Guilt weighed heavily on him because he couldn't seem to give it up. Now and again, he would quit for a couple of days but his will power gave out and it was back to the plug of tobacco. None of the other deacons at his church smoked or chewed, but some of them had in the past. They had quit. Why couldn't he? One night after a deacon's meeting at the church, he asked his fellow deacons to pray with him and ask the Lord to remove his desire for this accursed habit. They were only too happy to pray with Grandpa. He went home feeling good and did not chew that night. Morning came and lest he be tempted, Grandpa went to the porch and flung away his small tin box with the square of tobacco inside. He watched it go sailing into a grove of trees. With a great deal of satisfaction, he went in and had breakfast. Two days passed and Grandpa was craving his tobacco. After a hard day at his shoe repair shop, he came home to a cup of tea on the porch. Sitting there, his eyes were drawn to the grove of trees where he had flung his tobacco. Several minutes passed before Grandpa decided he should go and retrieve his little tin box. He would just toss the tobacco and keep the box. It was foolish to have thrown it away, being a perfect size for the pocket. He walked slowly, telling himself he would not take a chew of the tobacco. He repeated to himself that it was just the little box he wanted. However, the entire time he was walking, he knew in his heart he would take his pocket knife out and cut a sliver off the plug and taste the explosion of flavor as he chewed down on it. All the while, the craving was on his tongue and in his mind. He would be satisfied only temporarily. He promised himself that he would quit -- this would be his last chew or he would quit tomorrow when this plug of tobacco was gone. When he got to the trees, he fell to his knees and prayed for strength to help him throw the tobacco away. Convinced he could quit, he began to walk around and look for the box. Within a few minutes he spotted it. The color caught his eye, but the odor of the dead mouse laying beside it was the magnet that drew him to it. When the little box landed, the lid flew open and Mr. Mouse had apparently consumed a large portion of the tobacco which killed him. Grandpa had his sign as clearly as if it had been written. He felt that God had spoken to him. The tobacco killed the mouse. Give up the tobacco or it could kill him too. He left the mouse, tobacco and little box covered with dirt, among the trees. The experience was forever imprinted on his mind as a constant reminder. Grandpa never took another chew of tobacco. His bad habit was gone. -- Clara Wersterfer ___________________________________________ Clara resides in Texas. She is an animal lover with two dogs and several cats. I want to try to make you understand that I Love you so much. I just hope you know how much. I think as the years go by and we begin to get older, the love I feel for you just seems to grow more important every day. When we are youngsters we are filled with all kinds of thoughts about life and how it should be lived. We have families to raise and there is always something popping up that needs to be done. But, as we slowly grow older we find our family has grown up and left the old home place. We can finally slow down. Then, as we begin to look at the people around us the special ones in our lives suddenly seem to just step out of the background where they have been all of their lives. Somehow they are more important to us now as the days go swiftly by. One by one. Remembering back to our childhood days, you were always there. I didn't really realize back then what you would come to mean to me as the years went by. But through all those years, through thick or thin, we always loved each other. Oh, I might not have come out with words and told you I loved you but somehow, even back then, I think you knew it, even as I did. Although it has taken awhile, I have come to the realization that You are my sister and that is why there is that special bond of love between us, and it will be there, burning brightly, now and forever. I've always loved you. You're my sister. How could I help but love you? But, as time goes on and both of us find we have medical problems from time to time, I find myself getting more and more sentimental about so many things. Maybe it's because, all of a sudden, I find that I really don't know how many more tomorrows there will be for us. I have come to the conclusion that either one of us could pass on before that next sunset arrives. And, although the one who leaves this old earth first will be in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour, it would also mean that one of us would leave the other one behind. For a time, the one left behind, be it you or be it me, would be so sad and lonely. I can't even imagine life without you being here with me. Somewhere. I just had to include that thought because it's been with me a lot lately. It's just how I'm feeling today and I want you to know how much I do love you. There is no one I would rather have as my sister. Now or ever. If I had the chance to choose someone to take your place right now at this moment in time, I couldn't do it. Nobody else could ever take your place. It will always be YOU, Joyce. You are the sweetest, most loving lady I have ever known and I am proud that YOU are MY sister. I know I don't often say things like this but somehow today seems like the perfect day to tell you how I feel about you. How very much you mean to me today and every day