Some are traveling or working abroad. Others reside in different countries. Many are in the armed forces, and voluntarily spend their holiday fighting and dying for the country they believe in. On July the 4th, their friends and families back home in the U.S. gather together. A grill is fired up. The smell of charcoal filters throughout their old neighborhoods. Their families gather to laugh -- grandfathers toss baseballs to grandsons, fathers tend to burning meat, and later, everyone stands under a dark sky to admire the fireworks that explode over their heads. At the end of the day, they walk hand-in-hand on their way home after a day of love and celebration. Those who aren't home feel lonely. They don't have a day off from work. It's business as usual where they are. There’s no one to wish them a happy July 4th. I know how they feel. On July 1st –- Canada Day, the Canadian equivalent of 4th of July -– I walked through our Lexington Avenue office in Manhattan. I wished everyone I passed a happy Canada Day. Most people had heard of it, but they had no idea how important a day it is for their neighboring country. They didn't know Canada celebrated just as the USA does for Independence Day. I was working on a holiday I hold dear. I had no one to celebrate with. Back in my home country, the party was on. They celebrated. I worked. The work day came to a close. I dropped beneath the concrete jungle and followed the crowds to the "E" train of the New York Subway system. Beneath the streets, the platforms were hot and crowded. The 42nd street subway station is one of the largest in Manhattan. It spans several blocks beneath Times Square. It's a connecting point for five different subway lines. Above ground is the Metropolitan Authority bus station -- a huge complex for the major bus lines into and out of Manhattan. People jammed all around me. I felt sorry for myself- – alone on a New York subway station. I wanted to celebrate my country. A splash of red caught my eye. I turned to my right. Twenty feet down, a young woman stood by herself, waiting for the same train. She wore a jersey with a maple leaf on the front. I walked up to her. She had earphones plugged in her ear. I leaned close, "Happy Canada Day!" I said it loud enough to be heard over her music. I started to walk away. "Hey!" I heard behind me. I turned. She pulled her earphones out. "Are you Canadian too?" "I sure am!" I smiled. "No way! Are you kidding me? So am I!" Laura and I stood, chatted about our memories of Canada, and waited for our train. When it came, it was packed. "You know what?" I asked. "When the train is that packed, there is usually one close behind that’s empty. I'm going to wait." "You're right!" she said. "I'll wait too." We wanted the moment to last -- a few minutes of Canada on our day. The next "A" train arrived. It was practically empty. We stepped in, sat beside each other, and chatted for the next 133 blocks. Laura was a beautiful young girl from Toronto. She was in New York to study dance, music and singing. Her energy and love for her country was contagious. The heaviness in my heart vanished. I had a moment of Canada beneath the streets of New York City. At 175th street, I had to get off the train. I shook her hand. "Laura, thank you. I'll never see you again, but I want to thank you for making my Canada Day special." I stepped off and watched the subway pull away. As it disappeared into the tunnel, I thought to myself, "There goes my personal 'Miracle on 42nd Street.'" -- Michael Smith __________________________________________________ Michael lives in Idaho. Powers Each year my video production company is hired to go to Washington, DC with the eighth grade class from Clinton, Wisconsin where I grew up, to videotape their trip. I always enjoy visiting our nation's capitol, and each year I take some special memories back with me. But this fall's trip was especially memorable. On the last night of our trip, we stopped at the Iwo Jima memorial. It is the largest bronze statue in the world and depicts one of the most famous photographs in history -- the W.W.II image of the six brave men raising the American flag at the top of Mount Surabachi on the Island of Iwo Jima, Japan. About one hundred students and chaperones piled off the buses and headed toward the memorial. I noticed a solitary figure at the base of the statue, and as I got closer he asked, "What's your name and where are you guys from? I told him that my name was Michael Powers and that we were from Clinton, Wisconsin. "Hey, I'm a Cheesehead, too! Come gather around Cheeseheads, and I will tell you a story." James Bradley just happened to be in Washington, DC to speak at the memorial the following day. He was there that night to say goodnight to his dad, who has since passed away. He was just about to leave when he saw the buses pull up. I videotaped him as he spoke to us, and received his permission to share what he said from my videotape. It is one thing to tour the incredible monuments filled with history in Washington, DC but it is quite another to get the kind of insight we received that night. When all had gathered around he reverently began to speak. "My name is James Bradley