't have to--I was covered. I loved going to church and hanging out with my friends on Sundays, but on Monday I was the girl who always fit in. About God I always thought, How I am I supposed to love a person I don't know? Like if someone said to you, "I know a guy, and he's madly in love with you. Don't you love him, too?" If you had any common sense, you'd want to know who the person was--at least I did. People always say, "I found Jesus." That's not how it was for me. I didn't find anything, no matter how hard I looked. The bottom line is that Jesus came looking for me. Don't get me wrong--it wasn't like, "Oh, I know Jesus now," and everything was all hearts and flowers. I wish it worked that way. But about a year and half ago, I started to run after God for real. Some of my friends from church talked me into going to a conference with them, and one of the speakers talked about how if you fit in perfectly with the world, you have a problem. I didn't think of it as a problem. I just thought the speaker didn't have any friends in high school and was still bitter about it. The other speakers were all about change- the-world-this and change-the-world-that. I was doing just fine in my little corner of the world not changing anything. They weren't hitting me like a lightning bolt: boom, change the world for Jesus. Then over the weekend I was praying one of my packaged prayers: you know, Bless Mom, bless Dad, thanks for everything I own, it would be nice to have world peace while you're at it." But during my prayer, the speaker's voice kept playing in my head. It hit me that out of all the people I knew, maybe two knew I was a Christian. I'm always trying to fit in--not make waves, I thought. Exactly what kind of impact am I making? I knew if I were to speak up, people would look at me like I'd escaped from a place with padded walls--but if I didn't, then one day I'd have to try to explain to God that I was too embarrassed to let people know that I loved him. I didn't want to have to imagine that. So I switched off of my "bless everyone" prayer and began to talk to God for real. I asked for boldness and courage every night, but in the morning I didn't wake up feeling like Wonder Woman. Then I remembered how my older sister once told me that courage only comes after you face what you fear. You have to challenge your fears in order to defeat them. I decided to speak up about my faith, although I knew that it wouldn't be easy for me. I was really scared of what people would think. Remember, I had never been an individual; I had always tried to blend in. It was a huge stretch for me. It is never easy being the only one standing for what you believe. I discovered that my sister was right. After I told one person what I believed, telling one more wasn't difficult. Believe it or not, other people saw that I was making a stand for Jesus, and they stood up right next to me. For the first time in my life, I didn't try to fit in with anyone. In the process, I lost some of my friends because of my honesty. But faithful to the end, God soon sent good, strong Christian friends-- people I didn't know well and really didn't want to know at first, I'll admit. Now that they are my friends, I see how judgmental and wrong I was. I would have missed so much not really knowing them. Things are not easy; I don't think they ever will be. There are times when I know I am supposed to witness, but I back out. I kick myself for it, but I know that God forgives me every time. He's working with me. I no longer fit in with every group, but how can you be passionately in love with Jesus and still play the field? You can't. If it comes down to a choice between "be welcomed on this earth" or "be welcomed in heaven," I will choose heaven any day. -- Lauren Alyson Schara --- ...Good story Bunni! They mate for life, they build nests that will last a lifetime, they ride the storm instead of hiding from the storm. There's really only one enemy that is a serious danger to the eagle - a snake. That snake will attempt to climb wherever the eagle nest is and attack the inhabitants - especially the little eaglets. But pity the poor snake that gets caught by Mama or Papa Eagle. They will show the serpent no mercy. They may pick it up with their beak and violently shake it to death. Or, better yet, they will pick it up in their talons, take off high into the air, and drop that snake to its death on the rocks below. They are not about to let that serpent have what he came for. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Shaking the Snake that Stalks You." It's no wonder the Bible encourages us to take note of "the way of an eagle" (Proverbs 30:19). The eagle shows the serpent no mercy and makes that serpent sorry he ever attacked you. Like that eagle, we have a serpent that's trying to strike out at us. The devil's first appearance to humans came in the form of a snake in the Garden of Eden. In the last book of the Bible God still calls him "that ancient serpent called the devil" (Revelation 11:9). You may or not believe in the devil, but either way he's actively trying to ruin your life. In fact, he likes it better when you don't believe in him. You won't fight an enemy you don't even know is there. But those who anchor their life to the Word of God have no excuse for