Not feeling very well I really didn't want to go. For years, going to such things meant very little to me. Not having any parents and having been raised in an orphanage my entire childhood; those kinds of events just became something to do and nothing more because there was never anyone there for us. The next morning I got up and began to think about the day I graduated from the Army basic training. How proud I was to have succeeded at something in my life. When the ceremony was over, every soldier ran to their parents and off they went to wherever families go who love one another. Within thirty minutes the parade ground was cleared and there I stood all alone. There was no one who cared about what I had accomplished. I remember tears running down my cheeks and as I wiped them away I thought soldiers don't cry now cause they're men. Slowly I walked off the parade ground and I went to wherever it is kids go that don't have anyone or anywhere to go. Immediately, I dressed and headed for Madison's school. When I arrived, the field day had been called off because of bad weather and the children were being herded back to their classrooms. I walked to Madi's classroom and when she saw me a large smile appeared on her face. On my way back home this wonderful feeling came over me and finally -- after fifty years -- I felt what it was like to have someone attend my Army graduation parade. I see now it's all about caring. I was never given a sense that anyone cared so I did not learn to give back to those I love. I suppose most people who were given such feeling as a child now take it for granted. What a wonderful feeling caring is. Today I am one happy old dog who has learned a new and wonderful trick. -- Roger Kiser Sr. __________________________________________________ You can read more about Roger's triumphs over adversity here: ================================================================== >-->From Our Friend Bunni :) , }`-. , , \ \ '-' \ .-'{ _} . | ,`\ / ' ; .-;\ { \ | | / `/ '-.,/ ; | { -- -. I look out the window and see the trees with their leaves dead and falling softly to the ground. This is how I picture me before You. I was like a tree that was slowly dying, losing all its beautiful leaves, just giving up on life. And then ...... THERE WAS YOU. The leaves slowly begin to come back to life, almost magically as they begin to rustle in the light breeze. With each new breeze that softly blows over them (which are your words you write to me) they take on more life, more vitality. They begin to rustle once again as they begin to change from dead, yellowed colors to beautiful shades of red. Then such lovely orange shades begin to mingle in. Beautiful golden colors that shine brighter than the sun begin to shimmer through the once again vibrant leaves. A light mist begins to fall coating each leaf with drops of life giving moisture. The mist is You enveloping each leaf with Love and making them feel alive again after feeling only death for so long. The tree can't help but reach out its branches as it begs for more and more of the life giving love. What would the tree do without the mist that is You? How would it survive? Sadly, it would most likely begin to wither and slowly begin to die once again. The beautiful leaves would once again begin to turn yellow from lack of the source of their life giving strength that flows from you. | -x- | v . ._, |_ ., `-._\/ . \ / |/_ \\ _\, y | \// _\_.___\\, \\/ -.\|| `7-,--.`._|| / / , /' `-. `./ / |/_.' | |// |_ / |- | | =| | | --------------------/ , . \--------._ This is but a simple illustration, but it is how I've come to think of you, my Love. Loaded down with paddles and life preservers, we herded the kids to water's edge. Captain Linus on the bow, oarsman Dad behind him, first mate Camille next in line and oarswoman Mom at the stern into the waves we surged. After a few wobbly moments in the break, the crew settled. We began to scour the depths for the Gulf's finest cow rays, turtles, fish of assorted sizes and our family favorite dolphin. "Look, Momma," squealed Camille. Two hundred yards offshore we spotted the gently undulating fins, rising and falling like the waves they glided through. "Let's go play with them," Linus called out. We dug into the water and pulled away from the coastline. At three boat lengths, we violated their comfort zone. Repeatedly they dove until we slowed behind them and gently kept pace. Suddenly, the lead male leapt high into the sky, spun and crashed into a trough. "Whoa," Linus yelled. "I want him to do that again." "Ask him," Ali counseled. "Use your mind and make a wish." You might draw a different conclusion. One fact remains Indisputable the impact of a few emboldening words on one small boy's beliefs. He will face the world with his head held a tad taller and his shoulders slightly further back because of a mother's Encouragement as would we all. Fortunately, this phenomenon continues throughout adulthood. Declarations of courage, expressions of spirit, pledges of the heart every utterance bears a torch, lighting the way or burning it. Nothing