God sanctifies each day. He conducts holy business at all hours and in all places. He uncommons the common by turning kitchen sinks into shrines, cafes into convents, and nine-to-five workdays into spiritual adventures. Workdays? Yes, workdays. He ordained your work as something good. Before he gave Adam a wife or a child, even before he gave Adam britches, God gave Adam a job. "Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it" (Gen. 2:15 NASB). Innocence, not indolence, characterized the first family. God views work worthy of its own engraved commandment: "You shall work six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest" (Exod. 34:21 NASB). We like the second half of that verse. But emphasis on the day of rest might cause us to miss the command to work: "You shall work six days." Whether you work at home or in the marketplace, your work matters to God. And your work matters to society. We need you! Cities need plumbers. Nations need soldiers. Stoplights break. Bones break. We need people to repair the first and set the second. Someone has to raise kids, raise cane, and manage the kids who raise Cain. Whether you log on or lace up for the day, you imitate God. God himself worked for the first six days of creation. Jesus said, "My Father never stops working, and so I keep working, too" (John 5:17 NCV). Your career consumes half of your lifetime. Shouldn't it broadcast God? Don't those forty to sixty hours a week belong to Him as well? The Bible never promotes workaholism or an addiction to employment as pain medication. But God unilaterally calls all the physically able to till the gardens he gives. God honors work. So honor God in your work. "There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good" (Eccles. 2:24 NASB). Here is the big idea: Use your uniqueness (what you do) to make a big deal out of God (why you do it) every day of your life (where you do it). At the convergence of all three, you'll find the cure for the common life: your sweet spot. Max Lucado From: Cure for the Common Life: Living in Your Sweet Spot =========================================================== >-->From Daily Encounter: !|| !|||| ,/|||| !|'''| `\ | )\ \ ejm / \ \ \ >The Power of Praying for Others “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him."1 I am not sure how many of you are familiar with Peter’s experience in Acts 12:1-19, but if you haven’t read it before, I encourage you to do so because it is so powerful. In short, it relates how Peter had been imprisoned by king Herod following James’ death. Herod took extra measures to ensure that Peter would not escape. The night before Peter’s trial, he was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and walked him straight out of prison! In verse 5, we see that the church had been earnestly praying to God for him during this time. Later Peter shows up at their door and they are in complete shock! There was no denying that God had heard their prayers and answered. God had brought Peter safely out of prison. I am sure we all know someone who is going through a difficult time, perhaps so difficult that it is too much for them to handle. Perhaps they are so weak that they are finding it hard to pray. In times like this, we (the church) are called to “carry each other’s burdens" 2 and intercede for them. Today’s verse states that the church was “earnestly praying to God for him". That is what we are called to do for those who are suffering around us. Perhaps you find yourself in a position that is too much for you to handle alone. Call on others (the church) to come alongside you and lift you up in prayer. None of us are perfect, and we all need the support of others at one time or another. Never feel like you must carry your burdens alone. The same God that sent His angel to rescue Peter from prison, is the same God who will act on our behalf, regardless of the situations we may be facing. Our all-powerful Heavenly Father loves us and is ready to listen. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call unto me and I will answer you…"Let us pray earnestly to God for those things on our heart. If we are called onto pray for others, let us do it fervently. There is power in prayer. When we come humbly to God in prayer, amazing things can happen. Suggested prayer: “Dear God, thank you that I do not have to face my trials alone. Allow me to always seek you first in prayer and surround myself with others who will lift me up when I am weakened by the circumstances around me. And when I am called on to pray for others, I ask that you allow me to do so humbly and wholeheartedly, realizing the great privilege it is to share each other’s burdens. You never change and are our almighty God who can and will do great things when we cry out to you in prayer. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen." 1. The devastated Hemingway couldn't conceive of redoing his work. He could think only of the months he'd devoted to his arduous writing--and for nothing, he was now convinced. "But when he lamented his loss to the poet Ezra Pound, Pound called it a stroke of luck. Pound assured Hemingway that when he rewrote the stories, he would forget the weak parts; only the best material would reappear. Instead of framing the event in disappointment, Pound cast it in the light of opportunity. Hemingway did rewrite the stories--and the rest, as they say, is history. He became one of the major figures in American literature."2 For those who daily commit and trust their life to Christ, our disappointments, as another has said, turn out to be God's appointments in that he wants to use every adverse circumstance to help us grow and become more mature and better persons. God can take even the hardest of circumstances in our lives and use them for our good. It is not always easy to understand in the moment, but we can trust that He loves us and holds our future in His hands. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, I commit and trust my life and way to You and ask that You will use every disappointment in my life as Your appointment. Turn each negative experience into a blessing, and use each one to make something beautiful out of my life. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus Christ's name, amen." 1. Romans 8:28 (NIV). 2. Many of us think that asking others to pray for us is somehow being too needy or embarrassing. Actually, it may be that way for those who always seem to be seeking attention by seemingly 'begging' others for prayers. You know when you are being honest with God and others and feel compelled by God to ask others for a prayer. Jesus Christ taught us this... Matt.18: [19] Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. [20] For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. There is no shame in being a part of a prayer rally or simply asking others for prayers. The second teaching here brings to mind those that for some reason think that their troubles are caused by God tempting, trying and causing them tribulations. However, they got the wrong God in mind - they are thinking of the little g - god of this world Satan. He is the one who tempts, tries and causes us tribulations. James 1: 13 -- Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: See this great teaching for more... The Love Of Money And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. – Galatians 6: 9 This is another Scripture that I have learned by heart. We're not to get tired when we do God's Word. Because when the time is right, we shall overcome if we faint not in our minds. You see the battlefield is between the ears. When we get discouraged or disgusted, it is from the god of this world. We need to have the energy of our conviction to stand on God's Word, no matter how much tribulation we receive. If we do so, we will reap - we will conquer. That's what the Word says and that's what the Word means. http://www.absolutebiblestudy.com/Word/The_Love_Of_Money.htm Here is another teaching that should help you to understand what is happening in today's world. John Adams SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; JUDGE; DIPLOMAT; ONE OF TWO SIGNERS OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS; SECOND PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.1 The Holy Ghost carries on the whole Christian system in this earth. Not a baptism, not a marriage, not a sacrament can be administered but by the Holy Ghost. . . . There is no authority, civil or religious – there can be no legitimate government but what is administered by this Holy Ghost. There can be no salvation without it. All without it is rebellion and perdition, or in more orthodox words damnation.2 Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell.3 The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity.4 Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia – what a Paradise would this region be!5 I have examined all religions, and the result is that the Bible is the best book in the world.6 John Quincy Adams SIXTH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; DIPLOMAT; SECRETARY OF STATE; U. S. SENATOR; U. S. REPRESENTATIVE; “OLD MAN ELOQUENT”; “HELL-HOUND OF ABOLITION” My hopes of a future life are all founded upon the Gospel of Christ and I cannot cavil or quibble away [evade or object to]. . . . the whole tenor of His conduct by which He sometimes positively asserted and at others countenances [permits] His disciples in asserting that He was God.7 The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the Divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made “bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God” [Isaiah 52:10].8 In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.9 Samuel Adams SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; “FATHER OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION”; RATIFIER OF THE U. S. CONSTITUTION; GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS I . . . Let us secure His favor and He will lead us through the journey of this life and at length receive us to a better.11 I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world . . . that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.12 He also called on the State of Massachusetts to pray that . . . * the peaceful and glorious reign of our Divine Redeemer may be known and enjoyed throughout the whole family of mankind.13 * we may with one heart and voice humbly implore His gracious and free pardon through Jesus Christ, supplicating His Divine aid . . . Suddenly one of the elephants veered from the line and marched into a church. [In