The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table. As I looked around I saw the "prosecutor." He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen. I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me, I felt I knew Him. The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn't take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, "Let us begin." The prosecutor rose and said, "My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this sinner belongs in hell." He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole, and in the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horrible perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done? Satan finished with a fury and said, "This sinner belongs in hell, and is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise." When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my personal Savior. He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, "Hi, Father," and then He turned to address the court. "Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations.. And, yes, the wages of sin is death, and this sinner deserves to be punished." Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His God and Father with out stretched arms and proclaimed, "However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine." My Lord continued with, "His name is written in the book of life and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy." As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said, "There is nothing else that needs to be done. I've done it all." The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words resounded from His lips... "This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. Case dismissed." As my Lord embraced me and led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, "I won't give up, I will win the next one." I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, "Have you ever lost a case?" Christ lovingly smiled and said, "Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, "PAID IN FULL." =======HeartWarming======= >-->From HeartWarmers: .---------. _ |:: [-=-] | | | |_________| |~| |_| ,;;;;, I\ ,__ ,;;;, __, ///\\\\\ I |{ / . . \ } / " \\|| I | ) ( _ ) ( \_= _/// I |{___'-. .-'___}\___ )_\ I ||~/,'~~~~~,\~~|'---(( \ I \ // \\ | \ \ \ I \/ // | | /-/ I (/ (/ | |/||\ I | | | | I | | |____/ I :-----_o_-----: || | I | /~~|===|~~\ | (( | jgs I || |===| || ||_/ /^\ "~ '^^^' "" ((__| >ONE IN A MILLION by Diane LoDuca I was in the hospital recovering from surgery, which had removed my adrenal gland and the cancerous tumor that had invaded it. Although everyone has two of these glands, one is sufficient to maintain life's functions. It was expected that the shock of surgery might render that gland temporarily inactive. A week of a daily dose of hydrocortisone would produce the desired effect. That week passed, and the medication was being withdrawn. The remaining gland should have resumed functioning. I thought of events that led to my surgery and how I first learned of the tumor. I had been assured cancer was not expected. The doctor said it was extremely rare to strike that area, so rare, he called it a "one in a million chance." The numbers may have been exaggerated, but I never expected it to be my fate, nor did I expect the news to be relayed in the manner in which it came. The pathology report was in, and Dr. Lund was making rounds. Hearing voices in the hall, I rose to my feet and walked to the hallway. Looking out, I could see that he and his interns had just entered the room of another patient, and soon he would be here. Nervous, afraid, but hopeful, I thought of his words, "one in a million chance." The rarity of the number was in my favor. Someone approached my room! My heartbeat quickened, but to my disappointment, it was a woman carrying my lunch tray. I stared at the tray but had no desire to lift the cover. Waiting continued until finally he and his interns entered my room. He looked at me, noticed the lunch tray and said, "Go ahead and eat. I'll be back." "What?" I asked in astonishment, "Don't go, come back." Instead of facing me, he headed for the door. The interns followed in quick pursuit. Rising to my feet, I tried to follow. I thought I might catch up, demanding an explanation. It was too late. He had already entered the room of his next patient. I went back to my room and shoved the lunch tray out of the way as the table wheels whirled across the room hitting the wall. I waited for his return, after he had seen all his other patients. He confirmed what I already knew. It was cancer. I was that "one in a million" person. After he left, thoughts raced through my mind... I was overwhelmed with an intense feeling of impending death. I was young, had small children, a husband, and parents, who would be devastated. I regretted having to leave them, but I accepted this was inevitable. Not even considering calling the nurse for help, I felt the need to make it known. "I am going to die today." Responding to the shock of these words, my roommate rang for the nurse, who in turn called the doctors. Things became hazy. I felt as if I drifted in space. I heard, "Quick, she needs hydrocortisone." My life had become a constant series of trials, and none of it made sense. I could not understand what had happened or why I had been so sure of death. I was fearful that I was losing my