My father, an alcoholic, was hardly able to care for himself, much less an infant and a 3 year-old toddler. So my aunt and uncle in Oklahoma raised my older brother and me from the time I was a tiny baby. They were so good to us and treated us just like their own. But ever since I was a little kid, about 7 or 8 years old, I had always yearned to go to New Mexico to visit my mother's grave site. I suppose I was searching for some connection to the mother I'd never known. My blind husband is a Blues musician and had been invited to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to play for a fund raiser to benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind. The day after the concert, we set out for the small town -- a four- hour drive away from where I was born. I was finally going to realize my childhood dream of being in a place where my mother had been. Once we arrived, we stopped at a local florist to get some flowers to take to the cemetery. We found a big, beautiful bouquet -- one that I hoped my mother would have loved. After purchasing the flowers, I asked the sales clerk in the florist shop, "Could you give me driving directions to Oaklawn Cemetery?" "Sure," she said, and then wrote down the directions and handed them to me. "Thanks so much," I replied. It was raining that Saturday morning. "Rather fitting for our destination," I thought to myself. When we got to the cemetery, it was closed. Locked up. I asked Morris, "Did you ever in your life hear of a cemetery being closed, especially on a Saturday?" After the initial disappointment that I'd waited 44 years and come all this way just to be denied access, we drove around all four sides of Oaklawn Cemetery looking for, and eventually finding, a gate that was unlocked through which we could walk into the cemetery. We took the flowers and walked in the rain. And we walked and we walked -- up one row and down another. This was not a small cemetery either. The two of us walked together hand-in-hand for over an hour in the rain with no umbrella and no success. We went back to the rental car to sit down and rest. My older brother had visited there several years ago, so I called him from my cell phone. "Robert, we're at the cemetery in Farmington and I can't find mother's grave site. Do you remember where it is? Can you tell me where to look?" "All I can remember is that she's buried on a sloping hill by a big cedar tree," was his reply. I told him, "But now all the roads in the cemetery are lined with cedar trees." I was so let down. It would take forever find it with just that information. "She has a brown headstone," he added. Soaking wet, Morris and I got out of the car and walked in the rain again. This time to an area that we hadn't walked before, checking all the brown headstones. I pondered the many lives represented by those tombstones and the losses suffered by their families, and saddened for my own loss. And then, I saw it -- a brown headstone with her name on it. The headstone read: Florence Anne Henderson July 27, 1925 - June 2, 1960 To Know Her Was To Love Her. We had found it! Morris and I walked through the rain and placed the big bouquet of bright, colorful flowers on her grave. As we stood in front of the beautiful, weather-worn, brown headstone, almost immediately the rain stopped and the bright, midday sun burst through dark gray clouds! I looked up thinking, "Mama, is that you?" Maybe, just maybe, someone above the clouds was watching and was as glad to see me as I was to finally be there. -- Melody Cummings ___________________________________________ Melody lives in Memphis, Tennessee and is a computer programmer. Over the centuries it had been struck by lightning fourteen times, braved great windstorms, and even defied an earthquake. In the end, however, it was killed by little beetles. Boring under the bark, they chewed away its mighty fibers until the giant of the forest lay broken on the ground.2 Little things can either make us or break us. A little lie, a little theft, a little laziness, a little neglect, a little drink a little too often, a little sarcasm, a little denial here and a little there, being a little too critical - bit by bit we can add them all together and eventually hurt or destroy our relationships, our physical and/or mental health, and our walk with God. On the other hand, a little smile, a little deed of kindness, a little encouraging word, a little thoughtful gift, a little phone call, a little bit of love given a lot of times every day can add up to a whole lot of sunshine that we can spread wherever we are and go - and in so doing encourage others, enhance our relationships, improve our physical and mental health, and please the heart of God. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me be aware of the many little things in my life. Help me to clean out all the 'little' sins and self-destructive habits that hurt myself and others, and help me to keep on practicing little acts of love and kindness until they become an everyday habit that will show your love to others and please your heart. