I was thinking they simply cut the hair off the camel and then weaved it into art work like how rugs or blankets are made. At first I thought these WERE rugs or blankets on the camel. So It surprised me that they would actually cut and dye it directly on the animal. I mean really - up to three years and it all just grows out anyway! It amazes me! Just me I guess. A turkey farmer found him and brought him back to his farm to see if the little bird could survive by bonding with the birds there. The eagle had done quite well, growing to powerful, handsome maturity. But there's a problem: the eagle has been living and acting and -- one can only assume -- thinking like a turkey for so long that he seems to believe that he IS one. According to the news story, the turkey farmer has been trying to teach the eagle to fly, but the majestic bird has been groveling for grain with the turkeys for so long he can't seem to grasp the concept. I've been thinking about that eagle lately -- a magnificent creature that has the potential to soar with... well, with eagles. But he's grounded just as surely as if his wings had been clipped because experience has taught him to focus his attention on the ground rather than the heavens. Of course, he's a bird. We humans would never allow ourselves to fall in to such a trap. Would we? A colleague was complaining about the explicit pictures that were coming into her home while watching a highly publicized "reality-based" program. "It's disgusting," she said. "Why do they have to go into such graphic detail?" "I thought this show was known for that sort of thing," I said. "What did you expect?" "I expect them to remember that there are children out there," she said. "I had to send my kids to their rooms." "Why don't you just turn the TV off," I wondered, "or change the channel?" "Are you kidding?" she replied. "This was the season finale! I couldn't miss that!" So it's come to this: voyeurism as must-see TV, with pseudo-documentaries and tawdry game shows parting closed curtains and inviting curious gawkers to see and hear what they've never seen or heard before -- whether or not it's any of their business. In a way, television is like that eagle. It is an incredible medium, capable of soaring to wondrous heights. That's why it's so frustrating when it expends so much energy on turkey stuff. But television isn't solely responsible for this trend toward indiscretion. My experience with the medium (including six years as a newspaper's television critic) leads me to believe that TV's decision- makers only give the public what they think it wishes to see. Unfortunately, they rarely underestimate the moral depths to which large numbers of television viewers are willing to sink. How else do you explain Jerry Springer, Howard Stern and "Blind Date"? Which, come to think of it, makes us a little like that eagle, too -- doesn't it? The more we devour the studied mindlessness and exploitation television feeds us, the less likely TV will be to invest the creative energy required to produce programs that help our minds expand and our souls soar. It's up to us to demand excellence from television through our viewing habits or else the quality options will disappear entirely, replaced by a steady diet of soap operas, leering talk shows and sensationalized perspectives on reality. Then it really will be turkey television. And maybe that will be enough to finally make us reach for the "off" switch. -- Joseph Walker ___________________________________________ Joseph Walker is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, and a Heartwarmer Gem. Everyone passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink dress, barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by. She never tried to speak, she never said a word. Many people passed but no one would stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the little girl would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot as she was yesterday, and still with the sad look in her eyes. Today I was to make my own move and walked over to the little girl. For as we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone. As I go closer I could see the little girl's dress was obscenely shaped. I figured that was the reason people just passed by and made no effort to help. Deformities are a low blow to our society and, heaven forbid if you make a step toward assisting someone who is different. As I got closer, the little girl lowered her eyes slightly to avoid my intent stare. As I approached her, I could see the obscene shape of her back more clearly. She was grotesquely shaped in a humped-over form. I smiled to let her know it was OK. I was there to help, to talk. I sat down beside her and opened with a simple, "Hello." The little girl acted shocked, and stammered a "hi," after a long stare into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty I asked the girl why she was so sad. The little girl looked at me and with a sad face said, "Because I'm different." I immediately said, "That you are!" and smiled. The little girl acted even sadder and said, "I know." "Little girl," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent." She looked at me and smiled. Slowly she got to her feet and said, "really?" "Yes, you're like a little Guardian Angel sent to watch over all those people walking by." "She nodded her head yes, and smiled. With that she spread her wings and said, "I am. I'm your Guardian Angel," with a twinkle in her eye. I was speechless, sure I was seeing things. She said, "For once you thought of someone other than yourself. My job here is done. "I got to me feet and said, "Wait. So why did no one stop to help an angel?" She looked at me and smiled, "You're the only one that could see me," and then she was gone. And with that, my life changed dramatically. So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you. Like the story says, we all need someone. Every one of your best friends is an Angel in their own way. The value of a friend is measured in the heart. -<>- _ \'. \ '-._...