I am most thankful to God that these evil people were caught and brought to justice quickly for their horrific deeds. The friends and family of the victims do not have to suffer more through a long drawn out court trial. May God also bless all the people who came to the aide of those affected - many Police officers, SWAT, ATF, FBI, ER and hospital staff all dropped everything to deal with this latest radical Islamic terror attack. An honor guard of soldiers, firemen and policemen surrounded the flag-draped coffin. A bishop, archbishop and cardinal led the requiem mass. A tall, graying priest rose to deliver the eulogy. "I'm here to talk about Cliff. Cliff Thompson," Father John F. X. O'Toole said. "I knew him very well. We went to high school together, played on the same football team. "Cliff was a solid tight end. He was about six feet tall. Weighed about 180 pounds then. He blocked like a steamroller and was a magnet for my passes. He ran like a swift, single-minded deer with cleats. "In our first varsity game, Cliff and I ran onto the field with the offensive team. After Eddie Newsome's two short runs loosened up the defense, I called a pass play. Cliff was my prime receiver. "Cliff blocked a linebacker, then quickly cut in toward the center of the field where my first pass was waiting for him. He caught his first varsity pass and was immediately hit, knocked to the ground and fallen upon. "He heard the loud crack over the cheers of the crowd. As he tried to get to his feet, the pain smacked him down again. "Our trainers rushed out, gave him their supporting shoulders and carried him to the sidelines, where they put his leg in a splint. "Cliff never heard their full diagnosis or their instructions for caring for his broken leg. He just knew the leg required some surgery, pins and a cast. And that he'd be sidelined for most of the year. "However, what he did hear and see, were the cheerleaders, in their letter sweaters, egging on the crowd to cheer their wounded warrior: "'Yea, Cliff! Yea, Thompson! Yea, yea, Cliff Thompson!'" "Cliff was out for about eight weeks but he made the most of his time and his cast. All the big jocks signed it. And so did the giggly girls. The cast and his crutches gave Cliff greater visibility. And Cliff played it for all it was worth. "When he finally returned, Cliff did so well in the final games -- and the championship game -- that he earned a football scholarship. He studied business with the Wolverines at the University of Michigan. I studied God and man with the Jesuits at Boston College. On TV, we saw Cliff run out on the field in the Rose Bowl game. We saw his picture with the offense squad graphics. And we saw his five catches, two for touchdowns, in replays and on all the late night sport shows. He was even interviewed on ESPN's Sportscenter. "But somehow, all that glory never equaled the thrill of hearing those high school cheerleaders praise him by name. He replayed that memory over and over in his mind's ear: 'Yea, Cliff! Yea, Thompson! Yea, yea, Cliff Thompson! "After College, he got a good job in sales management and became 'Sales Manager of the Year'. He graciously accepted his personal trophy and large bonus check and the polite applause. But, again, there were no cheerleaders. "Cliff enlisted in the Army, graduated from Officers Candidate School and fought with valor in Vietnam. The Secretary of the Army pinned the Silver Star on his chest and Cliff returned the salutes of generals. "He told me how honored he felt but, 'you know, it's not like hearing those cheerleaders'. "On September 11, 2001, he arrived very early at New York City's Twin Towers. He was there to celebrate his promotion to Major at a brunch at The Windows on the World Restaurant. Cliff arrived just before that first hijacked airliner hit the first tower. He ran into the smoking, battered building and joined firemen and policemen, helping crowds of people escape that massive smoking toaster. "He didn't get out alive. His body was recognized by his shiny new Major's gold leaves and by the three scars in his leg, where the oddly placed stainless steel pins used to be. "Again, Cliff Thompson was a hero. And again, he didn't hear the recognition he really wanted to hear. "So let this parish priest play cheerleader right now in this most holy sanctuary. Let's hear it now for a great hero and one of God's finest men! "Yea, Cliff", the padre said, throwing his fist into the air. The congregation yelled "Yea, Cliff!". "Yea, Thompson," he continued. And the congregation repeated, "Yea, Thompson!" "Yea, Yea, Cliff Thompson!" Everyone screamed "Yea, Yea, Cliff Thompson." The organist played, the honor guard snapped to attention. Women sobbed and men held back dry tears. -- Ron Gold =========================================================== >-->From Our Friend Jacinto :) : '. _ .' -= (~) =- .' # '. /""""" | (')') C _) \ _| \__/ <___Y> / \ :\\ / | :|\ |___| :|/\ | | :|\ \ \ \ :| \ \_ \ \==L| \\\ ///` || | || | || | || | || | || | || [___]] jgs (____)) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >Thoughts Do Not Undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. I am just like Warren Buffet. You know he is quite rich, has nothing. You ever stop and think about what anyone has? To have something means you can say it is yours, but really what do you have that is yours? You may have a million dollars, You may have many millions of dollars. Sure nice isn't the thought. Some day your going to be just like the one that has nothing, dead. You may be planted in the ground in the best suit of clothes money can buy, in the most highest priced pine box money can buy. Your still dead, and not one thing can you take on the trip. The Glory Train has no baggage car. I had a fellow some years ago, liked his diamond rings he had to wear, He said his wish was to be planted with the rings. Those was his, and he wanted to wear them forever. Those and other things he owned was of great value, that is to him. He forgot one thing. He is dead, he owns nothing. There is no baggage car on the Glory train, or that freight train going to the other place. He may have been planted with all the gold in the world. Gold is not making the trip. Just a trip to the planting ground out east edge of town. You