It is such a blessing as it shows just how concerned God is with details! William also gave us another insight: Just an interesting FYI: The Majority (or all) of Old Latin mss (and Greek f13 line, and Old Syriac s and c) for Matthew 1:16 read "Jacob became the father of Joseph, betrothed to whom a virgin, Mary, bore Jesus the one called Christ." I had considered Old Latin to be fairly reliable. Fascinating. They understood "andra" as "man, husband", and also desired to emphasize Mariam's (Mary's) virginity. Hello and God bless you! We have added an article, and audio teaching, to TruthOrTradition.com titled Mary, the Mother of Jesus: Defining True Greatness. This teaching covers many aspects of Mary's life and character that show she was a truly great woman of God. Her family pedigree was exalted and spotless. She was born into spiritual royalty because she was a descendant of David through his son Solomon and down through the kings of Judah, including such greats as Asa, Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, and Josiah. Mary was a woman of faith, courage, humility, praise, and prayer. She was a good wife and mother, and an exemplary disciple of Christ. Nevertheless, Mary often is not given the recognition she deserves, and that is primarily due to all the fanciful things that have been taught about her, such as that she was a “perpetual virgin,” or that she answers prayers and dispenses grace. These unbiblical things tend to make the average Protestant Christian avoid studying her life, which is sad, because she was an awesome believer. We can learn a lot from the woman who was chosen by God to bear His only begotten Son. By John Schoenheit. An 18 year old female tiger, born in captivity, had walked out of her cage and they were all out searching for her. They said she was pretty docile and they had almost got her one time when they found her and she came up to the handlers but she took off scared with a failed tranquilizer attempt. They were giving up the search because of fog. They were also telling local people be on the alert for school buses and such in the morning. Visions of crazed hunters out for a tiger kill popped into my mind. Whenever I have worries, my second thought is: 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." !|| !|||| ,/|||| !|'''| `\ | )\ \ ejm / \ \ \ So I go to God in prayer. Now I don't know about you, but I tend to be as Jesus would say a 'oh, ye of little faith' person. I need reassurance when something is really important to me. This time was no exception. I didn't want this big great animal hurt or destroyed just because she accidentally got out of her cage. It would not be right. So after I asked God to take care of it in the name of Jesus Christ, I asked for the reassurance. I wanted to hear straight from Jesus Christ himself that He would take care of it. It’s hard to read and even harder to understand. I guess there have been many times in my own walk where I would have had to agree with them. I read a passage and know there’s a message in there but don’t quite grasp what it is so I put it out of my mind and find myself ‘re-ashing’ something I already do understand, …..makes for an easier Bible study wouldn’t you say? Well, believe it or not, at the time when the Bible was written up, the style would have been about ‘7 the Grade” reading as we know it today…. 12 or 13 year old stuff. They didn’t have to be rocket scientists because they didn’t have rockets! The whole principal in the Bible, is to enable us to have a better understanding of God and His spirituality. For the most part, almost all of us who can read the written language can do just that… we can ‘sound’ the words quite well but when it comes to understanding? Well that’s a different kettle of fish. For instance, my subject today is ‘Faith”….so, just ‘what is ‘ Faith? The answer is very plain in the Bible. It’s found in Hebrews Chapter 11, verse 1. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. The text is easy to read and easy to understand for the ‘believer’ but for the ‘unbeliever’? Well, the word and the meaning of faith demands a ‘spiritual’ understanding rather than a physical or worldly understanding, so although so its easy to say that almost everyone can read the words but not all can ‘spiritually’ discern them. The mind that has it’s foundation ‘in the flesh’ cannot get past just the words. The inner ‘spirituality’is the key to the understanding and that cannot be attained by a fleshly approach, it is the ‘acquisition’ of a spiritual mind that leads us to a greater and more tangible understanding of God. Not too many of us have seen God…and generally what we can’t see or touch doesn’t exist..The classic way to prove that electricity doesn’t exist is to stick your finger in a light socket. The result? We who are left observing get to ‘see’ the result. The one who was the adventurous one? Well that might be what no longer lives to tell the