The act of giving, no matter how small, opens our hearts and spreads joy to the giver of the gift as well as the recipient. Random Acts of Kindness are the perfect springboard to leap into generosity. Random Acts of Kindness are good deeds done for strangers who could use a little blessing. We all have stress in our lives. We all have bad days. There's nothing like a Random Act of Kindness to pull a person out of a lousy mood. In our long ago Chicago days, my wife and I used to make sure we had extra change with us when we traveled the tollway system. We would pull up to the booth and give the attendant our toll, plus pay the toll for the car behind us. The reactions were priceless. Some people sped away, unable to understand they had been the recipients of a Random Act of Kindness. But most were appreciative. Some even made the effort to catch up to us and thank us. Another target for Random Acts is Kindness is the drive-thru window. If you go through a fast food joint for breakfast and have an extra four dollars, pay for the meal of the person behind you. Imagine their surprise and delight when they pull up to the window to pay for their food, only to be told, "The guy in front of you already paid for it." Random Acts of Kindness can be big or small. If you would rather be more generous than a sandwich or toll booth change, perhaps you can buy groceries for a needy family. If you can put the groceries on their front porch without them knowing (and without getting shot, or bit by a dog), go for it. What's the worst thing that could happen? If you are unable to buy them food (or uncomfortable doing it) get them a gift card from the local supermarket. Find somebody who knows the family in need (maybe their pastor, or a neighbor) and ask them to please give them the card, but not to tell them the gift is from you.Random Acts of Kindness are best served from God, not from us. Be creative with your Random Acts of Kindness. Have fun with them. Make them a family project. If you think you get a charge from it, wait until you see how the kids get into it. The possibilities are endless, as are the opportunities. We just have to train ourselves to be watchful for the chance to bless. It can be as simple as a greeting card slipped onto a stranger's car windshield that says, "You are loved". You could even send flowers to a hospital patient you've never met. Opportunities to bless surround us every day. It's up to us to grab hold of those opportunities and turn them into Random Acts of Kindness. -- Chris Courtney ___________________________________________ Chris, and his wife, Jennie, run E-ncouragement Ministries. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." I CORINTHIANS 13:12, 13 NIV What will it be like to see love face to face? When we think of love do we imagine words that define it, or do we consistently see a picture of Jesus in our mind's eye? I Corinthians chapter 13 gives us a description of love. It begins with two qualities referring to what love is, followed by a long list of what love is not. I've often wondered why God chose to emphasize the negatives in the description. There is a reason. God knows us more fully than we can ever hope to know ourselves. He understands our weaknesses beyond our ability to even recognize all of them - or how often we allow them to prevail. As I read through each admonishment regarding what love is not, I see my weaknesses bubble to the surface...."love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs...." (I Cor. 13:4, 5) I'm guilty of each of these antonyms of love. At one time or another, I've allowed my weaknesses to overcome God's directive to love. But there is beauty in falling short. It's a constant reminder that we are powerless to do anything worthy of praise without the lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives. Our heart's desire and ability to love others is directly related to our willingness to surrender to Him. God is love. If we begin to look into the eyes of others and picture our Lord looking at us, our perspective will change. God looks at us through eyes of love. Every morning He sees us through the filter of His infinite mercy - He sees us falling repeatedly, yet is never tempted to be impatient or unkind; He sees our wrongdoings, but doesn't record or remember them in light of His grace. God alone exemplifies the absolutes of love - He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres - He never fails. He is the One we should see when we look at others...and we need look no further than God's clearest reflection - His Son, Jesus - to truly see the face of love. --- ...Aww, sweet! Thanks LouiseA! Reminds me of an exercise I'd have my kids do. I'd stand beside them as they looked in the mirror and say, 'Look in your eyes. Do you see that sparkle? That little light? You know what that is? That's God In Christ In You!' Always blessed them and helped them feel God's presence inside of them just a little bit better. =========================================================== >-->From Archives InspiredBuffalo: ,;;;;;;, ,;;;;;;, ,;;;@@@@@;;;@@@@@;;;, ,;;;@@,;;;,@,;;;,@@;;;, ;;;@@;;;' ';' ';;;@@;;; ;;;@@;;; ;;;@@;;; ;;;@@';;, ,;;'@@;;; ';;;@@';;,;;'@@;;;' ';;;@@';'@@;;;' jgs ';;;@@@;;;' ';;@;;' ( ';' (#) ) (#) ( (#) ) (#) >The Apprentice Angel by Guy Finley One day, a little angel who wanted to be a big angel was spending some time with a more seasoned angel. They were invisibly walking down a busy city street, and the older angel said to the apprentice angel: "Would you like to hear something amazing?" The little angel said, "I don't know," because he knew that whenever the older angel asked him things like this, he was about to receive a certain spiritual shock. The little angel finally said, "Well, all right, what is it?" They proceeded down the street and into a little coffee shop, and in there was a man drinking his coffee. As the two angels took a seat, in walked a devil (also moving about invisibly). The devil sauntered in and sat right next to the man drinking his coffee. The little angel knew that he was getting close to the lesson at this point, and the senior angel said, "Come on over here." Now, angels can see devils but devils can't see angels, so this devil couldn't see the two angels watching him. If he could have seen them, then he never would have done what he was about to do, because everything that angels learn about what devils are doing gives angels the opportunity to teach human beings how to be smarter than devils. So, this devil leans over to the man sitting there in the coffee shop, and the angels lean forward to