God has a plan for all of us though, and we understand we are together because God brought us together for a reason. I have never questioned God for the health troubles I've had to deal with, and try an live in the present. I look forward to the future, but never blame God for what troubles I've had during my past. My name is David Welch, and I've been a diabetic since I was four years old. Since I was 23 I've had many health problems -- blindness, loss of my kidneys, open heart surgery, and now I'm in a wheelchair. The one thing I have enjoyed doing since my health has declined is to use my computer with a screen reading program for the blind. One evening, I downloaded a program I had heard about called Freedom Chat, which was for blind people. Chat programs are something I really never enjoyed, but I'm so glad this time I tried it out. I didn't call anyone when I got online, but I received a private message from a young lady asking who I was. We started chatting and we both had health problems and felt comfortable with our conversation. Come to find out she was legally blind in one eye and completely blind in the other, along with being deaf in one ear. She had Lupus which had created many of her health problems. We chatted several times as the weeks went by, but neither of us thought much more of it than just a friendly conversation. I found out that she was from Thailand, but had become an American citizen nearly twenty years earlier. Her name was Nualanong Pumyam, but wanted to be called an American name, Nicole. Nicole mentioned to me that she was in school still working on her English, and computer skills using JAWS, the same screen reading program that I was using, and I thought I could help her out with her school work. We spent many evenings on the phone, with free long distance service, working on the computer skills, and her English. I had no problem helping her with her computer skills -- but hey, I probably need a little help at times myself with English! The one thing I kept telling her, was she should never trust anyone that she chats with. I told her many times she should go out and enjoy her life, but never agree to meet some guy that she was talking with over the Internet. I wanted Nicole to understand that meeting someone she had been chatting with over the computer could be very dangerous! As time went by the two of us started feeling much closer, and she said she would love to see what Kentucky was like. We managed to arrange for a plane ticket so she could visit Glasgow, Kentucky, where I live. Yes, we did exactly what I had been preaching for her to never do, and brought her to my hometown. With help from my brother driving me to the airport in Nashville, we picked up Nicole. It didn't take her long to notice a big difference between the people in San Jose, California, and the southern hospitality of the people that she would meet here in Kentucky. She said the people in Glasgow all seemed so friendly, and she fell in love with the town. The visit turned into a move to Glasgow, and she has never returned to California since. Actually, as I mentioned, Nicole fell in love with Glasgow, but we fell in love with each other as well. We have been together now for four years, and we have built a good life with one another, and on July 5, 2009, Nicole became my bride. I may not have the ability to always provide her with material things, like other men might give their girlfriend or wife, but we certainly give each other loyalty, respect, happiness, and most significantly... love! -- David Welch =================================================================== .-""""--. _ _ / ) ( \/ ) / --"` \ / _ _ / _`:____ \/ ( \/ ) | .-' `\ \ / \ / .----'./ \/ \ : ,-' ~(.).)\ _ _ \_| \ ._) | ( \/ ) _ _ / | \.__, / \ / ( \/ ) _.--' )`///-,-' _ _ \/ \ / / / _| (_\\ ( \/ ) \/ | (____/____) \ / \ ___/ | _ \/ `---( ` ) `-, .' Orlikowski Joyce Schowalter It was sometime in the 1980s, in the southern United States, inside a huge retail store. My job was to sell appliances, which were located in front of the optical shop. A large optical chain owned this store inside a store. There was something unusual about the man who ran the shop. He greeted everyone with a true smile, sometimes hugged his customers, and some old ladies received a hug and a kiss on hands. Men thought he was a flirting man. He was irritating because he was different. First, he was foreign and projected an image of a self confident, happy man. It seemed nothing could subdue him. For us, the southerners, this was hard to understand. How could this young man in his thirties, foreign, clearly speaking with a foreign accent, be so free of fear? At times he clearly violated his company's policies or the host store's policies. People wondered what it was that made him not enslaved to the ridiculous and often heartless policies of the top managers somewhere in distant northern cities? One day an old black man walked through the entrance of the optical store. The man was clearly poor, with broken black frames in his hand. Moving slowly, unsure of himself, he walked into the middle of the shop, he stopped a few steps in front of the optical manager's desk. The manager was sitting buried in some paperwork. It was only a moment, then he saw this old black man. The young man raised immediately and approached the old man. He warmly shook hands with the old man and sat him down. Broken glasses were laid on the table. Interested in what would happen, I put up a sign "Be back in 10" and walked into the optical shop. Truth be told, the management had told me to spy on the young man, and I did report from time to time on some of his unusual behaviors. The optician took the broken glasses in his hands and said the glasses could not be repaired. The old man asked how much new glasses like these would cost, the answer was $89. The face of the old man saddened. Seeing this, the optician took the glasses went into the back room, checked the power of the lenses and came back with a smile. "I have a solution, go to the local drug store, and buy two exactly like these, one with this power and another with this power and come back. I will make you two pairs just like these". The old man asked, "How much will this be?" The optician said "Nothing". The fact that the optician did not sell new glasses to this man was clearly a violation of all sales policies, with serious consequences. It was never reported. Ever since that time I have become a different man. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From CupO'Cheer: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ /` \/ `\ _ _ /` \/ `\ _ _ /` \/ `\ _ _ /` \/ `\ _ _ \ / /` \/ `\ \ / /` \/ `\ \ / /` \/ `\ \ / /` \/ `\ '. .' \ / '. .' \ / '. .' \ / '. .' \ / \/ '. .' \/ '. .' \/ '. .' \/ '. .' jgs \/ \/ \/ \/ >WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR A NEW COLLEGE STUDENT? By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services Q: By the time you get this, I'll be in college, and the truth is I'm kind of scared. It'll be my first time away from home (I worked after high school), and I'm not even sure I've made the right decision. Do you have any advice for me? -- P.R. A: The most important thing I can urge you to do is to put your life into God's hands and seek His will for your life. God loves you, and He cares even more about your future than you do. If you have never done so, invite Christ into your life and begin walking with Him every day. Then I urge you to assume that this is where God wants you right now, unless He clearly tells you otherwise. In other words, don't constantly ask yourself if you made the right decision or question whether or not this is where you ought to be. Learn to look forward instead of backward, and thank God for the new opportunities and experiences He is opening up for you. God often directs our paths even when we aren't aware of it; we only realize it later. In addition, don't be distracted by all the social activities that are probably going on around you, and keep yourself from sin. Seek out other Christians on your campus also; they can help you adjust and learn to live for Christ. Be diligent in your studies, but also take time to relax. Most of all, seek God's will for your future -- your career, your relationships, everything. The Bible says, "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:6). God knows what is best for you, and life's greatest joy comes from knowing Christ and following Him every day. -<>- ,;;;;;;\ ,;;;;;;, ,;;;@@@@@/ /;;@@@@@;;;, ,;;;@@,;;;\ \,@,;;;,@@;;;, ;;;@@;;;' '\ \;' ';;;@@;;; ;;;@@;;; / / ;;;@@;;; ;;;@@';;, \ \ ,;;'@@;;; ';;;@@';;,\ \;;'@@;;;' ';;;@@';/ /'@@;;;' jgs ';;;@/ /@@;;;' ';/ /;@;;' \;' >HOARDING WHAT YOU HAVE Wendy Pope "I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back." Matthew 25:25 (NLT) Devotion: Reality shows are the craze today. You can watch children with problems set on the straight and narrow by The World's Strictest Parents. If you are not happy with your spouse, you can Wife Swap for another spouse while millions watch. The world is also even now invited into the private moments of drug and alcohol interventions. One of the newest reality shows to hit the airwaves is called Hoarders. People on this show have made a lifestyle out of holding on to what they have. In Hoarders, individuals come face to face with the reality of their problem through intervention and encouragement to clear out their stuff. Our key verse comes from a story of three servants who were entrusted by their master with his money while he was away. The first two servants pleased their master by multiplying or showing growth of what they had been given. The third servant disappoint- ed his master. He had hidden the money, keeping it safe but also keeping it from earning interest. In other words, he hoarded what his master had given him. Why did he hoard what he had been given? Scripture gives us the answer. The servant was afraid. He was so consumed by his fear that he did nothing. He was afraid of messing up. He was paralyzed by the thought of doing something wrong or reflecting poorly on his master. In fear, he hid the money and then gave it back. As I pondered the events of this story my mind drew a picture, a picture I did not like. In the picture I was bowing before my holy Lord, giving back exactly what He entrusted to me, nothing more. I questioned, Am I responding to my Master as this servant responded to his master? Have I fully used or am I fully using, even developing, the gifts and talents He has entrusted to me? Am I hiding what He gave me in fear of messing up? What about you? How would you answer these questions? It is easy to think we are not good enough or that we are undeserving of God's gifts. Our negative thoughts take us captive, leading us to believe we would reflect poorly upon our Lord if we dared to multiply and grow what He has given us. Today's devotion is our intervention. Now is the time to clear out what we've been hoarding or hiding. Praise God our intervention is not dramatized in front of millions of people. We stand before an audience of One - the only One who matters. Dear Lord, I apologize for hiding and hoarding anything tat You have given me. Help me be a good steward of everything You entrust to me. I want to be used to grow Your Kingdom. Supply the confidence I need to clean out my hiding places. While talking to a friend of mine one day, she kept telling me of her desire to be closer with the Lord. I sat quietly listening to every word. My heart sank and she repeated over and over again concerning the path (road) she had chosen in her life. She kept saying " I just want to get on the right road ", and as so many people do she felt as if she needed to totally dismiss the road she had traveled. She wanted to erase every memory up until that moment. We all