>From Bob Latta
I took part in the ceremony celebrating the new structure that has
been painted to resemble the American flag and can be viewed from
I-75. Our nation’s veterans deserve our thanks and praise, and the
water tower will let visitors to the area know that Findlay and
Northwest Ohio value's the sacrifice of our nation's vets.
Speaking of our nation’s veterans, I had the opportunity to sit
down with WWII veteran Orval Mullen of Van Wert to discuss his
service for the Library of Congress’s Veteran’s History Project.
Orval is an American hero who served his country as part of the
front wave on D-Day, at the Battle of the Bulge, and his unit
liberated the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. His story will
be submitted to the Library of Congress where it will be saved for
future generations to learn about the men and women that served in
our military during World War II.
I also spoke out against the administration’s recent $400 million
payment to Iran that coincided with the release of four American
hostages. The actions of paying a ransom only will serve to encourage
more kidnapping by Iran. You can read my statement on the payment here.

NOTE: You may wonder how I select recipes for the website
from those submitted to me. My criteria is whether I think
it is used by the submitter or just copied from the internet.
If you Google the word 'recipe', you get this in response:
About 393,000,000 results (0.46 seconds)
I obviously have no interest in having 393 million recipes
on my website. I am a 'Variety = The Spice Of Life' type of
home Christian website so I like a little taste of all that
God has to offer us in His wonderful creation.
That being said, I used my own original home recipes that I
cook every day for my own family along with some from my mom's
old recipe book. My idea was to help beginners be able to make
delicious, inexpensive meals for themselves or for their family.
I always tell my family that God is the absolutely best cook!
Just ask Him to help you, put your ears on and it'll turn out
good! That's how I figured out all my original recipes. I had
help from world's best chef!
Just remember, you are not bothering God by asking Him for help:
Prov.3:

>A HAPPY OLD DOG
by Roger Kiser
My seven year old granddaughter, Madison, asked me if I would
come to her field day at school the next day.
Not feeling very well I really didn't want to go. For years,
going to such things meant very little to me. Not having any
parents and having been raised in an orphanage my entire childhood;
those kinds of events just became something to do and nothing more
because there was never anyone there for us.
The next morning I got up and began to think about the day I
graduated from the Army basic training. How proud I was to have
succeeded at something in my life. When the ceremony was over,
every soldier ran to their parents and off they went to wherever
families go who love one another. Within thirty minutes the parade
ground was cleared and there I stood all alone. There was no one
who cared about what I had accomplished. I remember tears running
down my cheeks and as I wiped them away I thought soldiers don't
cry now cause they're men.
Slowly I walked off the parade ground and I went to wherever
it is kids go that don't have anyone or anywhere to go.
Immediately, I dressed and headed for Madison's school. When
I arrived, the field day had been called off because of bad weather
and the children were being herded back to their classrooms. I
walked to Madi's classroom and when she saw me a large smile
appeared on her face. On my way back home this wonderful feeling
came over me and finally -- after fifty years -- I felt what it was
like to have someone attend my Army graduation parade.
I see now it's all about caring. I was never given a sense
that anyone cared so I did not learn to give back to those I love.
I suppose most people who were given such feeling as a child now
take it for granted.
What a wonderful feeling caring is. Today I am one happy old
dog who has learned a new and wonderful trick.
-- Roger Kiser Sr.