and I'm from Antigo, Wisconsin. My dad is on that statue, and I just wrote a book called Flags of Our Fathers which is #5 on the New York Times Best Seller list right now. It is the story of the six boys you see behind me. Six boys raised the flag." That's when he pointed to the guy putting the pole in the ground and told us his name was Harlon Block. "Harlon was an all-state football player. He enlisted in the Marine Corps with all the senior members of his football team. They were off to play another type of game, a game called 'war.' But it didn't turn out to be a game. Harlon, at the age of twenty-one, died with his intestines in his hands." Bradley shared that detail with us because he said that generals stand in front of the statue and talk about the glory of war. "You guys need to know that most of the boys in Iwo Jima were seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen years old." He pointed again to the statue. "You see this next guy? That's Rene Gagnon from New Hampshire. If you took Rene's helmet off at the moment this photo was taken, you would find a photograph in the webbing. A photograph of his girlfriend. Rene put that in there for protection, because he was scared. He was eighteen years old. Boys won the battle of Iwo Jima. Boys. Not men." The next image on the statue was that of Sergeant Mike Strank, we learned. "Mike is my hero." Bradley exclaimed. "He was the hero of all these guys. They called him the 'old man' because he was so old. He was already twenty-four. When Mike would motivate his boys in training camp, he didn't say, 'Let's go kill the enemy' or 'Let's die for our country.' He knew he was talking to little boys. Instead he would say, 'You do what I say, and I'll get you home to your mothers.'" The next man on the statue was Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian from Arizona who lived through the terror of Iwo Jima. "Ira Hayes walked off Iwo Jima. He went into the White House with my dad and President Truman told him, 'You're a hero.' He told reporters, 'How can I feel like a hero when 250 of my buddies hit the island with me and only twenty- seven of us walked off alive?'" "So you take your class at school. Two hundred and fifty of you spending a year together having fun, doing everything together. Then all 250 of you hit the beach, but only twenty-seven of your classmates walk off alive. That was Ira Hayes. He had images of horror in his mind." We learned that Ira Hayes died dead drunk, face down at the age of thirty-two, ten years after the famous photo was taken. "The next guy, going around the statue, is Franklin Sousley from Hilltop, Kentucky, a fun-lovin' hillbilly boy," Bradley continued. "Franklin died on Iwo Jima at the age of nineteen. When the telegram came to tell his mother that he was dead, it went to the Hilltop General Store. A barefoot boy ran that telegram up to his mother's farm. The neighbors could hear her scream all night and into the morning. The neighbors lived a quarter of a mile away." Finally Bradley pointed to the statue's image of his father, John Bradley from Antigo, Wisconsin. His dad lived until 1994, but declined all interviews. "When Walter Kronkite, or the New York Times would call, we were trained as little kids to say, 'No, I'm sorry sir, my dad's not here. He is in Canada fishing. No, there is no phone there, sir. No, we don't know when he is coming back.' My dad never fished or even went to Canada. Usually he was sitting right there at the table eating his Campbell's soup, but we had to tell the press that he was out fishing. He didn't want to talk to the press. You see, my dad didn't see himself as a hero. Everyone thinks these guys are heroes, 'cause they are in a photo and a monument. My dad knew better. He was a medic. John Bradley from Wisconsin was a caregiver. In Iwo Jima he probably held over 200 boys as they died, and when boys died in Iwo Jima, they writhed and screamed in pain." Bradley recalled his third grade teacher calling the elder Bradley a hero. "When I went home and told my dad that, he looked at me and said, 'I want you always to remember that the heroes of Iwo Jima are the guys who did not come back. DID NOT come back.'" "So that's the story about six nice young boys, Bradley finished. "Three died on Iwo Jima, and three came back as national heroes. Overall, seven thousand boys died on Iwo Jima in the worst battle in the history of the Marine Corps. My voice is giving out, so I will end here. Thank you for your time." Suddenly the monument wasn't just a big old piece of metal with a flag sticking out of the top. It came to life before our eyes through the heartfelt words of a son who did indeed have a father who was a hero then ... and now. Michael T. Powers HeartTouchers@aol.com Copyright 2000 by Michael T. The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies."1 I read some time ago how a well-known television circus show developed a Bengal tiger act that was performed live before a large audience. One evening, the tiger trainer went into the cage with several tigers to do a routine performance. The door was locked behind him. The spotlights highlighted the cage, the television cameras moved in