Friendship & More ... :) Shangy!
>Bowled Over by Kindness Story Editor:
by Mia Shinbrot Joyce Schowalter
British Columbia, Canada
My old desk chair slanted forward and to the left from many, many years
of use by the summer of 2004. I'd been badly in need of a new desk chair
for some time and looking for one I could afford. I don't have much
money, so that limits what I can buy.
I tried second-hand stores but never found anything that was right for
me. My physical limitations mean that the vast majority of chairs cause
me problems of one sort or another.
One week in August my friend Celu pointed out that a particular store
was advertising in its sale flyer that they had a "leather" executive
chair for $70 as part of their back-to-school sale.
I went to the store on a Saturday to see it. I couldn't find those
chairs, but a sympathetic clerk named Selena showed me that in fact
there were six or seven of them left -- disassembled in boxes.
I told her I needed to sit in a chair to work out whether it would work
for me. She offered to have one of the men in the back assemble one for
me if I could come back on Sunday. I said Sunday is fine, but I might
still not buy the chair if it wasn't right. She said no problem; they
needed a floor model anyway. (That left the point that if I *did* buy
it, they'd still have no floor model.)
I went back on Sunday. I decided that though not perfect, the chair
would do. For $300 I would have been fussier; for $70 it was remarkable
value.
I took it through the register where the same clerk was working to pay
for it and asked if the store had delivery. Selena wasn't aware of any,
but a man who was passing said it could be arranged by asking a manager
to arrange it with the receiving department.
The clerk phoned the manager from the till. He asked her to ask me where
I lived. As soon as I said "Esquimalt" she told him never mind and
turned to me to say, "I live in Esquimalt and I have a truck. I'll
deliver it for you when I get off work." That was going to be in about
15 minutes from that moment.
I had other errands to do and was just about to think of a way I could
be home when she delivered the chair, when she said, "Go on about your
errands and just phone me whenever you get home." I left the store
almost in tears from her kindness.
I finished errands, got home, phoned her, and she delivered the chair.
It's not perfect, but with a cushion I've made it work. Selena's
kindness above and beyond the call of duty is something I'll never,
ever forget.

Good Morning !!!!
This morning when I wakened
And saw the sun above,
I softly said, "Good morning, Lord,
Bless everyone I love"
Right away I thought of you
And said a loving prayer,
That He would bless you specially,
And keep you free from care.
I thought of all the happiness
A day could hold in store,
I wished it all for you because
No one deserves it more.
I felt so warm and good inside,
My heart was all aglow.
I know God heard my prayers for you,
He hears them all, you know.
You have two choices... smile and close this page
Or pass this along to someone else to spread the good feelings .

... YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT ...
Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but
your waiter may know!
YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH
This is pretty neat.
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read ..
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to
go out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757 ....
If you haven't, add 1756.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number
The first digit of this was your original number
(I.e., how! Many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2007) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND
WHILE IT LASTS
----
...This must be a math trick as it worked for me and my daughter too!
Pretty Cool!