>Message from a non-oppressed black man to Colin Kaepernick…
By Allen West August 28, 2016
If there’s one thing I live for, it’s football season, especially
college. Saturday night I was enjoying a fantastic game between
Charleston Southern University and North Dakota State University.
The game went into overtime and ended with the Bison of NDSU winning
24-17. However, as I watched this thrilling game, it was an item on
the ESPN news ticker that disturbed me — to which I see a need to
respond to this “teachable moment.”
As we reported yesterday, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin
Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem in Friday’s
pre-season game against Green Bay because he was protesting “black
oppression” in the United States. The Niners went on to lose.
The NFL issued a statement that said players are encouraged but not
required to stand for the national anthem. Hmm, this is the same
NFL that refused to allow the Dallas Cowboys to wear a helmet decal
in honor of the fallen Dallas Police officers gunned down on
Thursday July 7th.
This is the same NFL that said nothing when players from the then-
St. Louis Rams displayed the false narrative symbol of “hands up,
don't shoot” — which we know didn’t happen. I find it rather
interesting that the NFL has no issue disrespecting law enforcement
officers but only “encourages” players to respect the symbol of our
nation, the American flag, and our anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
However, I would recommend a simple scripture from the wise King
Solomon for Mr. Kaepernick, Proverbs 17:28 (NIV): “Even fools are
thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their
tongues.”
Or, as the old folks down South would say, “best for a stupid person
to keep their mouth shut and not open it and let everyone know they
are.”
Mr. Kaepernick, a biracial young man adopted and raised by white
parents, claims America is oppressing blacks at a time when we have
a black, biracial president who was twice elected. We’ve had two
black attorneys general and currently have a black secretary of
homeland security, along with a black national security advisor.
Here in Dallas our police chief, whom I know, is an outstanding
black leader. The officer in Milwaukee who shot the armed assailant
after issuing an order to drop his weapon was black. Is Mr.
Kaepernick following suit and cherry-picking what he terms
“oppression?”
First of all, let me clarify to you sir, you are a multi-millionaire
“one-percenter” just because you can throw a ball and kiss your
biceps. Men like Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Oscar
Robertson, Ernie Davis, and Bernard King and Condredge Halloway of
my alma mater were athletes who knew of oppression. You sir may
certainly have the right to sit upon your “fourth point of contact”
when the National Anthem is played but never forget, you live in a
nation that has provided you the privilege to have that right.
My story is one I wish to share. My dad was a corporal in the U.S.
Army and served during World War II. He was born in 1920 and knew
oppression. Yet, when he sat me down on the steps of our home, 651
Kennesaw Ave NE in Atlanta, he shared with me that there was no
greater honor or privilege, than to wear the uniform of these
United States. Perhaps that ‘s why his first and middle sons,
along with his grandson, are all U.S. combat veterans, just like
Dad. Herman West Sr. was not a victim, and he raised men who would
never allow anyone to suppress or oppress them. Perhaps you should
stop trying to make victims and admonish people, black people, to
be victors — try it, and you may find that more satisfying than
your insidious action and word vomiting.
If you want to know about oppression of blacks in America, past and
present, how about you ask Rep. Nancy Pelosi of the San Fran Bay
Area about the policies that decimated the black family? Maybe you
can cross the Bay over to Oakland and ask Rep. Barbara Lee about
the 13 to 15 million black babies killed since 1973, and ask her who
is Margaret Sanger?
Or perhaps you can ask the two California senators, Boxer and
Feinstein, about who doesn’t support better education opportunities
for black children in the inner cities — school choice, vouchers,
charter schools, home schooling.
Perhaps you didn’t know Barack Obama was the one who cancelled the
DC school voucher program for deserving young black children — talk
about oppression. Is that something you’re willing to do, or is it
just too difficult?
You should look at who’s been controlling the communities and
cities where blacks live. This isn’t about what America has done;
it’s about what a certain group, a political party has done. And
your somewhat backhanded comment towards our law enforcement
officers — well, wonder how many times San Francisco PD has
protected you?
Here is the deal young man. My recommendation is that you apologize.
Be a stand up fella and admit you made a very stupid comment.
Humbly state that you do realize how very special this country is
and the opportunities it has afforded you — and many others. You
should take that stand and apologize to all of those who are
currently serving in our Armed Forces and those veterans who’ve
been willing to make that last full measure of devotion. You see,
when the National Anthem is played, it has a very special meaning
to us — maybe you should take a hiatus and go over to Helmand
Province in Afghanistan and spend a week and understand why. Go
over and throw a football with the men and women who enable you to
earn those millions of dollars.
The American flag has a very touching meaning for those of us for
whom it will drape our coffin — as it was for my Dad…and it will be
for me. That song defines who we are as a proud and exceptional
people. This is a land where so many dream of coming to and earning
the title of American. Your actions were shameful, disgusting,
despicable and disrespectful.
You do have a right and a freedom of expression. But know, there
are consequences to your ignorant action, which is what it was.
When the National Anthem is played, I salute because I am a black
man born and raised in the inner city afforded the opportunity for
greatness in my own right. May you seek God’s forgiveness and find
humility, because we, the people are not going to forget what you
did and said.