or I may have many things, but do we really have anything? We only have the use of any thing, and that is for a very short time All things you will lose in a given amount of time. Your health may be taken, same as your money. Your great mind which at one time was a store house of much schooling. You may have been a great President even. Today you don't know if the sun came up or not, your mind got up and left. Leaving a body that is there, but that is it. You own nothing. The Bible is very clear on this. You came into this world, with really nothing, so therefore your traveling out same way, nothing. There is no way you was born with diamond rings on your fingers or toes. I don't care if your mother was the most rich woman that ever lived. She too will die some time or other, and she also will make the trip, carrying no baggage. Remember the Glory Train has no baggage car. The freight train going to the other place has no freight cars for baggage either. All the box cars is stuffed with ones that prayed to their dollar bills. Matthew 16:26... For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? All through history we find grave robbers. These people made a living digging in grave yards looking for the gold and other things put on a body. After all the dead has no need of such. One of the most beloved little dogs, in history, his master was the town Constable. part of the patrol was Greyfriars of Edinburgh, Scotland. Little Bobby guarded his masters grave day and night for 14 years. Today Bobby and his master, John Gray is together once again in a Mansion on the hill. -- Bill Walker --- ...Thanks Fran! _..._ _..._ .' _ '. .' _ './ (a) .-'-. / (e) .-'-. Matthew 16:26... For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Jesus Christ said... "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." – John 14: 27 Jesus Christ paid the price for us so we could have peace and not worry about loosing our souls. John 10:10 'The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.' That is why we celebrate Christmas. We rejoice celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! Without Him, our souls were lost. Without Him we were dead in sins and could not even begin to know God Almighty. Without Jesus Christ, we were empty shells filled with darkness. But because Of Jesus Christ being born and giving His life for us and God raising Him from the dead, mankind can be saved from death eternal and live the more than abundant life! 'And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.' – Colossians 3: 15 Praise God for all that He wrought through Jesus Christ our Lord! That is the reason for The Season! So CELEBRATE AND PRAISE GOD! SO I was a bit shocked to see this in the news today... President Obama took a break from saving the icebergs to weigh in on what he believes to be the true meaning of Christmas – loving tiny trees. http://tinyurl.com/pt2lcqz Just another disconnect from the real world by our President and first lady. Proverbs 12:4 Everyone wants quality. Most men, if they have to wear a suit, would love to own a custom tailored outfit. A suit cut to our own body shape would feel wonderful. Unfortunately, most of us can't afford such a garment. Most of us would love to drive a $50,000 SUV or luxury car or sports machine. The feel of fine tooled leather; the power available at the touch of foot to pedal; the exhilaration of such precision machinery must be "out of this world." Unfortunately, most of us drive our old clunkers until they are beyond repair and then buy someone else's cast-off and do it all again. Most women would love to have the finest jewelry, perhaps a $20,000 diamond ring to go with her luxurious furs and designer clothing. Unfortunately, most of them live on a Wal-Mart budget. All of life is a trade-off. We desire the best. We settle for the best our money can buy. Solomon tells his son that the best wife in the world is a treasure worth clinging to. Whatever a man does, wherever he goes, his wife makes him look good. It may not be that she is the most beautiful woman, physically, in the room. It is that she is smooth and secure. Her role is to support her husband. She makes sure he looks good in his clothing. She sees to it that he knows what is happening (after all, we all know that most men are clueless!) and what is soon to happen. She makes her home a palace to be enjoyed by her family. She is frugal in her extravagance. (See finds a way to furnish her home and clothe her family with products that look like they cost a million, and she does it on pennies.) Yes, we all desire the best our money can buy, and we are proud of what we own. God is the same way. He has chosen us because He sees in us the excellence He created in us. He sees beyond the zits and flaws and sins. He sees deep into the soul, and He sees not the filth, but the perfection He created and will recreate. God does not make mistakes. Never has. Never will. His desire is that we become His showpiece. Oh, He knows our limitations, he did create us. He knows our flaws. He wept over each one as we inflicted them upon ourselves. But He knows what is yet to come. In many ways He is like a diamond cutter. What I see as a pretty rock, He sees as a brilliant cut diamond. What I see as a flaw, He sees as raw material ready for the Craftsman. What I see as failure, He sees as an opportunity to witness His power and love and grace and mercy. To God, we are like an "excellent wife." He desires for us to make Him "proud." And, what's more, He gives us the tools, the opportunities, and the experiences to do just that. Are you allowing Him to make you into a "crown jewel"? Amen and Amen. '-.,___,.-' >Thanks for your time Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days. "Jack, did you hear me?" "Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said... "Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him. "I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said. "You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said. "He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important. Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said. As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time. Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture. Jack stopped suddenly... "What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked. "The box is gone," he said "What box?" Mom asked. "There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was the thing I value most,'" Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it. "Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom." It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox: "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read. Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside. "Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. Its the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser." "The thing he valued most was.. my time" Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked. "I need some time to spend with a friend," he said. "Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!" ~~~ Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true. 1. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.. 2. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you. 3. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. 4. You mean the world to someone. 5. If not for you, someone may not be living. 6. You are special and unique. 7. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better. 8. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it. 9. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world. 10. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you. 11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. 12. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you'll both be happy. 13. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great. Send this letter to all the people you care about, if you do so, you will certainly brighten someone's day and might change their perspective on life.. for the better. My father had just retired from the Air Force, and my family moved from Zweibrucken, Germany, to South Carolina. I hadn't seen my parents since they bought their new house and moved in, so I was anxious to go see them. I left Alexandria, Virginia, early in the morning, in my 1986 Ford Escort. Somehow I knew my car might have a problem on the trip down south; the odometer had 140,000 miles on it. Near Kenly, North Carolina, my car stopped dead in its tracks. Two young men stopped and offered me a ride, but I asked them to call the police for me instead. Then another car approached, and a kind-looking, older man stepped out. He thought I was his son's girlfriend, whom I resembled. He said he also had a funny feeling -- as though he was pulled into the opposite direction to see who was stranded by the side of the road. But even once he saw that I was not his son's girlfriend, he still offered to help. The man identified himself as a Baptist minister. Just as I knew something might go wrong with my car, somehow I knew I could trust him. He arranged for a tow truck to take my car to the closest garage, then asked me to accompany him to a hospital, where he was due to pray for some patients. He then took me home to put me up for the night with his family. His wife and son were surprised to have a visitor, but were equally hospitable. The son did a double take when he saw me; I guess I really looked a lot like his girlfriend. The next day, the minister drove me to Raleigh airport, the nearest place with a car rental agency, to get a car to finish my trip. My car would be repaired while I visited my parents. The next day, the minister drove me to the Raleigh airport car rental agency, so I could finish driving home. My car would be repaired while I visited my parents. When I returned to Raleigh, the minister had arranged to meet me again. He drove with me to return the rental car, then to the garage to pick up my car. When all this happened, I didn't have much money or experience. I don't know what I would have done if he had not come along. My dad made a contribution to his parish as thanks, but this man's kindness was beyond price. Today, my husband and I try to pay this kindness forward. We both help people who are stranded by the side of the road, and at other times, whenever we can. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From LaughAndLift: ( . ) ) ( ) . ' . ' . ' . He built a statue of gold about 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide and ordered that everyone must fall down and worship the statue whenever the royal music began to play. A report was delivered to the King that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were refusing to worship the golden image. The King summoned these three young Jewish men and gave them one more chance to conform to his rules for worship: "If you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?" (Daniel 3:15) These three followers of Almighty God were faced with an ultimatum; "Compromise your beliefs, or die!" They could have found a way to rationalize this false worship. They could have found a variety of excuses for compromise. But rather than fall to the pressures of their surrounding environment, the three decided to live a life of unwavering faith and unashamed devotion to the One True God. Daniel 3:17-18 "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if He does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." Very few will ever face a "Compromise or die!" ultimatum. But almost everyone will be tempted to push aside convictions and bow to such "golden images" as financial gain, physical pleasure, personal recognition, or the fear of conflict. We are also constantly tempted to "bow down" with the "entertainment" we watch, listen to, or read. Standing firm requires a determined effort to remain solidly on God's path. Hearing God's direction for our life can sometimes be difficult; but one truth remains - God never asks us to compromise His standard in order to follow His path...NEVER! We can therefore be assured that ANY compromise represents a deviation from His plan. Let's strengthen the convictions God has already placed on our heart. We need not be ashamed of, nor fear, what we know is true; and we need never doubt the perfection of His path. Let's live a life of consistent belief and trust such that what we believe is directly reflected in the way we live. Let's take a stand and live a God-honoring life...without compromise.
