Americans saw plenty of Washington at its worst this year, with one party in Congress obsessed with a partisan impeachment stunt and obstructing progress at every turn. But despite getting no help from the far left, America today is soaring to new heights. It’s tough to pick only 10 accomplishments from such an extraordinary year, but here are just a few of the biggest things President Donald J. Trump has gotten done for the American people in 2019: 1. The Trump Boom is going strong. The unemployment rate recently hit its lowest mark in 50 years. All told, since President Trump’s election, our economy has added more than 7 million jobs—over half a million in manufacturing alone. 2. The stock market keeps breaking records: The Dow Jones and S&P 500 hit record closes again on Friday. 3. The working class is thriving, as are previously forgotten communities. Wages are now rising the fastest for low-income workers, and poverty rates for African Americans and Hispanic Americans have reached all-time lows. 4. Accountable government is back. Since taking office, President Trump has rolled back nearly 8 regulations for every new one, saving American taxpayers more than $50 billion in the process—with bigger savings still to come. 5. Better trade deals are putting America back in the driver’s seat. Congress approved President Trump’s USMCA this month—a huge win for U.S. workers, farmers, and manufacturers that will create 176,000 new jobs. 6. Trade with China in particular is about to get a whole lot fairer. As part of a historic “phase 1” deal, Beijing has agreed to structural reforms in its trade practices and to make substantial purchases of American agricultural products. 7. Securing the border is paying off and making our country safer. President Trump struck new agreements with Mexico and Central American countries this year to help stop the flood of illegal immigration. Thanks to this swift action, border apprehensions fell by more than 70 percent from May to November. 8. On health care, President Trump is fighting to give our patients the best system on Earth. While Democrats try to take away choice, the President’s focus on affordability led to the largest year-over- year drop in drug prices ever recorded. 9. American interests are taking center stage abroad. In just one example: After years of not paying their fair share, NATO Allies will have increased defense spending by $130 billion by the end of next year. 10. Our great military took out the world’s top terrorist in October. (Meet Conan, the hero dog who helped them do it!) Our troops are now getting the support they deserve. President Trump recently signed the National Defense Authorization Act for the 2020 fiscal year, which includes the biggest pay raise for our military in a decade. On behalf of President Trump and his entire Administration, have a blessed and wonderful New Year! -<>- >-->HOT Off The 'Shangy' Press :) This smoking hot new page is from our friend LouiseAu And my daughter Tammy. With caller ID I knew it couldn't be good news from my mother. "Diane, your sister has been life-flighted to Scranton. There's been an accident. I received a call from the hospital. Right now she's being operated on. That's all I know." "I'm on my way, mom." The drive was 45 minutes, and we had no idea what caused the injury. Was it a car accident? No information was released. Waiting patiently for hours in the waiting room, a brain surgeon came out and gave us the grim news. Her prognosis was she was brain dead, with little hope of survival. A passing motorist saw her lying on the road and called 911. I remembered seeing her lying there in a coma, with life support allowing her chest to rise with each breath. I remembered watching my watching mother reaching for her daughter's hand, and sobbing at the sight of her swollen bandaged head. Joni died at age 45, an unsung hero who donated her organs in spite of the cruel and calculated attempts of a cover-up from a hit- and-run driver. My sister was a giver, even in her death. Eventually police were able to gather forensic evidence which led the man to turn himself in weeks later. Naturally any blood alcohol could not be traced. Before the actual sentencing we received word from a married gentleman with one child who received my sister's heart. The transplant went well and Joni's heart had immediate function. He was very thankful for the opportunity to still have time to spend with his family. Her bone marrow and tissue along with her kidneys were able to help countless others. It was up to me to face the judge, and the man who left her on the road to die. I remember my final words to the court were something like this: "I conclude your honor with an imploring plea from my family that you will consider the maximum penalty on behalf of my sister and our family. It cost my sister her all -- we believe it should cost him his all." Being the oldest child I don't know what was more heartbreaking. Losing my sister, or watching the devastating effects it was having on my parents. The judge told me what the state sentencing guidelines required him to hand down. I had already done my homework and was prepared for the slap on his wrist. He faced a one year prison sentence for the murder of my sister! The reporters who followed me out of the courtroom asked if I was satisfied. My statement was, "I believed the judge did all he could do because of state legislation. I don't believe the sentence was enough, but I know he did the best he could." I had been researching night after night. Something was wrong with Pennsylvania hit-and-run laws. There was a loop hole that was allowing people to get away with murder! When I stumbled across the hit-and-run laws of all 50 states, my crusade began. Armed with information and statistics, I was prepared to wage war, and phoned