Reminds me of when the kids were little we were going to be gone all day so we put our normally inside part German Shepard dog, Sheba, outside. She obviously didn't appreciate our thoughtfulness as when we got home, we found our metal and wood door completely tore in to. She had the metal bent back and the wood all in pieces. It had a huge gaping hole so she could go in and out comfortably while we were gone. She made her own doggy door. It totally stunned us! Not only that she did it, but also that none of our neighbors stopped her from doing it! =========================================================== >-->From Heartwarmers: >A NEW BROTHER -- AT 77 by Carol Clarke Today I am going to tell you a wonderful story about a man named David who was born in 1927. He was born to a couple who were not married and consequently put up for adoption. He was born in Berkeley, California. (He now lives in a small town which is not too far from Berkeley.) The couple who adopted him raised a wonderful son who joined the Army in the mid forties and was an MP. But he always wondered about his parents. He eventually married a very nice woman and had two daughters who grew up to be good and intelligent women. He started hunting for his father but due to a mistake on the birth certificate they could not locate him. The birth certificate showed his dad being born in the same town as his birth mom. The parents probably never discussed where they were born and when asked, the mother probably just say the father was born in the same town she was -- Butte, Montana. David went to Butte and after much searching could not locate anything on his dad. His daughter, June, finally started her research and located a couple of men who said they were related to his dad. However, DNA tests indicated it was a very distant relationship. Meanwhile, June contacted my cousin's daughter Glynda who I am very close to. Glynda sent the email to me stating this might be something I would want to look into. I contacted June and she had some information that we knew was true. When I was 2 years old, my father was killed on February 20, 1937, working as a mechanic for the gas company. I even have the newspaper article. I always felt a bond to him as I was growing up. As I grew older, I started meeting and visiting my dad’s family and I was able to piece together a story of his life -- where he was, what he did and where he lived. So I was ready to answer questions and invited David, his wife, and June to my place in San Jose, about three hours from where they live. When he walked in, I thought to myself, he had the Booth’s nose and paunch. We exchanged birth certificates, and I saw the mistake on his. It should have shown that his father was born in Illinois, and not Montana. I really liked David's family. Unlike my family, who had so many traumas growing up, David's family was stable and close. I wanted his family to be a part of mine. We decided to do a DNA test and I got the news back today. David is my older brother by 7 years. I am 77 and he is 84. Now how sweet is that! It’s going to be a super happy ending. David has skin cancer, and I have lung cancer, but we are both doing well and hopefully will be able to enjoy being a family. You cannot believe the joy I feel knowing this man’s search has finally came to an end and he became part of our family. I have my cousin’s daughter and his daughter putting the word out on the Ancestry.com site. So welcome to my dysfunctional family David, you will add a bit of class to it. -- Carol Clarke ========================================================== >-->From Our Friend Linda :) ............. .' When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit. "I guess you were expecting me, he said. No, who are you?" said the father. The minister told him his name and then remarked, "I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew I was going to show up." "Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?" Puzzled, the minister shut the door. "I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man. But all of my life I have never known how to pray. At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head." I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued, "until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me, "Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest." Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It's not spooky because he promised, 'I will be with you always'. "Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now." "So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I'm careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm." The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church. Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon. Did he die in peace?" he asked. Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead. But there was something strange about his death. Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed. What do you make of that?" The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that." Consider sending this out to family and friends. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden. I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU... --- ...aww, a heartwarmer! Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Some people start projects with great enthusiasm but then don't always finish them. That is me. I get really excited about starting something, but sometimes I lose interest. For instance, when I cook, I am excited about getting the meal ready and eating it, but then I don't really like to clean up. Or when it is time to clean out the garage, I will get three-fourths of it done, and then I will say, "I will finish up the rest later on today." And guess what? I never do. Aren't you glad that God isn't that way? Imagine if God said, "You know, I love you. I have chosen you. I want to transform you into My image. But I am kind of bored with you. I am moving on now." "What? Wait. You are not going to finish?" "No. I have moved on. I found someone more interesting than you." But God finishes what He starts. Scripture tells us that He is "the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2, emphasis added). And Philippians 1:6 says, "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." But here is what we need to remember: God does His work in His way in His own timing. As Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time." But sometimes we grow impatient with God. We say, "Lord, finish this!" He will finish it—you can be confident of that. But sometimes if we don't see any tangible progress, we think that God has lost interest in us or perhaps has even abandoned us. We need to remember that is never the case. He will complete what He has started. as seen in Daily Devotion with Greg Laurie -<>- ,--. ,--. ( O ) ( O ) `--' \ `--' \ _ >-. / /| `-.__.' Krogg >A WAVE AND A SMILE Psalm 146:5 - Happy are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. (NLT) When I was a little girl, we headed to the Smokey Mountains in October to enjoy the beauty of the trees in their fall dresses. I quickly discovered how much fun it was to wave at the people who sat rocking on their front porch. They always waved back as if they knew who I was and were really glad to see me. I soon learned that it wasn't just me they waved to, but that was okay; I was still happy. It also works well to wave at the engineer of a passing freight train or the passengers in a boat passing by, but when driving around town, have you ever tried waving enthusiastically to a person you happen to pass whom you don't know? The other day, I experimented with waving at strangers, and guess what I discovered? No one knew how to wave back! I wanted to stop, get out of my car, and explain how much fun it can be to play the waving game. I wanted to tell them that smiling and waving is good for us. Yesterday I went to the grocery store; neither the cashier nor the person bagging my items smiled, though I smiled at them. As I headed for the door, in passing, a young employee had a big, genuine smile on her face, and she said, "Have a nice day!" I stopped in front of her, thanked her for her beautiful smile and greeting, and told her that my day would be better because of her. Some days are more challenging than others, and we may not always feel like smiling and waving, but the rewards are worth the effort. Scripture reminds us: Proverbs 15:13a - A glad heart makes a happy face. (NLT) Nehemiah 8:10b - Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength! (NLT) Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we be diligent to share with others the joy which we experience through knowing You. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen. Mazzella I read recently in an inspirational book that all of us have not just one guardian angel watching over us, but many such angels all though our days. This made me smile at the love God must have for us all to give us so much unseen help in our lives. It also made me feel a bit self-conscious about having angels watching over my every choice and action. In the end, however, I decided that I would just do my best moment by moment and day by day to make my guardian angels smile. What would you do to make your guardian angels smile? Would you be polite to the person being rude to you and return kindness for anger and love for hate? Would you share part of the money you earn with those who are in great need and continue to trust in God to meet all your needs as well? Would you slow down your walk long enough to smell a newly blooming flower or freshly blossoming Cherry tree? Would you also stop to pick up a piece of trash littering the ground and make the world a bit more beautiful? Would you visit the sick, disabled, and elderly and give them not only your time but your joy and love as well? Would you sing out loud as you walk down the street and share your delight in being alive in spite of any looks others might give you? Would you hug your children and tell them how much you love them no matter how big they get or old they are? Would you bless this world with your smile, your kind words, your optimism, your enthusiasm, your laughter, your joy, your light, your talents, your energy, your cheerfulness, and your love? Would you do your best moment by moment, all though your day, and all though your life to be the person God meant for you to be? I hope that all your answers were, Yes! I hope God and Heaven always look down on your life with joy and pride. And I hope that everyday you make your angels smile. -<>- . .' \ .' . .' ...'