After all, it was a joyous holiday season. I wanted to give something, without charge, as a present to strangers everywhere. Within hours of publication, I was blessed by an overwhelming response. Forward after forward it was sent. I was thrilled to receive lovely greetings from individuals across the United States and as far away as Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As a writer, I was honored. As a person wishing to spread joy at Christmas time, I was humbled. Then, suddenly, everything began to spin out of control. A few readers deleted my byline. Before long, Christmas Love was being forwarded as an anonymous story. Realizing I didn't have control over the delete button of thousands of emailers, I turned it over to God. Until one night, when I'd just about had enough. Exhausted and annoyed, I emailed the webmaster of a site who'd omitted the author's credit. I tried to sound tough (which I'm not) so I told her it was nothing short of stealing to place it online, then forward it to thousands of her subscribers without first doing a proper check on the author. I angrily signed my name, hit send, and went to bed. The next morning, I woke up to over 100 new emails. "Great, more fan mail," I thought. But as I began to open them up, it hit me. This wasn't fan mail at all, but angry, furious, hate mail. As I pieced two and two together, I realized, in her frustration, she'd sent out my email to all her subscribers. And, let me tell you, several came after me with a vengeance. At first, I felt defensive. After all, I wasn't the person who did something wrong! But, as time went on, I knew better. Yes, there was no doubt about it, I was wrong too -- not in my premise, but in my tone. By responding in anger, before giving her a chance to correct the situation, I put everyone on the defense. And she chose to teach me a lesson. As much as it hurt, I must admit, I deserved it. It was a painful experience, but one that's taught me well. Person after person expressed my original story touched their soul, but my follow-up email canceled out all the prior good. How could the woman who shared such a tender story also write such angry, rude words? Clearly, they had me on a pedestal, and I'd fallen off. Wasn't I supposed to be more spiritual than that? (My family, by the way, laughs at the thought) I was devastated. I cried nonstop. I didn't eat. I hardly slept. I felt the whole world hated me. And, to make matters worse, I knew I'd hurt thousands of people, which was far from my original desire to share a heartfelt miracle. One by one, I emailed each individual an apology. I felt I owed everyone that much. Much to my amazement, most responded with kindness, offering forgiveness, even including their own apology for what they'd written to me. They now understood first hand, how easy it is to get angry, write a nasty email, and hit send before thinking it through. They were sorry. I was sorry. Everybody was sorry. Lots of tears flowed from the USA, to France and as far away as Nigeria. What did I learn, you ask? Words can be a blessing or a curse. The decision is ours. And now? Christmas Love continues to circulate, especially over the holidays. When it appears without the author's credit, I send a polite note asking for a byline. And much to my surprise, everyone's been more than agreeable. Yes, one simple story taught me the greatest lesson of all -- animosity will spread like wildfire, but love and kindness will bless the entire world. -- Candy Chand ___________________________________________ Candy Chand is the author of, Gift of Grace, available at bookstores nationwide and by clicking on this link. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1931412200/heart/ref=nosim ========================================================== >-->From Our Friend Bunni :) , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >SCRIPTURES Faith is our spiritual oxygen. It not only keeps us alive in God but enables us to grow stronger. Read James 2:17 God told us to seek Him with all our hearts and don't lean on our own understanding. The greatest honor you can give God is to live gladly and joyfully because of the knowledge of His love. Read Proverbs 15:15 Forgiveness frees us to move into all that God has in store for us. Read Luke 11:4 There is no need to fear the decisions of life when you know Jesus Christ, for His name is Counselor!!! Read James 1:8 ONLY by the Grace of God, you are what you are. Glory in your selfhood, accept yourself and go on from there. Read Philippians 1:6 A great freedom God gives us is to be ourselves, defined by His Love and our inner qualities and gifts rather than any kind of show we could put on for the world. Read Philippians 1:6 I was amused recently at the grocery store by the label on a lotion that claimed to be an effective stress reliever. I could hear a baby screaming in the next aisle. I had a brief impulse to offer the lotion to the poor mom pushing the cranky cargo, but I was afraid I might gat a little stress thrown back. ha. The world just can't seem to come up with a real, lasting solution to the trains of life. PLEASE READ Micah 4:2 Take time to be tender. Fragile and delicate are the feelings of most who seek our help. They need to sense we are there because we care, not just because it's our job. Read 1 thessalonians 2:7 Change is inevitabe. You can either roll with it or be rolled over by it. Read Isaiah 9:6 (For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government will be upon His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.) Can you imagine being one whom God esteems or respects, one on whom He looks "favoraby."