I think I saw one the other day right in the middle of Costco. I know that is an unlikely place to see anything of an angelic nature. I'm not really sure I've ever seen an angel before -- maybe she wasn't but she sure acted like one. My husband and I found a handicapped parking place and made our way into the monster warehouse discount store -- a place where you can find anything in this world that you want. You can buy gigantic cans, boxes, and packages of food that go stale before two people can possible consume them and household items that come 3-4-6 wrapped in hard to remove plastic. You need a van to haul the stuff and a three car garage to store them in when you get home. It was a weekend, and of course everyone and their brother was there eating lunch. You think people really believe those cute little old ladies handing out samples don't recognize them the sixth time they come around snatching up freebies? They are the ones that never buy anything, they just rave about how good the product is as they sneak from lady to lady filling their bellies. Anyway we had our share and moved on. Of course, I was on my three wheel motorized scooter. I'm a little old lady myself (well, maybe not so little) and wheels are a necessity for me because I have MS. I must admit there are times it's not so bad being handicapped. I get envious looks and comments all the time especially in a place as large as Costco. Well, we spent more time looking around that day than we did buying or eating. We made our way toward the front where we headed for the cattle shoots or as some people call them, checkout lanes. We fell in line and a minute hadn't passed when I saw my husband eyeballing another line. I said, "Don't even think about it!" Bill used to spend more time lane hopping than sampling, until I caught on to his habit. About that time, a baby started crying as if it had been refused something it thought extremely necessary. You know, one of those screams that climbs up and down your spine. Well, it didn't stop. It just kept on and on, getting closer and closer. When I realized it was right behind me I turned, swiveling my seat around. There she was -- a little dark headed girl in her mother's arms. She was very unhappy, and neither her mother nor grandmother could satisfy what ailed her. Nothing they could say or do seemed to faze her in the least as she continued her shrill serenading. In the mist of all the commotion, I sat there wishing there was something I could do to help appease the little dark headed doll when along came an angel. She was a little old lady plainly dressed, walking with a cane. She walked right up to the mother and little brown headed girl and the crying immediately ceased. She began to talk soft and sweet in a low voice and touched her ever so gently. The baby smiled and reached out to finger the white headed halo that crowned the old lady's face. The encounter lasted for about 5 minutes and the child was in awe, as was I, watching God bring together love that spanned generations and celestial realms. No, I didn't see any wings or hear any music. There were no trumpets or harps playing. There were no bright lights or cosmic rays. But I did hear a soft voice, saw a shining smile as it lit up the face of a sweet little child, and witnessed a white headed angel using a cane as she delivered a message from God. Maybe what they say is true. You can find anything, in or out of this world, at Costco. -- Betty King ___________________________________________ Betty King is a Heartwarmer Gem and the author of It Takes Two Mountains to Make a Valley. [12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. [13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. He learned how to roll with the punches. He learned to be content or happy with whatever God gave him knowing that Christ was his strength to overcome any adversity that befell upon him. The Apostle Paul didn't lead an easy life! If you think being a Christian is supposed to be all a bed of roses and hunky dory fine, then you are sadly mistaken. We are in a spiritual war and as Christians, we are directly on the battlefield! Eph.6: [12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 2 Cor.10: [3] For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 1Pet.5: [8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: The Apostle Paul was on the front lines! He Wrote: 2 Cor.11: [24] Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. {stripes means the lashes made on the flesh from a whip) [25] Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; [26] In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; [27] In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. [28] Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. [29] Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? [30] If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. [31] The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not. [32] In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me: [33] And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands. Through all this beatings, suffering, and hardship, did he whine and cry and say to God 'how could you let this happen to me?'? NO! Attitude is most important to happiness. We are most blessed because God has our back through Christ Jesus our Lord! What was The Apostle's Paul's attitude for all his troubles? 2 Cor.12: [7b] there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. [8] For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. [9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [10] Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. If you are not getting hit by Satan, then you need to ask yourself 'why?'