This was the day that I looked forward to all week. I would hurry through my morning chores, finish my bowl of Tony the Tiger cereal -- It's GRREEEAT! -- and turn on our family's newly acquired television set. Yes, it was Saturday morning in the late 1950s and life was good! There were a lot of good programs such as Annie Oakley, Wild Bill Hickok, Zorro, Hopalong Cassidy, Lassie, Rin-Tin-Tin, Sky King, The Texas Rangers, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, just to name a few. Television was in black and white back then and sometimes it didn't come in very clear. In fact, I thought that it snowed in the desert until we got a better antenna with a rotary dial. I can still hear the steady "click-click" it made as it turned the antenna to the preferred direction. The remote control had not made an appearance in the 50s, so we had to actually get up out of our chairs and trek over to the television and change the channel manually. As I turned the dial, searching for a Saturday morning favorite, it didn't take long to check out all three of the channels that were available. I wondered why they had all of those other numbers on the dial. I would immediately stop at the channel where I heard the familiar sound of the William Tell Overture as the announcer would say: A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty hi-yo Silver. The Lone Ranger! With his faithful Indian companion Tonto, the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains led the fight for law and order in the early west. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear... The Lone Ranger rides again! After the programs were over it was time to pretend. Sometimes I would braid my hair like Annie Oakley, saddle my horse, and ride off down the trail. At other times I would pretend to be Dale Evans, Queen of the West. My brother and I, along with the neighborhood kids, would imitate our heroes and call each other Kemo Sabe -- meaning trusted scout -- and make silver bullets out of aluminum foil. The programs on Saturday morning were mostly westerns and stories of rescue and heroism. Who can forget the Songbird flying through the sky as we heard, "Out of the clear blue of the western sky comes Sky King!" Whether it was Sky King, Lassie, or The Lone Ranger, the programs were wholesome and filled with a plot and a purpose. They taught us that crime doesn't pay. The stories showed us through the heroic cowboys and lawmen that it was best to make good choices by having good morals and values. Our heroes gave us "The Code of the West" that all good cowboys and cowgirls followed: __________________ [-;-/=_ `-; \=_ ___ ) ,"-...--./===--__ __|/ / ]` /;--> >...-\ <\_ `- <<, 7/-.\, sk `- /( `- HOPALONG CASSIDY'S CREED FOR AMERICAN BOYS AND GIRLS: 1. A campfire wasn't complete without a cowboy singing a song as he strummed his guitar. Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and The Sons of The Pioneers were just a few of the great cowboy singers. Throughout the years, the morals and values of our childhood heroes carried us through. The children of the 50s are now grandparents who still believe in "The Code of the West" and it has served them well through troubles, illnesses, and wars. Roy Rogers' cowboy prayer still echoes in our hearts: Lord, I reckon I'm not much just by myself. I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do. But Lord, when trails are steep and passes high, Help me ride it straight the whole way through. And when in the falling dusk I get that final call, I do not care how many flowers they send, Above all else, the happiest trail would be for YOU to say to me, "Let's ride, My friend!" Amen. -- Pamela Perry Blaine ___________________________________________ Pam lives in Missouri with her husband, Michael. She enjoys composing music and writing stories. The only thing you have to fear is fear itself, because it is preventing you from progressing along the road of life. We can never judge the lives of others because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation.” ~~Paulo Coelho “Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears.” John Lennon You have the power to be whatever you choose to be today. Use your power wisely by tapping into your heart and bringing the power of love to all that you are. God gives. No more than we can handle – And no less than we deserve. -<>- >Happiness It is simple and easy to be happy. The hard part is Convincing yourself, and getting past your own resistance to happiness. You might assume that just because things are one way or Another, there is no possibility of happiness. Yet that assumption is entirely mistaken. You know precisely how to be happy, how to create the Feeling of happiness within yourself and how to express it Within any context. You've done it many times in a whole lot of different situations. Your happiness does not come from the moment, or the Surroundings, or even from the people around you. It comes from you, and from your decision to feel its positive power. Go ahead and skip right over all those reasons why you can't be happy. Instead, think of the times when you have been happy and recall the strategy you've always used to bring that happiness to life. Activate that very same strategy right now. And bring the Positive power of your own happiness to this very moment. -Ralph Marston --- ...Great thoughts! Thanks Bunni! =============================================================== >-->From Our Friend Linda :) >Thomas Jefferson This is amazing. There are two parts. Be sure to read the 2nd part. Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped. At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor. At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French. At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages. At 16, entered the College of William and Mary. At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe. At 23, started his own law practice. At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses. At 31, wrote the widely circulated "Summary View of the Rights of British Americaa and retired from his law practice. At 32, was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress. At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence. At 33, took three years to revise Virginia's legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom. At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry. At 40, served in Congress for two years. At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams. At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington. At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society. At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of Republican Party. At 57, was elected the third president of the United States. At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation's size. At 61, was elected to a second term as President. At 65, retired to Monticello. At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine. At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president. At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams. Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future: John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." ------------------------------------------------------ "When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe." -- Thomas Jefferson "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -- Thomas Jefferson "It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world." -- Thomas Jefferson "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." -- Thomas Jefferson "My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government." -- Thomas Jefferson "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." --Thomas Jefferson "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- Thomas Jefferson "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -- Thomas Jefferson "To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." -- Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." Everything is valuable only at TWO times: 1. Before getting it; and 2. After losing it !! Two things bring Happiness & Success in life: 1. The way you MANAGE when you have nothing, and 2. The way you BEHAVE when you have everything ! Two places are MOST VALUABLE in the world: 1. The NICEST place is to be in someone's Thoughts, and 2. The SAFEST place is to be in someone's Prayers. One of the greatest victories you can gain over someone is to beat him at politeness. Faith is taking the 1st step, even when you don't see the whole staircase. Keep your face to the Sun, And you will not see the shadow! A Deaf child says: "For all of you, I am deaf; But for me, all of you are dumb." Moral: Life differs in each perspective. Live the way you want to. It is always good to check once in a while, And make sure that You haven't lost the things that money CANNOT buy..!! Ego is the only requirement to destroy any relationship. Be a bigger person and skip the "E", and let it "go"..!! One good thing about Egoists: They don't talk about other people! They only talk about themselves! What is SUCCESS? It is when your photos are uploaded on GOOGLE, Instead of FACEBOOK..!! God didn't give us the gift to read others' minds so that: We could have the chance to "TRUST", And have the privilege to be "TRUSTED"! Always try to forgive the people who have hurt you, Otherwise they will occupy a RENT-FREE SPACE IN OUR MIND! God always likes to know again and again what you want. It is not that He forgets your Dreams & Prayers; But He loves to check your passion towards your desire..! I asked God: "If much is already written in Destiny, then WHY should I pray?" God smiled and said: "I have also written - CONDITIONS APPLY."!!! Empty pockets teach millions of things in life. But full pockets SPOIL us in million ways !!! No one in the world is afraid to speak the truth. Everybody is afraid to FACE THE CONSEQUENCES after the truth is told! Getting angry because someone made a mistake Is punishing yourself for the mistakes of others! You can never win people with Arguments but you can defeat them with your Smile! Because people who always wish to Argue with you, cannot bear your Silence !!! The search for happiness is one of the main sources of unhappiness. Diplomacy is an art of telling people to go to hell in such a way that they tend to ask you for directions..!! If a drop of water falls on a Lake, its identity is lost; If it falls on a Lotus leaf, it shines like a Pearl. Drop is the same; but it is the company that matters. Our HOPES should