?? We must view humility as a dear friend. Read Isaiah 66:2 --- ...Great! There ought to be something about a Christian which makes them different from the rest of the unbelieving world; "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17). The moment we truly believe in Jesus Christ and accept the forgiveness offered through His sacrifice, we are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit and become a "new creation." But at the very instant of what we call our new birth, there is little recognizable difference between the old creation and the new. The transformation is done on our heart when we receive His Spirit, but there still remains a long process of maturing and allowing this transformation to consume every area of our life. Much of the letters written by Paul were devoted to this same subject. He spent most of his ministry preaching the good news of Salvation through faith in Jesus; but most of his writing was to Christians, instructing them on how they should live. Ephesians 4:22-24 "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." These verses are part of a three chapter passage (Ephesians 4-6) which begins with "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (Ephesians 4:1) and includes teaching about unity, love, humility, anger, purity, husbands, wives, parents, children, slaves, masters, and the full armor of God - all teaching about what is meant by the new self! Some find it hard to understand that a Christian must be taught and urged how to live, but Paul understood. In fact, it's clear in the original language that Paul is saying to put on the new self...and to KEEP putting it on!! This is perhaps the most important, yet also the most neglected, teaching of the church today. We seem to have lost the understanding that the Christian life is designed to be a radical transformation which lasts all the rest of our days. The call to "come as you are" is also a call to prepare for, and expect, change. The new life we have been given is not like the old - it is "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Let's rise up every day and be determined to put away the old and live according to the new. Let's show the world that our walk is different - that we walk hand in hand with Jesus - that we have and will continue to put on the new self. Have a Christ Centered Day! I really hate to admit to this, especially in writing. It's bound to be used against me at my inevitable sanity hearing. But I burned more calories on my exercise machine while getting ready for that open house than I have since I bought it. Here's the goofy part. I burned all those calories by PUSHING the monstrous thing into the storage area. How embarrassing. Doesn't it seem like just owning the machine should make me fit? After all, I invested a big hunk of money in it. I thought I'd see the muscle multiplying and the fat melting away even as I wrote out the check. I wonder if there are people who have the same kind of warped view when it comes to God's Word? Could they possibly think that by finding the biggest, fattest, most expensive Bible, they automatically become spiritual? Or maybe they think that while writing that tithe check they suddenly have a special understanding of the will of God. But Ephesians 6:17 tells us to "take" the Word of God. Not just buy it. Not set it on a shelf for some kind of spiritual protection. We're not to just glance at a few pages now and then. No, we're to take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." TAKE it. We're to wield it. How insane would we consider a soldier who strapped on the heaviest, shiniest sword, then went into battle trying to bop people with its sheath? He'd be more destined for a sanity hearing than even I am. Let's use God's Word, let it become a part of what we do and even who we are. That's a big part of what being filled with the Holy Spirit and walking in him is all about. That's when we're able to do what we were designed to do. --- ...Great Advice! G. Franklin Allee wrote how, "In March 1863, a young mother,Elizabeth George was making her way across the hills of South Wales, carrying her tiny babe in her arms when she was overtaken by a blinding blizzard. She never reached her destination alive, and when the blizzard subsided her body was found beneath the snow. But the searchers discovered that before her death she had taken off all her outer clothing and wrapped it about her baby. And when they unwrapped the child, to their great surprise and joy, they found he was alive and well. She had given her life for her child, providing the depth of her mother love. "Years later that child, David Lloyd George, when grown to manhood, became prime minister of the United Kingdom, and without doubt was one of Britain's greatest statesmen. The UK was a better place for a time because a mother gave her life for her son." On a much greater scale the world today is a better place because on Good Friday 2,000 years God the Father gave his Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cruel Roman cross to pay the penalty for the sins of all mankind. Thank God that includes you and me. And now, because of Jesus' death, all who put their trust in him will live forever in Heaven with God where there will be no more sickness, sadness, sorrow or death. Thus Good Friday and Easter Sunday--when Jesus rose from the dead--are two days that changed the world forever. Note: If you have never accepted Jesus as your Savior, be sure to read the article, "How to Be Sure You're a Real Christian" at: www.actsweb.org/articles. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, how can I ever thank you enough for giving your Son, Jesus, to die in my place on the cross. Because you died for me, Lord Jesus, I give my heart and life to live for you all the days of my life. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen." -<>- \\ ///// | | (| _ _ |) |` | '| | __ | >>>___/\_^__/\___<<< / ||| \ Mike Hertz >FEAR NOT Please forgive me if I seem a little pensive today. Last night, we said goodbye to Brock, our son-in-law, who is leaving for his third tour of Army duty in Iraq. And today, I'm feeling... Well, I'm not exactly sure what I'm feeling. Sadness? Yes, I'm feeling that. Brock has become an important part of our family, and I'm going to miss him – no doubt about it. But it's more than just that. There's anxiety involved, trepidation, too. Brock is going to a scary place. I'm worried about his safety, and I'm concerned about his wellbeing. I'm troubled. I'm frightened. I'm afraid. Yes, that's it: fear. That's what I'm feeling: fear, pure and simple. Brock is going to be in harm's way for the next year, and I'm afraid for him, for my daughter, for my granddaughter, and for me. Please don't misunderstand. I'm proud of him. He's a good man, and he's doing something in which he profoundly believes. He understands the risks, and while he isn't exactly excited to go again, he goes willingly, honorably and, in my view, heroically. Still, I'm afraid. Partly because I'm not nearly as brave and courageous as Brock is. And partly because... Well... I'm human, and humans feel fear… Some of us more than others. God knows and understands that. So do His angels. That's probably why the first thing angelic visitors say when encountering mortal