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus Christ's name, amen." 1. Song of Solomon 2:15 (NIV). 2. You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.’"1 I cannot even begin to imagine all the thoughts and feelings that Jesus was experiencing in the passage above. In the first verse of John 13 we read, “...Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end." Despite his feelings, He selflessly set them aside at the moment and focused on his purpose. He wanted to take advantage of every moment with his disciples to teach them, hands on, what it looked like to be a follower of Jesus. Not only did he actively model a life of service to them, but he also wanted to make sure they understood it and did it. He did not want them to have any excuse for not serving others. Jesus spent every moment leading up to his death serving and blessing others. What a beautiful example of love. This led me to think of my life. When I encounter undesirable circumstances in life, many times the last thing I think about is serving or blessing others through it. Sometimes I prefer to avoid interacting with other people until the stress passes! But by doing this, I miss out on the blessings God has for me. Imagine the impact our testimony could have if we focused on our purpose instead of the problem. Loving and serving others through our problems or stressful moments is evidence of our faith and trust in God. However, we will all have bad days and will at times need to take some time alone to process and pray. That is what Jesus did when he went to pray in Gethsemane. There came a moment when he told his disciples “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Then he goes a little farther to be alone with his Father.2 Even in that he taught us... when we get overwhelmed or we don’t know what to do, go to the Father. Let today’s scripture be a reminder and encouragement to us to actively follow Jesus by doing what he taught us to do. Suggested prayer: Dear God, thank you for the example of love that you gave us in Jesus. I ask that you help me do the things he taught us to do. Serving and loving others was his purpose all the way to the cross. Even when he knew he would be betrayed, he did not let that distract him from doing what he needed to do. I pray that I would, like Jesus, focus on my purpose more than my problems, and when I feel overwhelmed, that I would go to you in prayer and trust that your will and plans are good. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen." 1 John 13:12-17 (NLT). 2 Matthew 26:36-46. I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. "God," I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?" His answer surprised me... "Look around," He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?" "Yes", I replied. "When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo." He said. "Then in the third year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant... But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots." "I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others." He said. " The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet, they both make the forest beautiful." "Your time will come," God said to me. "You will rise high!" "How high should I rise?" I asked. "How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return. "As high as it can?" I questioned. "Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can." I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you. He will never give up on you. Never regret a day in your life. The ship's bow is mired in mud, but the team 'looked' at the hull using sound waves. They concluded that the damage is 'astonishingly small,' just six small gashes along the starboard hull. Unfortunately, the openings were made at the worst possible place, along six watertight holds." Little things can do great damage: a little lie here, a little cheating there, a little stealing, a little gossip, and/or a little unresolved conflict--like a little gash in a mighty ship--can open a floodgate of damage somewhere down the track. He loved them, And they were going to crucify Him. He was beaten, bleeding and weakened... His heart was broken, But still He walked. He could see the crowd as He came from the palace. He knew each of the faces so well. He had preached and prayed with them. He knew every smile, laugh, and shed tear, But now they were contorted with rage and anger... His heart broke, But still He walked. Was He scared? You and I would have been So his humanness would have mandated that He was. He felt alone. His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed Him. He searched the crowd for a loving face and He saw very few. Then He turned his eyes to the only One that mattered And He knew that He would never be alone. He looked back at the crowd, at the people who were spitting At Him, throwing rocks at Him and mocking Him and He knew That because of Him, they would never be alone. So for them, He walked. The sounds of the hammer striking the spikes echoed through The