>LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING
by Clara Wersterfer
Most teens can't wait to learn to drive.
Not so with me. Driving made me nervous. I didn't get a license
until I turned 24 years old.
As a result, when I first married, we only had one car and car
pooled to work. My husband's hours were different from mine by one
hour. I worked earlier. So he dropped me off and went to the diner to
drink coffee until work time.
Then, in the afternoons, I leisurely walked the three miles to his
work place where I waited in his car, reading a book.
One day while waiting for him, I noticed the most beautiful
Cadillac pull in the lot. It was powder blue and sleek looking. The
kind of car you dream about. I was busily admiring the car, when I
noticed the driver. Honestly, she was probably the prettiest woman I
had ever seen off the movie screen.
She pulled into the spot beside our car and it was all I could do
not to stare. There was a striking resemblance to Liz Taylor. Jet black
hair and alabaster skin. Our eyes made contact and she smiled at me.
Her eyes were as blue as the sea, and teeth like an even row of pearls.
She was wearing a light blue shirt that just matched her car. Peeking
through her long, softly curled hair I could see gold hoop earrings.
They had to be gold to shine like that.
A couple of minutes later, a nice looking man came out the
building, entered her car, leaned over and kissed her and she drove
away.
Sitting there in my jeans, shirt and hair in a pony tail, I wanted
to cry. How could some people have it all?
Maybe I would have forgotten about her, but the following week, I
saw her again. Then it became almost routine to see her about once a
week. She seemed friendly and always waved, flashing a big smile. My
envy lingered long after she drove away.
Many nights when sleep evaded me, I would think about the beautiful
lady. I wondered if she and her husband ate out, and where they dined,
and what she was wearing. I wanted her to get out of the car and let me
see her full length. Did she wear really high heeled shoes and pants,
or a skirt.
I would get my answers in a couple of weeks.
Sitting in our usual parking lot, I was holding my book, watching
her over the top of it. She was waiting and when her husband came to
the car, she called to him. They spoke a few words and he opened the
car door for her to step out. He took her arm and helped her out of the
car. I could see very well as she moved to get out. She was wearing a
skirt.
She haltingly walked around to the passenger side very slowly,
leaning on a walking cane. Sitting sideways in the car, she lifted one
leg with her hands and then the other one. The beautiful lady had a
prosthesis on the left leg and a brace on the right leg.
I couldn't watch them drive away as the tears were blinding me.
For weeks I had envied this woman and her way of life, while I had
been able to walk three miles to our car!
When my husband arrived and found me crying, he immediately asked
what was wrong. Through my tears, I told him about the beautiful lady.
He said he knew her husband and also knew the story. The beautiful lady
and her parents were in a car that either stalled or got caught on the
railroad tracks was hit by a train. Both parents were killed and she
was severely injured. She was only 12 years old.
The railroad made a large settlement with her because the crossing
had no signals. He explained her car was specially built for her needs
as well as the home.
I prayed for forgiveness all the way home. The lady I thought had
everything didn't. I thanked God over and over for my legs, arms and
sight, and for teaching me a lesson early on in life.
When you meet a person who seems to be much better off than you,
don't be fooled. I would not have traded places with the beautiful lady
for anything -- I still had my parents, and the ability to walk, run or
dance through life. Wonderful things money can't buy.