human beings here on earth is: "Fear not." You can look it up. That's the first thing the angel said to Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist. It's also the first thing the angel Gabriel said to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the first thing the angels said to the shepherds, who were "abiding in their fields" that first Christmas night. In each of those cases, I think there's a double meaning to the words, "Fear not." Of course, the first meaning was immediate, and had to do with the fact that those folks were seeing an angel and might be inclined to freak out a little. So the angel says, "It's OK. You don't need to be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you." But the deeper meaning had to do with the thing the angel was there to announce, which would lead to the elimination of fear, forever. This time of year, we think of a time when a woman named Mary Magdalene stood outside an empty garden tomb. When you consider all she had seen and experienced during the previous few days, it is only natural that she was troubled, concerned and, yes, afraid. So it's all the more remarkable that the first words out of the angel's mouth that first Easter morning were those two simple words I've been talking about: "Fear not." This time, I think, the words were all about their deeper meaning. Because of what had just taken place, "fear not." Because the tomb was empty, "fear not." Because of Easter, "fear not," fear not today, not tomorrow, not ever. It's a powerful message, especially at a time when fear seems to have us by the throat. War, disease, natural disasters, global warming, March Madness . . . Everywhere you look there is some-thing about which to worry. And worry can be a good thing, I guess, if it motivates us to positive action in our lives and in the lives of others. But fear paralyzes. It freezes us. It makes us stop what we're doing, curl up in a little ball and hide. And so the message of Easter is simple: "Fear not." No matter what is happening in our lives or in the world around us, "fear not." Do what needs to be done. Respond to issues and circumstances as they arise. Change the world, if need be. But "fear not." War-bound sons-in-law notwithstanding. We were driving a 1972 Audi sedan, which was comfortable for us with our two children, 10 and 12 years old. The car developed what sounded like an engine miss, so I stopped several times to check under the hood. Except for a worn spark plug wire I could find no problems. We got on the Florida turnpike in Wildwood, and got into Orlando, where the car quit and wouldn't restart. It was around 4:00 p.m., traffic was heavy and we had passed a service area fifteen miles back. With darkness under an hour away I hitchhiked back to the service area leaving my family in the car, catching a ride right away. At the service area I met a wrecker driver named Wendell. I had run the battery down trying to restart the car but Wendell told me not to worry, he'd take care of it. We left immediately. Back at the car we tried to start it -- in vain. Wendell loaded it on the wrecker and towed it back to the service area. But when we got there the mechanics had left for the night. Wendell then towed the car to Wildwood, found us a motel, and dropped the car off at a local garage where he knew the owners. His bill for the several hours he spent with us was only $35.00. Safe for the night and fed from vending machines, my family slept while I sat up all night worrying about the car and how much it would cost to repair. At first light I was waiting for the garage to open. When it did, the mechanic got right on his diagnostic process. Wendell stopped by in his pickup truck to see how things were going. It turns out the head had developed a leak, allowed antifreeze into the engine which now required an overhaul. Since it was an Audi and it was 1976, the closest place to repair it was in Orlando, fifty miles away. All I could think about was a very expensive wrecker bill and a more expensive repair. Wendell kindly went and borrowed a small car trailer, cut a hole in his step bumper to allow the towing ball, loaded the car on the trailer and took all of us, and the car, to the Audi dealer in Orlando. My wife and kids rode in his truck's front seat while I rode in the car on the trailer, still upset, wondering how I would pay him when we got to Orlando. When Wendell unloaded the car, to our amazement, he gave the kids a hug, refused to take even gas money, simply wished us a Merry Christmas and drove off towards Wildwood. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: ____________________________________________________________________ TRP| | |DBL| | | |TRP| | | |DBL| | |TRP| WRD|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|WRD| |DBL| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |DBL| | ____|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___| | |DBL| | | |DBL| |DBL| | | |DBL| | | ____|___|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___|___| DBL| | |DBL| | | |DBL| | | |DBL| | |DBL| LTR|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|LTR| | | | |DBL| | | | | |DBL| | | | | ____|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|___| |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | ____|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___| | |DBL| | | |DBL| |DBL| | | |DBL| | | ____|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___| TRP| | |DBL| | | |***| | | |DBL| | |TRP| WRD|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|***|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|WRD| | |DBL| | | |DBL| |DBL| | | |DBL| | | ____|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___| |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | ____|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___| | | | |DBL| | | | | |DBL| | | | | ____|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|___| DBL| | |DBL| | | |DBL| | | |DBL| | |DBL| LTR|___|___|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___|___|LTR| | |DBL| | | |DBL| |DBL| | | |DBL| | | ____|___|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___|___| |DBL| | | |TRP| | | |TRP| | | |DBL| | ____|WRD|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRD|___| TRP| | |DBL| | | |TRP| | | |DBL| | |TRP| WRD|___|___|LTR|___|___|___|WRS|___|___|___|LTR|___|___|WRD| Sue Teves >FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY Adriana, 7, was playing Scrabble with her mother Irma.
