Each one that deploys leaves behind parents, sisters and brothers, spouses and children, as well as myriad of friends. They are not numbers -- they are people. They laugh, they cry, they love, they endure hardships, they work hard. They are human beings with all the emotions you and I experience. They sweat, they like to eat three times a day or more, they enjoy fellowship with others, they pray, they shake with fear more often than we'll ever know. They are warm, living beings. How often do we read that another brigade has deployed? Numbers? No, not numbers, that brigade is made up of people who smile, cry, tell jokes, treasure the photos they carry of loved ones. They have headaches and stomachaches like you and me. They get slivers in their fingers and bruises on arms and legs. They're no less vulnerable to physical ailments than we are, but they face dangers we have never dreamed of. I live near an army post, so I see uniformed soldiers everywhere I go. They stop at the grocery store on their way home from work just like teachers and attorneys and librarians do. They pick up their children at soccer fields as a civilian mom or dad does. We are all very much alike, except for one thing. These soldiers, male and female, have volunteered to serve, to protect our country at home and in foreign lands, to perhaps put their life in danger while doing so. Have you ever thanked a soldier or marine or sailor? Maybe you'd feel uncomfortable walking up to a total stranger and saying, "Thanks for all you do for me and the rest of America every day." What a great gift it would be if you could say that to a member of the armed forces. Think about it the next time you see an American in uniform. A couple years ago, my husband and I were returning from a European trip. We were tired and anxious to get through customs when we landed back in America. As we approached the passport checkpoint, a door opened and an entire unit of uniformed soldiers filed through. They were returning from Iraq, an even longer flight than we'd had. We stopped and watched these fatigued young men and women as they walked by us. Some nodded and smiled, others stared straight ahead. Some I could barely see for the tears that had filled my eyes. I wanted so badly to say Welcome Home to them, but the lump in my throat didn't allow it. The pride that overcame me at that moment cannot be described. I was every soldier's mother for just an instant. And what about the ones who didn't return? The ones who came home in a body bag or a wooden coffin. My pride in them is every bit as strong along with a deep and abiding gratitude in what they gave for the rest of us. They sacrificed so that we can keep living in a free country. Yes, we Americans have many disagreements, but, even so, we are blessed in numerous ways. Don't wait for Veterans Day or Memorial Day, take time to say thank you to a military person. Say it in person or say it in your heart, but please say it. -- Nancy Julien Kopp __________________________________________________ Nancy draws from her Chicago growing-up years and many more in the Flint Hills of Kansas for essays, stories, poems, and articles. My younger brother and I were in our teens and although we knew Grandpa was in his eighties and had been under a doctor's care, we are never really prepared for the things in life that God controls. So, with only exciting thoughts for the holiday ahead, we started out in Dad's old Studebaker for the house where they lived. The trip was a good three hours drive from the city, and it was the house Dad had grown up in. My grandfather had been the editor of the town newspaper as well as a school teacher. Grandma had been busy raising a large family, and although most of her family were now scattered in various directions across the states, on this special Thanksgiving everyone was together. With large bedrooms upstairs and family members who lived in town, there was ample room for sleeping. The day before Thanksgiving always demanded a lot of time and energy, as the preparations for a large group and meal was always made into a fun and loving time. How I enjoyed learning to fix fresh pie pumpkins, cooking them until tender, and mixing the pumpkin with eggs, sweet milk and spices, while someone else made the crusts. We could bake three pies at one time in the old oven, and to this day, I cannot eat a store bought pumpkin pie! There was ongoing activity in that large kitchen, and an old table on a screened porch outside to place items that couldn't be refrigerated, due to space. Many times we would go ice skating or just walk in the snow. We always found fun things to do. Grandma usually had a wonderful hot kettle of soup simmering, with the smell of homemade breads, fresh from the oven. The night before Thanksgiving was more casual and after eating we often played board games or sang songs around the piano. The smell of good things cooking would awaken us on Thanksgiving morning and we'd make our own breakfast taking turns helping out when needed in the kitchen. As I think back, I don't ever remember it being a chore, rather a fun time with laughter and talking with my cousins, aunts and grandmother. On Thanksgiving morning, a few of the guys would join Grandpa down in the old cellar and shovel coal into the furnace. The women would help Grandma set the table and assist with the large hearty breakfast menu. My Grandfather had been in good spirits and happy to have his family around. It was fun to talk with him, because he had so much history to share about "the olden days." But after the food had