Well, a fellow member of my church once told a story about one such experience that changed his life. For years, he had difficulty saving money to buy a house because something would always occur and consume more money than he had expected to spend. Despite his efforts, he simply could not go long before spending the extra cash that he had saved. Then one day, a car accident badly damaged the car his wife was driving. Their mechanic estimated the cost of repairs at five thousand dollars. Unfortunately, they were in a financial bind and so the car would have to wait. After contemplating the situation, he realized they needed a solution to their financial problems. To remedy the situation, he worked long and hard for weeks, saving and managing his money in a way he had never done previously. In a few months, he had saved enough funds to have his wife's car repaired. Once the car was repaired, he discussed with his wife how quickly they had put aside the money they needed. During their discussion his wife encouraged him to open a second account so they could continue to put away the same amount of money that they were saving every week for the car repair. This money would go towards the house they had always wanted to purchase. He was convinced that if he could save thousands of dollars in a few months for a car, he could eventually save enough to buy a house. For many years they had both wanted to buy their dream house but could not seem to come up with the down payment. However, in a little over a year, he had saved more than twenty thousand dollars and was able to make the down payment. He had done something in a short while that he had failed to accomplish in his previous attempts to properly handle his finances. Consequently, this man's experiences gave him a different feeling about money. He and his wife have continued to maintain their second account. This time they have decided to start saving for their retirement, putting away just a little less every week than they did for their house. This man embraced a new set of traits because he had a goal that was imperative for him to achieve. He made a plan to achieve it and followed through. The experience of a single misfortune taught him a valuable lesson and challenged him to reprogram his saving and spending habits. In the process, he also changed his family's life. He now enjoys the material benefits along with a sense of accomplishment and pride. The value of making the most of our experiences is that they teach us lessons about life -- about failures, successes, and everything in between. In the midst of our challenges always remember success often comes in disguise. -- Dean Pennicott ___________________________________________ Dean Pennicott is the author of a very inspiring new ebook, Make Success Happen. Scene: Sunlight gently washing over the trees as it slowly rises. Birds already busy with their day are seen darting back and forth, pausing along the shore line of the lake, then off about their business. Gentle ripples of water reflect the sun's advance radiating like electric impulses softly kissing the pebbles along the shore. Appearing motionless, perhaps mesmerized by the scene before him, you can see the silhouette of one man and the distant town lights giving up the night watch to the light of day. From the right enters a young woman. She carefully approaches him. So as not to startle him she pauses after a few steps, then continues closer. "You are up early," she says softly. He runs his hand through his hair and rubs his eyes. "I never went to bed," he says. "Oh, Jim. Don't tell me you've been here..." "Yes, for the most part," he says interrupting her. She reaches for him placing her hand on his shoulder and running it down his arm until she grips his hand, squeezing it gently. "What did it accomplish?" she asks. "Fade," he replies. She cocks her head slightly trying to understand. He repeats, "Fade. Like fade in, fade out. He said his life is fading." "Oh. Your dad." He turns quickly toward her, and when she looks he turns his head away, unable to look her in the eyes. "I'm afraid," he says quietly. "I'm scared to face this. I mean, I never saw someone die before." His hand begins to quiver as he raises it towards his face. Then placing it over his eyes he begins to cry. Not weeping, but the tears of a frightened child standing alone, feeling lost. "Oh, Jim. I wish I could make this easy for you. But death isn't easy, dying is," she says. Wiping the tears from his face he asks, "I don't understand. What's the difference?" "Your father is dying. It's time. His dying is a natural transition in life. He's ready, you're not. Dying for him is easy because he's lived so hard. He worked hard. He played hard. He loved even harder. He's complete. He's ready. But death is hard. Hard for all who loved him. Hard for all who will miss him. Hard to accept and hard to live with." "Fade. It's the thought of him fading away. Like...like going to darkness," he says. "He is so brilliant! So bright...he shouldn't just fade." "So that's why you stayed here all night," she says. "To see a bright day fade into night," he confirms. They both looked out to the horizon. The sun now shining bright, and the distant lights gone. "You stood here to see the sun set, the day fade into darkness," she tells him. "But over time you also saw the sun rise again. The darkness gave into the light. So will your grief. Your pain will be great and the loss even greater. "Contrary to what everyone will try to tell you, it does not fade. What does happen is the realization of how great your love was for him. The grief, the loss, the pain is like this lake. It runs deep. In the darkness, it is there and you will fear it because you cannot see it. But in the light of day, as the night fades, all of this is revealed and you are in awe of its magnitude and beauty. The same thing you feared in darkness. All the factors are the same. All the things remain. "Just like your love for your father. It is here now and will be afterwards. In the darkness and in the light. In the darkness you will grieve. In the light you will see how beautiful it is." Jim turns toward her and they embrace. "Now, go to him to see how beautiful it is and always will be," she whispers in his ear. The sun shines. The birds fly. The ripples kiss the beach. The young man and woman exit to the right. Fade to darkness. See the light. -Bob Perks -<>- o $""$o $" $$ $$$$ o "$o o" "$ oo"$$$" oo$"$ooo o$ "$ ooo"$oo $$$"o o o o o oo" o" "o $$o$" o o$"" o$ "$ "oo o o o o "$o ""$$$" $$ $ " o "" o" $ "o$$" o$$ ""o o $ $" $$$$$ o $ ooo o"" "o $$$$o $o o$ $$$$$" $o " $$$$ o" ""o $$$$o oo o o$" $$$$$" "o o o o" "$$$ $ "" "$" """"" ""$" """ """ " "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo$ "$$$$"$$$$" $$$$$$$"$$$$$$ " "$$$$$"$$$$$$" $$$""$$$$ $$$oo$$$$ $$$$$$o$$$$$$o" $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ o$$$$o$$$" $"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""$ $" o $"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$"$$ Babak Habibi >THE END OF TIME Ever so swiftly time marches on Ticking ... The other members of the tool belt informed him that he must leave, because he was too noisy. But brother Hammer said, “If I have to leave this carpenter's shop, then brother Gimlet must go