They are both talented high school seniors. They both love basketball. They are both captains of their respective high school basketball teams. But on one Saturday night in February, they were forever linked in the minds of all who were present for a mutual act of courage, sportsmanship and respect. The remarkable moment came during a game between Darius's small town Illinois team and Johntel's big city team in Wisconsin -- a game that almost wasn't played. Just hours before tip-off Johntel's mother lost her five-year battle with cervical cancer. Her death was sudden and devastating to all who knew her, and Johntel's coach wanted to cancel the game. But Johntel insisted that the game should be played, and so with heavy hearts his teammates prepared to honor their captain's wishes and to play -- and hopefully win -- without him. What they weren't prepared for was Johntel's appearance in the gym mid-way through the first half. As soon as he saw him, Johntel's coach called a time out, and players and fans surrounded the grieving young man to offer love and support. The coach asked him if he wanted to sit on the bench with the team. "No," Johntel said. "I want to play." Of course his team was thrilled to have him. But because Johntel wasn't on the pre-game roster, putting him in the game at that point would result in a technical foul and two free throws for the opposing team. Johntel's coach was OK with that. He could see that this was the teenager's way of coping with his loss -- the points didn't matter. The opposing team understood the situation and told the referees to let Johntel play and to forget the technical foul. The referees argued that a rule is a rule, and the free throws would have to be taken before the game could proceed. For possibly the first time in basketball history, officials had to force a team to accept and take the technical free throws. As team captain, Darius volunteered to take the shots. One would have expected he was looking for an opportunity to keep his team close in a hard-fought game against a big city school. Or one could even assume he wanted a chance to add a couple of points to his personal statistics. In either case, one would be wrong. Darius took the ball from the official, looked at the basket and calmly shot the ball. Now, basketball purists know that the free throw line is 15 feet from the basket. Darius's first shot only traveled about 4 feet. His second shot only traveled 2. Immediately Johntel and his teammates understood what Darius was doing. They stood and applauded the gesture of sportsmanship as Darius made his way back to his bench. So did all of the big city fans. "I did it for the guy who lost his mom," Darius told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the game. "It was the right thing to do." For those who are concerned about such things, Johntel's team rode the emotion of the night to a 15-point victory. But as the two teams met after the game for pizza and sodas, nobody on either side was too concerned with wins or losses or personal stats. "This is something our kids will hold for a lifetime," Darius's coach said. "They may not remember our record 20 years from now, but they'll remember what happened in that gym that night." Those were simpler days when he could take a walk like everyone else. One evening Truman decided to stroll to Memorial Bridge on the Potomac. While there, he grew curious about the mechanism that raised the middle span of the bridge. Making his way across the catwalks and through the inner workings of the bridge, he suddenly came upon the bridge tender, eating his supper out of a tin bucket. "The man showed no surprise when he looked up and saw the most powerful man in the world. He just swallowed his food, wiped his mouth, smiled, and said, 'You know, Mr. President, I was just thinking of you.' It was a greeting Truman never forgot."2 President Truman's experience reminds us of the poem, "If Jesus Came to Your House." A poem that I read many years ago and found a copy on the web. It would be more applicable for me if it were, "If Jesus Came to My House." "If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two / If he came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do. / Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored Guest, / And all the food you'd serve to Him would be the very best, / And you’d keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there / That serving Him in your own home is joy beyond compare. "But when you saw Him coming, would you meet Him at the door / With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly Visitor? / Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in? / Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they'd been? / Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard? / And wish you hadn't uttered that last, loud, hasty word? "Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out? / Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about? / And I wonder if the Savior spent a day or two with you, / Would you go right on doing the things you always do? / Would you go right on saying the things you always say? / Would life for you continue as it does from day to day? / Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace? / And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace? / Would you sing the songs you always sing, / and read the books you read, / And let him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed? / Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you'd planned to go? / Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so? "Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends? / Or would you hope they'd stay away until His visit ends? / Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on? / Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone? / It might be interesting to know the things that you would do? / If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time with you."3 It would be very interesting if Jesus did come in person to your house and mine. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me to so live that should Jesus turn up in my house in person, there would be nothing that I would be embarrassed or shamed about. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus's name, amen." 1. Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV). 2. "On their flights between earth and the moon, it was said, the Apollo ships were off course much of the time. In each instance, the spacecraft would wander off its path and the crew would correct--wander off and correct, again and again. And do you now what? It didn't matter. What mattered were the results. They got to the moon. They got home. They did it by having the discipline and knowledge to get themselves back on course. They followed not a perfect path, but a critical path." Whether we're shooting for the moon, seeking to achieve a better personal or family life, or seeking to obey and serve God, whatever our goals, the principle is the same. There are always unpredictable and unexpected events that call for change and adjustment. Although the astronauts had to be precise in their calculations, they still allowed for mistakes and corrections. The person who doesn't allow for such adjustments will probably not reach his or her goals. As Garfield, the cartoon cat, said, the critical path is the way to reach any target. For the Christian, our goal is to obey and serve God and to go on to maturity. We will stumble at times, make mistakes, fail, and hit many a bump in the road. When we fall, however, the important thing is to get up, correct our course and go on. This is the critical path for us. And as one author reminds us, The bumps are what we climb on! Suggested prayer: "Dear God, every day I commit and trust my life and way to you and commit my life to serving you. Thank you that you are always with me to guide and direct my life and correct any wrong or harmful turns that I might make--to keep me on target with the goals and purpose you have for my life. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen." 1. "A hind is a mother deer -- it is one of the most sure-footed animals in the world. When she is going up the side of a mountain with her young following her, she takes her back feet and places them exactly where her front feet were first placed to test for loose stones on the slope. If she did not test the rocky incline with her front feet, the loose stones would cause her to slip and fall down into the ravine below. This exact tracking means life and safety both to the hind and to her young." It is amazing to me to think of an animal with a hoof going up the side of a rock cliff. This boggles my mind how they are able to do this - yet, that is how. Carefully - making sure each step is precisely safe and perfect. The law, simply stated, is that what we believe for or expect, we get. This applies in every realm: physical, mental, material, spiritual. Thus it is this law which basically controls the abundant life. Only if we believe and expect abundance will we ever realize abundance in our lives. "The Synchronized Life" shows that our lives are molded by our believing - both by positive and negative believing. This law is further explained and proved in "The Law of Believing" so that we will become aware of our own thinking and then be able to control our thinking so as to manifest the abundant life which is promised in God's Word. Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."1 Many years ago Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889-1929) said: "While sitting on the bank of a river one day, I picked up a solid round stone from the water and broke it open. It was perfectly dry in spite of the fact that it had been immersed in water for centuries. The same is true of many people in the Western world. For centuries they have been surrounded by Christianity; they live immersed in the waters of its benefits. And yet it has not penetrated their hearts; they do not love it. The fault is not in Christianity, but in men's hearts, which have been hardened by materialism and intellectualism." Intellectualism (this does not mean being intellectual) can be and often is a defense against facing one's reality, and used as a means to rationalize the belief system we want and choose to believe. If we intellectualize or rationalize away God, then we can deceive ourselves into believing that we are ultimately only responsible to ourselves. In so doing we harden our hearts against truth and reality. Materialism is often a symptom of buried emotions, especially the emotion of wonder. Instead of finding fulfillment in the wonder and beauty of creation and nature, we get wrapped up in "things". As the saying goes, instead of loving people and using things, we end up unhappily loving things and using people. This is another way to harden our hearts and a very unhealthy and self-defeating way to live. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me to be totally honest with myself and with You, and learn how to enjoy the beauty of Your creation and the simple things of life, and therein protect my heart from becoming hardened. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus’s name, amen." 1. Jesus (Luke 12:15, NIV). There are two aspects that need elaborating on in this teaching. The first is intelligence. Often liberals and progressives will talk about how unintelligent a Christian is - like Obama making fun of them by referencing their 'Guns and Bibles' as some sort of joke. Or like when VP Pence was put in charge of The Covid-19 task force, many huffed and puffed that he was not fit for the job because they thought since he is a strong Christian, that he lacked the science know-how and ability to do this job. ,---,_ , _> `'-. .--'/ .--'` ._ `/ <_ >,-' ._'.. ..__ . Far from it. Unfortunately, in the rancorous debates in this country over the role of religion in our public life, all too often it is simply assumed — by both sides — that religious faith is in conflict with reason (and intelligence). The unspoken assumption is that religion relies exclusively on faith, while science alone is supported by reason. This idea is utterly mistaken, but because it mostly goes unchallenged, it reinforces the stereotype that atheists are somehow smarter than believers. One way to combat the erroneous assumption that faith conflicts with reason is by giving greater visibility to living, breathing believers who are also highly intelligent. That is what we are endeavoring to do with this list of The 50 Smartest People of Faith." Overall, 72.5% of all the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, 65.3% in Physics, 62% in Medicine, and 54% in Economics were either Christians or had a Christian background." https://tinyurl.com/yddxw4op So, as usual, actions tell the story. Christians are among the most intelligent in science and technology - not the least as the left would have you believe. The second part that strikes home is the materialism. Another thing people think is that Christians are supposed to be poor and if they are not, that they are somehow not being a good Christian. Which again is not founded in truth. First off, materialism is a nasty thing as was pointed out. It goes into greed. By Lisa Russell Motley Seven years ago I was faced with the difficult choice of leaving my safe, comfortable career as a paralegal to take a job as a teacher's assistant in my children's elementary school. While ten years as a real-estate paralegal had proven to be reliable and prosperous, my husband and I decided that a change had to be made for the good of our family. We were both being stretched too thin, our sons were getting just "what was left of us" at the end of the day, and you can only eat so many meals from a fast-food bag! After much discussion and prayer, some friends of mine at church opened a window of opportunity. Both of them just happened to be employed by the local elementary school and one of them, a teacher, needed an assistant. The other was a guidance counselor who helped me "get my foot in the door." A job as a teacher assistant is hard to come by in our area, so Scott and I felt that God was leading us in this direction. I would still be able to "bring home some of the bacon" - even if it was just bacon bits! And at the same time, have the same schedule as our children. What amazes me, though, is two questions that still get asked of me. The first question being, "Why?" Why would I go from a nice office, with adult conversation, doing what I had gone to school to do, while making a nice income? To work in the public school system, dealing with their perception of children (screaming, whining, cuts and bruises, upset stomachs and head lice), while only bringing home meager wages? My answer to the majority was then and still is today just this: "Where else can you help shape the lives of tomorrow, get hugs for a job well done, be home when your own children are home, and get paid for doing it?" By the way, when I went to my parents seven years ago with this decision I was concerned. Here were two people who had spent their hard-earned money to put me through school so that I would have a good education and be able to be independent. Now I was asking them, "Is it okay with you if I toss my degree aside, and take a cut in pay, so that I can be home with my children more?" Their answer was "We didn't send you to school just to get a degree. We sent you to help you become a well-rounded person so that you could become a happy adult with options. Do what makes you happy!" The other question that is often asked is "Do you have any regrets?" I have to weigh in my mind the following: On one side of the scale, I am sitting down with the checkbook sometimes juggling monthly bills. Waiting on payday to be able to make an "extra" purchase. And a "night out" may consist of only a rented video and ordering pizza. However, the other side of this situation is seeing a child's eyes light up when they can finally read that book or do that math problem. Being at home in the afternoons to help my own children with their homework. Having a sit-down dinner most every night with my family. Having two weeks in December with my family decorating, baking and making holiday preparations - not to mention making memories. Nice, leisurely summer days with my children, reading, playing ball and splashing in the pool with their laughter as my music. So my answer to "Do you have any regrets?" is a resounding "Absolutely not!" --- ...Reminds me of my time as a Senior in high school. I took the job opportunity given me to work as a Teacher's Aide for a 1st grade teacher. It was in the morning when I normally had boring school - so absolutely yes! I got paid 75 cents an hour. That was not much of anything, less than $15 a week, but I loved the kids and how sweet, innocent and adorable they all were. The hard part was waking up early - I am not an early bird - and making the extra walk (a little over 2 miles) to get to the other school for work. I'd often call in sick (sick of the weather :) when it was especially freezing cold or snowing or raining. Would I do it again? For the kids - for sure! For the money - no way! :) -<>- ________ / ______ \ || _ _ || ||| || ||| |||_||_||| || _ _o|| (o) ||| || ||| |||_||_||| ^~^ , ||______|| ('Y') ) /__________\ / \/ ________|__________|__ (\|||/) _________ hjw /____________\ `97 |____________| >BELIEVING IN A NEW ROOM (c) By Dan Britt Seeing a great performance inspires me to no end. I'm moved by others' dreams and by their devotion and courage in the pursuit of excellence. I get choked up when I see a kid, or anyone else, fighting hopeless odds - someone who goes out there to run the lonely roads with a dream in the heart, a gleam in the eye, and a goal in mind. I admire those who have the courage to step up to the line of a great race to run their heart out for a dream. - from Racing the Antelope, by Bernd Heinrich A person with no arms becomes an excellent painter; A one-legged man becomes a fine springboard diver; a blind person excels at running marathons and bouncing on the trampoline; a person with cerebral palsy graduates from a top percussion school; a person who stammers becomes a well-known public speaker, and the list goes on. Marla Runyan, who is legally blind, earned 5th place in the 26.2 mile NYC marathon, and said, "I think what I represent is achieving what you want in life. It's a matter of attitude. Some people have a negative attitude, and that's their disability." Another marathon finisher with cerebral palsy said, "Cerebral palsy has been a disability, but it has also been a motivating force in my running. I am thankful for every step I can take." Unbelievable, isn't it? Well, that's exactly what most thought before such feats we're accomplished: Not conceivable, believable, nor achievable. They also believed (and thought they knew) that the world was flat, but is it now? One of the major forces behind these remarkable achievements is beliefs. Beliefs can be the reason for embarking rather than excusing; questing rather quitting; and, ultimately, reaching rather than regretting. Take for instance this story of a weightlifter: He was asked to lift 300 pounds. He lifted it. He was then asked to lift 310 pounds. He did not lift it. Then someone asked him to lift 300 pounds again, only it was not 300 pounds! It was 310! He believed it was 300. He lifted 310! Don't you think this weightlifter might consider elevating his "belief standard" after being told it was really 310!? Beliefs allow us to raise the bar, (no pun intended!), as they can lift our focus to a higher place. The point is not necessarily that we should run a marathon or lift this much weight, but rather that we have the option to take at least one step further in a direction that we otherwise might not have planned. Beliefs determine how we act; Beliefs grant us opportunities to get closer to where we want to be. It's up to you to choose whether you assign beliefs to lock doors or open them. '. '.,.' `'`' >Special Sauce. Wait on Your Blessing I was sitting at the drive-through window at McDonald's this weekend. I did the usual thing; I drove up to the menu and ordered. I proceeded to the first window and paid, then drove to the second window and waited for the order. After sitting there for a few minutes, the clerk slid back the window and asked, "Will you please pull over to the side; your order is not ready." "I was a little upset and even impatient, but I pulled over and waited. I thought, "How come other folks ordered and drove straight through and I have to wait." I waited for another two or three minutes. It seemed like hours. Just as I was about to give up and drive away, the clerk finally ran out, tapped on the window, and handed me the order. Of course I asked, "Hey, what took so long?" She replied, "You wanted the Special Sauce, which meant it had to be especially made for that sandwich, it doesn't usually come with that one." This scene is a reflection of our prayer life. We make our request to the Lord. Our menu is His Word, where He has listed promise after promise. We stand before Him and request and plead and, sometimes, even beg. We go to the first window and pay, sometimes with fervent prayer, sometimes with prolonged suffering, sometimes with obedience, and sometimes not at all. We then move to the second window and wait for our order. If God doesn't answer within a few minutes, we become upset. You know the phrase, "God, it's 5:00 p.m. Friday; I prayed to You yesterday, and You still haven't answered. I can't wait much longer." Why is it taking Him so long? I've seen people drive up before me and they received their orders right away! We even go so far as to tap on the window and ask if He has forgotten our order. We become impatient. We become upset. We become downright mad. Lord I asked for a mate ten days ago and I don't see him/her anywhere. Lord, I've been asking for a new job for two years; others have