Does Divorce After a Short Marriage Guarantee Later Bliss?
By NATASHA HAYNES-SMITH
NEW YORK, March 24, 2007 — Julia Roberts has done it. So has Jennifer
Garner. And first lady wannabe Judy Giuliani has done it too. It's
not plastic surgery or a diet fad. It's something that more and more
Americans are doing — starter marriages, which last less than five
years and produce no children.
This week, the wife of Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani
told reporters his wife has been married three times, not twice as
previously reported. Her first marriage was a union that began at a
Las Vegas chapel in 1974 and ended five years later, the year she
married her second husband. Published reports said the former New
York City mayor knew all about it and that there aren't secrets
between the two.
So What's a Starter Marriage?
The famous faces aren't the only ones with starter marriages.
According to the 2002 book, "The Starter Marriage and the Future of
Matrimony," starter marriages are most common among Generation X.
Although they are marrying later than their parents, the divorce rate
among them is just as high as the generation before. The difference
now, according the book's author, Patricia Paul, is that starter
marriages are often seen like starter homes: You know that you'll
soon outgrow it and need an upgrade.
As part of her research, Paul interviewed 60 American women. They
were mostly white, middle class and college educated, and had been
married in their 20s for five years or less. The women seemed to have
it all — great careers, homes and friends, and often felt that
marriage was the next thing they need to mark off on their "to do"
lists.
"Our biological time line, peer pressure, family pressure, often
causes us to solidify a relationship that might not need to be
solidified," said Rachel Sussman, a marriage and family therapist.
She added that when young people marry because of this societal
pressure, it's often not enough to make a relationship work.
So they divorce.
And they are not alone.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, most first marriages that end in
divorce end by the eighth year of the union. That may not be
surprising, but what may be is that second marriages often don't last
much longer.
So What's the Big Deal?
In a culture that's so accepting of divorce, why do people have a
hard time fessing up?
"There's terrible shame when a marriage ends in divorce early on for
a young person … especially within in five years," said Sussman. "You
feel such a sense of failure."
Sussman believes people should admit to a previous marriage as early
as three months into a new relationship.
But other relationship experts are more concerned about other secrets
people keep from potential spouses — like drug abuse, financial
problems and health issues.
"Any secret or untruth in a relationship is going to cause problems,"
said Diane Kaminsky, a therapist in New York City. "Corrosion of
trust in a relationship is hard to repair."
Heading down the Aisle … Again
So what if you've told your mate about your past marriage and you
want to head down the aisle again? There's good news and bad news.
"Second marriages have the least chance of lasting," said Emma K.
Viglucci, a licensed marriage and family therapist.
She said third marriages often last longer because people are
determined to get it right — finally. So maybe starter marriages are
a good thing.
Rudy and Judy are both on their third marriages, so maybe the third
time is a charm.

"The Easter story is nothing but a myth," Jimmy's high school
science teacher announced to his class a few days before Easter
break. "Jesus not only didn't rise from the grave," he continued,
"but there's no God in heaven who would allow his son to be
crucified in the first place."
"Sir, I believe in God," Jimmy protested. "And I believe in the
resurrection!"
"Jimmy, you can believe what you wish to, of course," the teacher
replied. "However, the real world excludes the possibility of
miraculous events such as the resurrection. The resurrection is a
scientific impossibility. No one who believes in miracles can also
respect science."
"God isn't limited by science," Jimmy responded. "He created
science!"
Engaged by Jimmy's outspoken faith, the teacher proposed a
scientific experiment. Reaching into his refrigerator, he produced
a raw egg and held it up. "I'm going to drop this egg on the
floor," he stated. "Gravity will pull it toward the floor with
such force that the egg will most certainly break."
Fixing Jimmy with a look of challenge, he concluded his proposal.
"Now Jimmy, I want you to pray a prayer right now and ask your God
to keep this egg from breaking when it hits the floor. If he can
do that, then you'll have proven your point, and I'll have to
admit that there's a God."
After pondering the challenge for a moment, Jimmy slowly stood to
pray. "Dear Heavenly Father," he began. "I pray that when my
teacher drops the egg... it will break into a hundred pieces! And
also, Lord, I pray that when the egg does break, my teacher will
have a heart attack and die! Amen."
After a unison gasp, the stunned class sat in silent expectation.
For a moment the teacher did nothing. At last he looked at Jimmy
and then at the egg. Without a word he carefully put the egg back
in the refrigerator. "Class dismissed," the teacher said and sat
down to clear his desk.
The teacher apparently believed in God more than he thought he
did. Many people, like that teacher, deny that God exists, yet
they run from him, question him, and attack him whenever they get
the chance. Jimmy knew God wouldn't strike his teacher dead, but
he also knew that his teacher wouldn't bet his life on it. As the
old saying goes, "There are no atheists in foxholes." When your
life is on the line, the idea of God suddenly makes a lot more
sense.
When Christ is out of order, or way down on your priority list,
your whole life is upside down -Billy Graham
---
...Just goes to show - You do not test God ...
Matthew 4: 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt
not tempt the Lord thy God.
Galatians 6: 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever
a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

