God has a plan for all of us though, and we understand we are together because God brought us together for a reason. I have never questioned God for the health troubles I've had to deal with, and try an live in the present. I look forward to the future, but never blame God for what troubles I've had during my past. My name is David Welch, and I've been a diabetic since I was four years old. Since I was 23 I've had many health problems -- blindness, loss of my kidneys, open heart surgery, and now I'm in a wheelchair. The one thing I have enjoyed doing since my health has declined is to use my computer with a screen reading program for the blind. One evening, I downloaded a program I had heard about called Freedom Chat, which was for blind people. Chat programs are something I really never enjoyed, but I'm so glad this time I tried it out. I didn't call anyone when I got online, but I received a private message from a young lady asking who I was. We started chatting and we both had health problems and felt comfortable with our conversation. Come to find out she was legally blind in one eye and completely blind in the other, along with being deaf in one ear. She had Lupus which had created many of her health problems. We chatted several times as the weeks went by, but neither of us thought much more of it than just a friendly conversation. I found out that she was from Thailand, but had become an American citizen nearly twenty years earlier. Her name was Nualanong Pumyam, but wanted to be called an American name, Nicole. Nicole mentioned to me that she was in school still working on her English, and computer skills using JAWS, the same screen reading program that I was using, and I thought I could help her out with her school work. We spent many evenings on the phone, with free long distance service, working on the computer skills, and her English. I had no problem helping her with her computer skills -- but hey, I probably need a little help at times myself with English! The one thing I kept telling her, was she should never trust anyone that she chats with. I told her many times she should go out and enjoy her life, but never agree to meet some guy that she was talking with over the Internet. I wanted Nicole to understand that meeting someone she had been chatting with over the computer could be very dangerous! As time went by the two of us started feeling much closer, and she said she would love to see what Kentucky was like. We managed to arrange for a plane ticket so she could visit Glasgow, Kentucky, where I live. Yes, we did exactly what I had been preaching for her to never do, and brought her to my hometown. With help from my brother driving me to the airport in Nashville, we picked up Nicole. It didn't take her long to notice a big difference between the people in San Jose, California, and the southern hospitality of the people that she would meet here in Kentucky. She said the people in Glasgow all seemed so friendly, and she fell in love with the town. The visit turned into a move to Glasgow, and she has never returned to California since. Actually, as I mentioned, Nicole fell in love with Glasgow, but we fell in love with each other as well. We have been together now for four years, and we have built a good life with one another, and on July 5, 2009, Nicole became my bride. I may not have the ability to always provide her with material things, like other men might give their girlfriend or wife, but we certainly give each other loyalty, respect, happiness, and most significantly... love! -- David Welch =========================================================== >-->From CupO'Cheer: __ / \ /'. / | Some bunny loves you! ||'.\| | || \\ / /\ __ /^\/^\ \\ \\'```'-._ ; | /\ \ \ / \'./` __ `P | _/ /\_| `\/` \ .__|' ` -.| | ,' \ /^\/^\ \ .| - - | \ / \____,..-` \ _Y_ __/ `\/` / / `---'"""` `\ \| . __.._/ | '-.__.-""``.-./ |\ | ( _.'` |\ || .-| `` || || | ; || // jgs '-'\ //` `"""""""""`"""""` >THE HAPPY BOOK By Jennifer Quasha Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day. ~Author Unknown I've spent a lot of my life unhappy. Looking back there were times that it was okay to feel that way, for example when my parents got divorced, when I was mugged at gunpoint during a vacation, when two friends died in a car accident when I was in high school, and when I was brutally assaulted in my early twenties. But there were the other times, too. In middle school I didn't think that I was as smart as everyone else; I didn't have cool enough clothes; my mother dropped me off at school in a beat-up car. Junior high was the same. I wasn't as tall and thin as all the other girls; my baby teeth hadn't fallen out yet; and where were my boobs? Fast forward to high school. Still the boys had eyes for others; still everyone was smarter; still everyone dressed better. Yes, my boobs had finally arrived, but somehow that paled in comparison to everything else. In my first job out of college I wasn't making as much money as my friends; my apartment wasn't as nice; when I looked around there was always something to feel miserable about. I come from a long line of people who have suffered from diagnosable depression. When I was single, I assumed that was just who I was -- it was the genes I had been dealt. When I was twenty-four I met my husband. We got married three years later, and three years after that I had my first child. Once we had kids, my excuse of "it's-in-the-genes" didn't work so well for me anymore because that meant my kids were going to be depressed. And although I realize that that still might be the case, I began looking at my unhappiness in a new way. It was something I had to work on myself. Over the years many things have helped me fight depression: healthy eating, exercise, fresh air, friends, volunteering, church, therapy and medicine. It