sits in a vacuum. We have much power to pick up a wounded soul, spur on a frightened yet hopeful comrade, challenge a friend to not give up. Watch what comes out of your mouth. Criticism damages far more than it heals. Kindness builds. Insensitivity destroys. Only three feet separate a pat on the back from a kick in the rear. One helps. The other hurts. Which would you rather feel? Your words matter. -<>- >SECRET INGREDIENT There's a reason why some people succeed in life and others do not. Why some people seem to find their place while others never quite "get it together." And why many average and ordinary people accomplish extraordinary, or at least fulfilling, things while others expect that they will never really amount to much. It is even more basic than raw talent or hard work. It is more fundamental than background or intelligence. It has to do with what makes successful people use the talent they possess or choose to work hard and persevere. It has to do with the reasons why some people compensate for poor backgrounds and others do not, why some intelligent people lead healthy and happy lives and others flounder. In his article "How 'Average' People Excel" (Reader's Digest, 1992), Alan Loy McGinnis tells about how Thomas J. Watson, Jr., discovered this "secret" ingredient to successful living and what happened to him as a result. Watson's father was founder and longtime head of IBM. But young Thomas was a lackluster student who even needed a tutor to get through the IBM sales school. He recalls that he had no distinctions and no successes. Then he took flying lessons. What a feeling! He learned that he was good at flying. He plowed everything into this "mad pursuit," as he fondly called it, and gained self-confidence. Watson became an officer in the US Air Force during WWII. Though not brilliant, he discovered that he had "an orderly mind and an unusual ability to focus on what was important and to put it across to others." He capitalized on these traits and went back to IBM. He eventually became chief executive of the corporation and took it into the computer age. In 15 years, he increased IBM's revenues almost tenfold. What is it that some "ordinary" people possess and others lack? What is that ingredient that catapults some people up and away from the crowd? It is confidence. "It's not what you are that holds you back," says entrepreneur Denis Waitley, "it's what you think you are not." Those who believe that they will never do well in a particular area probably never will. Those who believe they are not good at anything will forever feel inadequate. But those who refuse to let fearful thoughts hold them back will quickly excel. Confidence is a life ingredient that is essential to success and wholeness. It is perhaps the single most important trait that enables "average" people to do and become all that they can. Like the little boy sitting on the bench at his team's baseball game. When asked by a concerned parent if he was discouraged that his team was behind 14 to nothing, he responded, "Discouraged? Why should I be discouraged? We haven't been up to bat yet!" With confidence like that, anything is possible! -Steve Goodier -<>- >Have no Fear Just reach out and He'll take your hand Through hills and mountains and unsteady land He'll be your guide, your prayers He'll hear Have faith in Him, and have no fear When you're worried or deep in sorrow He'll get you through the day and tomorrow He knows your heartache, pain and tear Have faith in Him, and have no fear He told us we've got a mansion over the hill Listen to Him and do His will He loves the earth, all creatures dear Have faith in Him, and have no fear No matter what we must face in life today Just take His hand and He'll lead the way Trust Him always, to Him adhere Have faith in Him, and have no fear -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment Parent VS Kids http://www.buffaloschips.com/dsfsdj.htm Parking 1 http://www.buffaloschips.com/sdfsd.htm Parking 2 http://www.buffaloschips.com/asddsas.htm Parking3 http://www.buffaloschips.com/gdfgds.htm Peeling http://www.buffaloschips.com/dsfasd.htm Attitude Is Everything 5 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude5.html 90/20 Principle http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/giving.html Life's Little Oops 3 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/whoops3.html The Sleep Metaphore http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/sleepmetaphor.html Never Give Up http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/nevergiveup.html Beautiful Bridges http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bridges.html Amazing Bus Stops http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bus.html Miracle Coyote http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/coyote.html Aww Animals 6 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/animals6.html Koalas In A Heatwave http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/koalas.html Koalas In A Heatwave 2 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/koalas2.html Ten Life Tips http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lifetips.html Amazing Gibraltar Airport http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/airroad.html Visit our site at http://www.inspiredbuffalo.com If you are looking to join any of our other fine e-zines visit www.buffaloschips.com ================================================================ >-->From CupO'Cheer :) .