BABIES by Dawn Thompson The Camaro was always my dream car. I had started wanting one when I was 15 years old. I just knew that would be my first car. I wasn't sure then how I would get it, but I knew I had to have one. I started saving for it as soon as I started working part time in high school. By the time I was 19, out of school and working my first full-time job, I had enough money saved to buy my dream car, put gas in it and pay for insurance. I poured over the newspaper everyday until an ad caught my eye. A metallic blue, 1969 Chevy Camaro with white interior and the original owner! I called right away, breathless and nervous that someone else might get to it before me. I was in luck. It was still available and I knew it was meant to be mine. I bought it that same day. I can still remember just like a photograph how it felt to be sitting in the driver's seat of my new car. I can see the layout of the dashboard all lit up and I can still smell and remember the feel of the leather interior. I was so pleased with myself -- I had worked hard, saved my money and realized my dream. What a great feeling! I loved that car! I drove it for a few years, going on many road trips with my friends to the river and back, gliding over the highways with the windows down, having a great time, young and carefree. I was the designated driver more times than I could count to parties and concerts. A few years later, I met my husband and married him. My beloved blue Camaro went with me to my new home. It started having some problems here and there and some engine trouble after a few years, but my husband was a good mechanic and he could fix almost anything. He did regular maintenance and repairs, but he eventually had to put in a new engine. That worked out great for awhile, but more costly problems started to crop up with the car and we decided to sell it and buy another. This time I went for a new model, a 1978 Camaro, a beautiful brown color with golden flecks in the paint. I loved that car too! The long, rounded front end, the sleeker shape of the car, the light colored pinstripes down the sides of the hood. It was a great car and I was proud to drive it. My husband and I had a lot of fun with that car too, driving back and forth to the local mountains for ski weekends in winter and lazy summer weekends by the lake. A few years later, after we'd been married for about 5 years we decided the time had come for new cars for both of us. We had been doing pretty well at our respective jobs and we felt we had earned our first brand new cars. Of course I wanted another Camaro! Camaros were becoming more and more sleek and racy looking and I was thrilled to be buying another one. It didn't take long for me to find what I wanted -- a brand spanking new sports car, a glossy white with black interior. It was the most gorgeous car I had ever seen. I drove it off the lot that day and I never felt so special. I would look at my reflection driving by in my white sports car and I was on Cloud Nine. I washed and vacuumed that car every weekend myself and polished and oiled the black interior till it shone. Another love affair with another car! A few years later, another love affair was about to begin. I found out I was pregnant for the first time in 1988. My husband and I couldn't have been happier. At this point I had had my sports car for 2 years. The months went by and I got bigger and bigger and the space between my steering wheel and my growing belly got smaller. It got harder for me to lean into the car and put things in the backseat of my two door Camaro. But I knew as soon as I had the baby my belly would go down and I wouldn't have that issue anymore. We were going to fit the baby into our lives just fine! Eventually my due date was only a few weeks away. I was uncomfortable yet very excited and I couldn't wait to see my baby. I got up late one night when I was feeling especially restless and hot and couldn't sleep. I happened to pass by the kitchen window. I stopped and stood looking out at my sporty car and suddenly a feeling of sheer panic came over me -- that car in the driveway was not going to work with my new baby! How would we get the car seat into it? How was I going to fit all of the baby's things in the car? Stroller, playpen, diaper bags? How had I not thought of this before? It became clear as I stood looking out the window. I knew right then and there that the dream car was going to go. I had a new dream. My baby was coming and I knew I needed to replace my beloved car with a vehicle that would accommodate baby and all of baby's things. For the first time, I had the realization that we were going to fit into the baby's life, rather than us fitting him into ours. The baby was going to change our lives in a good way. I made my first really grown up decision that night standing there in the moonlight. I had to get another, roomier car for our new family. My focus was shifting from my youthful wants and desires. Our family was growing and so was I -- I was growing up. -- Dawn Thompson __________________________________________________ Dawn is frmo California and the mother of 3 boys. I get up, go to work, look forward to days off, holidays and family. Once in a while, I experience things to make me reevaluate my life. There are things in this world that make me realize my little life is meaningless compared to the beauty God has created and many never see or experience. Ginny and I have a beautiful relationship. It brings us great joy. On February 21, 2016, we took a trip with friends to Featherville, Idaho. The beauty of His creations awed us. I share my favorite picture from this trip. I stare at it and my jaw drops. We saw this beautiful sight with our own eyes. Days later, I am still on a high. The first people to live in this area were the Native Americans. They knew how to live off these lands. The first immigrants learned from them. I stared at the mountains last weekend and wondered what those looking for a trail to the west thought. Somehow, they managed to pull their wagons over trails, along rivers and made it to the west coast - The Pacific Ocean - over these mountains. I'm sure they cursed God's work for making their journey hard, but he made them strong. Because of them, I was able to experience this beauty. They made the first trails. God's work is amazing. But I said "Jesus, I can't go To lands across the seas." He answered quickly, "Yes, you can By traveling on your knees." He said, "You pray, I'll meet the need. You call, and I will hear. It's up to you to be concerned For lost souls far and near." And so I did; knelt in prayer, Gave up some hours of ease, And with the Savior by my side, I traveled on my knees. I remember well the polished old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother used to talk to it. Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person -- her name was "Information Please" and there was nothing she did not know. "Information Please" could supply anybody's number and the correct time. My first personal experience with this genie-in-the-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer. The pain was terrible, but there didn't seem to be any reason in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy. I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. "Information Please," I said into the mouthpiece just above my head. A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear. "Information." "I hurt my finger. . ." I wailed into the phone. The tears came readily enough now that I had an audience. "Isn't your mother home?" came the question. "Nobody's home but me." I blubbered "Are you bleeding?" "No," I replied. "I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts." "Can you open your icebox?" she asked. I said I could. "Then chip off a little piece of ice and hold it to your finger," said the voice. After that, I called "Information Please" for everything. I asked her for help with my geography and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math. She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before would eat fruits and nuts. Then, there was the time Petty, our pet canary died. I called "Information Please" and told her the sad story. She listened, then said the usual things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was UN-consoled. I asked her, "Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?" She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, "Paul, always remember that there are other worlds to sing in." Somehow I felt better. Another day I was on the telephone. "Information Please." "Information," said the now familiar voice. "How do you spell fix?" I asked. All this took place in a small town in the Pacific northwest. When I was 9 years old, we moved across the country to Boston. I missed my friend very much. "Information Please" belonged in that old wooden box back home, and somehow never thought of trying the tall, shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations ever really left me. Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy. A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle. I had about half an hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I as doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, "Information, Please." Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well, Information." I hadn't planned this but I heard myself saying, "Could you please tell me how to spell fix?" There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, "I guess your finger must have healed by now." I laughed. "So it's really still you,' I said. "I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time." "I wonder," she said, "if you know how much your calls meant to me." "I never had any children, and I used to look forward to your calls." I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister. "Please do, she said. "Just ask for Sally." Three months later I was back in Seattle. A different voice answered "Information." I asked for Sally. "Are you a friend?" She said. "Yes, a very old friend," I answered. "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, she said. Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago." Before I could hang up she said, "Wait a minute. Did you say your name was Paul?" "Yes." "Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you." The note said, "Tell him I still say there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean." I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant. Never underestimate the impression you may make on others. - Author Unknown -<>- _.--._ \ ** / (<>) . ) ( . )\_.._/ /\ \_.._/( (*_<>_ _<>_*) )/ '' \ \/ / '' \( ' ) ( ' ( ) ) ( (<>) / ** \ /.-..-.\ >God Will Bless You! One good example of how God will bless a person who is fully committed to Him is found in 2 Chronicles 14. Asa, king of Judah, did good and right in the eyes of the Lord as he obeyed Him totally. As God saw that his heart was right, He gave Asa REST; meaning peace and security from wars and without any trouble from neighboring nations. Similarly, God says to you, "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy- laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt 11:28). A famous cartoonist wrote before he took his own life, "I have very few problems. I have many friends. I have traveled all over the world. But I'm tired of inventing devices to fill the 24 hours of the day." Money, prosperity, people, relationships, will not give you real peace. You won't find peace or rest in a place or in anything in this world. You may also be burdened with sin and vices. You cannot have peace until your heart is right with God. When your heart is right, God will give you rest. God will also give you PROSPERITY as He did to Asa (2 Chron. 14:7). God says that when you seek Him, He will supernaturally provide for you (Matt. 6:33). It is His desire to give you an abundant life meaningful and joyful (John 10:10). Of course, having peace and abundance does not mean the absence of problems. God also wants to give you VICTORY (2 Chron. 