They tend to look at the world and all that surrounds them through skeptical, judgmental lenses. They become cantankerous and cease to enjoy the world around them. How sad. Age should cause us to take in, appreciate and enjoy the world around us and those we come in contact with. Older people should stay a bit contemporary in thought while meshing wisdom with the reality of their age. Youth is fun and age is stability -- what a wonderful combination. If only we adults could look at the world through the eyes of a child, we would be more accepting of the things that are important. We adults become demanding. Things desired become essential. We judge prematurely as our eyes lie to us. When did we graduate to the point we need a referee to settle the argument between innocence and rebuke? Our fault-finding and criticism replaces admiration and respect and we often become what we detest. Our granddaughter, Hanna, loves to go with her mother to yard sales. She proudly states that's where she acquired a cute little outfit I complimented her on. Many adults would hide the fact their purchase was found anywhere besides a high-price department store. Why do we let pride replace innocence? One day Hanna's grandpa, Bill, and I had her out for an outing. We pulled into a parking space and Bill jumped out to go in the store. Hanna and I were enjoying our time together and I noticed a rather cluttered looking vehicle parked beside us. "Me like that truck," Hanna's words jumped out and grabbed me. Surprised that she had noticed the unkempt vehicle, I asked, "You do, why do you like it?" "Me just do," she stated. I begin to try and see what she saw in the truck with a multitude of items hanging from the rear view mirror. It looked littered and untidy through my eyes. But, I decided through Hanna's eyes she was intrigued by the very colorful items that I saw as clutter. What is debris in the eyes of an adult is a treasure in the eyes of a child. Then I looked around at the untidy interior of my own vehicle and wondered how another older adult might judge me because of my messy van. We adults often find irrational reasons for judging, and complicated reasons for liking things or people. Children don't need complex reasons for enjoying or loving. We adults seem to have to seek reasons to love and to appreciate. Children just do. Maturity should bring with it lessons learned, but often wisdom is seen in the heart of a child. We often don't see ourselves as we appear. As age has come upon me, I realize that fact even more. I don't see myself as the mirror reflects or as my birthdays confirm. But, one Sunday morning a little child validated the fact that I had arrived at "old age." Going from the parking lot into church recently one Sunday morning, a little boy walked up beside me as I rode on my jazzy motorized wheel-chair. I'm sure, I correctly understood the little fellow as he called me an "old lady." I thought to myself as he uttered those words, well Betty, you better just face it -- those words are coming from the innocence of a child. He sees you as you are -- not how you feel, how you once were, or how you wish you could be. So keep in mind, wisdom isn't necessarily only seen in the elderly, so don't miss seeing it in the young. Fun isn't reserved only for youth -- so love, laugh, and enjoy life as you age, and remember to look for wisdom in the heart of a child. -- Betty King ___________________________________________ Betty is a Heartwarmer Gem, a newspaper life style and devotional columnist, and the author of four books including It Takes Two Mountains to Make a Valley. Toward the end of a passage we call "The Sermon on the Mount," Jesus gave a strong warning: "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" (Matthew 7:13-14). Our message must always lead down the "narrow road" and toward the "narrow gate" of Salvation. If it does, it is truth and honoring to God; if it does not, it is full of deceit and grieves our Heavenly Father. Of course, the most important aspect of a true message is the name of Jesus. If our message does not include the sacrifice of Jesus as our necessary AND sufficient path to forgiveness and eternal life, then we do not carry a message of truth. Without Jesus there is no Christian faith - there is no eternal hope. Philippians 2:9-11 "Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." God exalted (lifted up) Jesus to the highest place in Heaven. Have we exalted Him to the highest place in our own life? Before we have any chance of communicating a message of truth with the world, we must have a message of truth residing in our heart. Have we truly accepted His forgiveness which only comes through faith, or are we still trying to earn our way, chasing after false messengers, and traveling down the broad road of destruction? Do we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30), or are we still just getting acquainted from a distance? What about our place of worship? God has an important role for the local church and desires each of us to be in fellowship with other believers. But if our church does not lift up the name of Jesus Christ, it becomes little more than a social club leading an entire flock