--, .--, ( ( \.---./ ) ) '.__/o o\__.' {= ^ =} > - < / \ // \\ //| . |\\ "'\ /'"_.-~^`'-. \ _ /--' ` jgs ___)( )(___ 'It is a long tail, certainly said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse's tail; 'but why do you call it sad?' Twice Abraham succumbed to his fear that a ruler would kill him and steal his wife (Gen. 12:11-20; 20:2-13). Fearing for his life, he deceived both Pharaoh and King Abimelech by saying, “She is my sister”—in essence welcoming the king to take Sarah into his harem (20:2). With fear dictating his actions, he put at risk God’s plan that through him and Sarah a great nation would arise (12:1-3). But before we judge Abraham, we should ask ourselves a few questions. For fear of losing our job, would we compromise our integrity? For fear of appearing old-fashioned, would we set aside our values? For fear of being ridiculed or misunderstood, would we neglect sharing the gospel and put someone’s eternity at risk? Only one thing will conquer our fears: tenacious faith in God’s presence, protection, power, and promises. If your fear is putting God’s wonderful plans for you at risk, remember that He will never ask you to do anything He can’t bring to completion, even if it requires miraculous intervention on His part. —Joe Stowell It often helps in time of trial When fearful and alone, To know that every doubt we feel The greatest saints have known. —D. (Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)) We all think that we could recognize the devil's schemes. Sometimes I wonder if that is possible without putting on the full armor of God. Think about that for a moment. When we put on the full armor of God, we clothe ourselves in God's Word. We fully embrace the Holy Spirit's presence within our lives. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus is the Messiah. He is our personal Lord and Savior. In other words, we long to know God and His commands. We should be able to discern what is from God and what is from the enemy. It should be second nature to us. We should know the voice of our Lord, Savior and Master. Now consider that Satan will often masquerade as an angel of light. Is our faith and understanding of God strong enough to distinguish a false angel of light from the voice of God? I would like to think that each of us is to that point in our faith. I would like to think that we are fully clothed in the full armor of God so that Satan cannot catch us off guard through one of his deceptions. Unfortunately, none of us is perfect. We can fall if we let down our guard. We must be prepared! Study God's Word. Pray for guidance and discernment. Pray for wisdom. Be ready to recognize God's voice and reject the devil's schemes. You might want to take a second look. It is possible that someone reading this right now has a coin of incredible value without even knowing it... An extremely rare 1943 copper penny, of which only about 40 were ever made, is back in circulation. Normally worth one cent, this particular penny might be worth as much as $500,000 dollars. And you might have it right now! In 1998, a man from Idaho who had the rare penny in his collection for a number of years accidentally mixed it in with his regular change and spent it. The penny, known as a "wheatie" to coin collectors, has not yet been rediscovered by its new owner... Almost everyone who hears this story says the same thing - they would NEVER have been so careless. Never??? History might indicate otherwise... Many people made a similar mistake when the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin was issued a number of years ago. The coins were never well accepted because people were always mistaking them for quarters rather than dollars due to their sizes being the same. People couldn't tell the difference between the two. Unfortunately, the same thing often happens with Christians and non-Christians. Often the world can't see a difference between the two... If you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, your life IS different! Your life was instantly transformed when you made the decision to follow Christ. Your sins were forgiven! You have eternal life! You became a part of the fellowship of believers - a member of the family of God! We should be the happiest people on the planet and our lives should show it! The Bible describes it this way in 1 Peter 2:9-10: "But you are God's "chosen generation", his "royal priesthood", his "holy nation", his "peculiar people" - all the old titles of God's people now belong to you. It is for you now to demonstrate the goodness of him who has called you out of darkness into his amazing light. In the past you were not "a people" at all: now you are the people