mind. I had always prayed, especially throughout the ordeal of my illness. I continually appealed to God for help. Help came from Dr. Osgood, one of Dr. Lund's interns. In desperation, I expressed concerns about losing my mind. He was sympathetic and troubled at what I had endured. He reassured me nothing was wrong with my mind. He confirmed and explained my condition. I had suffered a severe adrenal crisis. The existing gland had not functioned as expected. I had Addison Disease. WIthout hydrocortisone, it would be a life threatening disease. Since then I have been on a daily regime of this medicine that must continue to sustain my life. Months later, a test confirmed the presence of a cancerous tumor in the other gland, explaining why it had not functioned. I took chemotherapy for many years. That "one in a million chance" occurred twice -- once in one gland, again in the other -- but then, I became a "one in a two million chance" survivor. Dr. Lund passed away and Dr. Osgood is my physician now. I see him twice yearly, and he confirms how amazing my survival was. He calls it a miracle. I know he is right. Then I ask, "Are there any more survivors?" For a long time the answer was no. Now a few, although small in number, have survived. In time, I came to understand the meaning of the premonition of my death, and how it did come to save my life. It had been brought from God or through the angel He sent to guide me. In spite of the fact that I was not expected to survive this extremely rare condition, God continued to preserve my life. Now, thirty years later, I remain in awe and thankful of His goodness. -- Diane LoDuca ___________________________________________ Diane is a wife, mother, and grandmother living in Sterling Heights, Michigan. On walls, on furniture, on door knobs, dishes and books. As we touch we leave our identity. "Oh [God] please wherever I go today... help me leave heartprints--heartprints of compassion, understanding and love. Heartprints of kindness and genuine concern. "May my heart touch a lonely neighbor, or a runaway daughter, or an anxious mother, or perhaps a dear friend! "I shall go out today to leave heartprints, and if some one should say, 'I felt your touch,' may that sense be your loving touch through me!"2 Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me today and every day so that my life will reflect your likeness so that the people I rub shoulders with will see your love shining through me so that I will leave heartprints from you on them. Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."1 Mother Teresa once said, “Love cannot remain by itself - it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action and that action is service." The Bible is filled with verses about love... God’s love for us, our love for God, our love for others. However, regardless of the passage we are reading, the importance of loving one another is evident. God left no room for confusion when it comes to the importance of love. 1 Corinthians 13:2 says, "If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing." Wow. That sums it up well wouldn’t you say? God is love. Therefore, as we grow and mature in our relationship with the Lord, our lives should reflect his love to others, not just with our words, but with action. What are some simple, yet meaningful ways, that we can put love into action? It could be listening to a hurting friend, sharing a smile with a stranger, giving a compliment, being patient, or meeting a need for someone. My kids love carrying snacks in the car to share with anyone who may need them. This may be something simple, but it has taught me to be on the lookout and be aware of possible needs of those around me. When you listen to people’s stories, you hear their heart. If you ask God to give you discernment and help you respond according to His will, He will give you clarity on who you may be able to serve, and how to go about it. The important thing is that we invest the love we have received into the lives of others. Only then will we truly be able to experience God’s heart and see Him expand our “ministry". Whether that be at home with our spouse and families, our neighbors, our community, our church... let us constantly seek ways to love through action. Suggested prayer, “Dear God, I did nothing to earn your love, yet you freely gave it to me. I will never do enough to repay your love, yet it is unconditional and unwavering. I pray that you allow me to reflect your love with those you put in my life daily. Let my faith be tangible to others through your love in action. Give me discernment and lead me to those you would have me serve. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen." 1 John 3:17-18 (NIV). --- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' ...See these Teachings... One night when there was bombing and shelling happening all around the house where she and her sister lived, Corrie couldn't sleep. Hearing her sister in the kitchen, she decided to go down and join her. Long into the night after all the bombing ceased and all was silent, Corrie returned to her bed only to find that her pillow--right where her head lay--had been pierced with a sizable piece of sharp metal shrapnel from an exploding bomb! Going downstairs to the kitchen saved her life! She rushed to tell her sister saying, "Betsie, if I hadn't heard you in the kitchen . . . ." To this her saintly sister interrupted, "Don't say it, Corrie. There are no ifs in God's world. The center of his will is our safety." Later through terrible trying times in a Nazi prison, Miss Ten Boom was to learn over and over this marvelous truth: "God's will is our hiding place." Suggested prayer: "Dear God, I don't ask that you deliver me from the storms of life, but please help me to find deliverance in them. Hide me in the hollow of your hand, and in the shelter of your tabernacle, and set me high upon a rock. Gratefully in Jesus Christ's name. Amen." 1. Clenched in both hands were new jeans and a shirt belonging to my 16-year-old stepson, Brett. The clothing was already destroyed from burn holes and vomit stains after a drunken binge. Exhausted and defeated, I sank to the floor. The clothes were just one more thing Brett had ruined. He had already kicked a large hole in his bedroom wall; his bedcovers were torn. Numerous windows in our house needed repair due to his breaking in to steal money when he chose to live on the street. Yet none of this could compare to the emotional damage Brett had inflicted on our once quiet home. I knew that Brett's needs were deep, and I had often prayed for wisdom and love. The second greatest commandment, "You shall love your neighbor (close ones) as yourself," had taken on new meaning when Brett came to live with us when he was 12 years old. If I were to love my neighbor (close one) , was I not to love my own troubled stepson even more? During those four years I had dealt with Brett as patiently as possible, but inside I was churning. "I don't want him in my house another day, Lord," I cried as I knelt on the laundry room floor. "I just can't stand him!" Chest heaving, I poured out my despair. Then God tenderly spoke to me in my weakness. Matthew 25:35-40 rose in my thoughts---Jesus' declaration that when we invite a stranger, feed the hungry, clothe the naked or visit those in prison, we are doing it as unto Him. For the first time I saw this story in light of the action words. Jesus was saying, "Act. Meet these people's needs. Through your actions you are loving them and Me." God's encouragement to me that day helped me to gather strength and continue parenting Brett. Still, Brett did not change his behavior. When Brett was nearly 18, he landed again in Juvenile Hall, this time on suicide watch. Through prayer, my husband, Dave, and I sensed God's leading to send Brett to a boarding school with a high success rate for helping troubled teens. The psychological training at Brett's school was rigorous. Out of more than 20 people in his class, Brett was one of only five graduates. At the graduation ceremony the graduates stood one by one to thank those who had helped them. Each graduate held a long-stemmed, white rosebud to give to the person who had meant the most to him or her. Brett spoke lovingly to his mother and father and for the first time took responsibility for the heartaches he had caused. Finally Brett spoke to me. "You did so much," he said. "You were always there, no matter what. My mom and dad, I was their kid. But you just got stuck with me. All the same you always showed me such love. And I want you to know that I love you for it." Stunned, I stood as Brett placed the white rosebud in my hand and hugged me hard. At that moment I realized the truth in God's words to me. Although I had struggled with silent anger toward my stepson, Brett had seen only my actions. Love is action. We may not always have positive feelings about certain people in our lives. But we can love them. - Sally Arnett --- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' ...See This Teaching... I wasn't hungry. The pain of losing my husband of 37 years was still too raw. And this grocery store held so many sweet memories. Rudy often came with me and almost every time he'd pretend to go off and look for something special. I knew what he was up to. I'd always spot him walking down the aisle with the three yellow roses in his hands. Rudy knew I loved yellow roses. With a heart filled with grief, I only wanted to buy my few items and leave, but even grocery shopping was different since Rudy had passed on. Shopping for one took time, a little more thought than it had for two. Standing by the meat, I searched for the perfect small steak and remembered how Rudy had loved his steak. Suddenly a woman came beside me. She was blond, slim and lovely in a soft green pantsuit. I watched as she picked up a large pack of T-bones, dropped them in her basket, hesitated, and then put them back. She turned to go and once again reached for the pack of steaks. She saw me watching her and she smiled. "My husband loves T-bones, but honestly, at these prices, I don't know." I swallowed the emotion down my throat and met her pale blue eyes. "My husband passed away eight days ago," I told her. Glancing at the package in her hands, I fought to control the tremble in my voice. "Buy him the steaks. And cherish every moment you have together." She shook her head and I saw the emotion in her eyes as she placed the package in her basket and wheeled away. I turned and pushed my cart across the length of the store to the dairy products. There I stood, trying to decide which size milk I should buy. A quart, I finally decided and moved on to the ice cream section near the front of the store. If nothing else, I could always fix myself an ice