>AMERICAN VALOR - BENGHAZI:
The stunning part of this story is that Tyrone Woods and Glen
Doherty killed 60 of the attacking force. Once the compound was
overrun, the attackers were incensed to discover that just two
men had inflicted so much death and destruction. Just think how
much could have been accomplished if they had the support of
Obama their then Commander-in-Chief.
The news has been full of the attacks on our embassies throughout
the Muslim world, and in particular, the deaths of Ambassador Chris
Stevens and three others in Benghazi, Libya. However, apart from
the shameful amount of disinformation willingly distributed by the
Main Stream Media and the current administration, there's a little
known story of incredible bravery, heroics, and courage that should
be the top story of every news agency across the fruited plain.
So what actually happened at the U.S. embassy in Libya? We are
learning more about this every day. Ambassador Stevens and Foreign
Service officer Sean Smith, along with administrative staff, were
working out of temporary quarters due to the fact that in the spring
of 2011 during the so-called Arab Spring, the United States cut ties
with then president Moammar Gadhafi. Our embassy was looted and
ransacked, causing it to be unusable. It is still in a state of
disrepair. Security for embassies and their personnel is to be
provided by the host nation. Since Libya has gone through a civil
war of sorts in the past 18 months, the current government is very
unstable, and therefore, unreliable.
A well-organized attack by radical Muslims was planned specifically
targeting the temporary U.S. embassy building. The Libyan security
force that was in place to protect our people deserted their post,
or joined the attacking force. Either way, our people were in a
real fix. And it should be noted that Ambassador Stevens had
mentioned on more than one occasion to Hillary Clintonť, then
Secretary of State, that he was quite concerned for his personal
safety and the welfare of his people. It is thought that Ambassador
Stevens was on a s..t list.ť
A short distance from the American compound, two Americans were
sleeping. They were in Libya as independent contractors working an
assignment totally unrelated to our embassy. They also happened to
be former Navy SEALS. When they heard the noise coming from the
attack on our embassy, as you would expect from highly trained
warriors, they ran to the fight. Apparently, they had no weapons,
but seeing the Libyan guards dropping their guns in their haste in
fleeing the scene, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty snatched up
several of these discarded weapons and prepared to defend the
American compound.
Not knowing exactly what was taking place, the two SEALS set up a
defensive perimeter. Unfortunately Ambassador Stevens was already
gravely injured, and Foreign Service officer, Sean Smith, was dead.
However, due to their quick action and suppressive fire, twenty
administrative personnel in the embassy were able to escape to
safety. Eventually, these two courageous men were overwhelmed by
the sheer numbers brought against them, an enemy force numbering
between 100 to 200 attackers which came in two waves. But the
stunning part of the story is that Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty
killed 60 of the attacking force. Once the compound was overrun,
the attackers were incensed to discover that just two men had
inflicted so much death and destruction.
As it became apparent to these selfless heroes, they were definitely
going to lose their lives unless some reinforcements showed up in a
hurry. As we know now, that was not to be. I'm fairly certain they
knew they were going to die in this gun fight, but not before they
took a whole lot of bad guys with them!
Consider these tenets of the Navy SEAL Code:
1) Loyalty to Country, Team and Teammate,
2) Serve with Honor and Integrity On and Off the Battlefield,
3) Ready to Lead, Ready to Follow, Never Quit,
4) Take responsibility for your actions and the actions of your
teammates,
5) Excel as Warriors through Discipline and Innovation,
6) Train for War, Fight to Win, Defeat our Nation's Enemies, and
7) Earn your Trident every day.
Thank you, Tyrone and Glen. To the very last breath, you both lived up
to the SEAL Code. You served all of us well. You were courageous in the
face of certain death.
And Tyrone, even though you never got to hold your newborn son, he
will grow up knowing the character and quality of his father, a man
among men who sacrificed himself defending others.
God bless America!
Dr. Charles R. Roots Senior Pastor; Former Gunnery Sergeant, USMC;
Captain, U. S. Navy Chaplain Corps (Ret)
This should be passed on and on and on.
NO TRUE AMERICAN WOULD OBJECT TO RECEIVING THIS MORE THAN ONCE
...SO PASS IT

In the last analysis, what we are communicates far more eloquently
than anything we say.

...So touching! We need justice for all of them. Thanks Johanna!