close, and the audience watched in suspense as the trainer skillfully put the tigers through their paces. In the middle of the performance, the worst possible fate befell the act: the power went out! For thirty long seconds the trainer was locked in with the tigers. In the darkness they could see him, but he could not see them. A whip and a small kitchen chair seemed meager protection under the circumstances. But he survived, and when the lights came on, he calmly finished the performance. In an interview afterward, he was asked how he felt knowing the tigers could see him but that he could not see them. He first admitted the chilling fear of the situation, but pointed out that the tigers did not know that he could not see them. He said, "I just kept cracking my whip and talking to them until the lights came on. And they never knew I couldn't see them as well as they could see me."2 Do you ever feel caught in the dark with the "tigers of your heart" or circumstances that seem to be out of your control? I sure have. Two things I do in these situations. First, I keep quoting today's Scripture, "The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" I'm sure David kept saying this when King Saul was out to kill him--and David couldn't know where he was most of the time. Second, I ask God to confront me with the truth and reality of what I might in any way be contributing to the situation I am in. It's not until I pray for what I am contributing to "my dark nights of despair" that I see the light--and know exactly what I need to do to change my circumstances wherever this is possible, or at least to overcome my tigers of fear. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, thank You that my life is in Your hands and that You are always with me in my dark days of despair just as You are in my happy days of rejoicing. Thank You, too, for Your promise that You will never leave me nor forsake me. Help me to always remember this, and trust my life to You, and be willing to face what I am contributing to my situation, change what I can change, and learn to accept joyfully what I cannot change. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus's name, amen." 1. Psalm 118:5-7 (NIV). 2. Thomas Lane Butts, cited on KneEmail, http://www.oakhillcoc.org/. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. Fear is good to alert you to doing what needs to be done. Like the story of the tiger trainer who being alerted to the danger he was in did not succumb to his fear, but used it in wisdom to defeat his fear and win the victory. I recall times when I was full of fear but would remember this verse... 'There is no fear in love' - I reminded myself that God is love - so if I was to be true to Him, I must not live in fear. I often used this verse to cast out the demons who were trying to fill my head with fear. Like the tiger trainer, I did not allow them to see my fear, but trusted in God and did not show them how petrified I really was. That is the weapon we use against our adversary. The bible is our sword. It is good to memorize verses for when you are in danger and you cannot think straight due to fear. You keep saying it over in your mind and the fear is replaced by God's love. Action speaks louder. The way you act is how the enemy perceives your level of fear. Like the tiger trainer was able to fool his tigers, you can fool the devil. The devil cannot read your mind. He however is most proficient at body language. Your actions show him your thoughts. Do not confuse the fear we are talking about here for the fear of God. God makes America Great! Without Him there would be no America, the land of the free, and the home of the brave. There would be no Statue of Liberty standing at the door, to welcome the world's downtrodden, friends or foe alike! Millions would not be fed food for their bodies and souls. There would be no freedom of the press. Last but not least, we would not have our Flag, to honor her greatness. I would like to share this poem I wrote about our flag. To me, it represents all that America stands for. She stands high up in the sky, Proudly waving, to and fro. A hope to all who pass her by, O'er a country that loves her so! Yes we love her, this flag of ours: Her Red, her White, her Blue We love her and we need her, To remind us to be true! She stands for peace and freedom, To all peoples, near and far. She gives hope, faith and comfort, When her soldiers go off to war! We see her fly against the Heavens, As the clouds around her roll, And when the sunbeams surround her, What a beauty to behold! We see her stars and stripes fly o'er us, In great beauty and great splendor, A reminder to all who see her, To love her and defend her! Yes, we love her, this flag of ours, Her Red, her White, her Blue. We love her and we need her, To remind us to be true! **************** Yes, God makes America great. Some hearts are faint and some other hearts are stout; some hearts are open while some hearts are closed: certain hearts are clean and certain hearts are mean: also warm and cold, faint and bold: hearts are light and hearts are heavy, some as heavy as stone. They beat as one- two hearts in waltz time. Other hearts are