WILK talk show host Sue Henry and was soon invited as a guest speaker the day after my sister's killer was sentenced. A few days later the local news headlines read: "CRUSADE to change PA. Hit-and-run law gets lawmakers' attention. Sister's death moves Velikis to close loophole." Periodic contact and updates continued. We are still waiting for a bill to be passed. The the ball is in motion. It still needs to be presented before the house, but God used me and my sister as a vessel. Finally, now I have peace. The two things we did have in common were writing, and I know had it been me lying on the road that day, she'd have been trying to do something -- anything -- to make this world a better place. -- Diane Velikis __________________________________________________ Diane is a Pennsylvania licensed realtor and has worked diligently to have Pennsylvania's hit-and-run laws changed. She caught the ear of her state representative, Phyllis Mundy, who wrote up a bill. In introducing the bill, State Rep. Mundy stated, "A drunk driver who hits someone and takes off, and is later tried and convicted on a hit-and-run charge, receives a lesser punishment than he would had he stayed at the scene to render assistance or simply faced up to what he did. This loophole makes no sense from a legal standpoint, and it certainly makes no sense to victims and their families." -<>- ,____ |---.\ ___ | ` / .-\ ./=) | |"|_/\/| ; |-;| /_| / \_| |/ \ | / \/\( | | / |` ) | / \ _/ | /--._/ \ | `/|) | / / | | .' | | jgs / \ | (_.-.__.__./ / >AN UNWANTED GUEST You know, I have never felt comfortable using the term survivor, when referring to myself, or any person who has had cancer and is still alive. A "survivor" to my way of thinking, is a person who has escaped from something -- an accident, a natural disaster, a plague -- like a tornado, a car accident, a small pox epidemic. And I do not think a host is engaged in a war, where they "fight" to "wage the battle" against the cancer within their body. The only military-esque similarity would be the weapons used -- deadly to what is good and what is bad. I look upon my own experience with cancer in a different light. I feel more like a domicile -- a place where cancer had taken up habitation as an unwanted tenant, an undesirable visitor in my abode. And, as directed by established procedure, I went through the necessary steps to evict that resident. But, as may be the record of any dwelling, living or dead, there is usually a good ghost story or two -- a haunting, if you will. So, as with many abodes with a few good years on them, the ghost of cancer past haunts my home, my body. Moreover, much like the Dickens' Christmas tale, the ghost of cancer present, or the ghost of cancer future may visit me. The ghost may decide not to leave, and I am, again, dealing with my unwelcomed inhabitant. Such is the case now. Two months ago I learned cancer has returned to take up residence in my body. I just finished 30 radiation (mis)treatments. In two weeks, I will begin taking chemo, all in an attempt to expel my unwanted guest. So, do I consider myself a survivor? No, I am more the landlord, a proprietor who is haunted by a phantom -- the specter of cancer -- which may or may not take up residence in my abode. And it is not a war, though weapons of mass destruction are used to rid one's body of the invasion. -- Kathy Pippig __________________________________________________ Kathy is an author and animal lover. I had changed tires before — that was no big deal — but I was worried about being accosted by another person while stuck on the side of the road, or being hit by a passing car. As I bent into the trunk, I heard a man's voice from behind and to my left. I have no idea what he said, because when I heard his voice I screamed, jumped over the guard rail, and ran toward the nearest building. After a moment I realized he wasn't following me, so I turned to see what he was doing. That's when I saw the van full of Boy Scouts parked in front of my car. And I saw the voice: their Scout Leader, a man in his mid-40s, removing the spare from my trunk to fix my flat! As I timidly walked back, I could hear him speaking to the boys, who by now were standing behind the guard rail. "See, boys," he said to them, "this young lady is terrified, and for good reason. Thousands of young women are attacked every year. Last month a girl was killed on Route 88 when her car broke down. It's dangerous to be a young woman alone in this world. She did the right thing running like that. This girl will NOT be found dead in a forest preserve, not if we can help it." He told the boys how they, as men, are responsible not only to treat women with respect, and as equals, but also to watch over and protect them. He told them that if they see another man harming a woman, they have a responsibility to try to stop him, or call the police. Once he made that point, he gave step-by-step instructions on safely changing a flat on the side of the road. Now, I don't know what the Boy Scout definition of a Scout Leader is. This man displayed the epitome of everything I'd want taught to my son in Boy Scouts, or anywhere. He took the time, not only to help one woman in distress, but to do his best to ensure that other women in need of help will receive it. I was so relieved he was there, with his ‘not on my watch' attitude. That Scout Leader may have saved my life that day. I'll never forget his mentioning the murdered girl, because I was thinking of that same incident. Who knows if the next person coming down the road wasn't the one who killed that other girl? Those boys learned a lot that day, and so did I. I'm so grateful there are still honorable, decent men out there. I witnessed one, teaching our youth to be honorable and decent, making the world a safer place for women, for our