too. He's insignificant and makes a very small impression.” (A gimlet is a small tool with a screw point, grooved shank, and a cross handle for boring holes). Little brother Gimlet arose and said, “All right, but brother Screwdriver must go also. You have to turn him around and around to get anywhere with him.” Brother Screwdriver turned to the other tools in the belt and said, “If you wish, I will go, but brother Plane must leave, too. All of his work is on the surface; there's no depth to what he does.” To this brother Plane leveled his terse reply, “Well, then, brother Saw will have to depart too. The changes he proposes always cut too deep.” Brother Saw complained, saying, “Brother Ruler will have to withdraw if I leave, for he's always measuring other folks as though he were the only one who is right.” Brother Ruler then surveyed the group and said, “Brother Sandpaper doesn't belong here either. He's rougher than he ought to be, and is always rubbing people the wrong way.” In the midst of the discussion, the Carpenter of Nazareth walked in. He had come to perform his day's work. He put on His tool belt and went to the workbench to make a pulpit. He employed the ruler, the saw, the plane, the hammer, the gimlet, the screwdriver, the sandpaper, and all the other tools. When the day's work was over, the pulpit was finished, and the carpenter went home. All the accusations against each of these tools were absolutely true, yet the carpenter used every one of them. No matter which tool He used, no other tool could have done the work better. We are all “tools” in Jesus' tool box. Each of us has a purpose, ability, and a task to perform. “For we are God's fellow workers...” (1 Corinthians 3:9) - Author Unknown -<>- >The Quilt of Life, old but good reminder! As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls. Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life. But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all. I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened. My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air. Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise. My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter. But there had also been trials of illness, and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me. And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was. I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light. An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes. Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, 'Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles. Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.' May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through! God determines who walks into your life.... it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.' -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Just Thinking http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/thinking.html Worms! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/worms.html Look Who's Talking #3 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/talking3.html Mini Baby Art http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/baby.html Origami Dollar Art http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/dollarart.html Beautiful Bridges http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bridges.html LCS 2 USS Independence http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lcs2.html Rules For US Civilians http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/rules.html Humor With Our Troops #4 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/humor4.html Cat Motivational Posters http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/catposters.html Amazing Albino Animals http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/albino.html When Sandman Attacks http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/sandman.html -<>- >From Our Friend Geniann :) She sent us one we have here... Silver Joyce Schowalter Colorado, USA In my young life, during the time that my father was very ill, my brothers and I were placed in foster care so that my mother could do what had to be done, earn a living. This was a completely voluntary solution, though imperative, since we were all very young. An agency through the Catholic Diocese and Los Angeles County screened these households during the early 1950s, and compensated those providing service. Some people apparently see foster care as a great way to supplement one's income. All looked rosy when first we took up residence. My two brothers shared a room and I, the little girl, had her very own room. The woman of the house was all sweetness and light when my mother was around. The man of the house had a hangdog expression, speaking infrequently and trying to be a buffer. I won't assail you with tales of physical abuse. Suffice to say the nightly ritual of dinner was an agonizing event. Once this woman prepared a pork roast and ate the cracklings at the kitchen table while we were required to watch. We were taunted about whether or not we had been good enough to enjoy this treat, which we had evidently not been. And man, I was glaring and salivating. We were removed soon enough from this place. There was a silver lining while there, however. This household was located in an area in Los Angeles that was just being developed and had acres and acres of wild areas. My older brother managed to survive all assaults, mental and physical, by finding a secret place in these wilds and disappearing. One day I followed him. I came upon him, crouched on the ground, digging. I crept up tentatively and asked what he was doing. He said he was building a miniature African fortress. We two then proceeded to spend hours: scraping the earth, evacuating the compound. We built huts and animal enclosures. We dug root cellars. A high observation tower was constructed by stripping twigs for twine to tie everything together. We enclosed all with a strong high wall out of available twigs and bark. It was a wonderful sight to behold in complete miniature. We left the fort that night planning to return when we could to continue our refinements. A few days later we went back. Our hearts sank. The field had been plowed! We ran to the place we remembered and there intact, with a distinct path around it, was our fort. We just stood there, looked at each other and smiled. I can only imagine what had occurred. Some big hulking sunburned man in this huge cultivator had somehow seen our little construction. He must have gotten out of his rig, squatted down, studied it and seen the intricacies and joy that went into it and decided to go around. I forever bless you kind sir. A miniature gesture -- of the highest order. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: --- ...Before we get started here, I have one of my own to share with you from my 3 little grandsons... , , \y ,--.y/ /,---. )\ / (((\\)\ \ \ \\-_/ / / \ i i / (_ )_( _) ) . It was made of Styrofoam or something that didn't hurt her but was very embarrassing to her falling through the floor with them hooting and laughing up a storm at her. My grandsons, however, were not laughing. Alex said, 'That isn't funny'. Right after that Bryce chimed in and said 'Yea'. And then Matthew said, 'Yea, she is a girl.
