Motley About 30 years ago the only law enforcement in Miller, Missouri, was Marshall Shorty Johnson. He arrived in town from parts unknown when he was about 65 years old. He was about 5' 8", a slow moving, grey haired man. He lived in a small house one block from Main Street that he rented from a "widow lady." I think it had once been a one car garage. Shorty mowed lawns and ran errands for the local elderly ladies. There were plenty of widows who needed help. He could be found every afternoon, taking a nap, his chin on his chest, sitting in a metal lawn chair near the cash register in the one and only grocery store, Avon's. Shorty did not own a car but paroled on his riding lawn mower. It was rumored that he only carried one bullet. That was OK because there's very little crime in Miller, except for the time two robbers held up the Miller Bank located on Main Street in broad daylight. Marshall Shorty was walking into the bank as they were running out. While plotting their crime the thieves forgot one important thing -- they forgot to buy gas for their get-away car. The day of the great bank heist Gary and I were visiting my parents in Everton, a nearby small town with a population of about 400. News travels fast in small towns. Someone called my mom a few minutes after the robbery with the news. Mother was told the robbers were headed in our direction towards Springfield, the closest large town. Everyone stood in their yards waiting to see them go by. The only thing we saw was local farmers driving slowly by in their pick up trucks. Gary, being an AP reporter, and I drove to Miller to get details. When we got there we were told the robbers had run out of gas just a few miles out of town. They jumped out of their car and were hiding in the nearby woods. Various law enforcement agencies were hunting for them. I always liked to see all the action, so Gary and I drove out to the site of the hunt. It was dark by the time we got there. Gary got out of the car, locked his door, told me to stay in the car, and keep my door locked. I sat there alone in the darkness. About ten minutes later I heard someone walking in the gravel, getting closer to me all the time. It was so dark I couldn't see them! Someone reached their hand into the car and unlocked the door. It was Gary! He had forgotten to roll up his window. He scared me half to death. The bank robbers were captured the next morning walking on the highway hitching a ride. They were soaking wet, tired, hungry. They had spent the night before hiding in the woods in pouring down rain. They made one more mistake. They had hitched a ride with a highway patrolman. He was glad to give them a ride to jail. -- Mary L. Within a few days the whole community knew the story. The person it concerned was deeply hurt and offended. Later the woman responsible for spreading the rumor learned that it was completely untrue. She was very sorry and went to a wise old man to find out what she could do to repair the damage. "Go to the marketplace," he said, "and purchase a chicken, and have it killed. Then on your way home, pluck its feathers and drop them one by one along the road." Although surprised by this advice, the woman did what she was told. The next day the wise man said, "Now go and collect all those feathers you dropped yesterday and bring them back to me." The woman followed the same road, but to her dismay, the wind had blown the feathers all away. After searching for hours, she returned with only three in her hand. "You see," said the old man, "it's easy to drop them, but it's impossible to get them back. So it is with gossip. It doesn't take much to spread a rumor, but once you do, you can never completely undo the wrong." --- ...Good one to think about! Thanks LouiseAu! The latest they say is he advocated a hit on Hillary! http://eheadlines.com/nra-circles-the-wagons-around-trump/ Trump was simply talking about how things normally work in America. He was saying the gun advocates would protest and rally against anyone taking away our 2nd Amendment rights and wouldn't let it go down without a fight. Trump claims he is going to be the Law and Order candidate so surely wouldn't have said that about her. The left has to focus the news off of Hillary because people will see she has nothing to offer our great Nation but more decline like what we've had under Obama. She's just more of the same. Just like them saying he called all Mexicans rapist and murderers when he was speaking only of the many who cross the border who are illegally in our country committing felons here. With an open border, you get all manner of people coming in to cause the innocent American citizens trouble. Why should we put up with that? This is our home and country. We live here and have a right to have law and order and safety for our selves, our children and our children's children. Yet the left says such talk makes Trump a bigot. Perhaps you could use this feeling of warmth and centeredness to spread love to everyone you come across. As you go about your day you can try to give everyone— people you know and strangers—a smile that comes from your heart. You could imagine that from deep within your heart a warm light emanates that expands with each smile you offer. You may notice that this keeps you in an affable mood throughout the day no matter who or what you may encounter. Giving a smile to everyone around us allows us to extend our feelings of love to others. Sometimes when we feel amiable, it is easy to only be kind to the people we know and care about and avoid people that we have neutral or