crowd. The sounds of His cries echoed even louder, The cheers of the crowd, as His hands and feet Were nailed to the cross, intensified with each blow. Loudest of all was the still small voice inside His Heart that whispered "I am with You, my Son", And God's heart broke, still He had let His son walk. Jesus could have asked God to end His suffering, But instead He asked God to forgive them. Not to forgive Him, but to forgive the ones who were persecuting Him. As He hung on that cross, dying an unimaginable death, He looked out and saw, not only the faces in the crowd, But also, the face of every person yet to be, And His heart filled with love. As His body was dying, His heart was alive. Alive with the limitless, unconditional love He feels for each of us and for God. That is why He walked. When I forget how much Jesus and My God loves me, I remember His walk. When I wonder if I can be forgiven, I remember His walk. When I need to be filled with hope, I remember His walk. When I need reminded of how to live like Christ, I think of His walk. And to show him how much I love him, I wake up each morning, turn my eyes to Him, And I walk. -<>- __ /_/\/\ \_\ / /_/ \ \_\/\ \ \_\/ unknown >How To Forgive One day a while back, a man, his heart heavy with grief, was walking in the woods. As he thought about his life this day, he knew many things were not right. He thought about those who had lied about him back when he had a job. His thoughts turned to those who had stolen his things and cheated him. He remembered family that had passed on. His mind turned to the illness he had that no one could cure. His very soul was filled with anger, resentment and frustration. Standing there this day, searching for answers he could not find, knowing all else had failed him, he knelt at the base of an old oak tree to seek the one he knew would always be there. And with tears in his eyes, he prayed: "Lord- You have done wonderful things for me in this life. You have told me to do many things for you, and I happily obeyed. Today, you have told me to forgive. I am sad, Lord, because I cannot. I don't know how. It is not fair Lord. I didn't deserve these wrongs that were done against me and I shouldn't have to forgive. As perfect as your way is Lord, this one thing I cannot do, for I don't know how to forgive. My anger is so deep Lord, I fear I may not hear you, but I pray that you teach me to do this one thing I cannot do - Teach me To Forgive." As he knelt there in the quiet shade of that old oak tree, he felt something fall onto his shoulder. He opened his eyes. Out of the corner of one eye, he saw something red on his shirt. He could not turn to see what it was because where the oak tree had been was a large square piece of wood in the ground. He raised his head and saw two feet held to the wood with a large spike through them. He raised his head more, and tears came to his eyes as he saw Jesus hanging on a cross. He saw spikes in His hands, a gash in His side, a torn and battered body, deep thorns sunk into His head. Finally he saw the suffering and pain on His precious face. As their eyes met, the man's tears turned to sobbing, and Jesus began to speak. "Have you ever told a lie?" He asked? The man answered - "yes, Lord." "Have you ever been given too much change and kept it?" The man answered - " yes. Lord." And the man sobbed more and more. "Have you ever taken something from work that wasn't yours?" Jesus asked. And the man answered - "yes, Lord." "Have you ever sworn, using my Father's name in vain? " The man, crying now, answered - "yes, Lord." As Jesus asked many more times, "Have you ever"? The man's crying became uncontrollable, for he could only answer - "yes, Lord." Then Jesus turned His head from one side to the other, and the man felt something fall on his other shoulder. He looked and saw that it was the blood of Jesus. When he looked back up, his eyes met those of Jesus, and there was a look of love the man had never seen or known before. Jesus said, "I didn't deserve this either, but I forgive you." It may be hard to see how you're going to get through something, but when you look back in life, you realize how true this statement is. Read the following first line slowly and let it sink in. If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it. When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you! If you are one of the 7% who will stand up for him, forward this with the Title 7.% 93% of people won't forward this. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment :) Incredible Wildlife 4!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wildlife4.html Abandoned Chihuahua Boo!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/boo.html The Sleep Metaphor!- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/sleepmetaphor.html Short Life Stories http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/lifestories.html Living Tree Church!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/treechurch.html Never Give Up!- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/nevergiveup.html Beautiful Bridges!