.` ___.-. .' ...'.' _.---' `..' ...'.' __.---' .' ...'.' .--' .' ...'.'. /` .' ...'.' `. / .' ...'.' `. / .' ...'.' `-. / .' ...'.' `. / ` _.-.' ...' `-._____.-' / / .' ...' /` /.'. ...' / .' .`.' \ / .' ...' | \ / /\ .' ...' \ | / / .' ...' / \ | /_/ .' ...' / | | |' `._..' .-------.__________.' .' .'---- .' | | | .' .... | | .' ...'| \ __.' | ___ / \...' \_`------------------._____ ___.---' / .-' | | \__/ `--.__ _.-' /.-' \__/ `------' ' VK >A Writer Bill Walker wildbill6807@yahoo.com I was thinking about this fellow this morning, have thought much about him in the past. When I knew about Mr.Williams he was living the good life. Down around abouts Taney County, God's country Missouri. You know it took six days to make the world. then God rested. The next week God made God's county. The Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas. Anyways Mr.and Mrs Guy Williams had moved to Taney County. Guy wrote a page for the Omaha Sunday paper. He called it, I think a letter from the Wren House. He told about something going on around those parts. It wasn't one of those "Flash this just in, late breaking news reports." It was on the little things like the fishing is good, or we drove over to the next wide spot in the road about 5 miles from here yesterday. Spent the day watching a boy with a new puppy... We had taken a sack lunch. Puppy ate most of it. Things like that would be his weekly story. Guy had a way, a style of writing, you knew it was Guy Williams story. He didn't need to put his name on it. You just knew Guy Williams wrote it. No cotton picken, nit picken, lint picker better miss with it. Those people would have killed it. It's all about that little gold guy they call Oscar. Well, for some reason, the Hollywood news takes me back to a tour that our family did at Universal Studios some years ago. The tram took us through some scenes that would be familiar to veteran moviegoers - like a street in 1920s Chicago (you know, Al Capone style?), an Old West town, a World War II French village. Impressive stuff. It made you want to go in some of those buildings and check it out. Don't bother. When you open the door, there's nothing there. It's only a set. It looks really good on the outside, but it's empty on the inside. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You about "Oscars and Empty Houses." Now, sadly, there are a lot of lives like that. Oh, the outside looks great: smiles, style, success. Just don't open the door. Years ago, I was working with our local high school football team, and they actually won the state championship. And, I had some good relationships with the players, and I took one of their star linemen out to lunch after he had won it all you know, and we're talking about his aspirations for his senior year and he said, "Ron, when I was a junior I had three things I wanted. I wanted to win a championship, I wanted a scholarship, and I wanted lots of friends." I said, "Yeah." And he said, "Man, I got 'em all." I said, "That's awesome!" And then, well it was crazy. I'd never seen him with tears in his eyes, even when he was on the sidelines experiencing a lot of pain in the game. But he had tears in his eyes right in this restaurant. And he said, "Ron, I got everything I wanted." And then he said, "Why am I so empty?" Well, I'll tell you what...that's a question that lurks behind the "set" in a lot of people's hearts, "Why am I so empty?" The woman Jesus met at a well one day; she was one of them. As her story unfolds, we learn that she had had a lot of men in her life. We can guess she was pretty attractive, I guess, and even pursued. Well, she came to that well to draw water. And Jesus said, "Whoever drinks this water will be thirsty again." Think about those words, "Thirsty again." See, that's the problem with every "well" we go to for satisfaction in life - we inevitably end up "thirsty again." For this woman, every relationship - every guy - had been a well that left her empty inside. But then Jesus said, "Every one who drinks of the water I give him will have in him a well springing up to everlasting life" (John 4:13 ). Wow! Well, that day, that woman traded never-lasting for everlasting. Now, that was not an easy offer to make to us. See, He's still making that offer to all of us thirsty people today, because the hole in my heart is so big that only God can fill it. But for Jesus, it meant going to a cross to pay for the sins that separate us from God; that make a wall between us; that caused God to say in the Bible, "Your sins have separated you from your God." That's in Isaiah 