...I shared this from Mr. West because I highly respect this man
and he has the authority to be able to comment on how disrespectful
this NFL player was concerning our great country.

>"The Law of the Garbage Truck."
Best advise in a long time DSTSS (Don't Sweat The Small Stuff).
How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do
you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive
employee ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an
instant you're, probably set back on your heels. However, the mark
of a successful person is how quickly she/he can get back her/his
focus on what's important.
Five years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of
a taxi cab in Indianapolis. Here's what happened.
I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Indianapolis Airport. We
were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car
jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver
slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car's back end
by just inches!
The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big
accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words
at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And, I mean,
he was friendly.
So, I said, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your
car and sent us to the hospital!" And this is when my taxi driver
told me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."
Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage,
full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As
their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let
them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you,
don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and
move on. You'll
be happy you did.
So this was it: The "Law of the Garbage Truck." I started thinking,
how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do
I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home,
on the streets? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it
anymore."
I began to see garbage trucks. Like in the movie "The Sixth Sense,"
the little boy said, "I see Dead People." Well, now "I see Garbage
Trucks." I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop
it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I
just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks
take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life,
starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?
You'll be happier. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with
regrets, so.. Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones
who don't.

>Frugal Mother
by Clara Wersterfer
Growing up, I do not remember doing without things we needed. We
didn't have unnecessary or luxury items. Just the essentials.
Somehow, we seemed to always have food, clothing and shoes. Mom
never told me to clean my plate as some kids somewhere were
starving. Whenever I asked for something special, Mom didn't say
"no", but rather "We'll get it a little later, maybe in a few
weeks. I'll have to make room in the budget for it" I didn't know
we were poor. I just knew some things had to be waited for. You
see, what I didn't understand, was that Mom set aside an amount of
money for everything.
We lived within that allotted amount or we did without. Many times
Mother mentioned wanting something that wasn't in the budget. Every
week a portion of the income went to the savings. Mom wanted a house
of her own. She was tired of paying rent to her father.
In four short years she saved enough for a down payment on a five
room house. How she managed to do it, I still do not know. Another
four years later, she sold this house for a profit and bought a nine
room house. World War 2 was in progress and housing at a premium.
No one wanted such a big house to heat and maintain. Mom sold the
little five room house and had enough to pay for the big house.
This woman was always wheeling and dealing. I think she invented
bartering, since she never seemed to pay out cash for most things.
As I grew older, I noticed Mother making her weekly menus. She was
careful with her money, watching the newspaper for sales. Lights
were not left on when we went to another room. Leftovers became
a pot of soup, or disguised in another dish. Food remaining on our
plates was placed in a dish for the cats. Our heat was turned way
down at night. Just throw on another blanket she would say. The car
never left the garage without a list of shops or stores in order of
nearness to our house. If you followed her directions, you didn't
backtrack. No wasted gas here. She raised a large vegetable garden
every year. Everything was canned or frozen. A lot of it shared by
neighbors or family. Mothers old clothes appeared as a dress or
skirt for me. She painted and papered our house her self as well
as worked full time as a nurse.
By the same token, Mother gave generously of her time, money,
baked goods or what ever was needed by the church or neighbors.
Mom always tithed. She was first in line to receive the names of
families to help at Christmas. Any one in need seemed to find
their way to our door. They were never turned away.
As frugal and thrifty as Mother was, she never amassed a lot of
worldly goods. In her last days, before cancer claimed her, there
was a steady stream of visitors. For two straight weeks the house
was not empty, nor the phone silent. Her doctor made an after hours
social call to tell her how much her relationship had meant.
Even when she was sleeping, they came, to hold her hand, kiss her
cheeks and say a prayer. That's when it became clear to me. Mother
wasn't known for frugality, but rather for her generosity.
I realized she saved so she could give.