unpleasant feelings toward. But learning the art of the unconditional smile lets us train ourselves to see everyone in the same light. We begin to understand the meaning of true love by not excluding others, which helps us see that within this layer of love we can trust everyone. By being friendly to the all people you meet, you will be able to express affection unconditionally. -<>- @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@,""""""@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@"- "@@@@@@@@@@ "@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@( ^^^ )@@@@@@@@@ ' @@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@( ( 0@@@@@@@@@, (@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@) ) _/@@@@@@@@@@@m "@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@(__/ (@@@@@@@@@@@@@' @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@" )@@@@@@@@@@' @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@' \@@@@@@@@' @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@' )@@@@@@' A @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@ ,@@@@@@@" /@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@, @_____" =, @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@ :',@@@@ `@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@' @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ M@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@' `@@@@@@@@@@@@@" ,@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@" / @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@" @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@| @@@@@@@@@@" / @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@| @@@@@@@@@" ," .@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@| @@@@@@@@' .@@ `@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@| @@@@@@@@m `@@@, @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@| :@@@@@@@@@m )@@. )@@@@@@@@ unknown >TRUE LOVE I'm not sure I can always tell love from passion. One father said of his teenaged son, "I don't know if he's in love or in heat!" What teenager would know? Besides, feelings of attraction can change more quickly than a pouty expression. But love, in its truest form, is greater than feelings. It is as much a decision as it is a feeling. Love is what Mr. and Mrs. Strauss shared. Mrs. Isadore Strauss was one of the few first class women passengers to go down with the Titanic in 1912, and she drowned because she could not bear to leave her husband. They remained calm throughout the excitement of the sinking vessel. They both aided frightened women and children to find places aboard lifeboats. Finally, Mr. Strauss, who had repeatedly urged his wife to claim a spot safely aboard a lifeboat, forced her to enter one. She was seated but a moment, however, when she sprang up and climbed back on deck before he could stop her. There, she caught his arm, snuggling it familiarly against her side, and exclaimed, "We have been long together for a great many years. We are old now. Where you go, I will go." Where you go, I will go. It is a decision to be together, come what may. I suspect she said something like that to him many times before. Maybe the words she used were different, but the meaning was the same. I want to be with you. Let's do this together. Where you go, I will go. It's a decision to love. It is deciding to be there, wherever "there" may be. It is a decision to sacrifice, if sacrifice is needed. And it is choosing to re-decide it all over again tomorrow and the next day and the next. As the ship sank beneath icy water on that cold and dark, April night, the Strausses merely re-made a decision they had made many times before throughout their life together. They decided on each other. Where you go, I will go. At the heart of true love is often a decision, made again and again, to face the next day together... hand in hand. by Steve Goodier -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: The Bible!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thebible.html Advice For Living!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/advice.html Thank You Lord!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thanks.html Playing With Words!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wordplay.html Sand Sculpture Art 3!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/sandart3.html Tale Of Two Swallows!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/swallows.html Attitude Is Everything 5!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude5.html Christ's Bell!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bell.html Dreamy Ladies!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/dreamy.html What Is Love 3!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wlove3.html Walk With Jesus!