- | _.-' . \ / ' ' .. / \_ ooo ' . . \ '-.__ o 'oo<. . ' \ '--._ ooooo. It suggests that along with reading the Word, meditation, prayer and trust, you need to learn about that missing peace. And you need to learn about it in the church environment. Peace can be contagious. We learn much about the peace of God by fellowship with others who know the Prince of Peace. Peace also come from obedience--by knowing you're in God's will and surrendering to Him. Philippians 4:9 says, 'Those things which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God peace shall be with you.' That's an important biblical message. 'Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace' (Psalm 37:37). Many people haven't associated peace with obedience, but the Bible is clear: 'Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them' (Psalm 119:165). In fact, when I counsel a fretful soul, I usually ask, 'Is there something you are doing that is not in harmony with God's will?' Often they will admit to being disobedient in some area. Would you want your children to be at peace if they were disobeying you? Likewise, God loves you too much to let you have peace when you are disobeying your conscience and His will." (Love plays a big part here. Jesus said,'If you love me you will keep my commandments.') Jonah is a great example of this--running west when God said go east. He soon found himself in the storm, having lost his peace when he went directly against the will of God. The Bible is full of similar stories that remind us of this principle. 'The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever' (Isaiah 32:17)" Taken from Doug Batchelor's book "The Last Elijah Message" (Heaventus...07/02/04) -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment Our Gifts And Callings http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/giftscallings.html God's Royal And Holy Priests http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/royalpriests.html Straying From The Light http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/BibleStudy/straying.html Awesome Grass Roof School! http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/gschool.html Awesome Photos http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/awesome.html Awesome Bridge http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/awesomebridge.html Big Boy Toys http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/bigboytoys.html Salvation Mountain http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/salvation.html DOES GOD CHOOSE HIS CHILDREN? http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/choosehischildren.html Don't Quit http://www.inspiredbuffalo.com/buffalo/dontquit.html ONE DAY http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/poems/oneday.html Boeing 787 Dreamliner http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/b787.html -<>- >From Our Friend Bunni :) I wanted to share this with everyone. In ASB, participants travel someplace during spring break to do volunteer work. Education is a primary focus of ASB; before break we learn about the issue we will volunteer with. I spent that spring break in Atlanta working with AIDS patients. My group helped Project Open Hand prepare and deliver meals to homebound patients. We also helped one day in a daycare for children affected by the virus. (Either they had AIDS, or their caregiver did, or both.) On the third day, Wednesday, three of my group members and I piled into the van to deliver coolers of food. Several meal recipients lived in high rises and some had specific instructions for delivery: leave food in cooler next to door, knock loudly, and similar. One client had no cooler outside because someone had been stealing his food. There was a note next to his name to leave the food with his neighbor. "He must have just stepped out because I just saw him," the neighbor told us. We wanted to leave a note on his door so he would know his food was waiting next door, but we lacked pen and paper. We went down to the building lobby to find what we needed. We had just finished writing the note and borrowing a piece of tape when I heard a voice behind me ask "Have you already been upstairs?" I turned and saw a frail-looking black man, very thin with hollow cheeks. He gestured to our large red cooler bags. "Are you Paul?" one of my friends asked. "Yes, that's me," he answered. We told him we left the food with his neighbor. He thanked us and then said, "Don't forget to smile, your smiles make the world a better place." Even now I feel a shiver run down my spine and tears well up in my eyes at the thought of Paul. You could tell by looking at his body that he was sick, but when you looked at his face you saw no fear, anger or pain. There was a wonderful shine in his eyes and a broad smile on his face. Paul was sick, sick enough that he needed to have his food prepared and delivered to him, but he didn't let that get him down. I went down to Atlanta to help people, but I never expected one of them to help me. Now whenever I face a tough situation I think of Paul and his undefeatable attitude. If he can look death in the eye and smile -- then surely I can get through less difficult situations. I knew that my ASB experience was going to change my outlook on life, but I am surprised that I can sum it all up in one sentence. Don't forget to smile, your smiles make the world a better place. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: >FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY . , |`. ,'| \_`-._ _,-'_/ ./ \-._`-._ _,-'_,-/ \, \._/._ `._>`-.__ __,-'<_,' _,\_,/ /_ \_.`-._\_-._ `--__ __--' _,-_/_,-',_/ _\ /._`\_./ _`_./`.-._ `-. ,-' _,-,'\,_'_ \,_/'_,\ \._`/ _/ _`_./ _/`\_ `. ,' _/'\_ \,_'_ \_ \'_,/ /._`/ _/ _`_./` _/ `\_ `\_ _/' _/' \_ '\,_'_ \_ \'_,\ \._`/ _/ _`_./` __/ >. `-.,-' ,< \__ '\,_'_ \_ \'_,/ /_`/._/._`_./` __.`.-\_.-`'-._/-,',__ '\,_'_,\_,\'_\ `\._`_./`\._/_/' _ `\_\_,/'\,_'_,/' /_\ \./ __/(__ / `--' \ / _ _ \ \'| |`/ \|____|/ \/ -] \/ / | \ | | | | | \ / | \ \__,-`\___/ (_) |__) mic Tyler, 5, attempted to fly.