been prepared, and the turkey was roasting in the oven, Grandpa said he had a surprise. And soon we heard it -- the sound of bells. Grandpa told us to get our warm coats, hats and mittens on and everyone was to gather on the front porch. With the new snow that had fallen during the night the sight in front of me that afternoon was breathtaking. It wasn't like anything I'd seen in the city. In front of the driveway, was a team of horses pulling a sleigh. Grandpa told us to all pile into the sleigh, and sit close to one another to stay warm. There were two long benches that faced one another, with seating in the middle, and blankets that Grandma brought out to help keep us warm. Some friends who had a farm nearby were seated up front to take charge of the horses. Everyone, young and old, got into the sleigh on that Thanksgiving Day. I remember the country roads and the beautiful white snow that blew like a soft feather into my face, and made such a picturesque landscape where we rode. It was bumpy in spots, and over the fields the sleigh runners threw off snow as we sped along. Songs that the older crowd knew were sung and we joined in, while the sleigh bells made music as two farm horses led the way. It was like magic to me. And I only wish it could have happened again. I don't remember the details of the big meal that year, only that it was a wonderful Thanksgiving because of the memory that Grandpa helped to make. When we trust God and know He holds the future, we can be assured that He has some special plans. I think Grandpa knew that this may have been his last Thanksgiving, and wanted to make sure that year was special. A number of Thanksgiving years run through my mind as I recall my youth, yet whenever I see a Christmas card with a sleigh on the cover, it brings back a vivid picture of that day with my loved ones. I'll always be grateful that God allowed Grandpa to share that last Thanksgiving with us and for the memory of the family sleigh ride -- with the bells ringing and the horses that took us through a glistening white blanket of snow. -- Diane Dean White ___________________________________________ Diane is a freelance writer and author. They saw a house with a gold star hanging in the window. 'What does that mean?' asked the boy. His parents told him that it meant that that family had lost a son in the war, and that star symbolized their loss. Later on that evening, as the boy saw the first star come out in the summer sky, the boy excitedly exclaimed, 'Look! God lost a son, too!'"2 Regardless of the time of year may we ever be mindful of the "so great a salvation" God provided for us through the giving of His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for all our sins and, through His resurrection, to give us the guarantee that we, too, will arise and be given the gift of eternal life--that is, life after this life--through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is God’s promise to all who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and therein have received God’s forgiveness for all their sins* Suggested prayer: "Dear God, thank You that You not only gave Your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross in my place to pay the just penalty for all my sins, but also that Jesus rose again giving me the hope and guarantee of the resurrection for eternal life to live in Heaven with You forever when Jesus returns for all who believe in You and have accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. They quote things about this prediction and that prediction and how it all fits with the book of Revelations. I think this year has been a warning from God to all of us around the world living with freedom in a capitalist country about the evils of socialism and what we can expect if we continue down the road we've been headed on. We all saw what it has done to places like Cuba and Venezuela and other countries more extreme like China. Yet many of us were still being deceived into thinking that getting free stuff from the government and not working was the way to go. God, however, tells us in His Word what is the best way to go. God warns us plainly what will happen if we forsake His will... 2 Thes.3: [10] For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. Venezuela's people are sifting through garbage bins and having to eat their pets to stay alive! They used to be a very wealthy country until they mostly chose not to work... Check out their current standing along with their background Here: https://www.heritage.org/index/country/venezuela Eph.4 [28] Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Since we didn't get it, God allowed the devil to show us more of the evils of socialism and what effect it would have on our lives. That is what 2020 has all been about - showing us the consequences of wrong and ungodly believing and actions. I am one who believes that we as Christians are not going to be subject to the horrible events of the Tribulations described in the book of Revelations. I think our Father will have Christ whisk us away before then. My main reason for believing this is because we as Christians are each like Christ was on earth. Each one of us living Christians acts as a restraint upon the devil who is the god of this world. Gen.3: [14] And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. After mankind's Fall, God was foretelling of the birth of Jesus Christ - the enmity between the serpent (the devil) and his seed and her seed (Christians to follow after Jesus). Notice God says - it (the seed - that's us Christians) shall