cream cone. I placed the ice cream in my cart and looked down the aisle toward the front. I saw first the green suit, then recognized the pretty lady coming towards me. In her arms she carried a package. On her face was the brightest smile I had ever seen. I would swear a soft halo encircled her blond hair as she kept walking toward me, her eyes holding mine. As she came closer, I saw what she held and tears began misting inmy eyes. "These are for you," she said and placed three beautiful long stemmed yellow roses in my arms. "When you go through the line, they will know these are paid for." She leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, then smiled again. I wanted to tell her what she'd done, what the roses meant, but still unable to speak, I watched as she walked away as tears clouded my vision. I looked down at the beautiful roses nestled in the green tissue wrapping and found it almost unreal. How did she know? Suddenly the answer seemed so clear. I wasn't alone. "Oh, Rudy, you haven't forgotten me, have you?" I whispered, with tears in my eyes. He was still with me, and she was his angel. --- ...God knows and Love acts. -<>- __ /_/\/\ \_\ / /_/ \ \_\/\ \ \_\/ unknown Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. I had always yearned to go on a mission myself, so I offered to join her. I didn't know what would be involved, or what the people and culture would be like, so I researched the country before leaving. Ecuador is full of friendly people. I worked hard lugging pharmacy totes full of prescriptions to and from the bus each day for two weeks, usually to a different rural village. We provided lots of vitamins, analgesics, parasite remedies, blood pressure medication, antibiotics, and medicines for diabetics. The people we served otherwise would not have been able to afford them. I also carried small items in my purse to give away. After we finished our work in a village one day, we waited for the bus to drive us back for a well-deserved shower and supper. As we waited, a friend and I decided to go for a little walk within sight of the others. A young man with cerebral palsy greeted me. Though slightly scared, I returned his greeting. He looked like he needed a comb, so I took one from my purse and gave it to him. He looked so pleased and excited that I thought he might call out the entire neighbourhood. Then he asked me to wait as he went into his modest home. His mother peeked out at us. I wondered what he would do. Now it was my turn to be surprised; he came out with a large bunch of bananas. I said "muchas gracias" and indicated that I was grateful to him and his family. To me, the comb was just one of many I handed out in a day, something we take for granted back home. In exchange for such a little thing, I received a truly generous gift. It was so hot that I knew the bananas wouldn't keep long. I had to figure out how to use them or give them away. Then I thought of the shoeshine guys along the street. They only make 75 cents per pair, and work hard in the hot sun to make shoes look as good as new. I walked down the street with an arm full of bananas, handing them out to everyone. It was gratifying, something I will always remember. I went on the mission to help make the world a better place and improve the quality of life for the people I'd meet. Starting with just his friendly greeting, this young man helped me share good feelings with so many people. He made my heart a better place. =======HeroicStories======= How to help someone else make THEIR HEART a Better Place... >-->From SermondFodder: , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' 10. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time. This story teaches two lessons: 1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day. 2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. May we take the time to encourage another this day. --- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' ...See These Great Teachings... Oreo had been outside for a while and began meowing because he wanted to come in. I opened the door and waited, but he did not come in! He stopped and lowered his head suspiciously, as if I were a deadly enemy. "Come on, Oreo," I said impatiently. He sat down thoughtfully and began to wash his face. "Oreo," I said, "I give you food, and I supply all your needs. If you do anything in return, I don't know what it is.. Now I'm personally inviting you into my home. Please come in." Oreo put one foot across the threshold, then drew it back. He turned to look out across the yard with some remote, unfathomable expression, and he didn't come in. "Oreo," I said, "I'm not going to stand here forever. If you don't come in, I'm going to close this door. This is your last chance!" ________ / ______ \ || _ _ || ||| || ||| |||_||_||| || _ _o|| (o) ||| || ||| |||_||_||| ^~^ , ||______|| ('Y') ) /__________\ / \/ ________|__________|__ (\|||/) _________ hjw /____________\ `97 |____________| I started to slowly close the door. Did he come in? No, he sat there exercising his free will or something. He'd come in when it suited him and not before. He figured I'd be patient. So far, he's always been right. God made cats, He also made people. I wonder how He feels when He stands at the door and waits ... and waits ...and waits I think I know. --- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' ...See this teaching...