of lost sheep down the broad road away from the gate. God forbid! Let's exalt Jesus to the highest place in our life, in our home, and in our church. Let's love Him with all our heart and take active steps to draw closer to His presence. Let's show the world that eternal life is only through faith in the name which is above all other names - the name of Jesus. --- ...Great reminder! He was depressed with all the evil and human suffering happening around the world right now and wondering how God could put up with it and not take everything out. I reminded him that God has a plan, a purpose and He is most long suffering and patient! How hard it must have been for God to go through all the evil that occurred during the Old Testament times without ending it all, yet if He did, He knew He would not have His only begotten Son Jesus Christ and all the Apostles and believers and children He has now. He wouldn't have us or those to come after us. God has a plan and none of us know when the end shall be, but we know it shall be for the best because God shall be the one to choose it. You may wonder how the 'Name of Jesus' reminded me of this. It is because God knew before the foundation of the world that Jesus would be the savior of the world and we would be His children. Without Jesus, there would not have been a reason for this world. After the Fall, God foretold of Jesus way back in Gen.3:15 to the devil. So God had to wait until Mary came to be to bare His Son. Like I said, God has much long suffering and patience! No doubt He was thrilled to have such a son as Jesus was. One who always did His will. One He was most proud of... Matt.17: [5] While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. After waiting all those years with anxious anticipation and expectations, I bet God was filled to overflowing with joy and happiness to finally have His beloved Son, Jesus! After all Jesus did, God Exalted Him! So yes. The Name Of Jesus IS most important! God, like us, let Jesus know what was at stake for His own personal reward - yes God rewarded Jesus! You Bet! Check out this teaching... For The Joy That Was Set Before Him You don't think of Jesus as having a bad day, do you? About a century ago Stephen Grellat was led one day to go out to a heavily forested area of America to preach. It was a strong inward compulsion of the holy spirit. When he arrived at the loggers' camp, he found they had moved to another location, and their shanties were deserted. However, he was so sure he was sent by God that he went into an empty shanty and preached to the bare walls the sermon God had placed upon his heart. He then returned to his home, He could never understand why God would send him to preach to an empty shanty. Many years later, as he walked across a bridge, a man grasped his arm, "I found you at last," the man said. "I think you are mistaken," said Mr. Grellat. "No, Didn't you preach in an empty shanty in the woods years ago?" "Yes," Mr. Grellat admitted, "but no one was there." "I was the foreman in charge of the loggers," the stranger explained. "We had moved to a new location, before long I realized I'd left one of my tools behind. I returned to get it and heard a voice in one of the shanties, I peered through a crack between the logs and saw you. You never saw me, but I listened to the rest of the sermon, God touched my heart that day and I became so convicted of my sins, that after some time I purchased a Bible, repented of my sins, and became a Christian, then I began to win my men to Christ. Your sermon has led over a thousand people to Christ, and three of them have gone on to become missionaries!" - Wesley L Duewel -<>- .======. /((((((()\ ((/// \)) ((/`__ __()) /`-{_o}^{o_}'\ \_ _\ _/ \ .__, / \ `-' / /`----'\ jgs.-"""`------'`""-. >A New Dawning I awaken sleepily yawning A bright new day is dawning, Time to arise and greet the morn A new world is just being born. I take my seat in the old wicker chair And marvel at sights around me there, I tremble but not from the cold As God's majestic miracles unfold. The countryside like a kaleidoscope Reflects new colors and inspiring hope, I witness God painting from his palette And am awed by the pure majesty of it. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds So, here's what we need you to do . (1) Forward this email to everyone you know (at least 11 people). Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you. (2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day. Thank you for your participation. Mazzella I heard a story today that found a warm place in my heart. I don’t know if it is true or not, but if it isn’t then it should be. It seems a mother was recently approached by her teenage daughter who asked for a new $160 piece of electronics equipment to replace her old one. Her old one by the way was only a year old and was working fine. The wise mom said she would think about it but first could her daughter help her with some errands that afternoon. That afternoon the mother and daughter climbed into their car and headed for the local grocery store. Once there the mom went straight to the bulk food section and started loading food in the carts. Soon two shopping carts were