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bridges.html Amazing Bus Stops!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bus.html Miracle Coyote http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/coyote.html Koalas In A Heatwave!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/koalas.html Amazing Human Body!- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/humanbody.html Ten Life Tips!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lifetips.html Amazing Trivia Car Facts!- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/triviacarfacts.html Pay It Forward!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/payitforward.html Rescued Squirrel!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/rsquirrel.html Inspiring Seniors!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/inspiringseniors.html No Words Needed!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/nowords.html God's Night Lights!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/night.html Old US City Photos!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/uscities.html Jesus Laughing Art!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/Jesusart.html Salvation Mountain!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/salvation.html Mom's And Dad's Index! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/momsanddadsindex.html -<>- Article: Enjoying the Bible https://tinyurl.com/y8uzhcgu A Quick Reference to the Books of the Bible https://tinyurl.com/y84o98rj Mr.Mom Website: http://mrmom.amaonline.com/default.htm Even Through the Pain and Suffering – We Must Praise Him in the Waiting / This Organization Is Helping Homeless Moms Break Free of Physical and Spiritual Bondage / Prayer Saved the Lives of More Than 500 Unborn Babies in the Most Incredible Way / These Christians In India Were Harassed and Forced to Do the Unthinkable / Horrific: Chinese Christians Tortured With Forced Conversions and Psychological Brainwashing https://www.christianlifedaily.com/ States Fight Back Against Biden’s Latest Transgender Mandate / 5 Effective Ways To Support Our Children’s Mental Health / Victory! What's True Mass killings of civilians by military dictatorships in the 1900s were more often than not preceded by the confiscation of firearms from targeted populations, a task made easier by laws requiring the registration and/or licensing of privately-owned weapons. Read that again... MASS KILLINGS of civilians by military dictatorships in the 1900s were MORE OFTEN than not PRECEDED BY the CONFISCATION of firearms from targeted populations, a task MADE EASIER BY laws REQUIRING the REGISTRATION and/or licensing of privately-owned WEAPONS. That alone should have been enough for a Mostly True rating, however they say this tipped it to being Mostly False... What's False "Gun control" isn't synonymous with gun confiscation; in some cases where genocide occurred, gun restriction laws had already been in place for many years prior, and evidence does not demonstrate a causal link between gun control and mass exterminations. Somehow they don't think what they say is just 'Gun control' won't lead to gun confiscation. However, in each of these cases, the 'gun control' got way over the top so gun confiscation and de-arming of law abiding citizens occurred and so did mass murder by their government. They seem to be nit-picking! We all want good gun control laws. Which we pretty much already have in place now. They are aimed at making sure people who qualify are allowed to own a gun and those who do not qualify, can't legally own a gun. However, we all know that the bad guys care less about legal ownership of a gun. in fact, they'd rather get a street gun or an illegal gun so it can't be traced back to them. More laws and restrictions will only make law abiding citizens less apt to own a gun - making them less able to defend themselves. And in this de-fund the police mentality of the left-leaning states, that means it's not good for the average innocent citizen. It only helps the crooks and bad guys. With less cops around and less armed private citizens, the bad guys can do as they please and get away with it. ========================================================== >-->Does a Dead Man Cry? .---. ___ /_____\ /\.-`( '.' ) / / \_-_/_ \ `-.-"`'V'//-. `.