all helps. But I have a little secret, too. It's an exercise that I do every night before bed. By the side of my bed I have a small datebook. It covers January to December, but it's small -- every day only has enough space to write one line. Every night I ask myself this question: "What made me the happiest today?" Because I don't have space to write very much it seems easy, and it only takes me a few seconds. But in those seconds I replay my day and decide on its happiest moment. Some days I come up with answers I expect, and other days I find myself surprised. Some days it's: "my husband came home early," "reading before bed with the kids," "laughing with a friend on the phone," "getting a parking space when I was late... Right in front!" And some days aren't as easy and it's: "finally getting to get into bed," "being able to stay calm during a fight with my daughter," "not having to cook dinner -- again." But the spin on my life has changed. I actively seek the positive. Every day. And sometimes, if I have a sour day, I look back through the book, read, and remember those happy moments in the past. In fact, I wish I had started my happy book back in middle school. Entries might have been: "I don't need braces like everyone else," "I caught Charlie S. Looking at me today," and "I didn't trip when I went up on stage to receive my Most Improved Player award." --- .-.*_, ."". ."". {*(,\}/___ .-"-, | ' | `;)@\*|" `", _.' \ \ / ."". ."". I was just talking about this with my daughter. It seems the world makes it easy for us to think of the bad things that happen and dwell on them so that we are unhappy and enfluance others around u by our grumpiness. Most people, however, like this woman, at the end of day can think of one thing good that happened during their day. If we think about our situations, we can think of many good things to be thankful to God for. It is what the bible instructs us to do in straight forward to the point no nonsense instruction or room for private interpretation... Col.3: [15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. [17] And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. 1 Thes.5: [18] In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. So when I say my prayers, I do as instructed. I ask for blessings for me and my love and I thank God for them. At the end of the day, I think of all the ways in which God blessed me during the day by helping me through and I thank Him for each one. We have much to be grateful for if we throw away the dark thoughts and think of the good things, they will turn our frown around and er will be healthier and happier for it. , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' Here is one of my favorite teachings to help you... Be Ye Thankful: There are many places throughout the Bible where we are exhorted to be thankful to God for all He has done for us. Even if it seems like times are bad, and we appear to be in the midst of problems, if we are thankful, it is all much easier to bear. Perhaps it is like the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. One sees the glass of water as half full, the other as half empty. The thankful person is happy to have the half full glass of water. What does God do for us that we should be thankful? Even in the Old Testament there are records of giving thanks. http://www.absolutebiblestudy.com/Basics/Be_Ye_Thankful.htm More of my favorite teachings - For Valentine's Day... When our darkness within transforms to light And our eyes have the luster of a star. We must always pray for the lost among us Who eagerly race toward the wrong direction. So they may know their own repentance Blessed by God's, grace, love and protection. All of heaven's heroes have suffered remorse >From hate, fear, lust, loneliness and war. They do what they do with deliverance of heart Defeating the dark side of life and more. Noah found safety within the beams of his ark To endure heaven's cleansing of earth. Moses the deliverer, climbed a mountain Descending with God's guidelines of worth. David the shepherd, a boy among men Slew evil's giant with a flying stone. Samson the strong man, broke from his chains Toppling the temple with God's help alone. Jonah was swallowed by a monster fish To be cast up on shore with a prophecy to tell. Jesus of Nazareth was nailed to the cross And without his forgiveness we're doomed to fail. Lord I'll feel blessed to greet all your heroes When it is my time to escape my woes. Zoe is a rottweiler who went through training and a great deal of testing to receive the title of "therapy dog". She also has a Canine Good Citizen certificate. However, the therapy that she does is really quite different than most work that therapy dogs do. The R.E.A.D. (Read Education Assistance Dogs) program helps children work on their reading skills. It may sound silly, but children read aloud to dogs. And it works! Children who are slow readers are embarrassed to read aloud in front of peers who may ridicule them. Reading shouldn't be stressful. It should be fun! And who knows better about fun and how to be an attentive pal than a dog? This is where Zoe comes in. Zoe sits quietly and listens while children read to her. With Zoe's unwavering attention, the children feel she is soaking up every word. Judy writes that she and Zoe have been doing this work for three years and to date 130 children have moved up in reading levels under Zoe's watchful gaze. Instead of feeling like outcasts, the children feel like they are given special treatment with a dog for a friend. Judy has watched many shy children go from low slow embarrassed reading to excited participation. She feels that Zoe has opened a door for many children who have gone from hating to read to loving to read books. Judy is proud to have such an amazing companion who does such wonderful