hear something that the devil whispers into the man's ear. The little angel falls back and says, "Ah ha! I see now. This explains so much." The senior angel confirms, "That's right." What the little angel heard the devil whisper in the man's ear was this: "Take this pain and pass it along." With those words, the devil gave that man a little bit of pain. The angels followed the man as he walked down the street. When he got to his car, he found that somebody had parked his car too close to his, making it very hard for him to get out of his parking space. A string of oaths came out of the man's mouth as he contemplated banging his car into the offending car. Then, just as he lets out that stream of violent energy, a woman walking down the street nearby -- who actually didn't hear what the man said -- did exactly what the devil had told the man to do, which was to "take this pain and pass it along. " That woman picked up the man's pain and never even knew it, never saw it, never felt it go into her. The moment that pain entered into the woman walking down the street, she looked in a store window and saw a co-worker who had said something to her yesterday. Now she knew why she was in pain because there was "the idiot that made her feel that way." The woman in the shop looked out and saw the woman looking in with a scowl on her face (that she didn't know she had on her face), and felt the pain that woman was passing along to her. The minute the woman in the store felt it, she began to think of her son who had gotten bad grades and who continued to resist the education that was necessary, and she made up her mind that when she got home, she was going to "ground him and really show him something"… and to the devil's delight, the pain was passed along endlessly to unsuspecting human beings. -<>- ,;;;;;;\ ,;;;;;;, ,;;;@@@@@/ /;;@@@@@;;;, ,;;;@@,;;;\ \,@,;;;,@@;;;, ;;;@@;;;' '\ \;' ';;;@@;;; ;;;@@;;; / / ;;;@@;;; ;;;@@';;, \ \ ,;;'@@;;; ';;;@@';;,\ \;;'@@;;;' ';;;@@';/ /'@@;;;' jgs ';;;@/ /@@;;;' ';/ /;@;;' \;' >Heaven's Heroes Winning souls tend to change everything, Including who and what we are. When our darkness within transforms to light And our eyes have the luster of a star. We must always pray for the lost among us Who eagerly race toward the wrong direction. So they may know their own repentance Blessed by God's, grace, love and protection. All of heaven's heroes have suffered remorse >From hate, fear, lust, loneliness and war. They do what they do with deliverance of heart Defeating the dark side of life and more. Noah found safety within the beams of his ark To endure heaven's cleansing of earth. Moses the deliverer, climbed a mountain Descending with God's guidelines of worth. David the shepherd, a boy among men Slew evil's giant with a flying stone. Samson the strong man, broke from his chains Toppling the temple with God's help alone. Jonah was swallowed by a monster fish To be cast up on shore with a prophecy to tell. Jesus of Nazareth was nailed to the cross And without his forgiveness we're doomed to fail. Lord I'll feel blessed to greet all your heroes When it is my time to escape my woes. I'll clutch their hands and kiss their face As we celebrate the journey we chose. ~ Tom Zart ~ Soldier For The Lord -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Rich VS Poor http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/richvspoor.html Paradox Of Our Times http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/paradoxofourtimes.html Big Boy Toys! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bigboytoys.html Honor Nature! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/honornature.html >SPECIAL LINKS For Valentine's Day.... It was midnight. I was lost. Suddenly I heard a load noise and I was blind. Everything was white. An hour, or maybe a minute later I reached out and touched white and it resisted, then quickly became soft like a cloud. It folded and dropped. The air smelled burnt. Understanding dawned: airbag smoke. An accident? I lowered the automatic windows to let smoke out and warm air in. I thought, "Don't be afraid." Then an angel appeared, next to my window. She was dressed in white, with a white scarf across her throat and down her back, rather like folded wings. She spoke in a soft voice. "Are you OK?" Yes. "Are you drunk?" No. "High?" No. "Can you drive?" Yes. "You must leave now." What?! -- I'm lost. "Listen you must roll up your windows. Can you do that?" Confused, I fumbled for controls in the unfamiliar rental car, noticing young men gathering around the passenger side. Though thinking rolling up the window might appear rude to them, I did as I was told. I was no longer a professional woman in control of her life. I was a middle-aged woman-child in a strange city at night in a scary situation. I was vulnerable; at the mercy of strangers. "Your back window is down. Roll it up!" she commanded. She raised her voice, "Nothing for you to see. Everyone's all right. I'm handling this." She asked where I was going; I gave the hotel's name. She turned to a shadow who looked like he wanted to escape. "He'll give you directions". From the other side came, "Hey lady, I can tell you how to get there." She said, "Don't listen to them." To them, she said "I'm taking care of her, you don't need to hang around. There's nothing to see." Her escort nervously gave me directions. She made me repeat them. Then, "If you can drive, go! Now!" I thanked her and went! Finally in my hotel room, I began to shake. Was I really in danger? She and her companion believed so. She put herself at risk to help me, a stranger. And by confronting the young men, made herself the focus of attention instead of me. How easy it would have been for her to look the other way, watch from the sidewalk or call 911, tell herself she'd done her part and walk away. What courage it to confront the men she obviously regarded as dangerous. I think of her as an angel. That thought struck me when I saw her next to me in her white dress. But I know she's more than an angel, she's an extraordinary woman of courage, who put herself in danger for a complete stranger. I often wonder if I can measure up to the standard she has set, if I'm called upon to be an angel for someone else. I can only hope that the memory of her courage will be enough. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: .-""""--. _ _ / ) ( \/ ) / --"` \ / _ _ / _`:____ \/ ( \/ ) | .-' `\ \ / \ / .----'./ \/ \ : ,-' ~(.).)\ _ _ \_| \ ._) | ( \/ ) _ _ / | \.__, / \ / ( \/ ) _.--' )`///-,-' _ _ \/ \ / / / _| (_\\ ( \/ ) \/ | (____/____) \ / \ ___/ | _ \/ `---( ` ) `-, .'