of my life and always will no matter what happens in the future. There are tears running down my face as I write this. Down deep inside, I feel all these things so strongly even though I never have said them to you before. So, today is the day and I want you to KNOW that you are loved by me so much. Much more than you probably realize. You are a very special and loved sister and to me, there is no one that will EVER take your place. Hold tight to Jesus. It won't be much longer and we will be eternally Home. No more heartaches. No more aches and pains. The woes of this old earth will be forever gone. Praise God! :) One day, in the not too distant future, You and I will be together forever. No more hurting and no more death. No more parting to leave those we love in tears and heartbreak. We will see Mom again. Can you even imagine the joy we will feel as we hold her close once again? Our Grandmother's are there too. I can just see the smile on their face as they welcome us HOME. Yes, That will be the great homecoming day for us. To tell you the truth, I can't hardly wait! Hold on tight to your faith and don't ever let go. No matter what comes our way while we are still on this old earth, we will soon be going HOME! Can you imagine that wonderful day??? Going HOME to see our loved ones. And best of all, going home to see our Jesus! Just take a moment and imagine the joy as we walk into His Holy Presence. I get overwhelmed at just thinking of that day. It will be more than worth all that we have had to put up with here on earth. Just hold on. It's not going to be much longer. It's going to be more than worth the wait. We are going HOME one day soon. AMEN! I LOVE YOU JOYCE!!!! Phyllis Smith (Bunni) Copyright 8/11/2010 All Rights Reserved --- ...Sweet! Scott Duvall and J. Daniel Hays) I had a conversation once with a former navy diver about diving deep, really deep. He told me that he had been in situations so deep and dark that it was almost impossible to keep from becoming disoriented and confused. What a terrifying feeling -- being under water, unable to see your hands in front of your face, not knowing which way is up, panic engulfing you. I immediately interrupted my friend, "So what did you do?" . . . "Feel the bubbles," he said... When it's pitch black and you have no idea which way to go, you reach up with your hand and feel the bubbles. The bubbles always drift to the surface. When you can't trust your feelings or judgment, you can always trust the bubbles to get you back to the top." Apart from the experience of scuba diving, we need a way to determine what is real and true. Sometimes in life we get disoriented and desperate. At other times, we find ourselves drifting aimlessly. God knew that we would need advice and instructions about how to live. In the sixty-six books of the Bible we have a reality library -- stories, letters, guidelines, and examples from God that tell us what is true and real. In a world that is changing faster than we can imagine, we have something stable, true, and real. -<>- "I am the way and the truth and the life. Good deeds mean nothing to God unless they are the outgrowth of a relationship with Him. Only those who have received Jesus Christ as their Savior will enter heaven, no matter how many acts of kindness or charity they have performed. The definition of the word "believe" is what often confuses church members who lack genuine faith. They believe in God, Jesus, and heaven. But there's a difference between giving intellectual assent to an idea and spiritually acknowledging Christ as God's Son and one's own personal Savior. In the Bible, every time someone truly believes in Jesus, he or she changes. It is impossible to remain the same after realizing one's desperate need for Him. An earnest desire for salvation begins with the recognition that we have sinned against God. We must also be aware that there is no hope of salvation apart from the Lord. Having understood these two facts, we need to trust in His sacrifice for the payment of our sin-debt. Some people use the terminology "ask Jesus to forgive your sin" or "ask Jesus into your heart." It doesn't matter how we describe the experience - if we repent of sin and make a decision to receive Christ, we are saved. God promises to respond to a humble acknowledgement of His Son's sacrifice. If you desire to be in heaven with Him for eternity, ask yourself this question: Have I been saved? If not, now is the time. [14] But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. [15] Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. There is not a lot of thinking or doing required to be saved. It is so simple a child can do it... Roman.10: [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. You simply have to say out loud 'Jesus is my Lord' and at the same time believe in your heart (without a shadow of a doubt) that God raised Jesus Christ from the grave and you are saved - you receive the anointing of or holy spirit. ================================================================== >-->From Our Friend Tony In Australia :) , , /////| ///// | ///// | |~~~| | | |===| |/| | B |/| | | I | | | | B | | | | L | / | E | / |===|/ jgs '---' >THE ANOINTING [edited] Now first I will give you some food for thought. The anointing is a spiritual "force". It is NOT The Holy Spirit (God)! When we talk about the "anointing", we talk about "it". "IT" makes us feel brand new. "IT" cleanses our soul etc. But when we talk about The Holy Spirit, we say "HE". The Holy Spirit (God) is never referred to as "IT". The anointing is that which the Holy Spirit brings to us. The Holy Spirit IS God. the anointing is merely a 'spiritual' oil. "It" enables us to do things that as ordinary people, we would not normally be able to do if we simply relied on our own 'worldly' capabilities. The reason I am trying my utmost to emphasize that the Holy Spirit is God, is so that we can(if we haven't already) start to have a personal and close relationship with him.... and so that we can recognize for ourselves, that the Power! and the presence and the "anointing" can be found..... 