It's good for the soul, it's good therapy, and it's a good way to grow. Just today I've received a new one -- a hard cover that's stripped like garden onions, with a silky marigold-colored ribbon to mark the progression of my journaling. The journal is pristine, clean and fresh, much like my cutting garden was less than a year ago. Soon, the journal will be spilling over with words like my new garden. Gardens and journals are much the same -- they start with dreams. The one in my front yard was a birthday present from my husband. He hauled bricks, sweated over cement, wheeled in topsoil, all in the name of love. I choose the flowers. I dug in the dirt to create a bit of paradise joining with nature. I planted sweet peas for fragrance, and since their season is short, they tell me to cherish life, reminding me that we do not know the number of our days. I planted bulbs by the dozen. I loved their surprise factor. I can never remember just where I've planted them and BAM! They pop up in unexpected places. They take me to a time when as a child I was ill, feverish and miserable. Mama arranged a handful of King Alfred daffodils in a crystal vase and placed them near my bedside. It was my first grown up bouquet and formed a part of me that continues, now these years later, to share her "flowers make you feel better" philosophy as I give bouquets away. Daisies are in the garden because they're part of my history. When Joe and I were first married, barely making ends meet, he splurged one payday showering me with a small bouquet of daisies. In our 31 years together, I've received more expensive gifts, but the daisy remembrance is wrapped in the velvet of precious memories. I must ask him if he remembers. I am sure he does. Sunflowers are in my cutting garden although I cannot get myself to cut these beauties as they tower over the garden fence and flaunt their faces to the world. They tell me it's good to be sturdy and stand out from the crowd. A journal is like a garden where we "plant" our ideas, some perhaps too dear to share and some that are better left as secrets. We can place words on paper to write out, scratch out, rewrite and ponder at silent moments. There are no rules to journaling as there are no right or wrong ways to garden. Someday when I'm older, I may want to think back and marvel at my (possibly misspent) youthful middle age, juggling writing projects with a garden full of marauding slugs barely waiting until twilight to pay a visit. Taking time to write in a garden journal feels odd, especially if we're not practiced at jotting down thoughts, plans and even jumbled ideas. Knotty memories may shoot up and we may wonder if they're weeds or the sprouts of something to be cherished. Sometimes we have to wait and see. In our garden journal we need not censor or explain. The book can be for our eyes only, to be hidden away from others. That's the "job" of a journal. Journaling about the garden isn't great literature. It's simply a reflection of me. Oh, how I wish my grandmothers had kept journals. So if for nothing but the future, I'll write. Someday, perhaps from this beautiful new journal, a yet unborn child will say, "I'm planting sweet peas. Great Grandmother Eva adored them." This reader will know that in 2005, only lavender sweet peas produced flowers. That "fact" will disappear unless it's in my journal. I'm going to press flowers between the pages, a snapshot of my garden, maybe a bit of poetry, a photograph of my Welsh terrier, Buttons. I will add garden-variety quotes to stir me and thoughts I cannot do without. What will I write? What will YOU write? I'm a simple person and will scribble, "Today I've started this garden journal. With paper and pen I will tell myself about my garden." It's my hope you write about the breezes on your face, the soil on your fingers and the sunshine on your back, among other miracles. I pray you'll take up gardening with pen in hand. -- Eva Shaw, Ph.D. ___________________________________________ Eva is a woman who lives to write, garden and mentor. Tomato : |/\/\/ ` . .' . : . . ' ; `. . -._ :F_P:' `-._.-' >Tomato Growing Tips The Easiest Way To Grow Tomato Seedlings All you need is a pot full of dirt and a few tomato slices. That’s it! You can simply take old pieces of tomato that you bought at the store, plant them, and re-grow a bunch of tomato plants all over again. The types of tomatoes that work best for this trick are heirloom tomatoes that have been grown organically or ones that you know come from a garden. Here’s what to do: 1) Cut a ripe or over-ripe tomato into ¼ inch thick slices. 2) Place them in the dirt evenly spaced apart. 3) Cover the slices with a thin layer of potting soil. 4) Water regularly as needed. About a week or so after you plant the slices there will be a bunch of tiny little seedlings that have sprouted up. Take the larger ones and re-plant them in a new pot, you only want a couple in each container. After they’ve grown a bit more take the bigger ones out again and plant them in their own pot. Now you have the sturdiest, strongest tomato plants that will yield the plumpest, juiciest, and most delicious tomatoes you’ve ever tasted! --- ...Sounds great, Thanks Jo Ann! Plus you are sure to get the tomato you like the best. Hard to figure what is a yummy tomato from the nursery seedling plants. Additional Tips I've learned about vegetables at the store: The best way to tell if a tomato is yummy is by smelling it. The more the tomato vine smell, the better just picked taste it will be. At home to keep the tomatoes lasting longer, remove them from their vine and refrigerate them. Do the opposite for ones you need to ripen more. Set them out on a