bruise thy head - (hold the devil down while the devil) shalt bruise his heal - (making our Christian walk a bit painful and a little hard at times). Once we have the Return Of The Lord and Christ takes us home, there will be no one to hold the devil down. No Christ on earth. No believers to bruise his head. He will be free to reign his full evil upon all those who refused to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. There will literally be Hell On Earth. Rev.1: [5] And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, [6] And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. [7] Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. He called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, But I've got a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring with me." "Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him." "There's something you should know," The son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, And I want him to come live with us." "I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live." "No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us." Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, And we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. He'll find a way to live on his own." At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, They received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, They were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco And were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, But to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know. Their son had only one arm and one leg. The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, But we don't like people who inconvenience us Or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who aren't as Healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are. Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love That welcomes us into the forever family, Regardless of how messed up we are. Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, Say a little prayer that God will give you the strength You need to accept people as they are, And to help us all be more understanding Of those who are different from us!!! He drew back a cloth fold to show me the tiny, lifeless body hidden inside. "I got here as quickly as I could," he said sadly. "I found it in the ditch in front of my apartment building. It was still breathing when I picked it up, but I don't know now...I think it died on the car ride over here." The man's chin trembled as he studied the kitten. "You know, I always liked cats. Can't have one where I live now. I just couldn't leave it there to die alone. I really don't know what I was thinking when I picked it up, I just felt sorry for it. I can't afford to take care of it, and my landlord has a no pets policy." I know the feeling all too well. Sometimes being a Good Samaritan to our animal friends can be a costly and disheartening experience despite our best intentions. If the kitten had lived, it would not have had a home after its recovery. The best I could do for the old man was to assure him that he had done his best. It was a small comfort to offer. I said that I would take care of burying the little patient for him, and he seemed relieved. When he asked how much he owed, I waved a hand and told him, "Not a thing. We're just sorry we couldn't do something for it." Normally there is a burial fee, but I felt that we could ignore it this time. This gentleman didn't seem to have funds to spare, and it was such a tiny little thing to bury, anyway. He shook my hand and turned away sadly. After he left, I realized he hadn't even told me his name. I turned back to the kitten lying on the table and felt a regret that its young life had been cut short. It was a black and white kitten, not even old enough to be weaned. Its frail body was very thin. As I touched it, I could feel the delicate skeletal structure. Its eyes and nose were matted. It probably had a respiratory infection that it couldn't overcome. Then it gasped. I stared in surprise for a moment, then hurried to alert the veterinarian. He laid his stethoscope across the rib cage and listened, then murmured, "This kitten's not dead yet. We still have a chance." The room was suddenly alive with a flurry of movement. Everyone was busy at once, setting up a recovery room and working on the limp patient. It was wrapped in warm towels from the dryer. Injections were given and fluids started. Several times that day I went back to the intensive care cage and checked on the tiny patient. It seemed to be at death's door. The breathing was rough and ragged, and it lay on its side without movement. But leaning over it, I could hear a faint purr as I stroked its head. Unable to sleep that night, I thought about the tiny kitten. Would it survive? What would become of it? Who would pay the mounting veterinary bill in the end? One thing I knew for sure -- trying to save it was the right thing to do. Anxious to know the kitten's fate, I hurried to work the next morning. I peered into the recovery cage to see two small eyes staring back at me. The kitten stood up took a few baby steps towards me. "Hey there, sweetie! You're looking much brighter today!" My heart swelled with relief and happiness. My little friend just might make it, after all. I rushed to open a can of the special diet we keep for invalid animals and waved a spoonful under its nose. The kitten attacked the food with gusto. Finally, with its rounded tummy full, it curled up for a nap. The veterinarian checked