1 John 2:27 tells us... "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." Ok, so what I am saying to you dear Brothers and Sisters, is that EVERY believer! Has received the annointing! it says, That which you ‘HAVE’ received! Amen?? SO!! if you are quiet about The Holy Spirit, if you are placid about The Holy Spirit, then perhaps we need to arouse the holy spirit inside us! You see, as much as we all at times, think we would love to be Christian counselors, as much as we love our brothers and sisters in Christ, the best Christian Counsel, is that which "abides" in us. So, even if there are problems we feel we cant discuss with others, even if we feel we are on our own or in some situation that we feel we don’t have the answer to or its just simply beyond our own understanding, then the anointing of holy spirit is there to teach you, to Comfort you in all you need to know. I want to tell you this, if you allow the Holy Spirit to teach you, whatever that 'teaching' may be.....it will cause you to remain in Jesus Christ! Purely and simply, because the 'anointing" of the Holy Spirit...keeps you in Jesus Christ! This means, as a Christian, you will discover new ways of enjoying that which Jesus brings to you! Halleluyah! You will find you enjoy EVERYTHING He sends your way, and there will be bucketsful!( as my grandkids say when they tell me home much they love me!)...... We spend a lot of our 'pleasure ' time listening to music of a secular nature, (its all around us) We read books that although they are entertaining..... lack edification, we tolerate circumstances in our lives that are basically not beneficial to ANYONE...and of course there is an abundance of "knowledge" to be discovered on the internet....but....BUT! The Holy Spirit anointing, gives us access to an informational SUPER highway!......and....this knowledge if we pray for it,and if we listen for it, and if we acknowledge it when it comes to us, will come WILL COME! as we need it....! So the point I am trying so hard to make, is that the anointing we receive, when we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit is an anointing where we enter into a realm beyond OUR own humanistic knowledge...OUR understanding, experience, and ability.... As a sign of the faithfulness of members over the years, the stone had a pronounced dip in the middle, well-worn by parishioners entering and leaving the chapel. Unfortunately, there were hardly any funds available for the replacement. Then someone came up with the bright idea that the replacement could be postponed for many years by simply turning the block of stone over. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked... "No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?" The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?" "See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile." "Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything." "This is a good deal for you, Jack," the officer answered. "Don't blow it.." Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived. The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this. Is this man in trouble?" "This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered. "Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is bad for business." Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place." The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled. "Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?" "Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms." "And do you make a goodly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?" "What business is that of yours?" I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company." "Oh." The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference.." She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?" "No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty." "Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?" "Yes, ma'am That would be very nice." The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you right away, officer." The officer watched him walk away.. "You certainly put him in his place," he said. "That was not my intent Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this." She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest She stared at him intently. "Jack, do you remember me?" Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes "I think so -- I mean you do look familiar." "I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry. "Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry. "I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat." Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy." "I know", the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble. Then, when I looked over, I saw you put the price of my food in the cash register I knew then that everything would be all right." "So you started your own business?" Old Jack said. "I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business, that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and pulled out a business card. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons. He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet. If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you." There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he said. "Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus... He led me to you." Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways. "Thank you for all your help, officer," she said. "On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And...And thank you for the coffee." If you have missed knowing me, you have missed nothing. If you have missed some of my emails, you might have missed a laugh. But, if you have missed knowing my LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, you have missed everything in the world. Have a Wonderful Day. May God Bless You Always. And don't forget that when you "cast your bread upon the waters," you never know how it will be returned to you. (Hope this is repeated many times today!) God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love and so small He can curl up into your heart. -<>- ____ '-..-' .-. ___||___ .-/ /-. /_______/| / / / / | || / / / / | o |/ / / / / '---`(--' Pru />>=<A LIFE THAT MATTERS They said he died. One morning in 1888, Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite, the man who had spent his life amassing a fortune from the manufacture and sale of weapons of destruction, awoke to read his own obituary. Of course, it was a mistake. Alfred's brother had died, and the reporter inadvertently wrote Alfred's obituary. For the first time, Alfred Nobel saw himself as the world saw him – "the dynamite king," the great industrialist who had made an immense fortune from explosives. This, as far as the general public was concerned, was the entire purpose of his life. None of his true intentions surfaced. Nothing was said about his work to break down the barriers that separated persons and ideas. He was, quite simply, a merchant of death, and for that alone would he be remembered. Alfred read the obituary with horror. He felt that the world must know the true meaning and purpose of his life. He resolved to do this through his last will and testament. The final disposition of his fortune would show the world his life's ideals. And at that time came into being yearly prizes for chemistry, physics, medicine, literature – and the famous Nobel Peace Prize. If you were to read your own obituary today, what would it say? Do others know what you stand for, what you believe in and what truly matters to you? Dr. Philip Humbert asks, "What remarkable, extraordinary and amazing things will you do with this wild and wonderful miracle, your one and only life?" I believe that the question should also be asked this way: "What will you do with this wild and wonderful miracle, your one and only DAY?" For it's increasingly clear to me that the decisions I make every day, even little decisions, will decide how my life will eventually turn out. Hopefully, I won't wake up to read my own obituary. But I have already begun to write it – day by day, moment by moment. And if I live a life that matters today, then my obituary will already be written in the hearts of those who know me. -- Steve Goodier http://stevegoodier .blogspot. com/ -<>- , |\ __ | | |--| __ |/ | | |~' /|_ () () | //| \ |\ () | \|_ | | \ jgs \_|_/ () | | | @' () >THE MOST DIFFICULT INSTRUMENT TO PLAY Do you know what is the hardest instrument in the orchestra to play? The hardest instrument to play is second fiddle. While all the rest of the instruments have their own sections, the violins are divided into two parts - "first" and "second" violins. First violins are often the stars of the show. They get the melody lines. They get to show off. They sit next to the audience. Back behind, where they are hard to see, are the second violins. They play a supporting role. They play harmony to the first violins. Theirs is a service role. Their job is to round out the sound of the other instruments. They serve the orchestra. They do what is not glamorous so that the whole will be beautiful. Without the second violins, the orchestra would sound incomplete. You know what the hardest role to play in life is? Second fiddle. To play second fiddle is to play a supporting role for someone else. And it is sometimes a service role; doing what is not glamorous, usually behind the scenes, so that the whole can be more beautiful. The late Leo Buscaglia, that effervescent educator, speaker, author, and lover of life, used to tell his university students that there is a world out there dying to be loved! He challenged his students to love and often told them that serving others is the way they can find such things as happiness and joy. He sometimes told about Joel. Leo got Joel hooked on serving. He took him to a nursing home and said, "You see that woman sitting over there? I want you to go and introduce yourself to her." Joel was not looking forward to his nursing home visit. But he nevertheless went to the stranger and introduced himself. She looked at him skeptically and asked, "Are you one of my relatives?" Joel answered, "No, I'm not." And she said, "Good. I hate my relatives. Sit down, son, and talk to me." He did and they talked. He went back the next week. And the next. They developed a close friendship and Joel soon looked forward to his visits. He learned something about the joy of serving. About working behind the scenes. About playing second fiddle. And he made one woman's world a little more beautiful.