passed me by. I've been waiting on a financial blessing for ten years and I still have more months than money. Where are You and why haven't you blessed me? And just when you think He is giving you the answer, He pulls back the royal curtain of Eternity, and states, "Please pull over to the side and wait a while longer." This once frustrated me to no end, made me mad, made me want to give up, made me want to holler; that is, until the clerk brought out my sandwich. Then, the revelation became clear. Do you know why the Lord has put you on the side? Do you know why you have had to wait for this blessing longer than before? Do you know why He has put you through more this time than ever? Do you know why it seems as though He has not heard you and He does not care? Do you know why it seems like you have had to go through more tears, more pains, and more struggling this time? Because this blessing is a Special Sauce Blessing! This is an Overflowing, Pressed-Down, Shaken Together, Blessing! You made a Special Order and God has been putting together a Special Sauce Blessing for you and He has to prepare it for you! That man you want . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That job you want . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That financial blessing . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That peace on the job . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That house . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That deeper anointing . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That promotion . . .He's putting together a Special Sauce! That (whatever...you fill in the blank)...He's putting together a Special Sauce! For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end . . . [And a Special Sauce]. Jeremiah 29:11 How many people have driven away before the clerk brought their food, and how many people have missed their blessings because they did not wait? Hang in there. Keep on waiting. You made a Special Order, now wait on God's Special Sauce! "But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) They who wait shall receive a Special Sauce! -<>- ) ( /( \yYYy,_I_`; JgLFO^JL_ \ `- \, ` Qr+as ` >ANOTHER KIND OF RESCUE I sometimes envy my wife, Sylvia, who volunteers on the local Rescue Squad where we live up in the mountains of western North Carolina. She's an EMT. Yesterday her Rescue Pager went off just after we finished a three-mile walk. This call involved a thirteen- year-old boy having seizures, possibly caused from complications stemming from cerebral palsy. Though I'm not an EMT, the paramedics generally don't mind if I help them lift a patient onto a stretcher. However, upon arriving at the scene I noticed there were so many rescue workers that I wouldn't have been able to have gotten inside the house, even if they had needed me. It was at that moment, that I noticed two little girls with blonde hair sitting on the cement porch outside. I wondered what this must look like to them. The boy inside with the seizures was probably their brother and they had probably seen his body writhing and twitching. What must they have thought? And to top off this shock, their driveway, lawn, and neighborhood were filled with police cars, fire trucks and two ambulances, not to mention several other rescue vehicles as well. If you could have seen them, you would have to agree with me; they looked like they might be needing a little company. It's sometimes hard to know just how to start up a conversation with children, but these two little dolls were ready. All I had to do was ask them, "What's yer kitty's name?" I was ready to tell them about my cat Dusty, but once I asked that first question, I hardly got a word in edgewise for the rest of our 'conversation'. They both lit into this little visit like tag-team wrestlers. When one was out of breath, the other picked up with the story. The girls, Cindy age-10 and Christy age-5 answered my question in unison, "her name's Tabitha." Christy continued, "She jest showed up on are porch one day and we fed her mehck " And jumping in at that point, Cindy added, "Shay wawdn't go away after that " "They's othuh cats what comes around and plays with huh sometimes," chimed in Christy. "Yeah, one big ole black cat with his beady eyes was a sittin' over in that tree yonder one night when I looked out my wender. An I was sort uh scairt " put in Cindy. While the rescue workers did their job inside with the girls' brother, I listened to all sorts of cat tales, some true, and some added to. These girls were quite the storytellers. They continued with stories of other pets, then mentioned their other three sisters and their brother who had had a seizure or two before. As we sat there petting their orange-striped cat, Tabitha, the minutes flew by. Finally the paramedics were ready to go. My wife came out of the house and asked the girls if that was their brother. They said, "Yes, that's Tommy He gonna be all right?" "Well, I guess so, because there goes the ambulance, and he isn't on it," my wife replied. As Sylvia headed to our car, I told the girls good-bye. I encouraged them to take good care of Tabitha, and their brother Tommy. I'll always remember talking to those two little gals. I learned a lot, a lot about Tabitha, yes, but I also learned that sometimes you don't have to be a rescue worker to help someone. And sometimes it isn't so much what you say that makes the difference. Sometimes it's how you listen that counts. - Ron Reese -<>- ,''@, |.