>Someone Special
Make a point to do something today for someone special, someone whom
you often take for granted, someone who deserves your full and
complete support -- yourself!
Being good to yourself is not being selfish. It doesn't mean you must
ignore others. Rather, it makes you able to offer more value to the
other people in your world when you take good care of yourself.
Putting yourself down is of no benefit to anyone. Helping yourself to
grow and build will provide you with more to give.
Be positive with yourself. Be kind and generous with yourself. When
was the last time you did something nice for yourself? You deserve
some special attention. Be good to yourself and that goodness will
overflow into the world and the people around you.

The differences between stumbling blocks and stepping stones
is how we us them.
~ Meltzer ~
Often times when we are unfamiliar
with a path, and we attempt to hurry
along, we can stumble over things
along the way. Once we have traveled
the path many times, we learn where
the obstacles are and are able to
avoid them.
So it is with our lives. We learn
daily walking down unfamiliar pathways
where these stumbling blocks are.
Tripping over unsuspected problems that
cause our walk to slow and sometimes stop.
Once we are able to work through
these problems, we can continue on
our way. Now that we have become
familiar with the path we avoid the
problems and are able to quickly walk
the path. The stumbling blocks now become
our stepping stones.
Although it would be much easier to
walk along a path that had no obstacles,
we would learn nothing. We would
simply follow the path up and down no
matter where it led us. The path that
had provided us with obstacles taught
us strength, endurance and courage. It
gave us confidence in our abilities and in
ourselves.
So as you walk the path slowly, and
stumble as you go..as difficult as it may
seem at the time, realize that through
this you are learning, growing and changing
every day.
I wish you a week that is filled with happiness, joy,
blessings that fill your life and peace.
But, above everything else I wish you this
week, I wish you a week that is filled to
overflowing with love.

>TIN CAN SHOES
by Ellie Braun-Haley
She had little. Her shoes were tin cans. They were about four inches
tall and what appeared to be ordinary 14-ounce cans. I imagined that
they were fitted over stubs, for she had no feet and no visible legs.
The cans seemed to act as protectors for the lady as she crawled.
Well, actually she didn't really crawl, because she had no knees. I
watched her as I sat at the sidewalk cafe.
She moved slowly by leaning forward until her gloved hands
were on the pavement, then she hoisted herself forward, dragging her
trunk and the tin can protectors. Then she would lean forward again
and the procedure repeated itself. When she was right across from me,
she halted and sat there gazing around at the people. When she took
off those black leather gloves, I could see she had no hands, just a
trace of a palm, approximately one third the amount of a regular
palm, but no fingers or thumbs.
The day was beautiful and she sat there in the sun, looking
comfortable and composed, observing life around her.
Beggars are not uncommon in this Mexican city but she was
indeed the most needy person I had ever encountered, and yet, she was
not begging. Then it hit me -- how could she possibly beg? She
couldn't hold out her hand in the gesture of the old ladies or full
families sitting along the streets, begging for pesos (Mexican
currency). She couldn't, because she did not have a hand to hold out.
Some beggars set out cups or bowls or cans to receive cash from
thoughtful strangers but she would be unable to hold these and, in
the end, how would she return it to the bag she had
strapped around her neck?
My heart went out to her and I opened my wallet to find money
for her. When I approached her with it, she brought up her right arm
to accept it. As I leaned down, I noticed there was no place to put
the money. I asked her if she would like me to place it in her bag,
and with a lovely smile and soft voice, she said yes and thanked me.
I returned to my seat and continued talking with my husband but found
my thoughts and eyes straying to her. I sat there worrying about her.
The other beggars could do many things to earn money but her options
for earning a living were extremely limited. I began silently urging
the crowd to look down and notice her. "Please, can't you see her?
Please help her!
"
A group of tourists next to us paid their bill and started to
leave. I looked at them and thought, "Please see her and open your
heart and your handbag." But one by one they passed her by, not even
glancing down, yet I knew they had to have seen her. If they looked
down they would have had to acknowledge her existence. Was it easier
for them to pretend she didn't exist? But then the last person in
the group stopped and opened her handbag. I held my breath, hoping
she was looking for some cash. She got something from her bag and
walked over to offer it to the street lady. I saw the sweet smile of
the lady with the tin can shoes as she accepted the charity.
Then I watched as she began her slow journey down the street. Lean
forward, connect with pavement and pull. What a resilient woman! She
moved in an astounding manner. I had been in this city many times
over the years and I recognize many of the beggars. The majority of
them use whining to get the attention of the tourists. But this lady
in the tin can shoes was different. She had an attitude about her.
She was accepting and uncomplaining and I felt I had encountered
someone very special. She didn't ask for anything. In fact, it was as
though she was oblivious to her own plight. She merely sat. She
graced each stranger with a smile. I don't think the lady with the
tin can shoes was there to "take" what we had to offer -- she was
there to give.