window sill. REALLY Green ones you want to ripen, place in a paper bag in a cool dark place for a couple days or until they are as ripe as you want them. The best way to choose a good corn cob is by picking it up. The fatter the cob the better! If no sign of rot at the top or just a little, then the big fat one will give you the juiciest and sweetest corn. The best way to choose a muskmelon is by pressing the center in where the stem used to be. As many of you are aware, the Knights of Columbus submitted to congress that the words "Under God" should be added to our pledge of allegiance. Both Houses of Congress passed the law and it was signed by President Eisenhower in 1954. The information below was based on a poll taken by NBC on what percentage should keep the words n our pledge versus the percent who want it removed. If you read this and agree that "under God" should be left in the pledge, then just forward it to others and you have voted for it to be left in. If you delete it and don't forward it, you are voting NO to "under God." Easy, huh? Elijah witnessed the miraculous and unequaled power of God as he prayed during his confrontation with the 450 prophets of Baal; "The fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, ... and also licked up the water in the trench" (1 Kings 18:38). After this unquestioned answer to prayer, Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and prayed for rain - there had not been rain in the land for three years. Once again, Elijah witnessed the miraculous hand of God; "The sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose and a heavy rain came" (1 Kings 18:45). But within a few days of these great spiritual victories, Queen Jezebel vowed to have Elijah killed. As soon as Elijah heard of the Queen's threat, he became afraid and ran for his life into the desert. 1 Kings 19:4 "He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. 'I have had enough, Lord,' he said. 'Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'" Elijah was a man who spoke directly with God and clearly witnessed His awesome power; yet, he fell into great despair when faced with this new adversity. Elijah experienced a wonderful victory, but it was quickly shattered. What caused Elijah to become so discouraged? Had he already forgotten God's power? Had a few victories caused him to take his eyes off God and begin to rely on his own strength? Or was he just worn out from being on the front line of ministry? Whatever the cause, in his moment of greatest victory Elijah became the most vulnerable to attack and failure; "I have had enough, Lord." When life is a struggle, we must pray and "trust in the Lord with all our heart" (Proverbs 3:5). When life is running smooth, we must pray harder and trust even more. But when we experience victory and dance on top of the mountain - when we begin to feel strong and "self" assured - we must pray as if our very life depended on it and lean on the Lord as never before. Our moments of greatest vulnerability to enemy attack come when we begin to think we no longer require God's help. After the mountaintop the broom tree is closer than we might think. Lord, remind us of our need! ALL we accomplish is through the strength of Christ; "apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). And as His promises are fulfilled in our lives, we must continue to walk daily by faith. Let's keep our eyes on Jesus and reclaim the life of dependent devotion. Let's remain in His presence and always guard against a fragile victory. --- ...Excellent advice! Thank You LouiseAu! Mazzella The grocery store is a great place to get food for your body, but I have found out recently that it can be an even better place to find food for your heart, soul, and mind. This happened the other day as I was walking through the local store to get some oatmeal. Two elderly ladies were standing by the fruit section catching up on old times. The first one jokingly asked her older friend how old she was now. The older lady answered loudly and to everyone’s delight: "Honey, I’m not nearly as old as I used to be." Everyone within ear shot laughed when they heard this including me. I realized too as I was walking out of the grocery store that I am not nearly as old as I used to be either. I am not nearly as old as I used to be when I constantly worried about my bills and how I was going to pay them. Now I just trust in God and I always seem to have more than enough. I am not nearly as old as I used to be when I fretted about my weight and my thinning and graying hair. Now I just look in the mirror and smile. The body may look a little older, but the soul on the inside is younger than ever. I am not nearly as old as I used to be when I was always judging others, being angry with them, or worrying about what they thought of me. Now I just do my best to judge no one, love everyone, and share my joy with the world. Life I have found is too short to live any other way. You don’t have to be as old as you used to be either. God made all of us both ageless and forever young. By choosing love, joy, and oneness with God you can always keep growing younger and younger on the inside. By sharing that love and joy you can give your youth, energy, and vitality to the world. By living from your soul you can stop counting your birthdays, start living for eternity, and always know that you will never again be as old as you used to be. -<>- _=,_ o_/6 /#\ \__ |##/ ='|--\ / #'-. \#|_ _'-. / |/ \_( # |" snd C/ ,--___/ >My Little Dollie Bill Walker wildbill6807@yahoo.com My little Dollie, my Little Girl as I call her, my little dog. One couldn't ask for a nicer little dog. Tinker and Poo both had crossed over through the