of God. In the past you had no experience of his mercy, but now it is intimately yours." (Phillips Translation) As citizens of heaven and heirs having the hope of eternal life the Bible urges each of us to "...live a life worthy of the calling you have received." Ephesians 4:1 (NIV) In a world filled with darkness, Matthew 5:14 and 16 reminds each of us that "You are the light of the world." "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (NIV) How about you? Can the world see a difference in your life? Can they see the change that is a result of having placed your hope in Jesus Christ? Dear Lord Jesus, may our prayer today be the same as what Paul wrote for the church of Colosse: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17 (NIV) (Psalm 145:21-146:2 NIV) May we "live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:10b-14 NIV) Amen. Although 21, he's about the size of a 6-year-old, with the functioning mind of a toddler. He can only walk with assistance, his main ride is a wheelchair, and he doesn't feed himself. Thankfully he eats regular food, but we feed him everything. While he uses the toilet well, scheduling is important, so he wears diapers full-time. He doesn't talk, but makes enough noises that we can tell if he's happy, hungry or not feeling well. We're fortunate that for the most part, he is healthy. Happiness in life for him is simple. He loves to eat, laugh, and play with toys. He loves to swim (kicking around hanging on a "noodle" while being attended to), watch bright lights (perhaps fuzzy for him), and watch fireworks. Being the parent of a disabled child causes me to see life differently. I've had to accept that people react inappropriately when they see him since he's different. They make assumptions based on what they see and think. In 2009 we took Christopher to a local County Fair. He likes the animals, loves to watch the lights and rides, and likes the bright, fun environment. Near the evening's end my wife and I were pushing him through the games area to the exit. We tried hard to avoid eye contact with all the carnies challenging us to knock over lead-laden pins or throw darts at balloons. As we kept our pace up and ignored them, we heard one guy calling after us. He continued to yell, "Hey! Wait a minute!" Glancing back, we saw he was actually coming after us with something in his hands. He caught up to us. Grinning widely, he said, "Here, I think your son dropped this." He held out a silly stuffed animal we'd never owned. We explained that another child must've dropped it. With twinkling eyes, he winked and said, "Here, I'm sure this belongs to your son," and pressed it into our son's lap. Still smiling, he walked away to our joint "Thank you." Time stood still as my eyes filled with tears and I realized what had just happened. I'd been as guilty as anyone at stereotyping people who work carnivals, "the carnies," as unclean, sleazy, chain-smoking, etc. Perhaps there are elements of truth to those stereotypes, however, hundreds of people that evening had gawked at or ignored our son or tried to avoid us. Yet this guy chased us down to give Christopher a gift. He didn't have to. I'd never suspected "someone like him" would do such a thing. The simplest of gestures from one person showed me the error of my ways and reminded me to judge not, lest I be judged. That ugly little stuffed orange orangutan sits in a prominent place in my son's room. It poignantly reminds me to not judge someone from their outward appearance, and to not make assumptions based on who they are and what they do. =======HeroicStories======= {} oIIo oIIo || || I. || |: _||_ |: .' || `. |: / || \ |: | :: | |: )_ :: _( |: _)( :: )(_ |: ) ._)::(_. "A dollar, a dollar"; then, "Two!" "Only two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; three dollars twice, Going for three ---" But no, From the room, far back, a gray-haired man Came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust from the old violin, And tightening the loose strings, He played a melody pure and sweet, As a caroling angel sings. The music ceased, and the auctioneer, With a voice that was quiet and low, Said: "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow. "A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, And going, and gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, We do not quite understand What changed its worth." Swift came the reply: The touch of a master's hand." And many a man with life out of tune, And battered and scarred with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd Much like the old violin. A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine, A game -- and he travels on. He is "going" once, and "going" twice, He's "going" and almost "gone." But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd Never can quite understand The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought By the touch of the Master's hand. ============================================================= >-->Inspiring Quotes: "Our achievements of today are but the sum total of our thoughts of yesterday.