story. Don’t do that at home! So there is a good example of false teaching….. “what we don’t see, don’t exist!” Having faith, is an essential for our spirituality to grow and to develop into what God wants us to be enabling us to have what God wants us to have and that is ‘eternal’ life….with Him. Until we study Him, we will not get to know Him and if we don’t get to know Him we will not ‘hear’ Him speak to us. Oh yes! He does speak to us! He speaks through our heart and our conscience! And only unbelievers will tell you He cant speak to us! But then again….they are people who have no proof either ‘for’ or against God…they just have a bunch of words ready when someone else shows that ‘they’ are believers! Usually sarcastic and often ‘nasty’ words. It’s the indwelling Spirit of God that opens our eyes when we have opened our hearts to Him in Faith and until we do just that, our spiritual ‘knowledge’ will not develop as it should. The Bible actually tells us that the ‘word of God’ is foolishness until we gain spiritual ‘eyesight’ and this in the past, has served only to encourage ‘false teaching’ allowing us to try to perceive God not in a spiritual way, but in a ‘fleshly’ way. Wasn’t there a time when you thought God walked around or even ‘flew’ around’ with His long white garments flowing behind in the wind followed by His long white beard? Well, the Bible tells us to 'put away' childish things! You see what I mean? We have been taught to preconceive what he looks like! Therefore…..the ‘fleshly’ things have invaded many of our doctrines and made ‘nonsense’ rather than ‘sense’ of the scriptures. --- ...Yes Tony, Thank you. I see what you mean. If we think of God as creator of this world, then perhaps we could understand him better. Most all of God's animals have relationships. He created them. Male, female, offspring. Loving, caring, nurturing - one on one. Why do we put God in this in this weird box that is so high we cannot see into it. Think about it. If you are creating something, it is from your in ner self. It is like part of you. We know more about a person by their own artwork, or handiwork, or skills. So why do we think God is not wanting close personal relationships with us? I mean, We must have total respect and awe of God Almighty, but as 'children' of God, we must also allow Him to be a personal part of our life. He Is Our FATHER. If our earthly Father would not be seen or felt or heard from us, then we would not like him or love him very much. We would probably resent him and be angry that he didn't care much for us and wasn't there for us. ,--.,-"";-"-. .-;-/ / / .- `\ .-. ` ( ' ' ` ; `\/ \ \ / \ / (. No name, no identification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so. It all began because my husband Mike hated Christmas -- oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it -- overspending, the frantic running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and the dusting powder for Grandma -- the gifts given in desperation because you couldn't think of anything else. Knowing that he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties and so forth. I reached for something special just for Mike. The inspiration came in an unusual way. Our son Kevin, who was 12 that year, was wrestling at the junior level at the school he attended. Shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team sponsored by an inner-city church, mostly black. These youngsters, dressed in sneakers so ragged that shoestrings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast to our boys in their spiffy blue uniforms and sparkling new wrestling shoes. As the match began, I was alarmed to see that the other team was wrestling without headgear, a kind of light helmet designed to protect a wrestler's ears. It was a luxury the ragtag team obviously could not afford. Well, we ended up walloping them. We took every weight class. And as each of their boys got up from the mat, he swaggered around in his tatters with false bravado, a kind of street pride that couldn't acknowledge defeat. Mike, seated beside me, shook his head sadly. "I wish just one of them could have won," he said. "They have a lot of potential, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them." Mike loved kids -- all kids -- and he knew them, having coached youth league football, baseball, and lacrosse. That's when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought an assortment of wrestling headgear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas that year, and in succeeding years. For each Christmas, I followed the tradition -- one year sending a group of mentally handicapped youngsters to a hockey game, another year a check to a pair of elderly brothers whose home had burned to the ground the week before Christmas, and on and on. The envelope became the highlight of our Christmas. It was always the last thing opened on Christmas morning and our children, ignoring their