59:2 . And so, here is this wall between me and the God whose love I was made for, who knows the reason I'm here, and who has the keys to the heaven that I want to go to someday. But Jesus came and made the offer after a life of never-lasting things. "I can give you that which is everlasting. I want to put the well inside you so you don't have to depend on something outside you ever again." And He's the well. I wonder if there's ever been a time in your life when you've actually opened up your heart and said, "Jesus, I'm Yours?" Now, you may be religious and you may really do a lot of Christian things, and know a lot of Christian teachings. But there's never been that moment when you've made Him yours. Why don't you get that done today? Tell Him that today. Maybe you'll go to our website. I want to invite you to go there because I think you'll find some help in making sure you belong to Him. It's YoursForLife.net. I hope you'll check it out today. Life with Jesus is more than a hollow set. There's life inside. [Copyright Ronald P. Hutchcraft. The doctor had a private practice and his office was nearby. Best of all, he favored "preventive and natural medicine", important to me as I seem to be allergic to half the substances known to mankind. Foods, chemicals, dyes, you name it, I'm allergic. I appreciated he was a small business owner, being one myself. I didn't have insurance, because one month of insurance cost more than I usually spent in three years at the doctor. (Even 25 years ago, policies for one person were extremely expensive.) So I went to see Doctor Tim. He was a great guy, very helpful, very respectful. Afterwards, the gal at the front desk printed out a bill for $80. As I was writing my check, Doctor Tim came up, took the bill, drew a line across it, and wrote in "$60.00". I was floored. "Look, he said, "If we bill an insurance company, it takes an incredible amount of our time, energy and money. Insurance companies don't pay the full amount of the bill, and it takes a long time for us to be paid. People who pay in the moment deserve to pay less, it's still better for us." "Wow, thanks!" I replied. Years later, Doc Tim joined a big medical business in my metro area, in charge of one of their offices. At that big business, still uninsured, I had to pay full price. Then one day the front desk clerk said, "If you're paying today, self-insured, there's 20 percent off your bill." Amazing. Next time I told Doc Tim, "Great news on the 20 percent off!" He said, "Let me tell you a story about that. "I went to meetings for two years, saying that I thought our self-insured customers deserved this. People finally agreed. But the computer guys said they had to change the system to accommodate it. Next meeting, same conversation. "Finally, after two years, I sent a bill out front with the instructions, 'Take 20 percent off, patient is self-pay." The front desk did just that. Soon my phone lit up with the billing department, 'Why did you do this?' "I told them I did it because they'd been talking about it for years, plenty of time to get it done, and I was going to continue. Within *one month*, the 20 percent off was in the computers, system-wide, for all our locations." Needless to say, my jaw dropped. One person, one conviction to do what was right, thousands of patients paying a more "fair" rate, probably still more money than insurance companies paid. Imagine how many people, how many families that would help over the years. It's probably been 10 years. I still don't see the doctor often. But when I do, there's 20 percent off my bill. On my behalf, and the thousands of people who don't know the story: Thank you, Doctor Tim. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: >FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY __ ___ (_ ) / _) ,\_' '_; .-.-. _, .-.-. /| _\ \ \ / /_ |\ ` \/\_| '--,. He is always quick to help out around the house or in the yard to earn a few dollars. One day he decided to buy some goldfish and a small tank with some of his money. He bought five goldfish for $1. About a week later the first goldfish died. It is tragic to lose a pet, no matter what it is. He got his little net and carefully took the small goldfish to the toilet. He was standing there watching it as he flushed the toilet and his mother felt really sad for him. Then James looked at his mom and said, "Well, there goes 20 cents right down the toilet!" -- Tammie Soots (mother of James, Jesse and Jacob) of Reidsville, North Carolina _|_ | / \ //_\\ //(_)\\ |/^\| ,%%%% // \\ ,@@@@@@@, ,%%%%/%%% // \\ ,@@@\@@@@/@@, @@@%%%\%%//%%%// === \\ @@\@@@/@@@@@ @@@@%%%%\%%%%%// =-=-= \\@@@@\@@@@@@;%#####, @@@@%%%\%%/%%// === \\@@@@@@/@@@%%%######, @@@@@%%%%/%%//| |\\@\\//@@%%%%%%#/#### '@@@@@%%\\/%~ | | ~ @|| %\\//%%%#####; @@\\//@|| | __ __ | || %%||%%'###### '@|| || | | | | | || ||##\//#### || || | | -|- | | || ||'#||###' || || |_|__|__|_| || || || || ||_/` ======= `\__||_._|| || jgs__||_/` ======= `\_||___ Terri was planning to attend a special service at another church with their 4-year-old grandson, Jesse.