lonely hunters. Hearts are whole and hearts are broken; politics makes some hearts bleed. Pierced by Cupid, some are saddened; some, like a singing bird, are gladdened. Some are worn upon your sleeve. Hearts can be anywhere. Baker It was another sizzling summer day in Texas, and then, there he was! He was looking down at me and he was laughing! Well, I couldn’t hear him laughing, but I could tell by the expression on his face that he certainly was. I had been admiring the fluffy, dancing clouds, when in the blink of an eye; there appeared a gigantic, laughing snowman. Suddenly the heat didn’t even seem so unbearable and immediately I realized how seldom I take time to view the clouds, unless a storm is in the making. Watching the "laughing snowman" aloft in the sky brought nostalgic thoughts to mind. I was once again a child lying in cool, green grass looking for pictures in the clouds. The pictures were always there; they were just waiting for someone to look up and enjoy! And they still are, if we only remember to look. By the time my "laughing snowman" melted into oblivion my mind raced with a montage of fond remembrances, all passions from my childhood. He had come with a gift – an avalanche of wonderful childhood memories. No wonder he was happy and laughing; it is always better to give than receive! My very next thought was of fireflies, although I haven’t seen one in years. An entire evening could zip by while I scrambled to fill my faithful mason jar; always with holes punched in the lid so they wouldn't all drop dead. Before releasing them I would gaze into the twinkling jar; it was as if I had captured my very own piece of the nighttime heavens. Hopefully the kids of my generation didn’t catch all of them, every child should experience fireflies. They are magical little creatures. Then Big Chief tablets popped out of my memory bank. Each new one smelled better than the one before and the paper could never be duplicated. Somehow the soft texture, combined with my writing style, always made my cursive appear so very elegant. Well, at least I thought so at a young age. Not too many years ago I bought a Big Chief tablet, just to again have one in my possession. As I recall, I hid it once I got home! Next came visions of "gold stars" on grade school papers! Add one of those little gems to a homework assignment (that was completed on Big Chief tablet paper), and it was a thing of beauty. Maybe if they had continued passing out gold stars, I would have been more serious about my high school assignments. Somehow, receiving a written score didn’t pack near the thrill as gold stars, or even a silver one for that matter. And, jacks! Hours could zoom by without notice. It was a thrill when the oversized jacks first hit the marketplace, painted in striking iridescent colors. They were delightful as compared to the old original, drab-gray, metal jacks. Eventually the paint would begin to wear off and it was time for an exciting trip to the five and dime for shiny new ones. I can still feel the sensation of rummaging my hand to the bottom of the bin, raising it slowly, and letting them trickle through my fingers. Then came the serious and time-consuming job of picking out the perfect ones that had no chips on them already. Our garage floor was smooth like glass, which made playing the game with a golf ball ideal. Rubber balls just weren't the same, and I think part of it was the lack of sound. Golf balls clicking with each bounce gave the game such rhythm. Naturally, memories of coloring books came to mind. They also had their own distinct scent and I always took a sniff or two before tackling the first picture. If I was fortunate enough to have a new book and new box of crayons at the same time, I might as well have been floating on one of those clouds. Oh, how I hated when the perfect points on the crayons wore down to a rounded stump. They were just never the same after being sharpened with a paring knife. Those stumps made staying inside the lines nearly impossible and I was not satisfied with imperfection! Last but not least, was remembering that mother taught me everything I ever needed to know about chemistry, and my experiments took place in the kitchen sink. I was in awe when she demonstrated how to mix vinegar, soda, and food colorings. I loved the sizzling sound, the smell, and the brightly colored volcanoes erupting from different shaped containers. I tore the poor woman’s kitchen apart looking for interesting jugs, pots, bud vases, and the like! The food coloring stains I left in the sink made me wonder if mother bought Comet by the case. She loved that stuff, to the point of even using it on me! She thought it could clean anything and everything, including my elbows. Mercy, she couldn’t have a little girl with dingy elbows. Today she might end up in court for child abuse—using a "caustic substance" on her child. Well, my elbows seem just fine and I chuckle at the memory. Yes, a laughing snowman visited and brought a simple gift, one of long ago memories. For a short while I was transported back in time with many of my favorite things. Compared to today’s standards they probably seem mundane, but to me they are priceless