~.| : - : \-/ .-|\_/)-. / | Y -- \ / /\o /\ \ \ \_|___|_/ / \_/ \_/ | _ | | | | ( | ) | | | Sher^ | | | |__|__| (__|__) >An Affair to Remember By Linda Mitchell We met in January of 1995. Although I was 54 years old and he was young enough to be my son, we were to spend many hours together under the most intimate circumstances. His room was cold and sparse with one huge bed that was hard as a rock, but with a lovely skylight that changed colors as the photo equipment he used circled the room. He often left me alone in the room, but I knew he was always close and watching me from his vantage point. This is not the beginning of a love story but the tale of young Dr. Wollman, my radiologist. After breast surgery he became my best friend. On our first visit he informed me that seven weeks of fun was about to begin. He explained in layman's terms what to expect and showed me the room and the equipment that would be used to radiate my left breast. The first visit is the longest, at least 45 minutes of immobility while the machine is set and the target spots are put on your body - my first and last tattoo, by the way. After the first two weeks of radiation, which was five days a week for a grand total of four minutes a day, the radiated area takes on a look of intense sunburn. Not only that, but the breast that is being treated goes from a size B cup to a size C or better. Wearing a bra is out of the question and the heat that radiates from the treatment area is unbelievable. It is amazing the thoughts that go through your mind while looking at the skylight and waiting for the treatment to be over. One comes to know the caregivers as well as their families. My Dr. Wollman and his staff were there to boost my morale whenever they thought I was down. I think I even boosted theirs from time to time. They might not have known it, but the hug they gave me whenever I walked in for treatment made it worth the discomfort and panic that I experienced each time. During those seven weeks, I prayed, told jokes and meditated. When the time came to "graduate," as we call it, I cried as I bid my new family good-bye. However, I still see the dear doctor, and there is always that big smile and the warm hug that lit up my life for seven weeks. I shall never forget these caregivers and hope that every cancer patient that needs to go through radiation/chemotherapy is as lucky as I am. One is fearful at first because of the unknown; however, with the right attitude and doctor, it can almost be a cherished memory. I had my first mammogram in October and everything is fine. It is important that we as women know our own bodies and if in doubt with one diagnosis, get a second or third if necessary. Had my new doctor not insisted that the small cyst come out, I would have ignored it. I will continue to live life to the fullest and be here the same time next year and the years after that. After all, there are many sunsets to watch and much love to give. My hope is that for all of you there is a Dr. Wollman and your affair can be one to remember with fondness and no regrets. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment: Last Day! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lastday.html Jesus Clinic! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/clinic.html Dog Days Of Summer! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/dogdays.html Koala's In A Heatwave! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/koalas.html Ricochet The Surf Dog! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/ricochet.html Old US City Photos http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/uscities.html Watermelon Art 2 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/watermelon2.html Scott Weaver Toothpick Art! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/toothpick.html Auto MotorPlex! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/automotorplex.html Scientists Unveil New Species! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/newspecies.html Chalk Art 7 http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/chalkart7.html 90/20 Principle! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/giving.html0 Butchart Gardens! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bgardens.html Angel Wing Decoys! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/angel.html Playing With Words! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/wordplay.html God's Little Love Notes! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/notes.html Attitude Is Everything 4! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/attitude4.html Bible: Stretching For The Lord! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/stretching.html Bible: God's Royal And Holy Priests! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/royalpriests.html Bible: You Are The Only You God Has! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/onlyyougodhas.html Summer Index! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/summerindex.html -<>- From Our Friends at CES: Free Bible Videos http://www.youtube.com/truthortradition Latest Christian Life Daily: https://www.christianlifedaily.com/ This dummy knows his stuff Before you watch it, do you know the answer to the question "What is the Third Amendment? Widow. The word strikes a cold dagger into any woman's heart, but, especially if she is in her forties and raising two pre-teen children. Fran's husband had died of cancer, leaving her with mountains of debt, no life insurance, no savings. She was in that abyss of shock and disbelief which joins arms with grief, oblivious to the physical condition of her surroundings. Projects aborted by illness remained unfinished. Tools had been left on a workbench, purchased supplies were bundled in their hardware store wrappings, and paint cans were neatly lined up against a cellar wall. In addition to partially completed repairs and revamping inside, the outside of the house had become a victim of the cruel winter weather, faded and neglected, the way Fran's heart felt when faced with the seemingly insurmountable tasks left for her. Winter mercifully ended and the spring thaw nudged her to acknowledge the need for repainting the house. There were several ads for house painters in the classified section of the local newspaper, but, when called, the quoted prices were beyond belief. After all, her spouse had done all construction and repairs. Never was there a need to hire someone else. She was in a quandary: very little money and a great need for the house to be painted. It wouldn't survive another year without protection. The last man contacted on the list of advertised numbers was quiet and polite. He came to the house to assess the job and assured Fran it could be done in a reasonable time frame. Normally a private person, Fran told the painter during the conversation about her situation. He didn't say much, walking around the perimeter of the house and staring at the two story building. There was a lengthy pause when asked the estimate for the job, and his answer astounded the widow: "There will be no charge." The explanation given was that the painter's best friend had died several years before and, as a gift to the widow, he had painted the house for free. Since that time whenever a needy person was discovered, he and his crew painted one house a year at no charge to the recipient. As he told Fran, "This year you are 'it'." Ever the streetwise consumer, Fran refused to believe the ludicrous offer. Thinking it was a scam, she needed input to shore up her conviction that no one in his right mind would paint an entire house and not charge a nickel. Knowing what the going rate was for the week long project, she was certain it wasn't possible. Offers like this didn't occur in a little town in New England. She was finally convinced to trust the painter's word and accepted the gift. The following week a crew in two trucks showed up early on a Monday morning and began to strip the sides of the house. They returned each day, setting up their ladders, paintbrushes in hand, working at the job until it was complete. There was never a charge. The house stands proud in its new coat, withstanding the wind and rain. Fran thought she was left alone during tough times, but God didn't abandon her. He knew that her children needed her, so He sent along the right man for the job. Fran's trust was renewed and, for the first time, was given the glimmer of hope that she would withstand the buffeting winds of her new life as a single parent. She had been blessed with God's promise that she would make the long, difficult journey to the other side of the chasm of her struggle. The first step had been taken with the stroke of a brush. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A single mother who lost her job because of the coronavirus pandemic and couldn’t pay her bills donated money she won on a lottery ticket to a police officer who had been shot, according to KFVS-TV. According to KFVS, Shetara Sims of Kansas City, Mo., had only $7. After her act of kindness, the police started a GoFundMe and have raised more than $100,000 for her. The station reported that Sims found $1 in a grocery store parking lot and used it to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket, winning $100. Sims and her daughter, 12, decided to donate the money to help a Kansas City police officer who is in the intensive care unit of a hospital after being shot while on duty on July 2. According to KFVS, Sims’s oldest daughter was murdered in Kansas City in 2012. She said the police department and detectives “were really there for us. They were there for us more than anyone I can imagine. They did things they didn’t have to do. They came to see my kids. They did a lot. They were fathers, therapists, they were everything.” Police said they were so touched by her gift that they started a GoFundMe for Sims, raising $100,000 so far. https://tinyurl.com/y5twlzng -<>- __ /\/'-, ,--''''' /" ____,'. ) \___ '"""""------'"""`-----' pb >Off-duty Syracuse cop saves 2 dogs from burning home By Catie O'Toole Syracuse Media Group, N.Y. CICERO, N.Y. — Syracuse Police Officer James Nowodworski was on his way to work Thursday afternoon when he saw heavy smoke billowing from a Cicero home. Nowodworski stopped at 5384 Guy Young Road and heard dogs barking inside at 2:12 p.m., state police said. He tried several times to see if anyone was inside, but when no one answered he entered and started searching the home, troopers said. That’s when Nowodworski found two dogs and rescued them, state police said. State police, Cicero police, Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies, and Brewerton, Central Square, Clay, Caughdenoy, Cicero, South Bay and West Monroe volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the garage area, state police said. No one was injured in the fire. Nowodworski was sworn in as a Syracuse police officer in July 2018, records show. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