__, |// , \ |Ll //Ll|\ \ |__// | \_\ /---|[]==| / / \__/ | \/\/ /_ | Ll_\| |`^"""^`| | | | | | | | | | | | | L___l___J jgs |_ | _| (___|___) ^^^ ^^^ Roger McLaughlin was washing some dead soldiers in Vietnam, when his buddy asked, "What about tear glands? Can they still work after death?" It did appear that one of the dead was crying. Roger McLaughlin served in Vietnam as an Air Force medic. In 1971, following his tour of duty, he wrote the article below for the New Era magazine which has just been republished in Saints at War, Korea and Vietnam. Following the war he became a student in hospital administration at the University of Colorado and an early morning seminary teacher. The sun cascaded down in soft, warm waves of delight against my hardened muscles. The light and warmth gently massaged me from the lazy slumber by bringing to mind this morning's inner glow-this morning's miracle. It was a conference Sunday. Don, Tracy, and I were the only Mormons left on base. We were on call and couldn't get the day off to go to Nha Trang to conference. Since we were all in the same unit, we met after breakfast and had our own sacrament and testimony meeting. It had been a simple service, with two of us to bless and one to pass to the two who had blessed. It was solemn and very special to us. After our little meeting, Tracy left to go to the squadron post, and Don and I spent the next hour and a half at the Base Exchange, visiting and drinking thin, powdered milk malts. They weren't good, but the longer we were in Vietnam, the better they tasted. Then Don and I decided to go over to MACV (Military Assistance Command Vietnam) and see the Vietnamese tailors about making some poncho jackets to take home. Don commented that Tracy wanted one, so we jumped in the cracker-box ambulance and drove down to the flight line to get him. Don went inside the rescue shack but soon returned with the news that Tracy had gone over to the morgue building to help with some KIAS (killed in action) that had just arrived. We sat there for a few minutes trying to decide whether or not to go and get him; if we did, we might get put to work. We could simply go on over without him. We decided we wanted him along, even if it meant working for a while on our day off. We were going to relax, even if we had to work all day at it. As we entered the building, the air conditioning felt like a tidal wave of relief from the smothering sun outdoors, which had soaked our fatigues with sweat. We stood there and enjoyed the cool breezes, joking about how if we got too cold, the sweat might turn to ice and then, of course, we wouldn't have to work. An army master surgeon, who had come through the door that led to the back rooms, asked us politely what we wanted. Don answered that we wanted Tracy. He pointed a thumb over his shoulder and said he was "back there." We walked through the doorway to the huge back room where Tracy was working. A strong odor of medical cleansing chemicals permeated the coolness. Tracy was standing over a nearly nude body lying on one of the cold metal tables. Corpses were on eight other steel tables. Some of the bodies were still clothed with muddy, blood-soaked fatigues. Others were nude except for a towel draped across them. The room was well-lighted, and there was no real feeling of being in a morgue, except for the presence of the bodies. Tracy looked up and smiled. "Hey guys, what are you doing here?" We smiled back and told him about the jackets we were going to have made. He lit up like a diamond and assured us that he did want one, but he couldn't go with us until he finished cleaning the bodies. We asked how he had got this duty. He told us how he had been helping Dustoff go after casualties down by Dok. He helped pick up a bunch of guys and had taken them to 71st Evacuation Hospital (EVAC): when he had noticed these corpses in the emergency section, he volunteered to bring them here to the morgue and get them ready to be shipped stateside. The master surgeon appreciated the help, as his troops had left earlier that morning to go to Pleiku City. (Medical Evacuation helicopters were called, "Dust Off" in the 101st Airborne and were choppers that flew into combat unarmed. The Army decided to paint the "Dust Off" helicopters completely white, with giant red crosses, making them even better targets.) We understood Tracy's desire to help, and we pitched in to help him with the four remaining bodies so we could go over to MACV compound together. Don and I grabbed cleaning solution rags, and picked out the nearest casualty to work on. We talked about the way these guys had been killed and about the war in general. First we took off their fatigues, then washed and scrubbed their bodies with a thin green disinfection solution, rinsed them in warm clean water and dried them off. With the three of us working and talking together it didn't take long to finish cleaning the bodies. We were about ready to leave when Don asked, "Hey, Poco, is it true a person's system keeps on going in some respects after he has died?" I looked up at him and replied, "Well, I've heard the hair keeps growing for a couple of hours but it really isn't that noticeable. The brain can function a few minutes after the heart stops, but I guess that's about all. Why?" "Well, what about the tear glands? Can they still work after death?" "I've never heard of anything like that but I guess it's possible-why all the questions?" "Well, I thought we might have left some of the rinse water in this guy's eyes, but I've wiped them twice now and he is getting water in the corners of the eyes again. I think he's tearing." Tracy and I stood up and walked over to the body. As we looked into the face of the shrapnel-torn boy of about eighteen, a single tear crept and ran down the side of his face and into