and I’m glad they are mine. For me, a laughing snowman was the key that opened my treasure chest of remembrances. The ever-shifting clouds are always there, and I plan to spend more time looking for pictures! When given the chance I never pass up coloring, and vinegar and soda still give me quite a "kick." Actually, I have the cleanest disposal in town! Now if I just had some bugs, gold stars, and jacks… Lnstrlady@aol.com û2005 Kathleene S. He stood and addressed George Washington, saying: "Sir, we have not hitherto once thought of humbly appealing to the Father of Lights to illuminate our understanding. In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible to danger, we had daily prayers in this room for divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard and graciously answered. ... Do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see in this truth, that God governs the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice,* is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? ... We have been assured that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.** -- I firmly believe this." ... Lord, forgive us our arrogance as a nation for thinking that we can survive our present or build a future without You. Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star-Spangled Banner, but whatever they call me, I am your flag, the flag Of the United States of America. Something has been bothering me, so I thought I might talk it over with you- because it is about you and me. I remember some time ago, people would line up on both sides of the street to watch the parade, and naturally I was leading every one, proudly waving in the breeze. When your daddy saw me coming, he immediately removed his hat and placed it against his left shoulder so that his hand was directly over his heart-remember? And you, I remember, were standing there, straight as a soldier. You didn't have a hat, but you were giving the right salute. What happened? I'm still the same old flag. Oh I've added a few more stars since you were a boy, and lot more blood has been shed since those parades of long ago. But now, I don't feel as proud as I used to feel. When I come down your street, you stand there with you hands in your pockets. you may give me a small glance, And the small children don't seem to know who I am. I saw a man take his hat off, then looked around didn't see anyone else so he quickly put it back on. Is it a sin to be patriotic today??? Have you forgotten what I stand for??? and where I have been Guadalcanal, Korea and Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan!!! Take a look at the memorial honors and see the names of those Americans who gave their lives to keep us free. When you salute me you are saluting them. Well it won't be long till I'll come down your street again so when you see me place your hand over your heart and I will salute you by waving back! -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Harvest Moonbow! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/moonbow.html Lenticular Clouds! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/ufo.html Proud Of Troops 4! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/troops4.html Paper Sculpture! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/paper.html God's Night Lights! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/night.html World Of Peacocks! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/peacock.html Tale Of Two Swallows! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/swallows.html Thoughts Into Action! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/action.html Attitude Is Everything 2! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude2.html Floating Hotel! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/fhotel.html Backpack Cat! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/backpack.html Birth Of An Elk! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/elk.html Earth In Perspective http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/earth.html Military Motivational Pictures http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/military.html Heroes Truck http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/herotruck.html Jesus Clinic http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/clinic.html Freedom Isn't Free http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/freedom.html Liberty Air Show http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/liberty.html Troops Index: http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/911andtroopsindex.html -<>- Home Free - God Bless the U.S.A. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrMftm6Km3g America will Stand/Happy 4th http://www.wtv-zone.com/summerhoosier3/html2/America-Will-Stand.html Firework Rocket Mushroom (run for your life) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzMi6yf1Roc GoPro: Fireworks From A Drone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvkcqgpZJCw -<>- >In The News: Discounts for Veterans at Walgreens & ShopVCS.com, Virtual 4th of July Celebration, Student Resources https://tinyurl.com/ydx2hjev CIA did not verbally brief Trump on Russia report, says official https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53258965 Florida Gov. signs law requiring parental consent before girls can get abortions https://tinyurl.com/y8zlpquw Media is lying to us again: Newly Released Poll Shatters the Pro- Abortion Lobby’s Most Effective Argument https://tinyurl.com/ycoagw4u Tulsa officer dies, line of duty deaths up 46 percent in 2020 https://tinyurl.com/ydhfn5f8 EXCLUSIVE: Capitalism is the reason why we have racism, says Freedom Socialist Party member https://tinyurl.com/ycakmuke Australia’s Big New Military Buildup Helps U.S. Counter China https://tinyurl.com/ybsl3rrb Supreme Court Delivers Win for School Choice Movement https://tinyurl.com/ya5zvhye Here Are the Most Patriotic States in America https://tinyurl.com/yb9crap2 Here Are the Least Patriotic States in America https://tinyurl.com/y783crpe Protesters were arrested for chanting "Hong Kong Independence, the Only Way Out" and holding banners that read "Hong Kong Independence," which under the draconian law is illegal. https://tinyurl.com/y9cjnr42 Atheists Cry Foul After Trump’s Latest Move Standing Up for Christian Adoption Agencies https://tinyurl.com/y8u75bap Did the World Health Organization collude with China on the new coronavirus pandemic? When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at the Reno Airport, Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac. During the arrival of another Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport , Major Steve Beck described the scene as so powerful: 'See the people in the windows? They sat right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're on the plane that brought him home,' he said 'They will remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.' -+- The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. 'I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it,' she said. 'I think that's what he would have wanted'. -+- RED Fridays. Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing RED every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority' We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something RED. By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of RED much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is .'We need your support and your prayers.' Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something RED every Friday. IF YOU AGREE -- THEN SEND THIS ON. IF YOU COULDN'T CARE LESS -- THEN HIT THE DELETE BUTTON. BET YOU DON'T! YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM. That He left the church here, and the church is the only group of people and the church is the only institution in the world that can bring about a change. This government cannot do it, so stop depending on the government. Educational systems cannot do it, so stop trusting educational systems. In fact, there is a really alarming verse that points to this. It is Revelation 3:1, "And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, 'These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: "I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead." WOW! That was written to a church that on the outside looked like they had it all together! They had a reputation of being a living, vibrant church! People who saw them went to seminars to find out how they were doing it, and people applauded them for their success. But Jesus says, "You're dead!" The Knox Bible puts it this way, "How thou dost pass for a living man and all the while art a corpse." The Living Bible says, "I know your reputation as a live and active church, but you're dead." You see, activity is not synonymous with life. Sometimes people and churches that are decaying spiritually cover it up with activity. They are still "going through the motions," but there is really a spiritual decay eating away inside. People think they are doing great, but Jesus sees right to the heart of the matter, both in our individual lives and in the Church. May God keep you and me from being so mislead. May we look to Him always for our daily bread, recognizing and acknowledging that every blessing we possess, every stride of progress we make, is the result of His goodness and His grace alone. He is the One whose view really matters! SUBSCRIBE INFO Want to receive a Christian inspirational item AND great clean humor in an email to you each day of the week? It's easy and FREE! I can't worry about the future it's today that I must live; To make each moment count through the love that I can give. Little acts of kindness, a smile or a gentle touch May seem so insignificant but to that someone who is lonely they can mean so much! If I live each day as if it were my last day here on earth, And live like Jesus wants me to then my life will have some worth. My name won't be remembered for my fortune or my fame... But how I treated others when into my life they came. I would want to be remembered simply, as a child of God, Who served her Heavenly Father and in His footsteps trod! One who showed His love and compassion to all, not just a chosen few; Going that extra mile to lift up that one who is in need and share with them the hope God gives which makes each day brand new!