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/walk.html -<>- >From our friend PatDeE :) Lefty Students: We Don't Want White Roommates, It's In The Interest of Self-Preservation http://tinyurl.com/jfrhpem --- ...Getting really sad. I've heard he talks loudly, disrupts the class with bursts of negative comments, and doesn't participate in groups. He also stands out as the tallest, with the most mature body. Other parents tell his mother they're scared of him. Yet he's never been physically aggressive. In fact, he's hypersensitive to touch. I'll call him "Joe". Most parents and kids don't know Joe has Asperger's Syndrome. People with Asperger's must learn about socially appropriate behaviors, somehow their brains don't have it wired in like most of us. It's very hard for Joe to regulate his social behavior. He's worked hard since second grade. He has friends who support him with cues and comments, and has come a long way. Joe's in the highest-level math and reading classes. He wants to be on a school activity committee, but parent volunteers refuse him. They don't know he realizes he's an outcast, and works hard fit into the school's social networks. I wish those parents had seen Joe walking home from school one cold winter day in January 2007. Driving by, I saw him run and kneel down by a little girl lying on the ground. Joe brushed hair from her eyes and smiled. She smiled back through tears, having slipped and fallen on the ice. Joe took off his coat and spread it out, then helped her move to sit on it. He gathered her belongings from four feet away, putting them by her on his coat. He wiped snow from her knees and hands, turning her hands front and back to check for injury. He helped put her hat back on. Then he helped her up, took her hand and walked her home. He carried her pack, then rang her doorbell. Her sister rushed her inside, but the little girl smiled back at Joe. He set her pack down by the door, and walked home smiling. I stopped by Joe's house later. I asked to talk to him and his mother looked worried. When I said, I want to compliment him, she looked so relieved. I told Joe that I'd seen him help a little girl today, and that I didn't get out of my car because he had everything under control. I told him he handled the emergency perfectly and I thought he was a hero. I saw Joe's beautiful smile again. His mom cried as she showed me to the door. We stepped outside and she sobbed because it was so rare for Joe to show compassion and to be acknowledged in a positive way. I cried because Joe's mother worries so much about his future and the challenges he faces from society. We cried together for all the "adults" in Joes' life who assume he's a bad kid. Please, take today to look at a "bad kid" a little differently, and somehow acknowledge the good in them. It means so much. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Our Friend MohB :) We all know it is not easy to follow the following rules, but does it not make lots of sense - to unpack hatred from our lives - like rotten potatoes. The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes. Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates, so the number of potatoes that a child will put in his/her plastic bag will depend on the number of people he/she hates. So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she hated. Some had 2 potatoes; some 3 while some up to 5 potatoes. The teacher then told the children to carry with them the potatoes in the plastic bag wherever they go (even to the toilet) for 1 week. Day after day passed by, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out by the rotten potatoes. Besides, those having 5 potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After 1 week, the children were relieved because the game had finally ended. The teacher asked: "How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for 1 week?" The children let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go. Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said: "This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will contaminate your heart and you will carry it with you wherever you go. If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what is it like to have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime?" His dad put a piece of the ham pizza on Dylan's plate. Dylan looked at the pizza, began picking off the pieces of ham and explained, "I just don't want to get any of that 'nasty stuff.'" He was referring to the pizza sauce. -- Dennis Smith (Koen's and Dylan's PawPaw) of Oak Ridge, North Carolina Abbey, who turns 7 this month, has an expansive vocabulary... but she doesn't always use exactly the right words to convey her meaning. The other morning, after finding that the dog had chewed on one of her mom's dress shoes Abbey said, "Mom, I hate to be the bird of bad news (bearer of bad news), but Ruby ate your shoes." Another day, Abbey and her cousin Laine were watching Mike (Abbey's dad) park the riding lawn mower. Laine asked if the dogs could drive the tractor. Before Mike could answer Abbey responded, "Of course not! Dogs don't have supposable (opposable) thumbs." -- Lynn Walkup (mother of Abbey) of Garrett, Indiana .-----,,----------------------------------------,_ : ||---------------------------------------< `-._ : ||----------------------------------------> _D jgs : ||---------------------------------------< _.-' `-----``----------------------------------------' The little 3-year-old girl across the street was playing with TerryAnn's grand-daughter the other day. TerryAnn asked her how her dad was feeling as he had been sick. She told TerryAnn he was fine and that he was going to go to "beer" camp the next weekend he was off. (The 3-year-old meant deer camp!) -- TerryAnn Fielding of Brandon, Mississippi First grader Brianna was spending the night with her grandparents. They were talking and playing cards. The TV was on. A child in the show apparently wanted to stay home from school, so she was "playing" sick. Brianna looked at her grandma and said, "I've done that." Startled, her grandma asked, "What have you done?" "I pretended I was sick so I could stay home from school," she answered. "Brianna, how did you know to do that?" Giggling she said, "Well, Grandma, I do watch TV you know." -- Barbara Roney (grandmother of Brianna) of Portland, Oregon Lauren, 7, asked, "Mom, how