his ear. "This man is alive," I breathed. The response was immediate, as if we had done this a hundred times. Don grabbed the keys to the cracker-box ambulance and opened the doors for us as Tracy and I carried the body out. We put him on the stretcher and Don headed the ambulance toward the 71st EVAC, the siren blaring our warning. As we bounced along Tracy wiped another tear from the boy's face. I looked at his dog tag to get his name as I wanted to give him a blessing. It was then I noticed on the bottom of the tag three little letters-LDS. I placed my hands on his head and uttered an almost inaudible prayer: "By the authority of the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood which I hold and through the power of Jesus Christ, I command you to stay alive until we can get the proper medical attention to restore your life." Tracy looked at me and wiped a tear from his own eyes, smiled a thankful smile, and bowed his head in a silent prayer. The siren stopped and we cruised down the asphalt road to the open door of the 71st EVAC Hospital. Army medics helped lift the soldier out of the ambulance and carried him into the emergency room. Two doctors began asking us questions, and we told them all we could. Without a word, they disappeared through the doors of the emergency entrance and we sat on a long wooden bench for more than two hours. We were discussing going over to get the jackets when one of the physicians came outside and walked toward us. We stood up. "I'm glad you guys waited." He began, "I want to tell you of a miracle that has happened. That boy in there should by all medical standards be dead. He had been wounded in nine places. He had lost so much blood he wasn't bleeding anymore. His heart was so weak we couldn't hear a heartbeat or feel a pulse. He had become so weak his breathing was unnoticeable. He was legally dead. But in reality he was still alive. "He was so weak he couldn't move or respond, and so he lay there on that cold table of the morgue and cried. He is mighty lucky you noticed the tears, because he could have died soon. As a matter of fact, he should have died even after you brought him here. Although we gave him four pints of blood and repaired his wounds as best we could, he still lacked the strength to recover, but he did." He paused, then looked directly at us, "In the eight years I've practiced medicine and for the fifteen months I've been here in Vietnam I've never seen such a miracle." He looked at the ground as he spoke. "You know something, that young soldier looked at me a few minutes ago, smiled a very weak smile and said, 'Priesthood.' What do you suppose he meant by that?" Not waiting for an answer, the doctor slowly turned and walked back through the opened doors of the hospital. Now as I lie here basking in the sun, I know I'll go back sometime and explain to the doctor. But right now I just want to rest and experience the joy of having participated in a modern-day miracle. Start the cleaning when the weather is warm and Spring really is here. I haven’t started Spring cleaning yet because it’s been chilly (it’s actually snowing here this week!). The Spring weather seems to breathe energy and new life into everything it touches–it really does add a bounce to your step when cleaning with the windows wide open letting in a fresh breeze, the sun shining and the birds busy chirping. About a week or so before you start the “Big Clean”, start de- cluttering and picking up whenever you have some spare minutes. This can save big chunks of time when you start deep cleaning, but it’s also like exercising: Think of this time as building up your cleaning muscles, you’re building momentum for the big event. It’s all about perspective: I look at our home as the hub of my family. I want it to be clean and comfortable, a pleasant place to be. I find that when I put effort into my home, there’s a positive, nurturing vibe that embraces my family–and they respond to that! I keep that in mind when I pull out the mops, buckets and cleaners–it helps focus me on all the positives of a clean home. Escape to a fun place: While cleaning, put on music you love, pump up the volume and let the music take your mind away from the scrubbing, sweeping and mopping. Learn while you clean: Download audio books or podcasts you never seem to have time to enjoy and listen to them with your iPod or mp3 player while you clean. The time flies so fast with this trick! as seen at www.tipnut.com -<>- .g$$$Sbp. .d$$$$SSS$$Sp. dS$$$$SS$$$$$SSb. :S$$$$$SSSS$$$$$SSb $S$$$$$$SS$SSSSSS$S; :$$$S$$SS^"^^""^TSSS: $$$S$$SP T$SS; :$$$S$SP $$SS $$$S$$$ :$$S; :$$$S$$;=-. ,-=^.T$$Sb $$$SS$$.__.\ .__. $S$$$b .d$$SS$$; "" "" :SSS$$; d$$SSS$$$ :S$$S$$ :$$SS$$$$; ._. $$S$$$$ $$SS$$$$S$b .___. d$$$S$$; :SSS$$S$S$$b \.-./ d$$$$S$P`. `^S$S$$SS$$b. `-' .'\^T$P^' \ TS^T$SSSP `.___.' \ __\___ .: `. .'.--\ `. bug .' ; :./ / \ \ .-" __:__. .--;"\: ; ; .