Baker On Father's Day I'll wander down memory lane and I'll smile knowing my dad, at 90 years of age, is doing likewise. With many miles between us, I'm seldom with him on Father's Day and this year will be no different. Sure, we'll have a cheerful chat on the phone and he will thank me for his card and gift. Nonetheless, we won't feel cheated by the status of a calendar, for we have oodles of memories to sustain us. For us, Father's Day is whenever we are fortunate enough to be together. It's not as often as I'd like, but when it happens we have extended visits, not just a few days. Recently I went home and spent an entire month with Dad. Each and every day was a joyful celebration! That equals 30 years worth of Father's Days rolled into one get-together -- it doesn't get any better than that! Our month of memory making took us down pathways abundant with twists, turns, and even a few detours. One afternoon an unexpected storm chased us away from the lake where we were fishing, sent us back home, and straight to the kitchen. to the kitchen. "Kathy," Dad said, "don't you think we should bake a pan of brownies?" In translation, that meant Kathy would you bake a pan of brownies? His sweet tooth had been deprived of dessert for at least three days -- mercy! "Sure! You just relax while I mix up a batch." I'd barely begun when I heard horse hooves, gunshots, and the voice of John Wayne. It was time for Dad's afternoon western. I soon popped the brownies into the oven. "Dad, how long's it been since you've had icing on your brownies?" His blue eyes twinkled at the thought. "Way too long!" While I frosted brownies, Dad rode sidekick with John Wayne through the Montana high country. At the next commercial, he dismounted and sauntered into the kitchen to clean out the icing bowl, while I expected to hear the clatter of spurs against the kitchen floor. "What kind of icing is this? I know it's chocolate but it tastes a little different than usual." "Dad, it's chocolate mocha. I know Mom made it from time to time." "Well, if she did, I sure don't remember it!" He left not one smidgen of icing and nearly scraped the finish right off the bowl. Still smacking his lips, he yanked a recipe card out of a drawer and scribbled down detailed instructions for making chocolate mocha icing. Baking brownies and icing them for John Wayne's sidekick will most definitely dance through my mind on Father's Day. Still, if I were able to spend the actual occasion with Dad, I know exactly how we'd observe his special day. I'd pack a picnic basket brimming over with decadent treats and we'd share a feast while fishing. And, for dessert? Well, brownies with icing -- what else? -- Kathleene S. I am certain virtually everyone has heard of the murder of Dr Tiller here in Wichita. This one strikes close to home for us. Our new congregation meets right around the corner from his infamous abortion clinic. What a thing for a community to be known for! We are the abortion capital of the world. People literally come here from all over because you can get away with things here that you just cannot do elsewhere. He would do things that no man of conscience could do. Here is a link to an undercover video made of him bragging about his procedures and complaining about the born alive protection act. You’ll have to sign in and confirm you are over 18 if you wish to watch it because of a couple of his photos he shows at the beginning of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpr_sN04j_0 Dr Tiller was giving a speech while being honored by the National education association as a hero. After said speech he was interviewed by some that he perceived as friends and appears not to realize he is on tape. He speaks rather freely of his monstrous trade. There are a couple of rather important quotes in that video. “Let’s say you have 15 or 16 and you had one slip out with a heartbeat, that is not a viable fetus, but that is born alive or has a heart beat. Then you have to take that non-viable fetus and rush it to the hospital against the woman’s wishes.” “If the baby is born alive it is sloppy medicine and it shouldn’t be done.” ““I have done (them) up to the day before delivery.” The Word of God addresses this callous behavior directly, “They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace. Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; They did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time that I punish them, They shall be cast down,” says the LORD.” Jeremiah 6:14-15 The news media is making a mass murderer… 60,000 murders into a kind, compassionate man. He became a millionaire by killing babies… personally. Adolph Hitler ordered the killing of millions. Dr. Tiller rolled up his sleeves and did his killing up close and personal, up to one day before the baby was born… and Dr. Tiller was proud that he was not sloppy in doing it. Dr Paul McHugh reviewed Dr Tiller’s files at the request of then attorney general Phil Kline and found these late term abortions were actually done for social reasons… “couldn’t go to the prom.” Etc. Here is a link to that interview. He says that he did not find one case that could be substantiated even under the guidelines of Kansas law…. The following letter, read on Glenn Beck's show, is rapidly circulating around the country. Americans everywhere identify with this 53-year-old woman. She has given us a voice. Once you read this, you will want to forward it to all of your friends... GLENN BECK: I got a letter from a woman in Arizona. She writes an open letter to our nation's leadership: I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me? Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation: One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration. Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal. Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it. Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say. Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down! Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there. Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate. Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why -- what do you have against shareholders making a profit? Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves. Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us. Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try -- please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me. Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now. Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave. I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending. From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons. We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution. Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole darn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming. --- ...Wow! What a powerful letter Viv! Thank you! Because several of us have done exemplary work, each time the contract was up for renewal the job site management always requested that we stay. Thus, I have had the opportunity to become acquainted with the employees. I have worked on this job site for over thirteen years, always part time. One day while at work in the summer of 2008, my mind was in despair as to how I was going to handle the many problems associated with my son's illness. He has schizophrenia. He had stopped taking his medication and his symptoms intensified. His behavior became more erratic, and his and my frustrations were accelerating. My mind was seesawing back and forth with thoughts. I should be home. How am I going to convince him he needs to take this medication? What is he doing in my absence? What am I going to find at home? I need this job in order to make ends meet. How do other people manage in the same situation? Then there were worries about overcoming the stigma attached to this illness. And angry thoughts, as all attempts to receive help have been stymied by bureaucrats, with mental health funding slashed by politicians. What am I going to do in the future for myself and for him? What's going to happen to him after I'm gone? I'm 63, have major heart muscle death from a heart attack, two cervical discs herniated, and severe osteoarthritis throughout my whole body. My symptoms were severe that day: the spinal cord arthritis was causing muscle spasms in my hand, charley horses in my calves and an excruciating headache. In general, I was starting to decline into a depressed mood. Linda, an employee who had confided in me about her Crohn's disease and the fact her daughter was enrolled in college and was finding it difficult to adjust, stopped by to say goodnight. All she knew about my son was that he suffers from organic brain syndrome. I told her he was not doing so well. Linda replied, "Trust him but most of all just love him," and she left. Those words resounded in my whole being. I do love my son, but on this day I let my fears and frustrations overshadow this fact. Most of all, the words "trust him" really struck home. I had allowed his illness to deflect me from his basic nature and personality. I started remembering all the issues he has, yet he still works at overcoming them. I have had too many people, professional and otherwise, advocate the futility of expecting anything from my son. Linda saved me spiritually, emotionally and mentally. I keep her words ever-present in my thoughts. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Inspired Buffalo: ______________ .-~.------------.~-. ,-~ ,'| /// || // `, ~-,_ ,''"'`--|--------|`--------~~~ ~~- .,_ > _|__~ | ~ `. ____ ~ -. When they got out of the cab, the friend said to the driver, "Thank you for the ride. You did a super job of driving this cab!" The taxi driver seemed stunned for a second and said, "Are you a wise guy or something?" "No," said the man, "I'm serious. I admire the way you keep cool in heavy traffic. Not many cab drivers are able to do that. I'm glad I rode in your cab today!" "Yeah, sure," the cab driver said and he drove off. Buchwald asked his friend, "What was that all about?" "I am trying to bring love back to New York City," said the man. "I believe it's the only thing that can save the city." "You think one man can save New York City?" "It's not one man," said the man. "I believe I have made that taxi driver's day. Suppose he has twenty fares. He's going to be nice to those twenty fares because someone was nice to him. Those fares will in turn be kinder to their employees, shopkeepers or waiters, or even their own families. Eventually, the goodwill could spread to at least a thousand people. Now that isn't bad, is it?" "But you are depending on that taxi driver to pass your goodwill on to others." "Maybe he won't," said the man. "But I might say something nice to ten different people today. If, out of ten, I can make three happy, then I can indirectly influence the attitudes