overflowing with bags of generic rice, sacks of potatoes, boxes of ramen noodles, cases of canned vegetables, jars of peanut butter and jelly, and loaves upon loaves of bread. Without a word the mom headed straight for the checkout lines, paid for the food, and loaded up the car. The daughter was curious but said nothing. The mom then drove in silence straight to a local food bank. Without a sound she started to carry in the groceries while her startled daughter helped. Soon both of them were filling up the empty shelves while the workers and needy families looked on. After a few seconds, however, both of them were showered with teary eyes, crushed with hugs, and thanked with more "God bless you’s" than the daughter had ever heard before. As they were driving home the mom finally smiled and handed her daughter the receipt for the groceries. The total was $162 and change. "That is what $160 is really worth", the mom said. "Now next week we can buy you that gadget you want or we can make another trip to shop for the food bank that helped keep us alive and together when you were just a baby. It’s up to you." The daughter smiled and with tears in her eyes said, "I’ll be shopping with you, Mom!" -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: In The Beginning http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/inthebeginning.html Lest We Forget http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lestweforget.html Pay It Forward http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/payitforward.html Paradox Of Our Time http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/paradoxofourtimes.html Rich VS Poor http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/richvspoor.html Wisdom For Life http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wisdomforlife.html Animal Friends http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/animalfriends2.html Friends Last Journey http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/mananddog.html Nigerian Dwarf Goat http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/goat.html Amazing Photos 2 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/amazingphotos2.html You and Me Together http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/youandme.html -<>- >From Our Friends At TruthOrTradition.com New Article - Bible Study Who is the Bride of Christ? When our mother put David on the bus she explained to the driver that he was a minor traveling on his own, and asked the driver to make some effort to ensure he reached his destination 400 miles away without incident. Another rider, Jesse, overhearing our mother's explanation to the driver, introduced himself and offered to keep an eye on my brother. Our mother accepted. The driver would be busy with an entire bus full of passengers, but a fellow passenger would not have such distractions. The bus ride, unfortunately, was not quite without incident. There had been an accident on the two-lane highway, and fire crews were on hand to put out a blaze that had erupted from one of the vehicles. The bus, unable to pass, was stopped on the highway, and many of the passengers stepped outside to gawk at the spectacle and to take the opportunity to stretch their legs. Once the blaze was out and the emergency crews had the lanes cleared for travel, the bus driver called for everyone to get back on the bus and started moving again. However, he never counted of his passengers -- and left eight of them behind, stranded at the side of the road in the middle of the California desert. David was one of those left behind. True to his word, Jesse, who had promised that he would keep an eye on my brother, was by his side. A number of motorists, who had been forced to stop and wait for the roadway to be cleared, were appalled to see so many people left behind after the bus drove off. Soon all of the travelers were found places in various cars so they could reach the bus station, still nearly 100 miles away. David and his new friend chatted together during the drive with the family that had offered them a ride, and discovered that they each were visiting their grandparents. Not only that, but their grandparents had settled in the same neighborhood, and lived mere blocks from each other. Although the boys were safe, my aunt was at the bus station waiting to pick up my brother. When the bus arrived and he was missing, she was worried and raised a fuss! Once Jesse and David arrived and retrieved their luggage, Jesse handed my brother's care over to our aunt, who was still waiting at the station. My mother was so relieved to learn that Jesse had kept his word to look out for David. She wrote Jesse a letter, which she sent to my brother and he gave to Jesse, thanking Jesse for his diligence and expressing her motherly gratitude. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: _____ _.-'" "'-._ ,-".-. .-."-. ,' .-. .-. `, / / _\ / _\ \ .-. | | ( | | ( | | .-. .-----\ \ | '---' '---' | / /-----. :---- |--| ', ,' |--| ----: :---- '-`|--| ^"-.,_______,.-;^ |--|`-' ----: '---....' | _ `-' | '....---' | [ '-"-.-"-. | \ | .-. .-. | / `. | | | | | | ,' `._ [___]|__]|__] _,' `--.._____..--' / / \ \ jgs / / \ \ .---'"=="\ /"=="'---.