be like Hair & Nails. No matter how many times they get cut, They never stop growing. "F-E-A-R" has two meanings: 1. Forget Everything And Run. 2. Face Everything And Rejoice..! Choice is ours..!! If you walk the way you are guided by humans, you will find hopeless end; But if you walk the way you are guided by God, you will find endless hope. Memories are always special. Sometimes we laugh by remembering the days we cried; And we cry by remembering the days we laughed.!!! That's Life! Sea is there for all. Some take pearls, Some take fish, Some come out with just wet legs! The World is there for all too What we get from it is what we try for! To smile without condition, To walk without intention, To give without reason, To care without any expectation, Are the beauties of any Relation! Life is very complicated. When you have standards, people call it ATTITUDE; When you are simple, people try to CHEAT you; When you cheat others, people call you SMART! All communication problems are because We don't listen to understand; We listen to reply.!!! And, finally, MY FAVORITE: FRIENDSHIP is like a STICKER. Once it is peeled off, you may be able to stick it again, But it WON’T BE as strong as it was when you first applied it..! That is why ALWAYS TAKE CARE of your FRIENDSHIPS! --- ...Wow! Great advice! Varma Lo lo lo; the New Year is here at last!. It is emerging with new visions, new hopes, and new attitudes. It is rolling on with new energies, new feelings, and new focus. It is coming with new splendors, new spirits, and new information. Are you ready? Are you open to receive them all? Be still and know what you truly aspire, what you truly are? Observe all areas; material, emotions and creativity too. Leave not the spiritual and universal; important aspects you essentially are. Make a crisp list what the soul speaks out; check is this real-you? Confirm is this a blue print of you; is this you -the complete you? Envision and feel how it fulfills; does it connect you too? Practice stillness within you every day; as many times as you can. Release this list in silence and cultivate to listen. Soon you will start to hear the Self speak in you. The more you listen, the more clarity and confidence springs up. Jot down what it says; it is showing you the true way of aspirations to come. Do all things as guided and mess them not. Maintain your vehicle well to manifest them all. What you hear is the divinity of the Self in you. This inner dialogue is uplifting and building you all the way. Do your top level best and to That let the outcome be left. Be observant and alert and respond to situations as they dawn. You will notice, with positivity, you are turning the situations around. You are awakening the greatness that was lying dormant within you. You are manifesting your spirit on earth and helping others too. You will discover the power you looked outside is really within you. There is fulfillment to share and enjoy within you. There is beauty within that is splendid and radiates too. This is the beginning of a great New Year. This is the beginning of a new learning to blossom and grow. This is the beginning of a whole new secret to bliss. You are self-expanding to respond; that’s the sheer magnificence within you. Are you ready to receive these splendors of the heaven? Are you ready to receive in awareness; the wisdom of ALL? Going beyond the conventional stuff is the beginning of a new dawn of a new year. Affirmations: Marvin and I were driving home from a wedding just west of Olympia, Washington. As is our habit when we drive, we began to talk about things that are important to us. This day we were discussing the New Year - goals, resolutions and plans. Because the previous year had been a year of transition for us, we decided to discuss and re-affirm the commitments we had made to God many years ago. What was it we would continue to do with all our hearts and minds and souls? What would we pour our lives into this year? Here are some of the affirmations we made to God and to each other for the year: 1. We will continue to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul and strength. 2. We will continue serving Him - our aim is to please Him in all of our ways. 3. We will continue to use (read, study and obey) the Bible as the standard for our lives. 4. We will continue to love and be faithful to each other. 5. We will continue to love and be faithful to our children and grandchildren. 6. We will continue to give our tithes and offerings to the Lord. 7. We will continue to work hard and do the best we can to win people to Christ and help the unfortunate around the world. There were more, but these were the most important to us. How about you? Do you write out your commitments to God? If not, I encourage you to do so. Keep them in your Bible, so they are always before you. Father, we love to do Your will! We love to serve You! Thank You for giving us the grace, the will and power to follow Your ways. In our hearts we say, "Yes Lord, yes!" In Jesus Christ's name, Amen -<>- >"THE WAY WE AFFECT OTHERS" We may not always realize that everything we do, affects not only our lives, but touches others too. A single happy smile can always brighten up the day, for anyone who happens to be passing by your way. And a little bit of thoughtfulness that shows someone you care, creates a ray of sunshine for both of you to share. Yes, every time you offer someone a helping hand, every time you show a friend you understand. Every time you have a kind and gentle word to give, you help someone to find beauty in this precious life we live. For happiness brings happiness and loving ways bring love, and giving is the treasure, that contentment is made of. --Unknown -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment A KAIROS Moment http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/kairosmoment.html Angels Are Watching http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/angelswatching.html Blink Of An Eye http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/eye.html Let's Dance! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/dance.html Typewriter Art http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/typeart.html Animal Moms! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/animalmoms.html Got A Nanosecond? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/nano.html Hoppy The Deer! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/hoppy.html MacGyver - How To Do It 2 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/macgyver2.html Woman's Dream! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/woman.html -<>- >From Our Friend Linda :) Beethoven's Silence By Ernesto Cortazar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGtScuFxm6A --- ...Aww so nice! Police were also en route. Dispatch relayed that the baby was being used to extort money from the mother. On arrival we indeed saw a baby being waved out a window by his feet three stories up. As we ran up the stairs my partner said, "Distract the guy for a minute, I'll get the baby." A crying 5-year-old child opened the door, "He's hurting my brother!" I entered, speaking as calmly as I could. Wild-eyed, the assailant said, "Don't touch me, cop, or I smash the brat." I said, "I'm a firefighter. I only want to check the baby." Suddenly a pair of hands appeared and grabbed the child. From the apartment's kitchen, my driver had gone out the window and reached across to grab the child -- three stories up. WildEyes looked at his now-empty hands, charged past me and escaped. Breathing raggedly, I surveyed a desperately bleak room. One bare bulb, broken furniture, an empty drawer for a crib. My partner came in holding the baby very close to himself, saying over and over, "He's all right. He's all right." We gathered up mother and two other children. Downstairs we met an army of police officers. As we loaded up the family, the officers took the perpetrator's description. With the madman's picture etched into my brain, I described him from top to bottom. After transporting the family to children's hospital, we took another call. When the officers caught the assailant he fought, bruised two officers, and ended up needed stitches. Back at the station, a senior firefighter asked me for every detail. When I finished, he said, "You can't fix the world but you can mend parts of it," and got our shift together. "We have a family to care for," he said. "It's Christmas eve! Most stores are closed," we chorused. The captain replied, "I think this shift could pull it off on Christmas day." No one argued further. Groups went to the grocery, a toy store, and a child care supply store. Between us, we assembled Christmas for a family that needed everything. Next item, the only unpurchased Christmas tree left from our department's tree sale fund-raiser. The crew shortened that poor scraggly thing and trimmed it to a decent shape. A 24-hour pharmacy yielded lights and ornaments. We called the hospital and found the baby's evaluation would take several more hours; the family would be sent home in the morning. At 11:00 p.m. we were finally ready. But back at the apartment building, the apartment door had a double-cylinder jimmy-proof lock. We laddered the apartment, and hauled all the supplies up the ladder. Two different police officers came by with more items. We all agreed that at least for one day, the baby's brother and sister and yes, even his mom, could believe in Santa Claus. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: .----. | \./''\ \. |\ \\===-_____..'\ /.--. \ | \ .--. | | _ \|/ )| `.__`-----._0/.' Their mother Tricia used tags that said "Joy" on one side. When the kids looked over their presents, Ethan left the tree with a pitiful look on his face. For many it's been filled with pain and tears. We've seen our loved ones in their decline. We've had to accept that they won't be fine. Some of us had to say good bye, To a long time loved one, and we've all cried. But there have been times in this past year, That certain events have brought us cheer. There are so many friends that are on the list, And I know there's names I will have missed. But better friends I could not have bought. And here is just a New Year's thought. If it were possible that a wish could come true, Then this is my New Year's wish for you. May the coming year be full of hope, And may we be given the strength to cope. Let courage, faith and patience abound. And let us pray that a cure will be found. And now at the close of another year, My friends, I wish you a Happy New Year.