. The more of a threat you are to the enemy, the more you will be under attack. The Apostle Paul teaches us that God through Christ is our strength during these times and we should rejoice that we are causing the devil so much grief! Not only did he have all these trials and tribulations given him by our enemy Satan, he also had the obligation to take care of all God's early churches. He had to reprove, correct and uplift them so they would be doing their best for God and spreading the ministry of Christ. - 2 Cor.11:28 What an awesome example the Apostle Paul is to all of us! He was not born perfect. He was just like you and me. A man born again with the seed of God in Christ in Him! Saved by the grace of God. A Christian. Attitude makes the difference. He chose to serve Christ no matter what Satan threw at him. A front line hero for sure! :) ========================================================== >-->From Archives InspiredBuffalo: /'\ / / , c-' / /'-._ ,____,' .-'''-. .-'.// \ '-;-========,"-,' ' ,` /, \_//\ ,/ ( '- *) ) ( ./ ) {,}========'===='- ' , , , \/ ', -muse. _____'-.-`_______________________'-..-'____ >ENJOY THE RIDE By: Joseph J. Mazzella When I was a boy I used to love to go bike riding. There was a Summer 4-H camp full of paved roadways across the road from my home. During the Spring and Fall this camp was mainly empty and the roadways were clear for me and my bike. I would ride my old, banana-seat, foot-brake bicycle for hours. The camp grounds had a lot of steep hills that were tough to get up. Often I would have to climb off and push my bike up them. The downhill rides, however, made it all worthwhile. I felt like I was flying, and I barely had to pedal at all. It was pure fun, pure delight, pure joy, and pure happiness. I laughed all the way with the wind in my face, my heart in my throat, and my soul in Heaven. Choosing love, joy, and oneness with God each day often reminds me of those childhood bike rides. It can take a bit of work to get going at first. You can even feel like you are pushing your bike up a steep hill full of problems, work, and worldly concerns. Once you get going, however, you find that the ride becomes easier and easier. Soon you feel like you are flying along without even having to pedal at all. Soon you feel wind blowing in your face, joy filling up your heart, and love radiating from your soul. You find yourself laughing more, smiling more, and singing more. You find yourself sharing more, giving more, and helping more. You find yourself loving others, spreading joy, and living the way that God meant for you to live. You find yourself realizing that God is love, that life is joy, and that we are all God’s children. If you choose then each day of your life can become a fantastic ride of love and joy that takes you a little further along the road to Heaven. The longer you ride too the less steep the hills will become. The longer you ride the faster and smoother you will go. The longer you ride the more you will feel God pedaling right along beside you and smiling all the way. Enjoy the ride. -<>- \\\\, / \\ '<' ) \- / _)_(_ .'\___/'. /.-.___.-.\ [_________] | | ( | , | (\/) ) _\)_ | -|- | <_@__> _(/_ || | | | (/\)(\/) || || | | (\/) <_@_> || || | | <_@_>'(/\) || || | | (/\|/|-. || || .---------. _|_|_ || ||_,-'---------'-,__ |WWWWW| ___jgs|_|____________________|_\_____/__ >Old Rough and Ready Contributor: Paul Fritz A famous Methodist evangelist named Peter Cartwright was known for his uncompromising preaching. However, one day when the President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, "Old Rough and Ready," came to Cartwright's church, the elders warned the Pastor not to offend the President. In those days, the President had great power to influence a denomination for good or bad. Content that their Pastor would not say anything to discredit their church, the elders retired to the back of the sanctuary. When Cartwright got up to speak, the first words out of his mouth were, "I understand that President Andrew Jackson is here this morning. I have been requested to be very guarded in my remarks. Let me say this: Andrew Jackson will go to hell if doesn't repent of his sin!" The entire congregation gasped with shock at Cartwright's boldness. How could this young preacher dare to offend the tough old general in public? they wondered. After the service, everyone wondered how the President would respond to Cartwright. When Andrew Jackson met the preacher at the door he looked at him in the eye and said, "Sir, If I had a regiment of men like you, I could conquer the world!" When we appreciate the power of the word of God and the holy spirit speaking from the lips of people with conviction we will make eternal differences. -<>- .. |\\ .====^^\\==. |\ || |\ kya :X"====^^====' \|XXXXXXXXXX| """"""""""" >The Apple Basket One day an elderly man entered into a hospital. He was grumpy from being On medication and the nurses thought him to be insane, as he yelled for his wife to get the apple basket. By the time they had checked him into his room the nurses were exhausted from the fight he was putting up. "Sir you have to calm down we are doing everything we can for you" they would try to explain. "I don't need your help" the grumpy man would yell "I want my apple basket". He finally slept. The nurses sighed with relief and talked among themselves whether they should call the hospital psychologist about the old man and his obsession with the apple basket. As they talked and laughed about the situation the wife came in carrying the basket of apples. They looked kind of stunned as she asked if she could see her husband and deliver his basket. Sure, they agreed as they watched her slip past into his room. Curiosity consumed them over the next few weeks as they tended to the elderly man. He was eaten with cancer and the doctors had given him no hope of survival. He turned out to be a very calm, happy man once he had his basket. His wife, they noticed, would come in with apples and go out with apples and the curiosity grew even more till one nurse couldn't stand the suspense. One night as he was nearing the end, the nurse sat down in a chair by the wife." May I ask why do you have that apple basket? I just don't understand the significance." "I am an apple farmer by trade he sighed. From the time I was 20 till