14:9-12). And the secret to having God's support is to give your heart completely to the Lord. And that means becoming prayerful, in whatever circumstances ? in and out of problems that are big or small. Your prayer life determines how devoted you are to the Lord. If you are devoted to the Lord, you are dependent upon Him; and therefore, your prayer life is vibrant. You will not be prayerful until you realize there is a big war out there, and Satan is alive and active. He comes up with many strategies to discourage and pull you down (Eph 6:10-12). And the fiercest battle is now being waged in your heart. But it is God who gives the victory! The day that you make the decision to give your whole heart to God is the day that He will set you free. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Autumn Of Life!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/life.html Our Valuable Anchor!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/ouranchor.html The Giver And The Gift!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/givergift.html Never Give Up!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/nevergiveup.html The 23rd Psalm!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/psalm23.html Lean On Me!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/leanonme.html Jesus Laughing Art!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/Jesusart.html I Believe In You!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/ibelieveinyou.html Playing With Words!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wordplay.html Akiane - Child Prodigy http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/prodigy.html Butterfly's Story!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/butterflystory.html When God Paints!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/gpaints.html Blind Woman Sees!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/blindsees.html Believe In Your Dreams!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/dream.html Proud Of Our Troops 5!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/troops5.html Attitude Is Everything 4!- http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude4.html Fall And Halloween INDEX! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/halloweenindex.html SHANGRALA Home INDEX Page! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/index.html -<>- Some of Shangrala's Best Pages http://www.amazafamily.com/index.html -<>- Keys to Focused Prayer https://tinyurl.com/y8p46gwx Elvis How great thou art 1972 (very impressive) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlfcvUtUoOM The Gospel Plowboys - What A Day That Will Be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G66ThRLy9js Elvis Presley - It Is No Secret What God Can Do. https://tinyurl.com/ycy4tvsz Kanye West during Trump meeting at White House: president gifted 'a Superman cape' to help do good - Rapper hijacks wild post-lunch photo op to lavish praise on Trump, toy with press https://tinyurl.com/y7wtru2s WhiteHouseNews: https://www.whitehouse.gov/1600daily/ Latest From AFA: http://tinyurl.com/j7lakqw Students For Life https://tinyurl.com/yd5nxmu6 Latest From OperationRescue: http://www.operationrescue.org/ Compilation of President Reagan's Humor from Selected Speeches, 1981-89 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV0TLsUwcm4 -<>- >From Our Friend LouiseAu :) An interesting look at Paris, France in the late 1890’s and 1900 from film taken by the Lumière company. He intended to go back into the Army as a Chaplain. During his school money was tight, to say the least. Of our six children, the oldest was 19 and usually pretty handy with electronics. Dad had told him, "I wouldn't open that DVD player if I were you." Well, he wasn't dad, he did open it: It quit working. A new DVD player wasn't on our list to buy, not with car repairs, utility bills and a mortgage company wanting money. That Christmas didn't seem likely to be very present heavy, but I determined to make it happy. We did cheap things -- parades, community fun days, baking cookies, making candy and homemade gift baskets. Perhaps those things weren't as exciting as loading the tree with gifts, but hopefully my children would learn that family togetherness and traditions are more important than "stuff". One evening after dinner I was standing in the kitchen when the doorbell rang. I went to answer it and opened it to find no one there. Aargh, I hate it when those rotten neighbor kids "ring and run." I was determined to find them this time! In slippers, I headed out to the sidewalk to find the perpetrator and give them a good tongue-lashing. Heading toward the mailbox, I heard someone near the house and called out. "OK, you may think it's funny to ring the doorbell and run, but I don't!" Then I saw movement. Ha! I had them now. Someone moved behind my car, probably thinking they could scoot around the back of the truck and be home free. But I had parked so you couldn't get in between the garage and the garbage cans. I stood at the end of the driveway. "Come out," I said, in my biggest, scary Mom voice. "I can see you there!" A muffled, disguised voice replied, "Hey lady, go check your door!" Huh? I stopped short -- what was up? "I checked, there isn't anything at my door," I replied. "Not at your door, on your door," came the same muffled, somewhat familiar voice from behind the garbage. "Oh." I said, as light dawned. (Oops!) Embarrassed, I sheepishly left the confrontation at the end of the driveway and went to the door. There, right under the porch light was a red envelope taped to the door. I took it inside and the "Christmas Perpetrator" slunk away in the darkness, his identity still a mystery. Inside the envelope was a department store gift card for $250, with a note that said "This card will explode at the checkout if you purchase a DVD-VCR, so don't do it." And to think I imagined that Christmas might be boring. Wherever you are, Christmas Perp, I hope your days are jolly and that you know: at our home we're still grateful to you. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From LaughAndLift: He who kneels before God can stand before anyone. !|| !|||| ,/|||| !|'''| `\ | )\ \ ejm / \ \ \ >In Whom We Trust (by Steve Troxel, God's Daily Word Ministries, http://www.gdwm.org) Hezekiah became the king of Judah soon after the northern tribes of Israel had been taken captive by the Assyrians. Judah was now being threatened by this same Assyrian army. Hezekiah was young and had a strong desire to do right in the eyes of God, but his faith was being greatly tested. Seeing his kingdom would soon be under attack, Hezekiah sought help through an alliance with Egypt. Though this alliance was not wrong in itself, the action was taken out of fear and without consulting God. This action was not only foolish, it was sin! Isaiah 31:1 "Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord." Hezekiah made the same mistake all too common among believers today. We say we believe God's Word is true, but fail to trust Him with the real trials of our life. It was easier for Hezekiah to place his trust in what he could see, than in the Hand of God which he "believed" but remained unseen. When the Assyrian's actually attacked Jerusalem, Hezekiah's faith had greatly increased. As he spoke with his soldiers, Hezekiah demonstrated full confidence in God. 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles." Where do we turn when the enemy threatens? If our faith is restricted to the inside of church walls on Sunday morning, we are definitely ill-prepared. We must learn to walk in the presence of God all through our day so we KNOW God is with us. When we trust Him and love Him with ALL our heart, we begin to walk in victory regardless of the physical outcome of a particular battle. God may certainly direct us to protect ourselves, or avoid conflict; but with our eyes firmly set on Christ, we must understand the real war has already been won. This truth is worth repeating! Regardless of the outcome in each of life's many battles, the end of the Book has already been written...Jesus wins!! When we are under attack, let's put substance to our faith and allow our lives to demonstrate in Whom we trust! -<>- _|_ | / \ //_\\ //(_)\\ |/^\| ,%%%% // \\ ,@@@@@@@, ,%%%%/%%% // \\ ,@@@\@@@@/@@, @@@%%%\%%//%%%// === \\ @@\@@@/@@@@@ @@@@%%%%\%%%%%// =-=-= \\@@@@\@@@@@@;%#####, @@@@%%%\%%/%%// === \\@@@@@@/@@@%%%######, @@@@@%%%%/%%//| |\\@\\//@@%%%%%%#/#### '@@@@@%%\\/%~ | | ~ @|| %\\//%%%#####; @@\\//@|| | __ __ | || %%||%%'###### '@|| || | | | | | || ||##\//#### || || | | -|- | | || ||'#||###' || || |_|__|__|_| || || || || ||_/` ======= `\__||_._|| || jgs__||_/` ======= `\_||___ >"God Knows" (Written by Kelly D. Caron) When you are tired and discouraged from fruitless efforts... God knows how hard you have tried. When you've cried so long and your heart is in anguish... God has counted your tears. If you feel that your life is on hold and time has passed you by... God is waiting with you. When you're lonely and your friends are too busy even for a phone call... God is by your side. When you think you've tried everything and don't know where to turn... God has a solution. When nothing makes sense and you are confused or frustrated... God has the answer. If suddenly your outlook is brighter and you find traces of hope... God has whispered to you. When things are going well and you have much to be thankful for... God has blessed you. When something joyful happens and you are filled with awe... God has smiled upon you. When you have a purpose to fulfill and a dream to follow... God has opened your eyes and called you by name. Remember that wherever you are or whatever you are facing... God knows! SUBSCRIBE INFO Want to receive a Christian inspirational item AND great clean humor in an email to you each day of the week? Mazzella Do you know that it takes more facial muscles to frown than it does to smile? Scientists have also found that it is more draining on the body to be depressed than it is to be happy. Anger and hatred too have been found to use up more energy and vitality than the body can replace while joy and love have actually been found to replenish your energy and vitality. Worry and mistrust are among the greatest destroyers of our zest for living that there are as well. Faith and oneness with God on the other hand tend to produce a calmness that keeps our strength and zest for living high. Pessimism, despair, complaining, and self-pity all make us feel like we are dead inside, but optimism, enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and merriment all make us feel like we could live forever. When all this is taken together then it becomes clear that God designed us to live in love, joy, goodness, and oneness with Him. When we live in and choose these things we come alive with energy and vitality. When we don't we grow closer to death with each passing day. The rewards for choosing love, joy, and oneness with God are immediate and glorious too. Everything inside of us becomes better and everything in our lives becomes better. We become blessed rather than stressed. We smile and feel good in the many wonderful choices we make each day. We grow more and more delighted and enlightened while becoming a shining light to all the souls around us. We make the whole world more beautiful just by being in it. God loves us all so much. He designed us for joy. He designed us for love. He designed us for unending delight and eternal life. He designed us to live in oneness with Him always. Let us always live by our perfect design then. Let us always choose love, joy, life, delight, energy, vitality, and oneness with God. Let us rejoice in these things today, tomorrow, and forever and always share them with everyone everywhere. ========================================================== _|_ | _|_ //_/\ __| ||____ ////////////\ /////////////\\ |^^^^^^^^^^||+| | # # # |||| .... ....". ||||||||||||||||| unknown >-->LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME Our lives are made up of a million different ways.