new toys, would stand with wide-eyed anticipation as their dad lifted the envelope from the tree to reveal its contents. As the children grew, their toys gave way to more practical presents, but the envelope never lost its allure. The story doesn't end there. You see, we lost Mike last year to dreaded cancer. When Christmas rolled around, I was still so wrapped in grief that I barely got the tree up. But Christmas Eve found me placing an envelope on the tree, and in the morning, it was joined by three more. Each of our children, unbeknownst to the others, had placed an envelope on the tree for their dad. The tradition has grown, and someday will expand even further, with our grandchildren standing around the tree with wide-eyed anticipation, watching as their fathers take down the envelope. Mike's spirit, like the Christmas spirit, will always be with us. May we all remember Christ, who is the reason for the season, and the true Christmas spirit, this year and always. I decided to do some serious praying and promised God that if he would give us a child, I would be a perfect mother, love it with all my heart and raise it with His word as my guide. God answered my prayers and blessed us with a son. The next year God blessed us with another son. The following year, He blessed us with yet another son. The year after that we were blessed with a daughter. My husband thought we'd been blessed right into poverty. We now had four children, and the oldest was only Four years old. I learned never to ask God for anything unless I meant it. As a minister once told me, "If you pray for rain, make sure you carry an umbrella." I began reading a few verses of the Bible to the children each day as they lay in their cribs. I was off to a good start. God had entrusted me with four children and I didn't want to disappoint Him. I tried to be patient the day the children smashed two dozen eggs on the kitchen floor searching for baby chicks. I tried to be understanding... When they started a hotel for homeless frogs in the spare bedroom, although it took me nearly two hours to catch all twenty-three frogs. When my daughter poured ketchup all over herself and rolled up in a blanket to see how it felt to be a hot dog, I tried to see the humor rather than the mess. In spite of changing over twenty-five thousand diapers, never eating a hot meal and never sleeping for more than thirty minutes at a time, I still thank God daily for my children. While I couldn't keep my promise to be a perfect mother - I didn't even come close... I did keep my promise to raise them in the Word of God.. I knew I was missing the mark just a little when I told my daughter we were going to church to worship God, and she wanted to bring a bar of soap along to "wash up" Jesus, too. Something was lost in the translation when I explained that God gave us everlasting life, And my son thought it was generous of God to give us his "last wife." My proudest moment came during the children's Christmas pageant. My daughter was playing Mary, two of my sons were shepherds and my youngest son was a wise man. This was their moment to shine. My five-year-old shepherd had practiced his line, "We found the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes." But he was nervous and said, "The baby was wrapped in wrinkled clothes." My four-year-old "Mary" said, "That's not 'wrinkled clothes,' silly. That's dirty, rotten clothes." A wrestling match broke out between Mary and the shepherd and was stopped by an angel, who bent her halo and lost her left wing. I slouched a little lower in my seat when Mary dropped the doll representing Baby Jesus, and it bounced down the aisle crying, "Mama-mama." Mary grabbed the doll, wrapped it back up and held it tightly as the wise men arrived my other son stepped forward wearing a bathrobe And a paper crown, knelt at the manger and announced, "We are the three wise men, And we are bringing gifts of gold, common sense And fur." The congregation dissolved into laughter, and the pageant got a standing ovation. "I've never enjoyed a Christmas program as much as this one," laughed the pastor, wiping tears from his eyes. "For the rest of my life, I'll never hear the Christmas story without thinking of gold, common sense and fur." "My children are my pride and my joy and my greatest blessing," I said as I dug through my purse for an aspirin. Jesus had no servants, Yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, Yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, Yet they called Him Healer.. Had no army, Yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, Yet He conquered the world. I guessed that he was going to tell me something very important, and frantically asked him what was wrong. He said I needed to go out to the pasture where the horses were, and go now. The pasture was 20 minutes from where I work as a graphic artist in a small town print shop. I had rented seven acres for my four horses