the day I do die I will forever have my apples." The nurse nodded thinking she understood. He just likes his work, she thought, assured now he was a little bit crazy. As she started to leave, the old man asked her to sit down. "At age 20 I was saved, I accepted the Lord as my Savior." Oh no, the nurse thought. Here comes the lecture on religion. The old man continued. "The day I Accepted the Lord as my Savior I got this basket, and each time I had a problem or concern that I could not handle, I put an apple in the basket un-shined." "Why?" the nurse said shaking her head. "Because it reminded me to give those problems to the Lord for him to shine. See my basket now," he stated. "As my problems disappear so do the apples. As I get new problems, ones I cannot handle alone, I put an apple in." The humble nurse looked into the basket...only one apple was there. With that, he took a big breath and grabbed his wife by the hand and faded into eternal sleep. The wife paused for a moment and got up from her place to take from the basket the last remaining apple. She whispered in his ear that his reward awaits him in heaven. The nurse stayed still and asked with tears in her eyes, "what do you think his riches will be?" The wife knew what they were, eternal life with Jesus Christ. But she could see the concern and sadness upon the young nurses' face and handed her the apple and said "the biggest apple pie you can imagine!" That was the day the young nurse was saved, and from that day on she always had a basket by her bed. - Author Unknown -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Driftwood Art! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/driftwoodart.html Running Horses! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/runninghorses.html Thank You Lord! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thanks.html Awww Animals 9! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/animals9.html Animal Friends 3! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/animalfriends3.html Play With Harley! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/harley.html Me And My Pony! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/mypony.html We Three Friends! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/threefriends.html Road Train Trucks! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/roadtrain.html Story Of LuLu! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/kanga.html Mother Horse's Love! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/motherslove2.html Light Bulb Illusion Art! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lightbulbart.html Amazing Horse Trainer! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/horsetrainer.html Molly The Speckled Pony! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/molly.html I'll Never Fall! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/neverfall.html Invisible Child http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/invisiblechild.html -<>- >From Our Friend PatDeE :) The daughter is visiting her father and is helping in the kitchen. For Decades Story Editor: by Mary Young Joyce Schowalter Georgia, USA My childhood was less than ideal -- in fact, I was the only girl in my immediate family who did not run away from home during adolescence. After high school I moved 300 miles away for college, but quickly had second thoughts about whether I belonged there. Coming from a blue-collar family and an easy rural high school to a white-collar university that gave a "C" for work that would be a "B" at another school, I felt like a misfit financially, culturally, and educationally. Somehow I made it through my freshman year, and headed back for year two. I'm so glad I went back, because that was the year I met Barb. Barb seemed the exact opposite of myself, and everything I wished I could be. She was popular, out-going, confident, talented, and artistic. One day I watched Barb doodle, making beautiful calligraphic swirls while waiting for class to start. I sighed, thinking how Barb could do anything she wanted to: draw, paint, sing, play guitar, even calligraphy. I was lucky to be able to read the notes I took in class -- forget about anyone else being able to read them. Barb heard me sigh, and asked what was wrong. "I wish I was artistic," I replied. "Mary," she said in amazement. "You ARE artistic!" "No, I'm not. I can't draw or do calligraphy. I can color inside the lines, but that's about it." "Well," she said. "I think you're artistic." I figured she was just being nice, but still, if Barb said it, there must be something to it. I knew I was creative -- I'd been writing poems and short stories since I was 12. But artistic? I could barely draw stick figures, and crafts I tried came out looking clunky. But if Barb thought I was artistic, there must be something to it, even if I thought my only artistic abilities were with words. It was 1980 when Barb said those words to me. Thanks to her, I learned to recognize my artistic abilities: the way I instinctively frame a field of wildflowers for the best possible photograph, and my ability to see beauty in unexpected places, like sun-dried sea oats hanging from their stem, backlit by the morning sun=8A The summer of 2009 I wrote Barb and reminded her of that conversation, and let her know her words are still working their magic. I had ripped out a closet in my bedroom for more space, and needed to choose colors, wall hangings and draperies. I felt totally inadequate -- interior decorating has never been my forte. Just as I was about to give up, I heard Barb's voice in my memory, "Mary, you ARE artistic!" With her words ringing in my head, I found the perfect color for the walls, the perfect pictures for the walls, and the perfect drapes to tie it all together. Thanks, Barb, for believing in me all those years ago. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: >THE FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY 980819 ,="=-. ,`'oo' \o`. ( .88 |^||^)) ) , ) ) `@ (@' (.