>Do It Now!
In a class I teach for adults, I recently did the "unpardonable." I
gave the class homework! The assignment was to "go to someone you
love within the next week and tell them you love them. It has to be
someone you have never said those words to before or at least haven't
shared those words with for a long time."
Now that doesn't sound like a very tough assignment, until you stop
to realized that most of the men in that group were over 35 and were
raised in the generation of men that were taught that expressing
emotions is not "macho." Showing feelings or crying (heaven forbid!)
was just not done. So this was a very threatening assignment for
some.
At the beginning of our next class, I asked if someone wanted to
share what happened when they told someone they loved them. I fully
expected one of the women to volunteer, as was usually the case, but
on this evening one of the men raised his hand. He appeared quite
moved and a bit shaken.
As he unfolded out of his chair (all 6'2" of him), he began by
saying, "Dennis, I was quite angry with you last week when you gave
us this assignment. I didn't feel that I had anyone to say those
words to, and besides, who were you to tell me to do something that
personal? But as I began driving home my conscience started talking
to me. It was telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say `I
love you' to. You see, five years ago, my father and I had a vicious
disagreement and really never resolved it since that time. We avoided
seeing each other unless we absolutely had to at Christmas or other
family gatherings. But even then, we hardly spoke to each other. So,
last Tuesday by the time I got home I had convinced myself I was
going to tell my father I loved him.
"It's weird, but just making that decision seemed to lift a heavy
load off my chest.
"When I got home, I rushed into the house to tell my wife what I was
going to do. She was already in bed, but I woke her up anyway. When I
told her, she didn't just get out of bed, she catapulted out and
hugged my, and for the first time in our married life she saw me cry.
We stayed up half the night drinking coffee and talking. It was
great!
"The next morning I was up bright and early. I was so excited I could
hardly sleep. I got to the office early and accomplished more in two
hours than I had the whole day before.
"At 9:00 I called my dad to see if could come over after work. When
he answered the phone, I just said, `Dad, can I come over after work
tonight? I have something to tell you.' My dad responded with a
grumpy, `Now what?' I assured him it wouldn't take long, so he
finally agreed.
"At 5:30, I was at my parents' house ringing the doorbell, praying
that Dad would answer the door. I was afraid if Mom answered that I
would chicken out and tell her instead. But as luck would have it,
Dad did answer the door.
"I didn't waste any time – I took one step in the door and
said, `Dad, I just came over to tell you that I love you.'
"It was as if a transformation came over my dad. Before my eyes his
face softened, the wrinkles seemed to disappear and he began to cry.
He reached out and hugged me and said, `I love you too, son, but I've
never been able to say it.'
"It was such a precious moment I didn't want to move. Mom walked by
with tears in her eyes. I just waved and blew her a kiss. Dad and I
hugged for a moment longer and then I left. I hadn't felt that great
in a long time.
"But that's not even my point. Two days after that visit, my dad, who
had heart problems, but didn't tell me, had an attack and ended up in
the hospital, unconscious. I don't know if he'll make it.
"So my message to all of you in this is: Don't wait to do the things
you know need to be done. What if I had waited to tell my dad – maybe
I will never get the chance again! Take the time to do what you need
to do and do it now!"

Land That Made Me Me is a funny song about times long ago and far
away that some of you will recall with very fond memories. It is
truly amazing how fast things have changed in just a few short
decades of existence. Keeping up with technology and social change
can be exhausting for many people.