of three thousand or more." "You're some kind of a nut," said Buchwald to his friend. "That shows how cynical you've become," said the man. "Take postal workers, for instance. The reason so many of them hate their work is because no one is telling them that they are doing a good job." "But they aren't doing a good job." "They're not doing a good job because they don't believe anyone cares if they do or not," replied the man. Buchwald and his friend continued walking down the street and noticed five workmen eating their lunch. The friend stopped and said, "That's a magnificent job you men have done. It must be difficult and dangerous work." The workmen looked at Buchwald's friend suspiciously. "When will this job be finished?" the friend asked. "June," growled one of the workmen. "Ah, that is really impressive. You must all be very proud of what you are doing here!" As they walked away, Buchwald said, "I still don't think you are doing any good." "On the contrary," said the man, "when those workmen digest my words, they'll feel better about what they are doing and somehow the city will benefit." "But you can't do this alone," said Buchwald. "You're just one man." "But I'm not discouraged," he said. "I'm hoping to enlist others in my campaign." They continued walking down the street. "You just smiled at a very plain-looking woman," Buchwald said to his friend. "Yes, I know," the man replied. "And if she's a schoolteacher, her class is going to be in for a fantastic day." --- Application: Most of us don't realize the impact that we can have on the world by sharing God's love one person at a time. When we do, we can set off a chain reaction that will reap huge dividends for the kingdom of God. You can make a big difference in the world with seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Just as Jesus took a few loaves and fishes beside the sea of Galilee and fed a multitude, God is able to take the small things we do for him and perform miracles in other people's lives. Try it and see what happens! -<>- __ @@;, ( ; ? : ); _| |_ | | || | | _| |_ | \ \ \/ || \/ ___ / / | __| |\ __||____||___||______/| | ||| | |_______ _________| | ||| ||| |____ | | ____| ||| Design by \ \______ ) | | / ______/ / || | | | | | /___| || Samule J. The table would be pulled out and the leaves would be inserted for the family that would be there. Oftentimes the minister from the Church would eat with us. The men when they entered the home would take their hats off and hang them up by the door. All would wash their hands and sit at their designated place. My uncle would sit at the head of the table, his wife at the opposite end. The best dishes were used every Sunday along with the best silverware. During the hot, dusty summer, the dishes might be turned upside down to protect them from the dust and flies, as this was before air-conditioning. Sometimes if the meals were served and my aunt was not ready to eat, the plates would be covered with a clean dishcloth. Everyone sat upright, no elbows on the table, when my aunt entered the room everyone stood up, it was expected. She was being honored. My uncle would either say Grace or ask someone to say Grace. After the prayer was concluded he would take the first dish of food and put some on his plate and pass it to his right, and on it would go. Usually the elders would sit to his right with the children being the last served. This was normal and there were no questions asked. At the table people discussed family events, church events, school happenings, matters of consequence. Never was there a heated discussion, and always proper manners were in place. When finished eating, you asked for permission to be excused from the table and you cleaned your mouth with a real napkin. You politely removed yourself, and put your chair back into place. The women would clear the table and do dishes while the men would retire and discuss matters for menfolk. The children would go outside and play. The table would be put back in it's place until it was used again. When did the table lose it's place in our family? Or is the better question when did our family lose it's table? When did manners fade away? When did respect of our Elders dissolve? Do you pray before receiving your food? Do you bless your food? Do have your family time? Does what I describe to you sound like a better way of life, of living? Take the time. Start at home. Home...what a beautiful word. Think about this.... The Lord gave us Hope with His Last Supper at the Table. Commune with your family. Start today. Each day’s a new beginning, A time to start anew, While all the stars are sleeping, The rose is fresh with dew. Each day’s a new creation, Too lovely to ignore, We may find a blessing, Just outside our door. We cannot keep the past, Like fireflies in a jar; Nor journey to the future, By wishing on a star. It's then I hear you answer me, "My Precious Child...be still." Sometimes I feel frustrated, cause I think I know what's best. It's then I hear you say to me, "My Busy Child...just rest!" Sometimes I feel so lonely and I think I'd like a mate. Your still small voice gets oh so clear and says, "My Child...please wait!" I've something very special I hope for you to learn. The gifts I wish to give to you are gifts you cannot earn. They come without a price tag, but not without a cost; at Calvary, I gave My Son, so You would not be lost. Rest Child, and do not grow weary of doing what is good.