do it. We want to dismiss the memories. I continued to listen and I know the very moment my heart opened and these inspired words hit me. I said to my friend: Everything we have been through , every road we have traveled has led us to this very second in time. “In Christ, there is no possible way for you to be on the wrong road home, you are just on “The Long Road Home.” The Lord turned my thoughts to Paul. Paul persecuted Christians. Paul was there when Steven was stoned. Paul had no compassion for the followers of Christ. However, one day on the road to Damascus the Lord not only touched Paul’s eyes to blind him, but The Lord touched his heart, and saved him. Then I heard this question? “Was Paul on the wrong road that day?” Clearly the answer was no. Paul was right where the Lord wanted him to be. I am not excusing sin by any means. I only pray that we will learn as we travel our roads. We need to look at the forks in our roads as journeys. Some will be short cuts; some will be more easily traveled and some will be difficult. Which road you choose is not the big question. Who you choose to travel with is. Choose wisely my friends, because choosing Christ will make your road well traveled. "The Long Road Home" I imagined I was walking on a road one day when up ahead of me was a fork in that road. It all looked very familiar to me and then I realized I had been on that very same road looking ahead at the very same fork many times during my life. I reminded myself as I stood there, how I had always been warned to choose which road I traveled carefully. One would be the right road, and one would be the wrong road. The choice of course would be mine and mine alone. No one would be able to choose for me. I was always left with the impression that one road would be smooth, while the other would be more difficult, full of potholes, and mountains to climb. As I stood there I reflected back to the roads I had traveled thus far, and the place to where it had led me. I have asked and it has been given to me, I have sought, And I have found. I have knocked and the door has been opened to me, Now I know where my roads lead. You notice it doesn’t say seek and then ask, Oh Father what should I do? I have realized the importance of walking by grace. When walking with Christ, both roads lead to the same place. as seen in Inspiration Plus -<>- To SUBSCRIBE: Send an e-mail with SUBSCRIBE CUP O'CHEER in the subject line to cheer316@sc.rr.com. ============================================================== >-->From Our Friend Sandi :) ..8888888.. ..8888888.. .8:::::::::::8. .8:::::::::::8. .8:::::::::::::::8:::::::::::::::8. .8:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::8. 8:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::8 8::::::::::/` \/ `\:::::::::::::::::8 8::::::::::\ /` \/ `\:::::::::::8 '8:::::::::::. .\ /::::::::::8' '8:::::::::::\/:::. .:::::::::::8' '8::::::::::::::::\/:::::::::::8' '8:::::::::::::::::::::::::8' '8:::::::::::::::::::::8' '8:::::::::::::::::8' two hearts '8:::::::::::8' beat as one... jgs '8:::::8' '8' >THE U IN JESUS Before U were thought of or time had begun, God stuck U in the name of His Son. Thoughts wander to the game you want to see or meal you want to eat, when suddenly a sound unlike any you've ever heard fills the air. The sound is high above you. A trumpet? A choir? A choir of trumpets? You don't know, but you want to know. So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up. As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one. The roadside has become a parking lot. Car doors are open and people are staring at the sky. Shoppers are racing out of the grocery store. The Little League baseball game across the street has come to a halt. Players and parents are searching the clouds. And what they see, and what you see, has never before been seen. As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the atmosphere part. A brilliant light spills onto the earth. There are no shadows. None. From every hue ever seen and a million more never seen. Riding on the flow is an endless fleet of angels. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time, until they occupy every square inch of the sky. North. South. East. West. Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison, and over the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and seraphim chanting, Holy, holy, holy. The final flank of angels is followed by twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls who join the angels in worship. Presently the movement stops and the trumpets are silent, leaving only the triumphant triplet: Holy, holy, holy. Between each word is a pause. With each word, a profound reverence. You hear your voice join in the chorus. You don't know why you say the words, but you know you must. Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn, you turn, the entire world turns and there He is. Jesus. Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of Christ the King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing cloud. He opens his mouth, and you are surrounded by his declaration: I am the Alpha and the Omega. The angels bow their heads. The elders remove their crowns. And before you is a Figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters. Forget stock markets and school reports. Sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy.. All that mattered, matters no more.... for Christ has come. This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, he saw me, and he asked: My child, what is your greatest wish for today? I responded: 'Lord please; take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much'. The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings but not its end. It wanted to help Him, so it flew down and took the longest, sharpest thorn in its tiny beak. The bird tugged and pulled until the thorn snapped from the branch Then a strange thing happened.