>The Secret
One day, one friend asked another, "How is it that you are always so
happy?
You have so much energy, and you never seem to get down."
With her eyes smiling, she said, "I know the Secret!"
"What secret is that?"
To which she replied, "I'll tell you all about it, but you have to
promise to share the Secret with others."
"The Secret is this:
I have learned there is little I can do in my life that will make me
truly happy.
I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs.
When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply
according to His riches.
I have learned most of the time I don't need half of what I think I
do. He has never let me down.
Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy."
The questioner's first thought was, "That's too simple!"
But upon reflecting over her own life she recalled how she thought a
bigger house would make her happy, but it didn't!
She thought a better paying job would make her happy, but it hadn't.
When did she realize her greatest happiness?
Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren, playing games, eating
pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God...
Now you know it too!
We can't depend on people to make us happy.
Only God in His infinite wisdom can do that.
Trust Him! And now I pass the Secret on to you!

MSNBC’S RACHEL MADDOW LOSES HALF-A-MILLION VIEWERS AFTER IMPLOSION OF
COLLUSION CONSPIRACY

“The fact that President Trump was exonerated of charges of collusion
with Russia should be welcome news to any American. However, many
Democrats consider it an inconvenient obstruction,” the Boston Herald
editorial board writes. “No investigation, no report, no evidence, will
ever satisfy the Democrats that Trump is a legitimate president with
whom they must work to accomplish the people’s business.”
https://www.whitehouse.gov/westwingreads/
“The saga that is the Mueller Report is a consequence of what happens
when you begin with a conclusion and then desperately seek evidence you
hope will confirm it,” Cal Thomas writes in The Washington Times. “No
amount of evidence to the contrary will keep [Democrats] from continuing
investigations. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, New
York Democrat, says he intends to ask Attorney General Barr to testify
before his committee. We can expect plenty of grandstanding by
Democratic committee members if that happens.”

The President “tweeted last week that the U.S. will formally recognize
the Golan Heights as part of Israel. The decision is strategically wise
and morally important,” Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) writes in The Wall
Street Journal. “Mr. Trump has been one of the most effective American
leaders in strengthening the country’s relationship with Israel. His
decision to recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israel should prove
yet another major, lasting achievement for his administration.”

Mighty scary stuff!
You won't believe this unless you see the video. This is happening now
in many places to many businesses. Out of control government attacking
the small business owners. See what, if anything, they did wrong.

by the Obama Administration, Eric Holder's Justice Department and the

again!