daughters, for everyone. by Caryl Vittorio --- ...Excellent story! A Great Lesson! She handed to each child a package, and in an instant was gone. Carl and Philip opened the packages and found in them two beautiful books, with pages as pure and white as the snow when it first falls. Many months passed and the Fairy came again to the boys. "I have brought you each another book?" said she, "and will take the first ones back to Father Time who sent them to you." "May I not keep mine a little longer?" asked Philip. "I have hardly thought about it lately. I'd like to paint something on the last leaf that lies open." "No," said the Fairy; "I must take it just as it is." "I wish that I could look through mine just once," said Carl; "I have only seen one page at a time, for when the leaf turns over it sticks fast, and I can never open the book at more than one place each day." "You shall look at your book," said the Fairy, "and Philip, at his." And she lit for them two little silver lamps, by the light of which they saw the pages as she turned them. The boys looked in wonder. Could it be that these were the same fair books she had given them a year ago? Where were the clean, white pages, as pure and beautiful as the snow when it first falls? Here was a page with ugly, black spots and scratches upon it; while the very next page showed a lovely little picture. Some pages were decorated with gold and silver and gorgeous colors, others with beautiful flowers, and still others with a rainbow of softest, most delicate brightness. Yet even on the most beautiful of the pages there were ugly blots and scratches. Carl and Philip looked up at the Fairy at last. "Who did this?" they asked. "Every page was white and fair as we opened to it; yet now there is not a single blank place in the whole book!" "Shall I explain some of the pictures to you?" said the Fairy, smiling at the two little boys. "See, Philip, the spray of roses blossomed on this page when you let the baby have your playthings; and this pretty bird, that looks as if it were singing with all its might, would never have been on this page if you had not tried to be kind and pleasant the other day, instead of quarreling." "But what makes this blot?" asked Philip. "That," said the Fairy sadly; "that came when you told an untruth one day, and this when you did not mind mamma. All these blots and scratches that look so ugly, both in your book and in Carl's, were made when you were naughty. Each pretty thing in your books came on its page when you were good." "Oh, if we could only have the books again!" said Carl and Philip. "That cannot be," said the Fairy. "See! they are dated for this year, and they must now go back into Father Time's bookcase, but I have brought you each a new one. Perhaps you can make these more beautiful than the others." So saying, she vanished, and the boys were left alone, but each held in his hand a new book open at the first page. And on the back of this book was written in letters of gold, "For the New Year." -<>- ~ ON IMMIGRATION ~ "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith, becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. Finally Florence's determination won out. She entered a school in Germany, took training as a nurse, and loved every moment of the hard life. Her mother never could understand Florence's insistence on working in the dirt, misery, and suffering of the hospitals of England. In the early 1800's many nurses were untrained, coarse, ignorant women who were sometimes cruel to their patients. But bad as conditions were in England, Florence soon would be involved in something worse. In 1854 the Crimean War broke out between Russia and Turkey. England sent troops to help Turkey, and soon the news came back that in the first battle thousands of English soldiers had been killed or wounded. Florence saw in this a still greater opportunity to help the sick. With permission from the War Department, she sailed with a party of nurses to Turkey. She thought she knew what she was getting into, but when she smelled the foul air of the barracks being used as a hospital, saw the dirt and the lack of common ordinary items she would need, such as bowls, towels, soap, chairs, and tables, she was appalled. Often the wounded men were left lying in the uniforms they had worn on the battlefield. Florence jumped right into the challenge. She didn't know about germs, but she knew about cleanliness. She set up a laundry, scrubbed the floors, organized a schedule for the nurses, including the preparation of good meals, and saw to it that the medicines and supplies sent to the hospital from England actually got to the wounded soldiers. After the war Florence determined that the whole army medical system must be reformed, and she saw that this was done. She helped establish an army medical school, as well as a top-notch nurse's training school. Florence Nightingale's determination hadn't let her take it easy when she was young, and that determination kept her busy and happy until she died at the age of 90. Her life was rich and full, because she determined to do her best. "Steal" a moment to help someone that is in worse shape than you are. 3. "Swear" that you will be a better person today than yesterday. 