the patient during his rounds, and pronounced it much improved over the day before. He also told me that my new cat was a little female. "Oh, no, I can't keep her," I said sadly. "I already have four cats and that's really too many for me. But I think I can find her a good home." But can I really, I wondered? Not just any home would do. Over the next few days the kitten continued to improve. Her matted eyes turned a clear green color. A flea bath made her hair coat shiny and soft. The special diet was changed to kitten food and she began to put on weight. It wasn't long before her recovery cage was full of catnip toys and a stuffed puppy, all courtesy of my checkbook. I began to think of names, and finally decided on Paige. A small voice in my head whispered, "You know what they say? If you name them, they're yours. And you know you want her." I tried not to listen. Often during the day, I would stop by for a snuggle. Paige would work her way up under my chin and purr, happy and content to be held and loved. That insistent little voice said, "Four cats aren't too many. And besides, this is such a tiny one. How much trouble could one more little cat be? You know you can make it work." One day I opened her door, and Paige sprang through the air and landed in my arms. The purring was loud as she snuggled close. The vet tech said with a smile, "You know, I think she's chosen you. You just got yourself a new cat." I turned around to protest, then stopped. I had to be honest. I very much wanted this precious kitten. And obviously, she wanted me, too. With a sense of relief, I admitted that Paige now had a home. And that stubborn small voice whispered, "Told you so!" by Pamela Jenkins bunnies-n-birds@juno.com _________________________ Pamela Jenkins lives in Oklahoma with her husband of twenty-three years and their four children. This vampy look can be as subtle or dramatic as you wish. The tips below will create a more powerful look in black, but to achieve a more understated look simply select light grey, burgundy or dark khakis instead. Remember, a lot depends on your skin tone and hair color - see blonde to brunette, so why not try a few different tones to see which suits you best? Ingredients for powerfully cat eye makeup: * Black eyeliner - pencil. Ensure that it is sharp. * Black eyeliner - brush. The thinner the liquid eyeliner is the better. * Eye shadow brush. Thin stumpy bristles are best to maintain control. * Dark eye shadow. Irridescent rather than flat matt (too hard), or shiny (too messy). * Highlight shimmer for under the eyebrow. Avoid garish looking "high glitter". * A good eyebrow pencil. Try to select the most natural shade for you as possible. * Eyelash curlers - see Jessica Alba. * Black mascara. Obviously choose a quality brand to avoid clumping and "spider eyes". * Step-by-step Instructions For Smoky Cat Eyes: Apply your foundation, under eye concealer and powder. Using your black eyeliner pencil, start from the front corner of your eyelid. Draw a soft smudge line to the end of your lash line. Use your eyeshadow brush to apply the dark eye shadow over the top of the smudged line for a soft smoky look. Ensure that the edges are neatly blended. Then take the brush eyeliner and apply as close to your lashes as you can on the top lid only. Make the line as thick and pronounced as you wish, but make sure that the line is thickest at the outer corner, and thinner as you go inward. Apply another smoky coat of eye shadow with the brush to blend the harsh edges. Subtly blend your darker eye shadow up from your lashes to your eye crease. Then apply a shimmery highlight in white or cream under the outside corner of your eyebrow. Use your eyebrow pencil to make your eyebrow curve more pronounced. Curl your eyelashes, then apply thin coats of mascara, building the layers up gradually to avoid clumping. Congratualations! You have achieved guaranteed show stopping impact! However, one day when the President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, "Old Rough and Ready," came to Cartwright's church, the elders warned the Pastor not to offend the President. In those days, the President had great power to influence a denomination for good or bad. Content, that their Pastor would not say anything to discredit their church, the elders retired to the back of the sanctuary. When Cartwright got up to speak, the first words out of his mouth were, "I understand that President Andrew Jackson is here this morning. I have been requested to be very guarded in my remarks. Let me say this: Andrew Jackson will go to hell if doesn't repent of his sin!" The entire congregation gasped with shock at Cartwright's boldness. How could this young preacher dare to offend the tough old general in public? they wondered. After the service, everyone wondered how the President would respond to Cartwright. When Andrew Jackson met the preacher at the door he looked at him in the eye and said, "Sir, If I had a regiment of men like you, I could conquer the world!" When we appreciate the power of the word of God and the holy spirit speaking from the lips of people with conviction we will make eternal differences. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment :) Straying From The Lord http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/straying.html God's Little Love Notes http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/notes.html Thanksgiving Story http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/alices.html Thanksgiving Through The Years http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thanksgiving.html Proud Of Our Troops 5 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/troops5.html Who Is This Jesus? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/jesus.html Pencil VS Camera http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/pencamera.html Amazing Gibraltar Airport http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/airroad.html Beautiful Flowers http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bflowers.html Extraordinary Photos http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/extraordinary.html Microscopic Winners http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/micro2.html When Sandman Attacks http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/sandman.html Newborn Moose http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/moose.html Fall And Thanksgiving Index http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thanksgivingindex.html -<>- Josh Groban - You Raise Me Up (Proms in Hyde Park 2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB7JsbxCCDU Casting Crowns - Praise You In This Storm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YUGwUgBvTU MercyMe - Almost Home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lKdHXfpsFQ Matthew West - The God Who Stays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPwd_TQpsHY Zach Williams, Dolly Parton - There Was Jesus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37wV6D49iEY Jeremy Camp - I Still Believe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZPMZV9MVVY Socialism Explained - Abbott & Costello Explain The Stimulus Plan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ib9N7L9y08&feature=related -<>- >In The News: Hannity 11/11/20 https://www.bitchute.com/video/CYzEaP1E2xdQ/ Laura Ingraham shreds Biden over ‘America last’ agenda, accuses him of ‘selling out American workers’ https://tinyurl.com/yyktyoa3 The counting continues as more fraud is exposed https://reliablenewsnow.com/ Pelosi Caught Once Again Refusing To Denounce Socialism https://tinyurl.com/yy8ldtnp 2020 Conservative Latest https://tinyurl.com/y2yfb2af Westwing News: https://www.whitehouse.gov/westwingreads/ WhiteHouseNews: https://www.whitehouse.gov/1600daily/ Latest From AFA: http://tinyurl.com/j7lakqw Students For Life https://tinyurl.com/yd5nxmu6 Latest From OperationRescue: http://www.operationrescue.org/ Latest Product Alert: http://www.emergencyemail.org/products/?fmt=text Latest Health Alert: http://www.emergencyemail.org/health/?fmt=text Click to Give Free https://tinyurl.com/y2abb8d2 -<>- >From Our Friend LouiseAu :) Take a short break from your day to see some cool and interesting video clips as you get your Daily Dose Of Internet. This Veterans Day, I hope you all took a moment to consider the brave men and women of our armed forces who heard the call to serve and answered it with courage, grit, and selfless sacrifice. Our veterans took an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution. In fulfilling their oath, even in the seemingly mundane tasks, our service members ensure the continuation of this great American experiment in self-government. Every act of service, from those who serve stateside in peace, to those who have perished abroad in war, contributes to the freedoms we so often take for granted. The dedication and faithfulness that our servicemen and women give to their tasks inspires us. We invite you to reflect upon our veterans’ service as you watch this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itmFLz7CjJ4 May we all strive to be faithful in our everyday responsibilities as our veterans have been in theirs. They are the fruit of faith and, whenever paraded, become parodies of themselves and the worst kind of vanity imaginable. When they are not the fruit of faith they become its greatest obstacle. Virtues are most vital when invisible and most sharply imaged when they are not the focus of our attentions. They are evidence of their Source (and ours) and not the generators of it (or us). Take, for example, wisdom. Wisdom has at its source the "fear of the Lord" - the highest regard and reverence for Him. The tendency among many of us, though, is to confuse wisdom with omniscience and to think ourselves wise in proportion to how much stuff we know. God calls us to be wise and provides us with Christ. We pressure ourselves to be all-knowing and fret over where Cain got his wife and how the earth can be as young as the scriptures claim when geologists say that it takes millions of years more than that to produce a barrel of oil. We tend to suspect that wisdom lies in the ability to answer imponderables rather than in Christ. And we sometimes end in self-contempt and even abandonment of our faith, not because our faith is false, but because we focused on a wisdom that is not a virtue but a vanity. It is the same way with strength. God calls us to "be strong" and we mistake that for a call to omnipotence. We confuse strength to endure trials with an ability to walk unfrustrated through life. We convince ourselves that if we were strong we would never fail, never tire, never hurt, never need. We begin to measure strength in terms of ease of progress, equate power with success, ensurability with invincibility and inevitably, when our illusions of omnipotence is shattered, we condemn ourselves for being weak. God has called us to be lovers and we frequently think that He meant us to be saviors. So we "love" as long as we see "results." We give of ourselves as long as our investments pay off, but if the ones we love do not respond, we