>A Gift for Two
It was a beautiful day for sightseeing around downtown Portland. We were
a bunch of councilors on our day off, just out for some fun. The weather
was perfect for a picnic, so when lunch time came, we set our sights on
a small park in town. Since we all had different cravings, we decided to
split up, get what each of us wanted, and meet back on the grass in a
few minutes.
When my friend Robby headed for a hot dog stand, I decided to keep
her company. We watched the vendor put together a perfect hot dog, just
the way Robby wanted it. But when she took out her money to pay him, the
man surprised us.
It looks a little on the cool side, he said, so never mind paying
me. This will be my freebie of the day.
We said our thanks, joined our friends in the park, and dug into
our food. But as we talked and ate, I was distracted by a man sitting
alone nearby, looking at us. I could tell that he hadn’t showered for
days. Another homeless person, I thought, like all others you see in
cities. I didn’t pay much more attention than that.
We finished eating and decided to head off for more sightseeing.
But when Robby and I went to the garbage can to throw away my lunch bag,
I heard a strong voice ask, ‘there isn’t any food in that bag, is
there?’
It was the man who had been watching us. I didn’t know what to
say. ‘No, I ate it already’. ‘Oh’, was his only answer, with no shame in
his voice at all. He was obviously hungry, couldn’t bear to see anything
thrown away, and was used to asking this question.
I felt bad for the man, but didn’t know what I could do. That’s
when Robby said, I’ll be right back. Please wait for me a minute, and
ran off. I watched curiously as she went across to the hot dog stand.
Then I realized what she was doing. She bought a hot dog, crossed back
to the trash can, and gave the hungry man the food.
When she came back to us, said simply, I was just passing on the
kindness that someone gave me.
That day I learned how generosity can go farther than the
person you give to. By giving, you teach others how to give also.
*****
To give pleasure to a single heart by a single act is better than a
thousand heads bowing in prayer.

...Aww, a good one! Thanks Linda!

>Three Way Conversation Story Editor:
by John Bundy Joyce Schowalter
Malta
It was Saturday, 2 June 2001, a beautiful sunny day in Malta, and a day
off my duties as a TV show host. Since my wife had things to do, I took
my 7-year-old daughter by the sea for lunch.
On my arrival to the beach area I saw JoJo, a wealthy man in the hotel
business. I'd met JoJo during a Malta charity ball in 1998, since then I
hardly saw him twice. We sat down to chat in an open air cafe while I
watched my daughter enjoy herself on the swings in front of us. Our
conversation varied, from business to entertainment to the economy.
Suddenly our conversation was interrupted by a stranger politely asking
permission to speak to me. Often people want to tell me something about
my controversial TV show, when I am out on the streets.
He asked to speak to me privately, so we stood a bit away from my table.
He said, "I'm James, 35 years old, father of a 7-year-old girl who's
very sick with leukemia. She needs treatment abroad, doctors assure me
that if treated in the UK she has an 80 percent chance of survival. I
don't have the financial means to take her over, can you please help."
Speechless, I stared in the man's eyes that were filled with tears and
asked how I could help. I took his particulars and went to sit back at
the table. JoJo was having a phone conversation, but as soon as he
finished he asked, "What's wrong with you? Your face changed."
I told him. JoJo was sorry for this family and said I had the means
through the media to help him. We headed off to our destinations. All
weekend I thought about James, his daughter and his family. I even
thought of doing a special TV show to raise funds for this sick child.
Monday morning I was at the office after I finished presenting my show,
when my secretary said a man needed to speak to me. It was Mr JoJo
Vassallo.
JoJo walked into my office, which was surprising because JoJo is so busy
with his hotel business I never imagined he had time to come and see me
at the studios.
With cheque book in hand, he said, "Please, call the guy with the sick
child and tell him that all expenses required by him, his wife and his
sick daughter to go to the UK for treatment will be covered by myself."
"John, I've been married for 35 years, I wasn't lucky enough to have a
child, I want to help this child now." I picked up the phone to call
James.
Rebecca is well and living a normal life, so James and Bridgette (her
mum) are the happiest couple on earth. JoJo visits Rebecca. I'm so happy
that there are so many good people on this earth, and to have been
privileged to be a part of this.