Milan, church doors are large, and in the summer are often wide open.] This visitor wandered up the center aisle, trumpeted a bit, swung her trunk around and headed back to the parade. Unfortunately, many humans seem to imitate this pious pachyderm. On a Sunday morning we lurch into church, make a few noises, observe the congregation, then step out to resume our place in the parade. The great drama of worship is played out, but it is lost on us. These changes need to be completed in order that I may fulfill My promises to you to grant you peace, joy and happiness in this life. I apologize for any inconvenience, but after all that I am doing, this seems very little to ask of you. Please, follow these 10 guidelines: 1. QUIT WORRYING: Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way? Just Ask me, I will take care of it for you. 2. PUT IT ON THE LIST: Something needs done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all ... God. I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize. 3. TRUST ME: Once you've given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on My list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask. 4. LEAVE IT ALONE: Don't wake up one morning and say, "Well, I'm feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here." Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It's simple You gave Me your burdens and I'm taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my peace. Don't you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job. 5. TALK TO ME: I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I'm in control. But there's one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don't forget to talk to Me - OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend. 6. HAVE FAITH: I see a lot of things from up here that you can't see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I'm doing. Trust Me; you wouldn't want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be? 7. SHARE: You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who haven't heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith with those who have none. 8. BE PATIENT: I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush. 9. BE KIND: Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences. 10. LOVE YOURSELF: As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by me for one reason only -- to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors (close ones). But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to me. Don't ever forget...... Touch someone with your love. Rather than focus upon the thorns of life, smell the roses and count your blessings -<>- |\ |\ |\ |\ || .---. || .---. || .---. || .---. ||/_____\ ||/_____\ ||/_____\ ||/_____\ ||( '.' ) ||( '.' ) ||( '.' ) ||( '.' ) || \_-_/_ || \_-_/_ || \_-_/_ || \_-_/_ :-"`'V'//-. :-"`'V'//-. :-"`'V'//-. :-"`'V'//-. / , |// , `\ / , |// , `\ / , |// , `\ / , |// , `\ / /|Ll //Ll|| | / /|Ll //Ll|| | / /|Ll //Ll|| | / /|Ll //Ll|| | /_/||__// || | /_/||__// || | /_/||__// || | /_/||__// || | \ \/---|[]==|| | \ \/---|[]==|| | \ \/---|[]==|| | \ \/---|[]==|| | \/\__/ | \| | \/\__/ | \| | \/\__/ | \| | \/\__/ | \| | /\|_ | Ll_\ | /|/_ | Ll_\ | /|/_ | Ll_\ | /|/_ | Ll_\ | `--|`^"""^`||_| `--|`^"""^`||_| `--|`^"""^`||_| `--|`^"""^`||_| | | ||/ | | ||/ | | ||/ | | ||/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | L___l___J L___l___J L___l___J L___l___J |_ | _| |_ | _| |_ | _| |_ | _| jgs (___|___) (___|___) (___|___) (___|___) ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ >The Shadow Warriors War is hell. His war was different. There were no parades when he came home. Well this is my war. Afghanistan, a miserable hot and dusty place. How the heck did I get here? Our chopper got shot down, what two days ago? I had to leave the area as the Taliban was crawling over the area looking to execute the living. As I was the sole survivor, I fit that description quite well. I knew my guys back at the base would be looking for me. But how far from the crash site had I strayed? I took five canteens with me as I know water in this land is precious as gold. I had enough energy bars and ammo to last my assault rifle for a good time. I had to assume anyone I came into contact with was not friendly. I was probably a good 240 miles from Kandahar. Night started to settle in. The tribesman seemed to know they were searching for one man. How did they know? They must have inventoried the equipment and found the canteens did not add up. Oh well, I will do what I do best, survive. Crack! A broken stick. A shadow passed by me, but no person. It was a GI. It appeared to be the Captain, but he was dead. Just then a Taliban jumped from a rock and aimed his rifle at me, the shadow figure slit his throat then dropped him to the ground. The shadow filtered into the night. I looked around me and I was surrounded by shadow warriors. My platoon was here. They were all dead! I could not see their eyes, just shadows. The captain waved his arm to me to follow. I followed. We headed out towards the valley where the village we were supposed to attacked laid. We, the shadow warriors and I arrived at the edge of the village. The Taliban had about 100 of their men there. They were gearing up for something. They had rpgs, machine guns, and heavy