thin curtain leaving me to mourn their passing. Remembering all the great times of their lives. After a couple weeks I could no longer stand it. I started to look for one to, well not to take their place, but one to move in and be my friend. I thought maybe I could find one that was in need of a home. I started to do the look around bit. A friend I knew was in the save Pekes deal. I wrote her a note asking if she had one that might take up with me. Carol White wrote me and said no, she had none right at the time.. Had a nice one, but it didn't fit as it must have been treated mean by a male type, and it ran from men. She didn't think it would work out for me. Later in the day she sent me information on one. Her words was get on this one fast. It is close by and is a beauty. Now I don't know as to the close by, from almost the Nebraska line to Tulsa is not to close.. I took one look at the picture, and said YEA, go for it. I made a call, at first I was given the run around of we got to know more about you. After a few notes and a couple phone call, which seemed to going no where, I got a call.. Yes if you pay the fees, you can have her. I Had to wait till Monday morning to go, this was Sunday morning. Monday I cranked the car and headed out. When I seen her in person. I knew I had to have her, at first she didn't like me, I could tell that. I think I understood her thinking. She was at a loss as to what had happened to her in the last few days. Now some knows the story as was told to me, while some will not. I am at a bit of loss on the story myself. I wonder about it a lot. The story was this woman came to this place and said the dog was lost. It had been found by her, camping on her door step, it was a lost dog. She took it in looked it over, gave it a drink of water and so on, but didn't have a need for a dog. So she brings dog to this place. This place is a finder of a home for dogs, and cats. Now the strange thing to me is the woman just knew a little to much about the dog, to have just found her. I after hearing the story had a feeling there may be the fact this could be a problem dog of some sort. It may have some bad health problem, something that will cost a few bucks ever so often.. I had that with poor Little Poo, I could figure about 4 or so times a year he has a cyst to be taken care of. That cost at least a hundred each time. I still wanted this little Doll, I paid the 45 dollars, and I got her and her football in the car, headed for home, It was late when we at last got home, her new home. I put her on a leash and let her walk about a bit before coming in the house. Got her in, put the water bowls full of water in a couple places. Tink and Poo always had three water bowls. Put a dish of food out for her. I showed her the beds the boys had, and put a couple towels down for her. I went to bed. The nest morning I still figured leash be best for a while.. She might find a small hole in the fence and be gone.. we did that for a few days, then I turned her out in the fenced in back. When I opened the gate to let her in she came right in. It took about 2 weeks, and she warmed up to me a little more each day. I thought about many different names I could tag her with. All at once it came to me. She is a girl, I called Tink and Poo the boys, and they answered to the name of Tink and Poo, but also I would say come on Boys, here they would be ready, with the what up boss look? So I started calling her Little Girl. Some times, I say Babe, Honey and other sweet talk to her. Girls I understand like sweet talk. She is a little Dollie, no fuss, trouble at all. Why did the someone give her away? I think now that is what happened. I no longer think she was a lost and found dog. There may have been a reason, a reason I will never know. All I know is I have a nice, pretty little Dollie of a dog. I think she loves me, that is more then I can say for the Dollies that comes with a never shut up mouth. Those either tell you things needs a fix up or shoveling food in the trap door called mouth. I think she will keep me. I sure don't think I need worry she will buy a Pick me up Truck, and a camper trailer, and go off bad mouthing me. And God made dogs, for us to call Adorables. Each has it reason for being here, just as you and I have a reason. I notice dogs come in all sizes, large and small, all colors, just like people. Dogs are a strange lot. All they want is to have a person to be with, as long as you will allow them to do so. The dog, gives you so much for so little in return. They will share with you, your lot in life. No matter be you rich, poor or some where in between. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Are Angels Real? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/angelsreal.html Alcohol And Drug Use http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/alcoholanddrugs.html Who Is Jesus Christ? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/whoisjesus.html Full Bible Study Menu http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/BibleStudy.html Jesus Clinic http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/clinic.html Let's Dance! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/dance.html Moses And The Red Sea! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/mosesredsea.html Hong Kong's Noah's Ark! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/noahsark2.html That's God! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thatsgod.html Christ's Life! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/jesuslife.html Rich VS Poor! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/richvspoor.html Hill Of Crosses! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/hillofcrosses.html Thank You God! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thankgod.html -<>- Who Is Jesus - In Every Book In The Bible http://domania.us/SwordSisters/Inspirations4/Jesus-IntheBible.html -<>- >From AFA: We warned Target this would happen...and it did http://tinyurl.com/gt42wkc -<>- >All The News: http://rightalerts.com/ -<>- >Paul Ryan: Access to classified information is a privilege and a responsibility not to be taken lightly. If we don't act quickly, Congress is going to send yet another giant check to the UN so that it can continue to bash America and undermine our interests. Right now, Americans are paying $1.2 BILLION per year in DUES to the UN. We also pay $2.3 BILLION, or 28 percent, of the UN peacekeeping budget. Then there are the "voluntary payments" for special UN programs and funds. In one recent year, we gave the UN a record total of $7.7 BILLION. America's taxpayers pay 25 percent of all UN expenses! The a-capella version of this famous song is one-of-a-kind and their voices are absolutely astounding - I for one couldn't believe how well they mimicked the song's guitar and drums. I was especially impressed with what sounds exactly like a guitar solo at the four-minute mark. Without a doubt, each one of these six men poured their hearts out into this song, finishing perfectly with a loud drum beat - making for a fittingly grand conclusion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW1dUnBhwL8 World Champion of Magic Greg Frewin at the French TV Show 'The Worlds Greatest Cabaret'. H. Niemann Joyce Schowalter Texas, USA It was too early and still dark at 5:30 a.m. as I drove through Houston, Texas on the way to my parents' house for our 2008 Thanksgiving dinner. As I drove south out of town on Highway 59, somewhere between Richmond and Rosenberg, I noted brake lights on the cars in front of me. As I got closer I saw two 18-wheeler tractor-trailer rigs, one in each lane, slowing down until they were next to each other and blocking any traffic from getting around them. I thought maybe there was an accident, or perhaps one of the trucks was getting in position to pass the other one. When the situation continued and the rigs even slowed down even further, I naturally got annoyed and started grumbling at the delay, cursing the rudeness of drivers with no consideration of others sharing the road with them. By this time, the rigs had slowed to almost 20 miles per hour and there was a long line of impatient cars behind them. My whole mindset changed dramatically, however, when I was able to get a peek into the gap between the rigs at the road ahead. I saw a car weaving all over the road, slowing down and speeding up, slewing from one shoulder to the other. The two rigs never faltered in their tandem blockade, ignoring the impatient honks of the cars behind them and moving over as necessary to keep cars from going around them on the highway shoulders. This situation continued for about another 15 minutes until three police cars, lights flashing, came racing up the access road and around the two 18-wheeler rigs. I watched while the police cars herded the weaving car to the side of the highway and forced it to stop. The 18-wheeler rigs then sped up and moved over to let all the cars pass by. I have no doubt those two 18-wheeler rigs saved many lives, not to mention the impaired driver of the weaving car, on that Thanksgiving morning. I only wish I had had the presence of mind to note which trucking companies those drivers worked for so I could have sent their companies a note. I've always considered 18-wheeler truckers the unofficial "angels" of the highway -- they are often in the right place at the right time and always, in my experience, help when they can with no expectations of reward or even thanks. What I observed that November only reinforced my opinion of these unsung Good Samaritans. I gave those two truckers what thanks I could by honking and waving as I drove by... on my way to a truly thankful day with my family. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Laugh And Lift: _ _|_|_ ,|_| |_|_ || | | |_| || | | | | || | | | | _|| | | | | ||)\ ^ ^ ^ | || | | || | | || | | \\ | \\ / ejm )\ ( / \ \ / \ \ \ \ >Pleading With the Lord (By Alan Smith) I heard about a youth minister who sent a thank you letter to those adults who had served in some way throughout the previous year. His letter began: "Last summer I asked you to consider working as a youth coach in our church's junior high youth group. I am thankful for your acceptance of that challenge over this past school year. You may have felt extremely incapable as you thought about working with junior highers, but you claimed 2 Corinthians 12:9 nevertheless." Part of this verse says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." However, his secretary made the mistake of typing 2 Corinthians 12:8 as the scripture reference instead, which reads, "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me." Though the particular verse quoted may not have conveyed the proper thought, that whole passage in 2 Corinthians is a powerful lesson to us. Through it, we learn that God does not always grant us what we request in prayer. Sometimes he sees that what would be best for us is not the same thing as what we believe would be best for us. We want the problems to disappear; God wants us to grow closer to him. We want life to be easier; God wants us to mature and be strengthened. Listen again: "Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Cor. 12:8-10). Perhaps there is a trial in your life that you are praying for God to remove. He may do so. But if he does not, may God bless you with grace and strength.