>The Picnic
(By Bob Benson)
Do you remember ever being invited to a picnic, a social gathering, like
by a church group or maybe a family reunion? Maybe you were told
something like, "You bring what you want to eat and we'll furnish the
tea."
But you came home and, at the last minute, got ready to pack your lunch,
but all you could find was one dried up piece of bologna and just enough
mustard in the jar so that you got it all over your knuckles when you
tried to get it out . . . and just two stale pieces of bread. Soooooooo,
you made a bologna sandwich and wrapped it in a brown bag and went to
the picnic.
When it came time to eat, you sat at the end of the table and spread out
your sandwich. But the folks right next to you - the lady was a good
cook and had worked all day - had fried chicken and baked beans and
potato salad and home made rolls and sliced tomatoes and pickles and
olives and celery, and, to top it off, two great big homemade chocolate
pies. They spread it all out beside you and there you were . . . with
your bologna sandwich.
But they smiled warmly and said to you "Why don't we put it all
together?" You may have stammered a bit, embarrassed, and made excuses,
but they wouldn't take no for an answer. "Aww come on, there's plenty of
chicken, plenty of pie, plenty of everything. And we just love bologna
sandwiches. Let's just put it all together." So you did . . . and there
you sat, eating like a king, when you came like a pauper.
So I'm thinking . . . thinking of me sharing in the very being of God.
When I think of how little I bring and how much He brings and that He
invites me to share. . . I know I should be shouting to the housetops,
but I'm so filled with awe and wonder that I can hardly be heard. I know
I don't have enough love. . . or faith . . . or grace. . . or mercy. . .
or wisdom. But He has. He has ALL those things in abundance, and He
says, "Let's just put it all together. Everything that I possess is
available to you, and everything that I am and can be to a person I will
be to you."
And when I think about it like that, it really amuses me - to see
somebody running around through life, hanging on to their dumb bag, with
their stale bologna sandwich saying, "Well, God's not gonna get my
sandwich! No sirree, not mine!" Did you ever see anybody like that -
just so needy? Just about half starved to death, hanging on for dear
life to their bologna sandwich?
You see, it's not that He needs your bologna sandwich. Fact is, you need
His everything.

...When I think about God now - I think - Our Great God!
I get overwhelmed with awe at His magnificence! I only have to think
of the image from the timeline of NASA Here:
https://map.gsfc.nasa.gov/media/060915/060915_CMB_Timeline75.jpg
I look at it and remind myself of what the Bible says - 'In the
beginning was God' - just like how they figured the universe
timeline began - God here is all that bright light that existed
before the world began. God caused all the rest to happen. He was
first and He was alone.
I think about how enormous the universe is. I was reading about how
NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has revealed the first known system of
seven Earth-size planets around a single star.
At about 40 light-years (235 trillion miles) from Earth, the system of
planets is relatively close to us, in the constellation Aquarius.
Because they are located outside of our solar system, these planets are
scientifically known as exoplanets.
https://tinyurl.com/znzknuj
You read that right - 235 TRILLION miles from earth. Wowsers!
Look at this image again:
https://map.gsfc.nasa.gov/media/060915/060915_CMB_Timeline75.jpg
How big is God? Yet He wants to have a personal relationship with
each one of us and be our heavenly Father! That is truly awesome.
Makes me feel like the bologna sandwich in the above story!

We have much to be thankful and to Praise God for! Never forget this:
Eph.3
[20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all
that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
HE IS ABLE to do EXCEEDING ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL that you can ask
or even think of to ask him! - According to the power that works
in you - that God in Christ in You power! Never doubt that He can
handle any of your problems!

>-->Laugh
Build for yourself a strong box
Fashion each part with care
When its as strong as your hand can make it
Put all your troubles there.
Hide there all thought of your failures
And each bitter cup that you quaff
Lock all your heartaches within it
Then sit on the lid and laugh.
Tell no one else its contents
Never its secrets tell
When you've dropped in your care and worry
Keep them forever there.
Hide them from sight so completely
That the world will never dream half;
Fasten the strong box securely
Then sit on the lid and laugh.