weapons. The next thing I know the shadow warriors entered the village and .... I can barely describe what happened. The screams were from another place another existence. I saw people shooting, running and the shadows would envelope them and they would die. The battle or rather the slaughter lasted but a short time. A few of the Taliban were left alive, but they were babbling idiots, insane. The shadow warriors came back to me. I was shaking. They waved me onward. I followed this band of banshees. We marched through the night. We wound up at the crash scene of the chopper. There the shadows formed a circle around me. I noticed a ring of dogtags around me. Daylight started to break and also the whoop whoop whoop sound of other choppers coming. I saw about four more choopers. Help had arrived, or rather more help. I looked at my shadow warriors. They lifted their hands in a salute. I returned it and held it. Then they just faded...away. I guess they had one more mission to do. They did not want to leave their man behind. I picked up their dogtags and waited for the choppers to land. I could not tell the story. Nobody would believe me. I would say we did the mission, then when we left we were shot down. Who would believe the existence of the Shadow Warriors? Amy Baker, author of "Slow Dancing at Death's Door" stresses the need for "getting angry and getting over it." You can do this, in part, by learning how to separate the past from the present when dealing with, for example, a strained parent-child relationship. Practice forgiveness. Treat your feelings-for yourself and the person for whom you are caring-with compassion. "As hard as it is to do, realize that most people are only doing the best they can," says Baker. "Their meanness or lack of love for you probably wasn't malicious. They didn't set out to hurt you." Letting go can be transformative. Ask for help from a third party, especially if you're feeling overwhelmed. Cole suggests seeking aid and advice from another relative, a friend, an elder care professional, or a clergy person or spiritual counselor. Turn it over to God's grace, suggests Baker. Sometimes the situation is too painful for you to handle on your own. Try surrendering your burden to a higher power through prayer or spiritual practice. ----- _____ ,\_+_/, '(("""))' '(|o,o|)' '; = ;' _) (_ /' \_/ '\ /\(_ : _)/\ /||/)___( \ \ \|_)' \/ / | (_/ | | | | |_______| \ | / Sher^: | : ; | ; >Taking Care of the Caregiver Tune-up tactics Tend to basic needs. It's difficult to care for a person in need if you yourself are run-down. Make sure to address your immediate needs for adequate rest and sound nutrition. Schedule in a few brief but potent breaks into your day. A short walk around the block helps or a catnap can do wonders to refresh you. If you can't physically get away, you can literally take a "breather." Blow off steam. Do something active each day: walking, running, biking, swimming--anything that gets you moving. Take time to get outside and out into the world--even if it's just taking a walk down the street and back-and really pay attention to your surroundings. A regular mind/body practice can help you fight stress before it starts. Yoga, Pilates, qigong, and other mindful disciplines create greater flexibility and strength, as well as a relaxed body and mind. Again, ask for help! Being a caregiver is an extremely demanding task. Rather than becoming overwhelmed and ineffective, ask someone to share the load before it becomes unbearable. It may be as simple as having a friend pick something up for you at the grocery. Nurture yourself. Get your nails done, meet a friend for coffee. Take time to do something for you. -<>- (() ()) (() ()) (() ()) (() ()) (() .+. _.-//_\\-._ .'.-' XII '-.'. /`.'* *'.`\ / /* / *\ \ | ; _/ ; | | |IX (_) III| | | ; \ ; | \ \* \ */ / \ '.* \ *.'./ jgs '._'-.__VI_.-'_.' '-.,___,.-' >Thanks For Your Time It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him. Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days. "Jack, did you hear me?" "Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said. "Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over on 'his side of the fence,' as he put it," Mom told him. "I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said. "You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said. "He's the one who taught me carpentry," Jack said. "I wouldn't be in the business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important.... Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," he added. As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time. Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture ... Jack stopped suddenly. "What's wrong, Jack?" his mom asked. "The box is gone," he said. "What box?" "There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack answered. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it. "Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom." It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read. Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small package was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser," it read. Jack took the package out to his car and ripped it open. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside. "Upon my death, please forward this package and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filled his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the gold box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack, thanks for our time! Harold Belser." "The thing he valued most ... was ... my time," Jack thought. Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked. "I need some time to spend with my son," Jack said. "Oh, by the way, Janet, ... thanks for your time!" -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Beautiful Exotic Birds! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/exoticbirds.html Just Have Faith http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/faith.html Attitude Is Everything http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude.html Believe In Your Dreams http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/poems/dream.html Rules For Raising Children http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/rulesforchildren.html Human Chameleon http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/chameleon.html Horse Costumes http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/horsecostumes.html Casa Batllo - House Of Bones http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/hbones.html Feather Painting 2 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/feather2.html Leaf Art Paintings http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/art.html Extreme Poodle Makeover http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poodlemakeover.html Until We Write Again! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/write.html God's Water Paintings! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/water.html My Precious Child! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/mychild.html Christ's Life! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/jesuslife.html Moses And The Red Sea http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/mosesredsea.html Tricks For Treats 3! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/tricksfortreats3.html Never Give Up! http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/nevergiveup.html Fall And Halloween INDEX! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/halloweenindex.html -<>- He Who Sits on The White Horse https://www.truthortradition.com/articles/he-who-sits-on-the-white-horse Good Read - What's a Christian to Do? http://thebullelephant.com/whats-a-christian-to-do-with-trump/ NY Gov. By Bob Perks I am a tired American. I'm tired of all the lies. I am tired of being bombarded by messages meant to confuse, misguide and lead me where you want me to go. Here's the truth. No one party has all the answers. Not the Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party, Coffee Party (yes there is one) or any other. You see us as sheep and you the sheep herders call us, not by name, you don't know our names. But by demographics, group, age, economic status and race. You take aim at the vulnerable. You tell the elderly that the other party will steal your security, make them stand in lines for healthcare. The elderly cry "fixed income" and you promise, "We'll fix it." The only thing you need to fix are the broken promises you've all made before. You create fear-filled television messages, with ominous looking images of angry people plucked from unemployment lines and senior centers, while you recite facts twisted to fit your view. In truth they are snippets of reality, incomplete sound bites and images of your opponent looking their worst. You wave the flag and gather your family for a portrait, shake hands with our military, nod your head in agreement with union members, stand near a tractor with a farmer whose very livelihood is being plowed under by over regulation and huge corporate control and we become numb to the relentless pounding of the distant drums of doom. It has been called the "dumbing down of America." You talk about securing our borders, strengthening homeland security and the possibility of the next terrorist attack. All of this while you fight on the floor of congress, in the halls of the state legislature and the corrupt chambers of local government over nothing more than the betterment, not of the people you serve, but your party's agenda and control. No one individual can solve all of America's problems. Not the President of the United States, majority or minority leaders, political celebrities or on air personalities. We all must work together or together we fail. America was established as "We the People." That means that we control this country. That is, my friend, a huge responsibility. It should not be taken lightly. How do we do it? By vote. That vote is the most powerful weapon on earth and it is placed in the hands of every American. It can be used as a weapon to destroy or a tool to build up. Don't vote against something, vote for what you know to be the truth. The difference is a vote is like buck shot. When you try to single out one thing you hit it all, taking down the good with the bad. Before you vote, research, read, talk it over with friends, family, check the facts, recheck the facts and yes, pray. We can still pray in America. Voting demands participation. Being an American is more than holding a birth certificate as proof. It is holding on