work. -<>- ...... ...... .:oOOOOo:. .:oOOOOo:. .:oOO:'':Oo:. .:oO:'':OOo:. .:oO: 'Oo:oO' :Oo:. :oO: 'o' :Oo: :oO: :Oo: ':oO: V A L E N T I N E :Oo:' ':oO: :Oo:' ':oO. .Oo:' ':oO. .Oo:' ':oO. .Oo:' ':oO. .Oo:' jgs 'oO:Oo' 'oOo' 'o' >Valentines Day With Jesus Jesus does not send perfume To linger in the air Instead He sends salvation, sweet To show how much He cares. Mazzella "Get on the Fast Track to success in life Now!" These were the words blaring out of my car radio when I turned my engine on the other day. I didn't wait to hear what it was advertising before I switched to another station. The fast track in life has never been for me anyway. I have always found my own success in life on the slow track. Being on the slow track gives me time to talk to my friends and be with my family. It lets me watch the sun rise in the morning sky and set at the end of the day. It gives me moments to sip coffee and laugh at the comics in the newspaper. It reminds me to stop and sniff the dogwoods and flowers in the Spring, walk barefoot in the grass in the Summer, romp in the leaves in the Fall, and make snow angels every Winter. It helps me to keep my arms, hands, and face in good shape by giving me plenty of time to hug my kids, pet my dogs and cats, and smile at all of life's simple pleasures. It allows me to take long walks on warm evenings and feel the breeze on my face. It lets me read uplifting books, listen to beautiful music, and dare to sing along myself. Most of all it gives me time to pray. It gives me time to thank God everyday for my life. It gives me time to ask for His help in loving others, spreading joy, and growing in oneness with Him. Being on the slow track helps me to be the person I was meant to be, to do the things I was meant to do, and to learn the wisdom I was meant to learn. That to me is what true success in life is all about. The slow track may be a quiet path. It may be the road less traveled. But it is a path that is full of love and joy and its road leads to eternity. If you are on the fast track in your own life perhaps you might want to take a detour. The slow track may not make you a lot of money, but it will make your heart smile. The slow track may not help you to gain the whole world, but it will help you to keep your soul. -<>- .-"""-. .-"""-. / `..' \ | | | H A P P Y | \ VALENTINE'S / __\ D A Y ! / _ / |`\ /' | \ \/_/ `\ /' \_\| / __ `\ /' \/_/__\ `\/' .--='/~\ ____,__/__,_____,______)/ /{~}}} -,-----,--\--,-----,---,\'-' {{~}} jgs __/\_ '--=.\}/ /_/ |\\ \/ >A Special Valentine My Valentine is specially for you, Not frilly, not syrupy and sweet, Not large in size to show the world, Just expressing My love to you. But it is sometimes hard to hear the message when it is broadcast by equipment that is dirty, corroded and abused. Carver was born 150 years ago, before we used terms like toxic waste, air pollution, global warming and deforestation. Today, we have figured out that we need to take good care of the broadcasting station if we are to hear what the Divine is saying. This is a beautiful and fragile planet we live on. As much as we can fall in love with magnificent sunsets and pristine landscapes, few people have ever experienced its beauty as acutely as those who've seen it from afar. Senator Jake Garn was one of those privileged people. He observed earth aboard Discovery Space Shuttle and wrote of that experience in "Parade Magazine" (11-3-85). "I know now what if feels like to be out of this world," he said. "The experience is exhilarating, breathtaking, awesome. No. Those words aren't strong enough; space flight is indescribable." Listen to these words from his space diary: "I was overcome by the beauty of the earth below. I don't think the words exist to convey what it's like to see the earth from space. The curve of the earth, the swirling eddies, the patterns of clouds marbling the surface above the brilliantly blue color of the water and the blue-green of the land.the sheer beauty of the earth and the excitement of being in a position to see it made this the greatest experience of my life. Using binoculars, I once counted 22 discernible layers of blue in the band of sunrise color that would be seen from earth simply as blue." This is indeed a beautiful and fragile planet. But it's changing. And we humans are the cause of much of it. George Burns once quipped, "I can remember when the air was clean and s%x was dirty." All right, he lived to be 100, but we can bring those days of clean air back. We can live simply and responsibly. We can walk gently upon the face of the earth. And with our broadcasting station once again in good order, I think I know what we'll hear God saying: "Thank you." It was pouring buckets of cats and dogs, and I was soaked! My watch said midnight but it wasn't that dark because it was a commercial area. "Good. I'll be home soon," I thought as I saw the #220 heading north toward me. "You want this bus?" the operator asked, looking down disdainfully at me from behind the wheel. "Yes." I decided not to say I liked showering outside at midnight in my clothes. "I can't pick you up when your wheelchair is not up on the island." "I travel this way at least four times a day and no other drivers have any problem letting the lift go all the way to the street," I explained as politely as possible. I knew I had to be nice -- the driver had the power to leave me. Most people wouldn't believe this could happen, but I knew better. "I don't care what other drivers do. I know the policy. I know what this bus will do, and I cannot pick you up," the driver snapped while she kept her well-manicured talons on the steering wheel. She slammed the door and sped away. All I could do was watch the bus drive off while I was left on the street, getting more drenched with each passing minute. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, three people appeared. "Did that driver just do what we thought we saw? Drive off without you?" one man asked. "Yes," I stammered, trying not to shiver with the cold. "Did you get her badge number?" a woman inquired. "No, she wouldn't give it to me, but I have the bus number, time, and location. I will report her first opportunity I get." "Here," a second man said, "Let us help you get dried off. We'll wait here until the next bus comes for you." As they all pitched in to dry me off, I couldn't figure out where these people came from -- let alone how they found all their supplies so quickly. They put each of my legs in a plastic garbage bag to keep me from absorbing any more water. They made another bag into a scarf, and draped towels around my shoulders for warmth and protection. They gave me coffee which was hot, with just the right amount of cream and sugar: the perfect antidote for this blustery night. The first man wrote down what he had observed, and compared notes with me. Gratitude threatened to overwhelm me. At 12:30 a.m. the next bus came along, and as I'd done countless times before, I boarded it when the driver put down the ramp for me. As this happened in 1987 I've long forgotten their names, but my gratitude to those three people is still fresh. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From LaughAndLift: When does proper desire become coveting? I think we can put the answer down simply: desire becomes sin when it fails to include the love of God or men. Further, I think there are two practical tests as to when we are coveting against God or men: first, I am to love God enough to be contented; second, I am to love men enough not to envy." - Francis Schaeffer -<>- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >Looking For Love (By Barbara Sanders) [Edited] Jude 1:21 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." Valentine's Day is upon us once again. With it comes cards, candy, or flowers from our husbands, boyfriends, spouses. Also coming with this approaching day is the fact that not everyone is comfortable with Valentine's Day. Not everyone is fortunate to have a husband, spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Or perhaps some have chosen to live a single life. This is a secular holiday - nothing wrong with celebrating our love for one another. But have you heard the song, Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places? Seems to fit right in here, especially with those that don't feel loved, loving, or have never 'met' their one true love. Perhaps they have looked in the wrong places for love, like chasing a dream and never finding it. Most of us want to be loved, but we rarely realize that what we really have is a longing to be able to be at peace with ourselves. God will give us this peace. We need only ask. But first, let's find HIS LOVE. God loved you before you were born. He loved us all much more than we'll ever be able to perceive. John 3:16, as you may know, says "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." He's here today, calling out to the lost, the unloved, the oppressed, the frustrated, those who know no peace - He wants to 'love' you as no other can love. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3) Why not come to God through Jesus now, confessing your sins, believing that Jesus died for you, and God raised Him up to go to the Father - and that HE is there at this very moment, at the right hand of the Father. He is the propitiation for your sins and He brings Grace through faith, a free gift, to all of them 'that believe'. Romans 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;" Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Our Heavenly Father said I LOVE YOU by sending His Son Jesus Christ, to become the 'the way, the truth, and the life'...for each of us. May you experience that LOVE today. "Heavenly Father, today, the day we celebrate the earthly holiday for love, may you draw those that feel lost, without hope, without love, and are searching for the true love they've never known. May you fill their life with love, joy, peace, and all the things for which they've searched for years and never found. Give them the kind of peace and love that only can be found through your Son, Jesus Christ. We give you thanks for the love we feel today and thank you for sending LOVE by way of your only begotten Son to the lost and dying world today. May you guide those who are lost to your love and salvation through Jesus Christ the Lord. We give you praise, honor and glory. In Jesus Christ's glorious name, we pray. Amen." -<>- , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >My Child... I found a house I loved But others got there first I was angry, then relieved When I heard the pipes had burst! Yesterday, I found the perfect dress But the color was too pale Today, I found the dress in red Would you believe, it was on sale! I know you're watching over me And I'm feeling truly blessed For no matter what I pray for You always know what's best! I have this circle of E-mail friends, Who mean the world to me; Some days I "send" and "send", At other times, I let them be. When I see each name download, And view the message they've sent; I know they've thought of me that day, And "well wishes" were their intent. I am so blessed to have these friends, With whom I've grown so close; So this little poem I dedicate to them, Because to me they are the "Most"! So to you, my friends, I would like to say, Thank you for being a part; Of all my daily contacts, This comes right from my heart. God bless you all is my prayer today, I'm honored to call you "friend"; I pray the Lord will keep you safe, Until we write again. God Bless (¯`v´¯) `*.¸.*´ ¸.•´¸.•*¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ .•´ ¸¸.•¨¯`•.