tend to despair and blame ourselves and even resent those we pretend to love. Because we love someone, we want them to be free of addictions, of sin, of self - and that is as it should be. But it might be that our love for them and our desire for their well-being will not make them well. And, if that is the case, their lack of response no more negates the reality of love than their quickness to respond would confirm it. Love is a virtue and not a feeling. It is fed and fired by God - not by the favorable response of the beloved. Even when it doesn't seem to make a dime's worth of difference to the ones on whom it lavished, it is still the most prized of all virtues because it is at the heart of the very character of God. By loving we participate in His Life and Essence. When we stoop to bait and buy good behavior we are no longer loving as God loves. We are manipulating and cheapening the dignity of the person whom we are called - not to save, not even to change - but to love. If real salvation is possible (and we know it is) it is because real love is there. And love is real, love that is truly a virtue and not just an act - agape love - gushes from God through those who know Him. It is not strung along by those who don't. In a world where quantitative values have obscured the reality of qualitative values - where we long to measure progress and chart growth, it is easy to give in to the temptation to judge ourselves and to try to walk by sight. But into that confused and meaningless effort God speaks with His great, still and small voice, with his Christ. He speaks through these invisible virtues with which His people shine and in the light of their lives this desperate, smug world sees not strength, wisdom, or even love, but Him who is the source of these things and the savior of humankind. Let us in whom He dwells look also to Him so we can shine more brightly. -<>- "God knows that some lessons can only be learned over time. There are some things we cannot understand. Some things must be concealed. Sometimes it is necessary that we spend time doing nothing but waiting for God to show Himself or speak to us. God knows that it is in these times, when we have the least amount of control, that we can exercise the greatest amount of faith. In these times we are left to choose between trusting God, or wallowing in despair and self-pity. We can worry or we can trust. We can keep going or we can give up. There are some things we just can't control. And in those times we learn to trust." - Rocky Henriques . | . \ | / `. \ ' / .' `. .-*""*-. .' I have a God who's mighty, Who's sovereign and supreme; I have a God who loves me, and I am on His team. He is all wise and powerful, Jesus is His name; Though everything is changeable, My God remains the same. My God knows all that's happening; Beginning to the end, His presence is my comfort, He is my dearest friend. When sickness comes to weaken me, To bring my head down low, I call upon my mighty God; Into His arms I go. When circumstances threaten to rob me from my peace; He draws me close unto His breast, Where all my strivings cease. And when my heart melts within me, and weakness takes control; He gathers me into His arms, He soothes my heart and soul. The great "I AM" is with me, My life is in His hand, The "Son of God" is my hope, It's in His strength I stand. I refuse to be defeated, My eyes are on my God; He has promised to be with me, as through this life I trod. I'm looking past all my circumstances, To Heaven's throne above; My prayers have reached the heart of God, I'm resting in His love. I give God thanks in everything, My eyes are on His face; The battle's His, the victory is mine; He'll help me win the race. -<>- "I had a very good music teacher, Mary Kellner, who not only introduced me to some of the great composers, but she was able to capture my imagination and make me excited about what I was supposed to be learning. When I was in fourth grade, I got asked to play the communion meditation at church. I practiced and she worked with me, which was cool because she was a Quaker, and they don't even have communion. Anyway, I went back Tuesday to my lesson after I had played Sunday, and she said 'How did you do?' and I told her, 'Everybody said they loved it, everyone said I did great.' And she said, 'Well, then you failed.' I was crushed, but she put her hand on my shoulder and said, 'Richard, when you play in church, you are to direct people's attention to God, not to your playing.'" - Rich Mullins, the "Awesome God" guy c )____ ejm 97 /_=-/_____| ( /\.| | >The Words We Use (Author Unknown) The following notice was sent home with some high school students: "Our school's cross-graded, multi-ethnic, individualized learning program is designed to enhance the concept of an open-ended learning program on the continuum of multi-ethnic, academically enriched learning, using the identified intellectually-gifted child as the agent of his own learning." One parent sent back a note which read, "I have a college degree, speak two foreign languages and four Indian dialects--but I haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about." Unlike this notice, the Gospel of which we are called to preach is clear and simple. Yet, sometimes in the Christian world we attach all sorts of words and ideas that sometimes just baffle and confuse an unbelieving world. How about your communication of the Gospel? Is it so loaded with babblespeak that no one understands what you are saying? Or is it clearly articulated in love so that the youngest to the oldest can understand?