>DOES MY PREACHER preach some of God's Word of the Sum of God's Word...?
When preachers preach on first principles but fail to preach on moral
issues, they are preaching some, but not the sum of God's Word. When
preachers preach on the love, grace, and mercy of God, while never
bothering to mention His holiness and severity (Rom. 11:22), they are
preaching some of God's Word but not the sum of God's Word. Likewise,
when preacher's focus exclusively on "doctrinal" preaching while failing
to address the subjects of brotherly love, grief, overcoming
discouragement, joy in Christ, security in Christ and forgiveness, etc.,
they are preachers of some of God's Word, but not the sum of God's Word.
And finally, when Church leaders muzzle the preacher from preaching on
certain controversial issues they are showing respect for some of God's
Word, but not the sum of God's Word.
Paul did not shrink from declaring the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27;
2 Tim. 4:2-4). We are to do no less! Are you embracing just some of
the Word, or the sum of God's Word? (BJ Clarke)
I HAVE LEARNED ...
To be true to myself and my own beliefs.
Sometimes the "right" people are simply the "wrong" people. People
aren't always what they seem.
Not to be so eager to please other people that I wind up hurting or
displeasing myself.
That no matter how hard someone wants me to be like them - I am not - I
am one of a kind - unique.
Never to betray all that I hold dear - just to make another person happy
with me or proud of me.
Not to listen to every other voice, and then not take time to listen to
my own.
If 100 people say "YES", and I say, "NO" Then the decision must and will
be "NO."
Never to place someone else's happiness above my own - at the expense of
my own.
Never try to take the easy way out. There is NO easy way out.
A bad decision made in haste can't ever be changed, or wished away. It
will never be forgotten, but it can be forgiven.
Temptation comes in all shapes and sizes, and is often disguised as "truth".
Not to be ashamed of my failures. The only time I fail is if I haven't
learned from my mistakes - or if it is the last time I try.
There is no benefit on focusing on past mistakes - I can't change them.
Prepare today. Look forward to tomorrow.
There is no benefit by worrying about the future - nobody knows what
lies ahead.
Time spent regretting my past, or worrying about my future robs me of
all of my todays.
A good habit is just as easy to learn as a bad habit.
To treat others with compassion, and respect those who have earned that
respect.
Children are little treasures to be cherished. Teach them love and
tolerance - for our children are our future.
My first responsibility is to be true to myself - in every way. (that's
a hard one)
When I finally get fed up with all the insanity - that is when it will
end.
All my answers are inside of me - I am the only one who owns them.
I will never truly be happy until I am at peace with myself and my life.
Happiness can be mine - if I only let it inside. Accept it. It is within
me now.
If I am always speaking - I will never hear the message.
Only the Strong Survive - I AM a Survivor!

...I've got a soft spot for old Abe :)
Many of us have heard the story about Abraham Lincoln. He was defeated
seven times for elective office before winning the Presidency of the
United States. He certainly defied the odds. And he did not give up.

Then there was Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh earned all of $85 from his
paintings during his lifetime. One hundred years after his death, just
one painting alone, Dr. Bachet, sold for the incredible sum of $82.5
million.
Then there was this itinerant, Middle Eastern preacher who lived some
2,000 years ago -- his ideas were definitely rejected by the people of
his hometown, as well as the religious leaders of his time and country.
Yet he continued his ministry as he understood it to be -- Devine
Defiance?
The point is clear. If Abraham Lincoln, Vincent van Gogh, or Jesus of
Nazareth had let rejection rule their lives, and let it keep them from
doing and saying what they felt sure to be right -- our world would be
incredibly impoverished today.