>A Lasting Impression Story Editor:
by Jim Bearden Clayton Bennett
California, USA
If you've watched television any time in the last 40 years, you
probably recognize the name Carol Burnett. She is famous for her
acting skills, both in comedies and serious dramas, but there's
much more to her than the parts she has played.
You may know that she overcame a difficult childhood. Both her
parents were alcoholics, her father left when she was very young,
and she once had to depend on welfare. You may admire her because of
her courage. When the National Enquirer published a false story about
her, she sued the publisher for libel and won. Then she donated the
money from that lawsuit to the University of Hawaii to start a fund
for responsible journalism. But there's still more about her that
deserves attention and respect.
In the early 1960s, Carol Burnett performed on "The Garry Moore
Show" on television and in the Broadway play "Once Upon a Mattress".
My younger sister, Julie, was in her early teens at the time. She
admired Burnett's talent, and was very happy and surprised to
encounter her, by chance, in a restaurant.
The restaurant was "Ports o' Call" in Dallas, Texas, where my
parents took Julie on a vacation trip. It was set up so that the
entrance lobby was like the deck of a sailing ship, and the dining
rooms were the "ports" down different gangways. Just as they entered
the lobby, they saw Carol Burnett in a group of people coming out of
one of the dining rooms.
My sister collected autographs in those days, so she always had
her autograph book with her. She boldly asked Carol Burnett for an
autograph. Ms. Burnett graciously agreed, and waited for my sister
to get her book out. Julie, who was by now a little nervous about
meeting one of her idols, spilled the contents of her purse all
over the lobby floor.
In a situation like this, some celebrities might have said they
had other people waiting and other places to be, and excused
themselves. Others might have waited while the awkward admirer got
things picked up. But Carol Burnett got down on the floor with
Julie, helped her pick everything up, and reassured her not to be
embarrassed.
When everything was back in the purse, Ms. Burnett helped Julie
up, signed her autograph book, talked with her a few minutes, and
then went on her way. She left behind not just one admirer, but a
whole family of them. Carol Burnett showed that a famous person can
also be a great role model in everyday life.

>Sit With Me
There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the
drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people
who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the
people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too
short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life,
getting back up is living."
Quote: "Today may there be peace within. May you trust that you are
exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite
possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you
use the gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has
been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you
are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul
the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each
and every one of us.

>"RUTH"
Ruth went to her mail box and there was only one letter. She picked
it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the
envelope again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and
address.
She read the letter:
Dear Ruth:
'I`m going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon and I'd
like to stop by for a visit.'
Love Always,
Jesus
Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. 'Why
would the Lord want to visit me? I'm nobody special. I don't have
anything to offer.' With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty
kitchen cabinets. 'Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to
offer. I'll have to run down to the store and buy something for
dinner.' She reached for her purse and counted out its contents.
Five dollars and forty cents. Well, I can get some bread and cold
cuts, at least.' She threw on her coat and hurried out the door.
A loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton
of milk...leaving Ruth with grand total twelve cents to last her
until Monday. Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her
meager offerings tucked under her arm.
'Hey lady, can you help us,lady?' Ruth had been so absorbed in
her dinner plans, she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in
the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them dressed in little
more than rags.
'Look lady, I ain't got a job, you know, and my wife and I have
been living out here on the street, and, well, now it's getting
cold and we're getting kinda hungry and, well, if you could help
us. Lady, we'd really appreciate it.' Ruth looked at them both.
They were dirty, they smelled bad and frankly, she was certain
that they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to.
'Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I
have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I'm having an
important guest for dinner tonight and I was planning on serving
that to Him.'
'Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway.' The man put
his arm around the woman's shoulders, turned and headed back into
the alley.
As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her
heart. 'Sir, wait!' The couple stopped and turned as she ran
down the alley after them. 'Look, why don't you take this food.
I'll figure out something else to serve my guest.' She handed the
man her grocery bag.
'Thank you lady. Thank you very much!'
'Yes, thank you!' It was the man's wife, and Ruth could see now
that she was shivering.
'You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you
take this one.' Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over
the woman's shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to
the street... without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest.
'Thank you lady! Thank you very much!'
Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried
too. The Lord was coming to visit and she didn't have anything to
offer Him. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as
she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox. 'That's
odd. The mailman doesn't usually come twice in one day.'
Dear Ruth:
'It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal.
And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat.'
Love Always,
Jesus
The air was still cold, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer
noticed.

>THE FUNNIEST THINGS KIDS SAY
It is amazing how quick thinking some tots can be. Many years
ago when Kathy's two daughters were toddlers they had identical
goldfish that lived in the same fish bowl. One morning they sadly
discovered one poor fish floating belly up, dead as a door nail. It
was a pathetic sight... But -- even in her grief -- big sister Jaime
didn't miss a beat. Without a second to spare, she put a consoling
arm around her little sister and said, "Oh Katie, so sorry YOUR fish
died!" -- Kathy Gade Whirity (a family life columnist and mother of
two) of Chicago
Jennifer, who homeschools her children, was giving Jonathan his
yearly testing. As the mom, Jennifer can only say things such as
"Do your best, Honey" or "What do you think?" One question (aimed
at punctuation, spelling and grammar) listed the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics and Jonathan said, "I don't even understand who
that is." Jennifer commented, "That's the old name for Russia. That
isn't their name now." Jonathan said, "Oh, is their new name IRS?"
-- Jennifer Raffety of Independence, Missouri
Here's another one from Jennifer. Emily, 4, enjoys listening to
music. One song she particularly loves is "I'll Have a New Life"
(about life after the resurrection). One line of the chorus is:
"I'll have a new body, Praise the Lord! I'll have a new life."
This is the four-year-old's version: "I'll have a new potty, Praise
the Lord! I'll have a new wife."