being blind to what this evil prince is up to. 1 Peter 5:8 describes him as "a roaring lion" who "prowls around ... looking for someone to devour." Then it tells us what to do with him: "Resist him!" Unfortunately, we're not always as smart as those eagles. If that old serpent pushes the right buttons - the same old buttons he's always pushed to bring you down - we actually go along with him! So much of the hurt, and the heartache, and shame of your life and mine is because we've given into his subtle promptings and to his sinful opportunities. But if you belong to Jesus Christ, you belong to the One the Bible says came "to destroy the devil's work" (1 John 3:8). So show him no mercy when he comes crawling toward you; when he comes crawling toward your nest. In the words of Ephesians 6:13, "Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Remember, Satan has no power over you except what you let him have. And every temptation the devil brings into your life is to do one of three things. Jesus said that "thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy" (John 10:10). Why in the world would you go along with that? The next time the serpent comes your way, the Bible says, "Resist him." "I know who this is. I'm not falling for this again!" That's how you stand up to him. You claim the victory Jesus Christ won over him when He died on the cross. Take your stand! Go to your Savior and unleash Jesus on that serpent. No compromise. No giving in. No accommodation. Like the eagle, make that old serpent sorry he ever got close to your nest! ---- Copyright (c) 2005, Ron Hutchcraft. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing. If nearby and listening, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her halter is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her. As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray. When she returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, she stops occasionally and looks back, making sure her friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell. Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see. Good friends are like this ......... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Glen tried to scoop the creature up, but it stung him and fell back into the tide. Glen tried again and was stung again. "Dad, leave him alone!" Terry cried. "He's not worth saving." But Glen tried one more time. This time he was successful and threw it onto the sand. Terry said, "Why waste time on an ornery critter who's too stupid to know it's being helped?" "Son, the scorpion stings by instinct," Glen answered. "It's its nature. I chose to help it because that's my nature." Glen was teaching his son a profound moral lesson about being human. Like other species, we're born with an instinct for survival and a disposition toward selfishness. Yet, blessed by a sense of compassion and the power to reason, we also have an instinct to think and act beyond our self-interest. Human nature is complex. It's as much in our nature to be kind, loving, and generous as it is to be cruel, selfish, and dishonest. We can nurture or ignore our nobler instincts. Some people act like scorpions. Trapped by negative instincts and response patterns, they think it's their nature and hide behind the belief, "That's the way I am." No one is born with good or bad character. We're born with the capacity to have either, to choose our ultimate nature. When we choose to be good, we are good. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment Our Valuable Anchor! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/ouranchor.html You Are The Only You God Has! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/onlyyougodhas.html Directions Home! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/home.html I Believe In You! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/ibelieveinyou.html Akiane - Child Prodigy http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/prodigy.html Real Eagle Story! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/eagle.html John Scapes Basement! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/basement.html Auto MotorPlex http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/automotorplex.html Awesome Bikes! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/awesomebikes.html Designer Toilet Paper http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/designertp.html Home Security! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/security.html Hot Air Balloons! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/hotair.html Tigerfish! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/tigerfish.html Zoo Animals! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/zoo.html Visit Melissa's Online Store You can get anything you want (except for Melissa ) at the online store http://pdhomes.net/mall/babylissa/mySTORES/ISELL4.html If You haven't joined LynnLynn's mailing List yet, send a blank e-mail to LynnLynns-links-subscribe@Yahoogroups.com ============================================================ ------ _____ / \ ___\ ___/ ___ --/- ___ / \/ / / / \ / / \__ //_ \ / \ / ___ | | ___ \/+--/ / \__ \ \ / \__ | / There are holes in the sky, \ /____ / / | / Where the rain gets in, _____/ ___ \/ /\ The holes are very small, \__ / / | | That's why rain is thin. / \____/ \ / // // / / // / /\ /-_-/\//-__- - Spike Milligan / / // / \__// / / / // // / / // / // / // / /// // / / / // / // // // // / // / / / / / / / / / / /// / / / // // / // // /// / / / / / / /// / // / / // / / / / // /// / /// / / >Redemption from the Mud Story Editor: by Mary Malone Joyce Schowalter Washington, USA I was prepared for the worst. I had water, gloves and tools to scrape the mud, garbage bags in which to put the broken picture frames, tables to set out the photos. But I wasn't prepared for what I saw when I opened the first bag. I had volunteered for cleanup efforts from the flood in Centralia, Washington, in December 2007. A gal named Kathryn had sent a volunteer to my home with photos: four bags and two boxes. The bags were mostly full of pictures in frames, old 70's high school pictures, a black and white or two, and lots of snapshots. I was amazed to see that under an inch of mud, they weren't destroyed. Water really isn't an enemy to pictures, they are developed in liquids, and as long as they don't dry out in this condition, they can be cleaned and made right again. I started on the first pile. I had glimpsed a black and white in the bag and thought I ought to start on the oldest ones first. I had to break the frames in order to get the swollen cardboard backings off. As I peeled, rinsed, and scraped the mud I got down to the glass and the picture. As I slid my putty knife along the edge of the glass, there appeared an old gentleman in a gray flannel hat, with a distinguished-looking mustache. The photo was in nearly perfect condition. Encouraged, I plunged onward, releasing brides and grooms, babies with moms, and school aged children from their muddy prisons. What I was not prepared for as my tables filled up with faces was the surge of raw emotion I felt as I looked on decades of photos nearly destroyed by the raging waters of winter rains. It broke my heart that though these pictures were now relatively safe, many others were lost to their mud-covered sepulchers. A lesson came to me clearly: if your pictures of your family are precious to you, treat them like family. Don't store them on the ground floor if you live close to water of any kind. Make duplicates and store them off-site, in a safe deposit box, or a relative's home. And don't print your pictures at home! I know we all do it, but don't let that be the only copy! Pictures printed by professional developers can be rinsed and cleaned without fear of ruining the photo. Photos printed at home wouldn't be all right after sitting in mud for days -- in fact, they wouldn't be there at all. The first night I rinsed and rinsed for about five hours. My counters and four tables were full of faces I knew nothing about. Families I don't know, children who are grown up with their own children, water skiers, cruises, boat rides, Mustangs, Harleys, babies, grandparents, toddlers and toys. But mostly... my tables were full of hope for rebuilding. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: .==,_ .===,_`\ .====,_ ` \ .====,__ --- .==-,`~. \ `:`.__, --- `~~=-. \ /^^^ ...always on the go! --- `~~=. \ / `~. \ / ~. \____./ jgs `.=====) ___.--~~~--.__ ___\.--~~~ ~~~---.._|/ ~~~" / >THE FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY Esther was babysitting her grandchildren, Cameron, 4, and Madison, 2. And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be. Drop a pebble in the water; in a minute you will forget, But there is little waves a-flowing and there is ripples circling yet, And those little waves a-flowing to a great big wave have grown; You've disturbed a mighty river just by dropping in a stone. Drop an unkind word, or careless: in a minute it is gone; But there's half a hundred ripples circling on and on and on, They keep spreading, spreading, spreading from the center as they go, And there is no way to stop them, once you've started the flow. Drop an unkind word, or careless: in a minute you forget; But there's little waves a-flowing, and there's ripples circling yet. And perhaps in some sad heart a mighty wave of tears you've stirred, And disturbed a life that was happy where you dropped that unkind word. Drop a word of cheer and kindness: just a flash and it is gone; But there is half a hundred ripples circling on and on and on, Bearing hope and joy and comfort on each splashing, dashing wave, Till you wouldn't believe the volume of the one kind word you gave. Drop a word of cheer and kindness: in a minute you will forget; But there's gladness still a ¬swelling, and there's joy circling yet. And you've rolled a wave of comfort whose sweet music can be heard, Over miles and miles of water just by dropping one kind word. --Author Unknown >Updated FUN STUFF URLS - Oh Yeah :) Shangy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/urls.html FUN URLS ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -->BECOMING A CHRISTIAN HOW TO BE A CHRISTIAN! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -->FULL LENGTH - FREE On line AUDIO MP3 Christian Foundational Class http://www.truthortradition.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=61 NEW LIFE IN CHRIST! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -->This is for all you who love food andd DARE to make it at home Yep.