4. And last, but not least, when you "lie" down at night thank God you live in a country where you have religious freedom. A decision is made with the brain. A commitment is made with the heart. Therefore, a commitment is much deeper and more binding than a decision. best regards and Happy New Year to everyone --- ...A Great Resolution! Despite the loudly-voiced concerns of friends and family, I was actually in England, after an impulsive decision to embark on a solo trip around Great Britain for fifteen days. I had rented a blue Renault and had already been on the road for four days with no problems. I was in a country known for its liquid sunshine, and it hadn't even rained! The trip was going wonderfully, and I was excited to be visiting England and its breathtaking scenery. I was in the Lake District on tiny Kirkstone Pass, somewhere between Ullswater and Windemere, when something else breathtaking happened. A loud bang followed by the wheel jerking to the left jolted me from my reverie. I glanced back in my rearview mirror just in time to watch my hubcap go bouncing behind me. A blowout! It was caused by the low rock wall along the road designed to prevent people from pulling off onto the shoulder. Now, it was preventing me from moving out of the way of traffic as well. There I was, in the hot July sun, trapped on the tiny road, traffic heavy behind me, and no way to move the car. Cars began slowly passing me, and I got sympathetic looks from many of the drivers. One couple offered to take me to the nearest phone, but I was afraid to leave the rental car abandoned in the middle of the road. I stood there, dejected, amidst the glorious yellow and brown hues of the pass, barely noticing because I was too busy worrying how the rest of my vacation would turn out when a van pulled up behind me. The van had bright yellow kayaks on top. Two men jumped out. "What seems to be the problem?" the older man asked. I told him. He immediately took charge. He opened the trunk, unloaded my massive load of luggage, grabbed my spare tire, and despite the risks inherent in changing a tire on a narrow road at an angle, managed to change my tire in just a few minutes. I offered to pay them, but the older man told me to have a great vacation and drove off. I managed to get to the Ullswater lake, where my steamer was waiting. As I pulled off the dock, I saw the same two men, kayaking on the lake. They had taken time out of their vacation to help me in a moment of need. The older man saw me and waved. "You won't get a flat tire on that!" he yelled, laughing. I smiled and waved back. Although I never got their names, I'll be forever grateful to them for saving my vacation. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From LaughAndLift: "I am a member of the human race...I have a responsibility to my fellow humans, whatever their religion. And I am convinced that only Christ can meet the deepest needs of our world and our hearts. How would we answer? Did we include Him in our shopping sprees and holiday parties? Did we remember the blessing of His birth as we gathered around our Christmas dinner? Was His Name mentioned as we tore through gifts? Or was the Christmas story just an afterthought as we careened through the hectic weeks of December? "Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His Holy Name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—" (Psalm 103:1-2 NIV) In these verses David commands his soul to praise His God! He puts aside his kingly responsibilities, the concerns of his family, and the demands of his people to worship and praise Jehovah! Perhaps we should follow suit! As the world spirals out of control, we must stay grounded and focused on our King! We cannot be carried away with the things of the world, or caught up in its clutches of materialism and greed. Yes, we must be in the world, but we must not be of it! I pray in this coming week we would all prayerfully consider the coming New Year! Considering that Jesus could return any day now, we should be more focused on being God’s hands and feet in the earth in 2020! Our Spiritual priorities should be much higher than our earthly aspirations! By focusing our “inmost being” on His Holy Name, we won’t lose sight of our primary mission of sharing the message of reconciliation between God and man (as 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 puts it). Once we remember that our God will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19), fear, anxiety and stress should be minimized! And when we can calm our soul with The Word, then worship comes quickly and ministry usually follows: a secret satan does NOT want you to know! Because IF he can keep us bound with earthly concerns, then the concerns of The Kingdom take second place. And I don’t know about you, BUT I don’t want to be caught off guard when that trumpet blasts!!! I want to be found faithful and embracing all of the benefits of The Kingdom of God available in Christ! I don’t want to remember a manger once a year, or a Cross only on Easter. I don’t want to compromise the Truth of God’s Word with worldly traditions or thought, but I want the wonder and majesty of Jesus Christ to reign in my heart 365 days a year! I want to let The Holy Spirit consume me with His Presence and Power! I want to appropriate every drop of Blood that was spilled at Calvary and embrace the grace that was purchased there! I am a child of God and I belong to Him! And one day He will take me HOME for Eternity and I will live in His Presence forever! Beam me up Lord! And until that Day, may I live for You! Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue, Neither the adult ... nor the young. Give us patience and grace to endure And a stronger faith so we feel secure. Instead of remembering, help us forget The irritations that caused us to fret. Freely forgiving for some offense And finding each day a rich recompense. In offering a friendly, helping hand And trying in all ways to understand; That all of us whoever we are ... Are trying to reach an unreachable star. For the great and small ... the good and bad, The young and old ... the sad and glad Are asking today; Is life worth living? The answer is only in, loving and giving. For only Love can make man kind And Kindness of Heart brings Peace of Mind. By giving love, we can start this year To lift the clouds of hate and fear. --- ...I love her poems!