when things get tough, holding out when others give in, and holding to this simple truth, that "All are created equal." Whether you pull a lever, tap a video screen, punch a hole, check a box,or sign your name to an absentee ballot, you are declaring, "I've done my job. I've taken responsibility, I've made an educated decision based on my own research, I've voiced my opinion and I declare myself one of the proud members of "We the people of the United States of America." Don't be led by the sheep herders any more. Vote smart for the good of all, not the betterment of a few. A twisted truth is still a lie. "I wish you enough!" Bob Perks ========================================================== >-->From LaughAndLift: "When God was ready to judge the world with a flood, He came to Noah. When He desired to build a nation for Himself, He turned to Abraham. When He heard His children groaning under Egyptian bondage, He appeared in a burning bush to Moses. They were three of the most ordinary of men. But God had work to do, and He knew just who to do it with. God has always given His people assignments that are too big for them to handle alone, so that a watching world can see - not what we can do - but what God can do." - Henry Blackaby /`. Moody: A Shoe Salesman (By Os Hillman) "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" Matthew 19:26 Dwight L. Moody was a poorly educated, unordained, shoe salesman who felt God's call to preach the gospel. Early one morning he and some friends gathered in a hay field for a season of prayer, confession, and consecration. His friend Henry Varley said, "The world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him." Moody was deeply moved by these words. He later went to a meeting where Charles Spurgeon was speaking. In that meeting Moody recalled the words spoken by his friend, "The world has yet to see ... with and for and through and in ... a man!" Varley meant any man! Varley didn't say he had to be educated, or brilliant, or anything else. Just a man! Well, by the Holy Spirit in him, he'd be one of those men. Then suddenly, in that high gallery, he saw something he'd never realized before. It was not Mr. Spurgeon, after all, who was doing that work; it was God. And if God could use Mr. Spurgeon, why should He not use the rest of us, and why should we not all just lay ourselves at the Master's feet and say to Him, "Send me! Use me!"? D. L. Moody was an ordinary man who sought to be fully and wholly committed to Christ. God did extraordinary things through this ordinary man. Moody became one of the great evangelists of modern times. He founded a Bible college, Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, which sends out men and women trained in service for God. Are you an ordinary man or woman in whom God wants to do extraordinary things? God desires that for every child of His. Ask God to do extraordinary things in your life. Begin today to trust Him to accomplish great things for His Kingdom through you. -<>- >Lord, let there be a revival, and let it begin with ME! _ _|_|_ ,|_| |_|_ || | | |_| || | | | | || | | | | _|| | | | | ||)\ ^ ^ ^ | || | | || | | || | | \\ | \\ / ejm )\ ( / \ \ / \ \ \ \ >Prayer For The United States (By Judith/Pray for our Nation) Heavenly Father, We the people of the United States of America come together in prayer for our nation. You have been outspoken about the need for citizens to get involved in the political process. Explain why that is important and how I can go about doing it. A. You can start by participating in the electoral process. I think it is a disgrace that half the Christians in America aren't even registered to vote, and of those who are, only half go to the polls. America is not ruled by a dictatorship; it is blessed to have a representative form of government that Abraham Lincoln described as being "of the people, by the people, and for the people." The Constitution declares that you and I are the government. When we withhold our influence and participation, we yield by default to those who promote immoral and destructive policies. We owe it to our children and to future generations to defend the principles in which we believe - the glorious freedom bought with the blood of so many brave young men and women. Shame on us for failing to do our duty to God and country. It is unconscionable that so many Christians today have concluded that it is somehow immoral to "get political." I don't believe the Founding Fathers intended to exclude people of faith from the process. There is not a scrap of evidence to indicate such. There are many ways to participate in public policy besides voting. Letters and phone calls to our local officials, congressmen and senators do make a difference. They certainly need to hear from us. When you write or call, be brief, and restrict each letter to one subject or one piece of legislation. This makes it easier for the person you're writing to to respond and for his staff to organize correspondence. Remember that elected officials receive thousands of letters of complaint and very few positive responses. If a public official says or does something that you like, respond with a quick note of appreciation, and by all means, remember that democracy works best when the people make their wants and wishes known.