old are you?" Her mother said, "I'm 43." Then Laura asked, "How old is Grandma A?" Her mother replied, "She's 64." Lauren said, "So.... Grandma's older than you." Her mother said, "Yes." Lauren said, "She doesn't LOOK older than you." Her mother replied, "YES, she does!" Lauren said, "Well, she's not taller than you." (So her mother guesses taller means older!) -- Tamara A. As Mom was sitting and trying to have some quiet time, Isaiah came running up, crying and complaining about his brother taking something from him. Mom sighed and said, "Just ignore Eli, he's just trying to get your goat." Isaiah turned and trotted out of the room. Mom was amazed that this explanation had seemed to work... until she heard Isaiah shriek "Eli, I want my goat back!" -- Tanya Redfield (mother of Isaiah and Elijah) of Minnesota Lake, Minnesota Ava, 2, her mom and grandmother were out taking a walk. Ava spotted some flowers and said, "Oh, Mama, look at those beautiful daisies! Her mother responded with, "Oh, Honey, those are actually marigolds." When they got back home, Ava ran to her grandfather and said, "Oh, Papa, we just saw the most beautiful ACTUALLY's!" -- Melody Taninies (friend of the family) of Ankeny, Iowa "Ouch!" Marie said. Her friend's child was visiting. The child had stuck her with a pin. "Why did you do that?" Marie asked. "We wanted to see the blood sales," the child said. "You mean blood cells?" Marie asked. "Yes!" the child replied. "It's not a sale going on," Marie said. "It's what it's called!" -- Marie of Rainbow City, Alabama Sam, 3, was sitting at the kitchen table with his baby brother, Gavin, 10 months, eating lunch. Gavin was trying to grab several things from Sam's plate. Sam said to his mother, "Gosh, Mom, Gavin needs some bug spray, he is bugging me!" -- Carrie (mother of three) of Indiana ///| ///| ///| ///| /// | //////// | /// | |=| ////| |=|///|=| ////| |=| | | |//// //| |===| |//// //| | | | |===|///| | | |===|///| | | | | |===| | | | |===| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | / jgs |=|===|===|=|===|=|===|===|=|/ ````````````````````````````` Chris told her two foster children, Dayton, 6, and Skyland, 5, to mind their manners while visiting relatives. She carefully went over the "do's" and "don't's" so that they would know how to behave. They had a tendency to be loud, rowdy and argumentative. The evening went well and Chris was quite impressed with the behavior and manners of the two children. They cheered from the sidelines while Chris's husband, James, won several games of pool. Out of 10 opponents only one beat him. Dayton and Skyland were excited as they cheered, "PaPa... you won again!" Chris was berating herself for being so apprehensive about the children remembering their manners. But then she was brought back to reality as they waved good-bye from their vehicle and Dayton stuck his head out the window and shouted, "Goodbye losers!" Cristina and her husband had been working with her son on doing things on his own ? cleaning his room, brushing his teeth, etc. One night they went out to dinner when Cristina was sick. Cristina's aunt, the family cut up, had been asking Cristina's son silly questions. He had lost his first baby tooth and Cristina's aunt asked him why. He thought a minute and said, "I don't brush my teeth very well." -- Cristina Ware of Rock Island, Tennessee Sally is a high school guidance counselor. Last spring she explained to 6-year-old Danyelle that her seniors were graduating and going to college. Danyelle asked: "Do you have to get another job?" She thought Sally wouldn't have any students left. -- Sally Morris (grandmother of Danyelle) of Wellington, Florida ___________________________________________ * * WINNING STORY * * This is the winning story for early summer. He was his usual fidgety self. One day while looking around during mass, he spotted the very large crucifix with the body of Jesus. At a particularly quiet part of the service, Ben yelled out, "Jump, Jesus, jump!!" His mother was horrified, but the other parishioners will remember that particular day with a smile. -- Melody Taninies (friend of Ben's mother) of Ankeny, Iowa Note: You are welcomed to use, copy and share these stories, but please reference http://www.funnykids.com as the source. ========================================================== ____ .-' '-. .' .-. '-E__C_E-' >-->Good Cents I have a jar up on my shelf It’s full as full can be. It sits beside some other jars, When counted, number three. These jars are filled with pennies and I doubt I’ll cash them in. I think I’ll start another jar; To stop, would be a sin. You see the value in the jars Is not their cash amount; Though pennies can be used to buy, When they are counted out. But when you know each penny’s worth And what they represent, You’ll know the value in each jar, And why it can’t be spent. You see each penny in the jars I’ve saved up on the shelf, Is there because I had a thought I value more than wealth. Each penny represents a thought, Each thought is clear and true. The pennies are the symbols of, The times I’ve thought of you. © James O’Brien June 2006 >Updated FUN STUFF URLS - Oh Yeah Shangy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/urls.html FUN URLS ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -->FULL LENGTH - FREE On line AUDIO MP3 Christian Foundational Class http://www.truthortradition.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=61 NEW LIFE IN CHRIST! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -->This is for all you who love food and DARE to make it at home Yep.