to graze on, as I feel it is much healthier than keeping them in a stall. My yearling colt had evidently rolled in the dirt too close to the wire fence, and put his leg through the fence. When he stood up, his leg was caught, and he must have twisted around and around trying to get free. The fence wrapped around his back leg, cutting it to the bone. Our neighbor boy, "Jimmy", only 10 years old at the time, saw the colt's dilemma. He was very resourceful. Seeing a sign near the pasture offering the colt for sale, he called the number on the sign with his cell phone. He reached my husband, who then called me. Jimmy's quick thinking probably saved the colt's life. Then two more people pitched in. Some folks who live down the road saw the colt and stopped their truck. One worked to cut the leg loose from the fence while the other went running to look for a halter. At the same time, they called their veterinarian and took full responsibility for the cost. While they waited for the vet, they fixed the cut fence so the other horses wouldn't get out. They have horses so they knew just what to do. By the time I got there, no one was around -- but Jimmy came running when he saw me to let me know what had happened. The colt was well taken care of, beautifully stitched up and bandaged, and put away in the shed by the road. This was a perfect place to confine him; I kept him there to recover from his injury. He recovered perfectly and has only a tiny scar. I found out the names of his rescuers and went to visit with them. I wanted to thank them, pay the vet bill and find out what had happened. They were very gracious, saying what a beautiful colt I had and how perfectly he had behaved for them as they worked to free him and waited for the vet. Later, I explored the area and realized that was a favorite place for all the horses to roll. To prevent another accident, I laid down huge rocks there. And I now keep my horses in a different pasture with different fencing. Three people I didn't know went out of their way to rescue my colt from his own mistake. Crazy things happen, they just do, and I will never forget their instant, unquestioning assistance. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From SermondFodder: Not Now depression! But the job offer fell through. In his hotel room Joe struggled all evening with depression. Giving up the struggle around 3 A.M., he went out to get the shotgun he had in the trunk of his car. He intended to end his life. However, for some reason Joe's key would not unlock the trunk. Tense and frustrated, he kept trying, with no success. Suddenly, Joe realized that a man had walked up behind him. "Do you need help?" the stranger asked. "Not the kind anyone can give me." Indicating a restaurant next to the hotel, the stranger said, "Let's have coffee and talk about it." They talked for an hour. Then the stranger wrote a phone number on a napkin and gave it to Joe. "If you still need help in the morning, call this number." At 9 A.M., Joe dialed the number. My husband, Ken, a pastor, had stopped by the church office on his day off to pick up a book. When the phone rang, he answered it. "I'm going to kill myself," Joe said. "I can't go on." Ken calmed Joe, listened to his problems, and learned he had diabetes. Then he succeeded in convincing Joe that blood-sugar problems can cause depression, and Joe eventually agreed to let Ken take him to a hospital. Diabetes, along with high blood pressure, was indeed Joe's problem. With medication, his emotions stabilized by the next day. Who gave Joe the church phone number? We never found out. But Joe told us that when he called his wife to tell her what had happened, she said, "Something woke me at 3 A.M. the night after you didn't get the job. I prayed for God to send someone to help you. I guess He did." God has promised that in His kingdom, "before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear."- Isaiah 65:24 We will experience that fully only in the new earth, when God dwells with us. You search for the source, At the front door it's found. You open the door and There stands a man That you've never met, With a checkbook in hand. He says, "Go gather your bills And add them today. I have this checkbook, And I'd like to pay." You pause for a moment, This cannot be real! But you would be foolish To not take this deal. Now here's the surprise This story is true! The door's not in your house, It's inside of you. The 'debt' is your sin That you carry around. But Jesus will pay it, Now, how does that sound? Yes, a check He will write With salvation's pen. There's a knock at your door, Won't you let Him in? -Author Unknown >Updated FUN STUFF URLS - Oh Yeah :) Shangy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/urls.html FUN URLS ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -->Bigham's Computer Rescue - PC Sales && Service You can trust us to provide you with quality computer sales and repair.