Jamie was about 5 when he ended up in a hospital for some
surgery. There was an over-active 3-year-old in his ward who was into
everything. When Jamie's father visited Jamie, Jamie said, "Oh, that
little Joey! I hate his sweet little guts!" -- Rev E. Rambo
(Jamie's father) of Jefferson City, Missouri
Susan had 3-year-old, Shannon, and a new baby named Shelley.
They went to the doctor because Shelley had been really sick. Her
bottom was really red and angry looking. After the exam, Shannon
felt compelled to tell the doctor that they had already tried several
remedies. It came out this way: "We put gasoline on Shelley and had
a human fire!" Susan had to explain to the puzzled doctor: "We put
VASELINE on Shelley and have a HUMIDIFIER!" -- Angela Gasper (cousin
of Susan) of Orland Hills, Illinois
Shane, 8, learned all about tornadoes in school and shared his
information with his younger brother James, 4, who later told his
father: "Dad, did you know that when it gets berry, berry, berry,
berry windy, a tomato will come?" -- Pastor Shawn P. Stapleton
(father of Shane and James) of Beloit, Wisconsin

Marie's daughter just turned 5 and Marie thought they could do
a science project together. So, they planted a garden and watched
the corn, zucchini, etc. sprout. One day Marie wanted to make a
cake and noticed that one of her eggs was missing. When she asked
her little girl about the egg, the 5-year-old explained, "Remember
when we were in the grocery story and you said you like eggplants...
I wanted to make you proud of me and I wanted to surprise you so I
planted the egg in the garden to grow some eggplants!" -- Marie
Payne of Richmond, California
Sunny, who works in a steakhouse, took her five kids there for
dinner. The steaks come out with little plastic tabs stuck in them
to indicate the cooking temperature (rare, medium, well done).
Tisha, 10, pointed to the yellow tab in her steak and asked what it
was. Sunny replied, "It's to tell the steak's temperature." Tisha
nodded, pulled the tab out, examined it, then stuck it in and out a
few times. After a moment, she looked at her mother and said,
"Well, how does it work?" -- Sunny of Richmond, Virginia

>A Child Like Faith
I watch in awe as the sun begins to set
Colors so brilliant they almost hurt my eyes
Yet, So beautiful and awesome at the same time
A beautiful ending to my lovely God Given Day
I smile softly as I sit so quietly just remembering
Thinking of butterflies gracefully flying around
Tiny bee's buzzing along busily doing their chores
Birds building a nest for their little ones soon will be found
What an awesomely beautiful, wondrous world we live in
When we get away from the hustle and bustle of life
Forget about the worries and struggles of the day
If only for a moment just forget about worry and strife
Take some time to consider the lovely things around us
Just for a moment push away life's worries and cares
Listen to the joyful laughter of children at play
Living for today with no sad thoughts or tears
If only as little children we could all become
Throwing all our cares and worries away
Eagerly reaching out to enjoy all of God's creation
Calling on Him to wipe all our cares and worries away
In child like freedom we can once again enjoy life
As on our Father's wonderful creation we daily tread
Retrieving that child like Faith in our Almighty God
Letting Him be Our Father who provides our daily bread
So merciful and loving is our wonderful Father above
Reach out to Him today as He reaches out to you with Love
Using your child like faith become all that you can be
Like a magnet it will lead you to His Everlasting Love
Sometimes it takes a moment like this to understand life
Why do we never learn? Just say NO and end up all alone
Hang on to your child like faith as you take each step
One day child like faith will lead you to your eternal home
AMEN!
