Dean is a real estate agent and Brenda is principal of Prairie Heights Middle School. Their motorcycle trips have taken them to every state except Alaska and Hawaii. However, on this trip, their motorcycle broke down in the middle of nowhere -- but really they were in just the right place. The breakdown led to numerous new friendships. Terry and Pat Svetlecich brought them back home in their motor home and pulled the motorcycle on a trailer. They even dropped the bike off at a Honda shop. "That's just me," Terry told the Morris newspaper. "Isn't that what you're supposed to do?" In return, the Rummels insisted their new friends stay the night in Indiana and made them a home-cooked meal. The Morris, Illinois, newspaper wrote about the Rummels' experience because Brenda sent a thank you note to the community. People who read her letter to the editor asked the newspaper to tell the rest of the story. I found out about the story through a random Google e-mail alert. * * * * I called Dean and Brenda and told them I had read about them online in the Morris newspaper. They had not seen the article. Then Dean shared with me another story from the same remarkable journey. The day before their breakdown they were whizzing through Iowa on I-80. Surprisingly, the low fuel light went on. Dean knew he shouldn't be low on fuel, but he also knew he couldn't ignore it. There weren't many places to get fuel so he got off at the nearest exit and found a gas station. When he "filled up" he found out the tank would only take about three gallons. It confirmed what he thought and the gas level was not low. A shove on his shoulder made him turn around. It was a woman who seemed to have come out of nowhere. "There's a storm coming. Power lines will come down. High winds," she said. "Get off the road." Dean and Brenda were startled. The sky at the gas station was clear. There was no storm in sight. They did not understand the woman's concern and they decided to continue on I-80 to their destination 100 miles away. The woman's tone was urgent. "Folks, get off the road," she repeated. "Get off the road! There's a bad storm coming!" The woman's persistence and her urgent tone made Dean change his mind and head for Iowa City, 12 miles away. As they sped toward Iowa City, storm clouds suddenly popped up. They increased their speed, racing toward Iowa City. With every passing moment the sky became more threatening. They found a hotel and quickly checked in. The minute they shut the door behind them, the storm struck with fury. Raging winds threw tree limbs across the road. The storm was so strong that the electricity went out for 2-1/2 hours. Escaping the storm's fury seemed like a miracle. Looking back, Dean believes the woman who warned them and then disappeared must have been an angel. -- Grace Housholder ______________________________________________ Grace is the editor of our sister publication, Kidwarmers. As he neared the village, he noticed people lining the streets. He worked his way through the crowd until he could see what was happening. Lo and behold, it was the approaching spectacle of a circus parade! The parade was the grandest thing this lad had ever seen. Caged animals snarled as they passed, bands beat their rhythms and sounded shining horns, midgets performed acrobatics while flags and ribbons swirled overhead. Finally, after everything had passed where he was standing, the traditional circus clown, with floppy shoes, baggy pants, and a brightly painted face, brought up the rear. After the clown passed, the boy turned around and went home. He thought he had seen the circus when he had only seen the parade. Are you experiencing all that God has for you? With the horrible events of last Saturday in Charlottesville, we have to wonder where it will all stop. Two racist opposite sides met there to cause hatred and violence against each other. One favored whites the other favored blacks and minorities. The hatred in their hearts for any one that opposed their view was quite evident and spewed out to the disgrace of all Americans. What was supposed to be happening there in the first place that these two were able to come together and spar? A group got a permit to peacefully protest the removal of a statue. Lately the extreme left, like so many extremist do, are trying to shut down the opposition. That is why the radicals burn and destroy old monuments, Buddhist statues, and any other historic object not related to their Muslim heritage. One way they are doing it here is to shine a light on our American history and heritage calling it evil due to slavery. Most all our founding fathers owned slaves. Many of our statues are of leaders that stood up for what they believed in. That was our history. But now they want to eradicate it due to their seeing it as being evil or bad. The problem with that line of thinking is like our President pointed out - where will it end? Do we remove George Washington statues or Abraham Lincoln? Both were slave owners. That is part of world history. Not just white American history. The left would like people to think it was all evil US white people who owned slaves. However, slavery was world wide when the settlers came to America. Even Chinese, Africans, Mohammad and Muslims owned salves. The Native Americans also owned slaves before the settlers even came here. "It is not an accident that our modern ideas of freedom and democracy emerged in a slave society. Most early societies lacked a word for freedom; but large-scale slavery in classical Greece and Rome made these people more aware of the distinctive nature of freedom. Slavery never disappeared from medieval Europe. While slavery declined in northwestern Europe, it persisted in Sicily, southern Italy, Russia, southern France, Spain, and North Africa. Most of these slaves were "white," coming from areas in Eastern Europe or near the Black Sea." Read this for more... Slavery in the Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern Worlds http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/disp_textbook.cfm?smtid=2&psid=3027 So it is illogical to try and remove our past history due to it being linked to slavery. It was a normal thing. Thankfully, our President Lincoln saw how unequal it was and abolished slavery in America. That caused many white people to loose their lives fighting to end slavery in America. It is unjust to call all white Americans evil due to whites owning slaves in America's past. Even our black people owned slaves back then. I, for one, know of not a single person who thinks racism in any way, shape, or form is OK. It is hatred and as we all know, hatred is of the devil. Christians should all find racism an abomination and seek to renew their mind to not ever accepting it as being OK. No matter how many times President Trump disavows racism and all its evil hatred, the left want to somehow smear him with its ugly filthiness. You see it in the news today... Mazzella When I was a boy I used to love to go bike riding. There was a Summer 4-H camp full of paved roadways across the road from my home. During the Spring and Fall this camp was mainly empty and the roadways were clear for me and my bike. I would ride my old, banana-seat, foot-brake bicycle for hours. The camp grounds had a lot of steep hills that were tough to get up. Often I would have to climb off and push my bike up them. The downhill rides, however, made it all worthwhile. I felt like I was flying, and I barely had to pedal at all. It was pure fun, pure delight, pure joy, and pure happiness. I laughed all the way with the wind in my face, my heart in my throat, and my soul in Heaven. Choosing love, joy, and oneness with God each day often reminds me of those childhood bike rides. It can take a bit of work to get going at first. You can even feel like you are pushing your bike up a steep hill full of problems, work, and worldly concerns. Once you get going, however, you find that the ride becomes easier and easier. Soon you feel like you are flying along without even having to pedal at all. Soon you feel wind blowing in your face, joy filling up your heart, and love radiating from your soul. You find yourself laughing more, smiling more, and singing more. You find yourself sharing more, giving more, and helping more. You find yourself loving others, spreading joy, and living the way that God meant for you to live. You find yourself realizing that God is love, that life is joy, and that we are all God’s children. If you choose then each day of your life can become a fantastic ride of love and joy that takes you a little further along the road to Heaven. The longer you ride too the less steep the hills will become. The longer you ride the faster and smoother you will go. The longer you ride the more you will feel God pedaling right along beside you and smiling all the way. Enjoy the ride. -<>- _____ _..--'''@ @'''--.._ .' @_/-//-\/>/>'/ @ '. Although 21, he's about the size of a 6-year-old, with the functioning mind of a toddler. He can only walk with assistance, his main ride is a wheelchair, and he doesn't feed himself. Thankfully he eats regular food, but we feed him everything. While he uses the toilet well, scheduling is important, so he wears diapers full-time. He doesn't talk, but makes enough noises that we can tell if he's happy, hungry or not feeling well. We're fortunate that for the most part, he is healthy. Happiness in life for him is simple. He loves to eat, laugh, and play with toys. He loves to swim (kicking around hanging on a "noodle" while being attended to), watch bright lights (perhaps fuzzy for him), and watch fireworks. Being the parent of a disabled child causes me to see life differently. I've had to accept that people react inappropriately when they see him since he's different. They make assumptions based on what they see and think. In 2009 we took Christopher to a local County Fair. He likes the animals, loves to watch the lights and rides, and likes the bright, fun environment. Near the evening's end my wife and I were pushing him through the games area to the exit. We tried hard to avoid eye contact with all the carnies challenging us to knock over lead-laden pins or throw darts at balloons. As we kept our pace up and ignored them, we heard one guy calling after us. He continued to yell, "Hey! Wait a minute!" Glancing back, we saw he was actually coming after us with something in his handŠ He caught up to us. Grinning widely, he said, "Here, I think your son dropped this." He held out a silly stuffed animal we'd never owned. We explained that another child must've dropped it. With twinkling eyes, he winked and said, "Here, I'm sure this belongs to your son," and pressed it into our son's lap. Still smiling, he walked away to our joint "Thank you." Time stood still as my eyes filled with tears and I realized what had just happened. I'd been as guilty as anyone at stereotyping people who work carnivals, "the carnies," as unclean, sleazy, chain-smoking, etc. Perhaps there are elements of truth to those stereotypes, however, hundreds of people that evening had gawked at or ignored our son or tried to avoid us. Yet this guy chased us down to give Christopher a gift. He didn't have to. I'd never suspected "someone like him" would do such a thing. The simplest of gestures from one person showed me the error of my ways and reminded me to judge not, lest I be judged. That ugly little stuffed orange orangutan sits in a prominent place in my son's room. It poignantly reminds me to not judge someone from their outward appearance, and to not make assumptions based on who they are and what they do. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Laugh&Lift: .---. ___ /_____\ /\.-`( '.' ) / / \_-_/_ \ `-.-"`'V'//-. `.__, |// , \ |Ll //Ll|\ \ |__// | \_\ /---|[]==| / / \__/ | \/\/ /_ | Ll_\| |`^"""^`| | | | | | | | | | | | | L___l___J jgs |_ | _| (___|___) ^^^ ^^^ >A New Job (Submitted by Janet Dixon) My husband was in the military and when he got "orders" for a permanent change of station, that meant packing up and moving with him. We moved to this city and I submitted my paperwork to a Civilian Personnel Office for a job. Waiting to hear from the personnel office turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Finally after about two years, I was really beginning to get frustrated (trying to be patient). So I decided to give the personnel office a visit. Upon visiting with the personnel clerk, I discovered that my name had been submitted for (now get this) 105 jobs over the last two years. I couldn't believe it! I've heard of the saying "It's not what you know, but who you know", but this was ridiculous. Not only had I been considered for 105 jobs, but not once had I been interviewed. I made up in my mind that I was going to have to talk to my "Father in Heaven" about this. For I said if it's true about not what you know, but who you know, then I know God and I'm putting my "Father" on this right now. After the personnel office closed the following day, I went out to the Civilian Personnel Office and laid my hands on the building and prayed that the Lord would touch the minds of the people that were in charge of hiring and that they would select me for the right job. After praying and activating my faith, I LEFT IT ALONE and went to school to learn another trade. Now mind you this was the latter part of August. One day in October when I got home from school, there was a message on my answering machine for me to call the Personnel Office. I called the next day and they had a job offer for me! This was during the time that there was a "freeze" on hiring for an indefinite period of time. The clerk said, "We would like to offer you a job, and it's a part-time ... Oh, wait a minute, this is strange... it is a full -time position ... We haven't seen one of these in a looong time!" And she went on to say "The hours are from ... Um, this is strange also, the hours are from 8 p.m. - 4 a.m. This is all so very strange for a permanent full-time position to come thru here at this time and for the hours to be as they are." I thought to myself that is strange to her, but not to me for I know the Power of God! I truly knew that God had seen my faith and my patience and had rewarded me for that. You see, I was able to go to school during the day from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and work at night from 8 p.m. - 4 a.m. Not only that, but when we were not busy on my job at night, I was able to study for tests and do homework. When we finished early (God made sure that we finished early almost every night), I was able to leave and get more rest before having to go to school the next day. He had not had accidents during the day for quite some time, and he decided he was too big to wear a training pant to bed. One night they spent an evening in the basement due to bad thunderstorms. Brayton replied, "No, I rained in them!" -- Tina Alley (mother of Brayton) of Auburn, Indiana A small thunderstorm went through the area and Michelle was busy unplugging the major electronic equipment such as the TV's and computers. Her boys were in tow and became frightened by the thunder. Michelle told them that was just the angels in heaven. The phone rang and Michelle didn't want to use the handset because of the storm, so she hit the speaker button. It was her sister-in-law, Becky. Michelle told her they were having a storm and she would need to call her back. Immediately after Michelle hung up, Bobby, 4, asked, "Mommy, why did the angel call?" Michelle replied, "That wasn't an angel, it was Aunt Becky." He said, "Oh, I don't know that angel." -- Michelle Hunter of Angola, Indiana Myrle's 5-year-old granddaughter loves to sit on her lap and play. One day she was on Myrle's lap and just fell over. Max pointed to a box of crackers, indicating he wanted one. So Sandi said, "Say the nice word (meaning please)." Max looked at Sandi with a puzzled expression and said sweetly, "Nice word." After laughing out loud, Sandi said, "Nana meant that the nice word is please." (She meant the area behind her knees). -- Jane Storey (mother of Lana who is now 19) of Ontario, Canada Emily, 5, greeted her mother Jodi at the door. Jodi had brought one of her office plants home to nurse back to health because it had spider mites. Afraid of bugs, Emily carefully looked over the plant and said, "I don't see any spiders, Mommy, where are they?" Jodi told her that they weren't spiders like she knew, they were spider mites and that they were too small to see. Emily replied, "Too small to see, they must be really clumsy!" -- Mark Brayton (father of Emily) of Kendallville, Indiana Janice's granddaughter Sara just started second grade. The teacher has a bell on her desk which asked the students not to ring unless she has stepped out of the room and they need her. One student rang it because she had to go to the bathroom. Then Sara rang it, and got into trouble. When Janice asked Sara why she rang it, Sara said, "'Cause the other girl did." (Janice says that happened on the first day of school -- it's going to be a long year, she says!) -- Janice Finley of Arab, Alabama Note: You are welcomed to use, copy and share these stories, but please reference http://www.funnykids.com as the source. ========================================================== &&&&& |~ |~ && -.-& |~ o' o' & . o' jrei __)` -(_ >-->~ I Heard Him Whisper ~ I heard a whisper in my ear, When He called my name.