-""""" \ `--' : ; : : .' `. ; : ; ; / `. / ; : : : "-. / : \ ; ; `-.' ; \ : ; \ ( ) : \ : ; " ; \ >SOMETIMES YOU DON'T REJOICE This week my wife lost her "Grandmother's Charm Necklace", one of those that have the little people on it that represent special people in your lives, like grandchildren. We found the necklace, however there was one of the little charms missing. We searched everywhere we could think of and couldn't find it. She even got a small sweeper and swept the floor hoping to find it. We had no luck, it's still missing. Of course this brought to mind the story of the woman who lost a coin in Luke 15:8-9. Jesus said, "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' The little figure my wife lost was not particularly valuable, but it was precious because it represented the memory of someone close to her. What is it that you hold close to your heart as being of special value? Granted to someone else it might seem foolish or not worth worrying about, but to you it is special. Why, what makes it special to you? Now what you may or may not remember about the scripture above, the point is really not about finding lost coins, (or even about finding lost charms), it is about finding lost people. The rest of the verse says, "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Eventually the charm was found, but I wonder if we put the same amount of concern, prayer and searching for lost people as we do for lost things. Perhaps it's time for us to step back and look at our lives and see what is really important, what we really value, what we would regret if we lost it (or them). In our life, my wife and I have come to realize that it is not things that are really important. You can't take things with you, what is important is people, because those you can take with you to heaven. People are what are really worthy of rejoicing about! Take a look around you and ask yourself the question, "If I lost all that surrounds me, would it really matter?" What is it that we really value in life? Maybe it's time to make a choice! If you don't rejoice for finding the right things, you may not rejoice at all! It wasn't meant to be an insult. In fact, I took it as a great tribute to what I did. She went on to say," You scavenge through life to find things that are so important yet overlooked by most people." I clarified it by saying that sometimes the most important things are so obvious that they become the back drop of our lives. We deem them important, expected, then shove them to the background. Like watching a movie. I often times listen to the main characters but watch the people in the background. The "extras," as they are called. They add to the experience as much as the leads. That's where the problem begins. We take people, places, moments for granted. We see them as "extras" in the movie of your life. So, this scavenger spends more time searching out the extras. Almost like the show "American Pickers." The two main characters scavenge through attics and barns looking for things that, by themselves are significant, but buried in piles of debris, go unnoticed and overlooked. Never take anything or more importantly anyone, for granted. Make an effort to make everyone you meet the main character in your time with them...if only for a moment, an hour, a day or a lifetime. The photo included with this message is something that happens everyday during the summer. The sun sets behind our home. The trees filter the light and for just a few minutes, blinding beams of sun light break through. I discovered this last summer and took that picture with my phone. Seeing it head on is dramatic indeed. Seeing it from the side the light appears to be like arms stretching, searching across the land as if trying desperately to hold onto the day. Maybe even slow it down. From where I stood, the fading warmth, the brightness of the light washed over me as if I needed one last cleansing. Perhaps one final reminder that I had lived at all that day and saw it through until its end. I did. I stood there until I could see the sun no more. It makes for a nice picture, but it is so much more than that. It is a reminder that I had lived, that I had made it through another day and by all standards of worth, it was more valuable than gold. God could not promise me that I would see it again. Tomorrow is promised to no one. He promises that it will return, it will rise again on the other side of my house and has from the beginning of time. The difference is most people are so busy that they will not take notice. Their clocks, watches, schedules, meetings, meals all fall into the time it takes for it to happen, but nowhere in that time period do they take time to see it happen. It's all a part of the scenery of the life they live and taken for granted like the birds, the trees, the rocks, the roads, the pathways marked through forest glen and the people who appear as "extras." Stop it! Every sun set is different. Every sun rise is proof that God has given you another chance. Between the rise and the setting will be woven breath taking moments, awe inspiring scenes written by the Great Author who sees nothing as insignificant, no one as extras and you as the lead role in the life written just for you.
