Being hungry, I stopped at a McDonalds and ordered a breakfast meal. Because I had driven almost thirty hours, I decided to stay over for a few days and rest. After I ate, I checked into a local motel, bathed, went to bed and slept for almost twenty-four hours. The next morning I walked across the street and asked the bait shop owner where the nearest fishing hole was located. After getting a detailed map, I purchased a three day fishing license, bait and headed to the lake. Opening my trunk, I carefully took out my fishing gear, ice-chest, chair and tackle box. I put them on the lake's edge, baited up and began to fish. Within an hour the sun became rather hot and the air humid. I took a rag, dipped it in the water and placed it over my head to try and cool down. "Good morning," said someone, walking up from behind me. When I turned around, I saw a Game Warden with a clip-board. "Good morning," I said, as I nodded my head. "Catch any fish?" he asked. "No sir, just relaxing and wasting a little time." "Can I see your fishing license?" I reached in my shirt pocket and handed him the three day license I had purchased at the bait shop. "Can I see you driver's license also," he requested. "I see the name on the driver's license is spelled Kiser and the name on the fishing license is spelled Kaiser," said the warden. "The gentleman at the bait shop must have written it wrong," I told him. "Well, I am afraid I am going to have to write you up for fishing with an invalid license and I am going to have to confiscate your fishing gear." "You've got to be kidding," I told him, with a surprised look on my face. Sure enough I was written up and all three of my fishing rods and tackle box were taken and placed in his truck. I was told that I would have to pay a fine and that my fishing gear would be sold at auction. I stood there almost in tears as he drove away. Those rods and reels were very special to me. They had been used to teach my children to fish. They had been used, for more than twenty years, fishing with all my friends, and relatives, who were now all dead. All my memories of fishing the California Delta were held in those three fishing poles and tackle box. After returning to my home in Georgia, I telephoned South Carolina trying to explain the situation, but no one would listen. I was told that the Department of Fish and Game had a "zero tolerance" for fishing and hunting violations. Finally, in tears I paid the fine and gave up the fight. About nine months later, I received a letter in the mail. I have no idea who it was from as there was no return address. On a plain piece of notebook paper read "Auction for the Department of Fish and Game held this Saturday at 11am." On Saturday, at six in the morning I drove out onto Interstate 95 headed to South Carolina. By ten o'clock I had found the auction. As I looked around there were hundreds of rifles, bicycles, several trucks, numerous boats and piles upon piles of fishing equipment. All at once, there it was -- my wonderful stuff all thrown in a pile as if it were worth nothing. I reached down and untangled my three fishing rods from the large pile. I removed my shirt and t-shirt. After putting my shirt back on I took my t-shirt and I began wiping down the three Daiwa rods and the three Ambassadeur reels. The tackle box was no where to be found. As the auction began I took my seat. In my wallet was twenty-seven dollars. For more than an hour I waited for my property to be brought to the auction block. "We have three identical rods and reels here. I guess we will sell this as a unit," said the auctioneer. "Fifty dollars," yelled someone in the crowd. "Fifty one dollars," yelled another man. I rose from my seat and I walked out of the auction. "Sixty dollars." "Sixty-five dollars." "Sixty-six dollars," I heard as the bidding continued. "One hundred dollars," came another bid. The auction became silent. "One hundred dollars once, one hundred dollars twice, one hundred dollars three times. Sold for one hundred dollars," went the auctioneer. I walked to my truck, got in and placed my head forward onto the steering wheel and just sat there. I jumped as I heard something hit the side of my truck. I turned around and saw the back of a man putting my three rods and reels, and my tackle box into the back of my truck. When he turned around I saw it was the same Game Warden who had written me the ticket almost a year ago. As I got out of the truck he stuck out his hand and said, "I wasn't wrong. It's the law that is wrong." I shook his hand, thanked him and drove away with memories in tow. I cried as I crossed the South Carolina-Georgia state line. -- Roger Dean Kiser ___________________________________________ You can visit Roger's wonderful website at: http://rogerdeankiser.com/index.htm ========================================================== .'"'. ___,,,___ .'``. : (\ `."'"``` ```"'"-' /) ; : \ `./ .' `. :.' / _ _ \ | 0} {0 | | / \ | | / \ | | / \ | \ | .-. | / `. | . . / \ . . | .' jgs `-._\.'.( ).'./_.-' `\' `._.' The ranger was so intent on telling the hikers about the flowers and animals that he considered the messages on his two-way radio distracting, so he switched it off. Nearing the tower, the group was met by a nearly breathless lookout, who asked the ranger why he hadn't responded to the messages on his radio. A grizzly bear had been spotted stalking the group, and the authorities were trying to warn them of the danger. Is your "radio" turned off when it comes to God? I had been told many things about the ocean, but none of them were anything like what I experienced. The sound was bigger than life, the smell was incredibly fresh, and the feel of the sand under my feet was the most therapeutic thing I believe I have ever encountered in my life. I was completely unaware of the sharp shells under my feet I forgot all about worrying about Jelly Fish, and I was more in love with my boyfriend than ever before. At night when I sat quietly on the deck of our hotel room over looking the ocean I was captured in the wonderment of the music coming from the ocean's waves, and the best part of it all was that I found God in a whole new way. It was like being introduced for the first time all over again, but better. I've decided that I'll one day live at the ocean, I've suddenly over come my fear of bad storms and all I can think of, is how peaceful it was to fall asleep by the sound of the waves. Now, do you know what you've just read? Did you notice things left out of the descriptions of the ocean? Well, you have just read the description of the experience of a blind person's first trip to the ocean. Even if we've had a revelation, or realization, it's no good, if we've forgotten we've had it. Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading from his old worn-out Bible. His grandson who wanted to be just like him tried to imitate him in any way he could. One day the grandson asked, "Papa, I try to read the Bible just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bible do?" The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and said, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water." The boy did as he was told, even though all the water leaked out before he could get back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You will have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it as impossible to carry water in a basket," and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water You can do this. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got far at all. The boy scooped the water and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather, the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, "See Papa, its useless!" "So you think it is useless?" the old man said. "Look at the basket." The boy looked at the basket and for the first time he realized that the basket looked different. Instead of a dirty old coal basket, it was clean. "Son, that's what happens when you read the Bible. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, it will change you from the inside out." That is the work of God in our lives. Mazzella There is a delightful, old story that always brings a smile to my face. One day a man was walking down the street and saw his friend crawling around on his hands and knees looking for something. The man asks his friend what he is looking for on the ground. His friend says, "I lost my key." The man feels sorry for his friend and gets down to help look for it. After a long time of looking without success the man asks his friend where he was standing when he lost his key. The friend replies, "Oh, I lost it in my house." Outraged by this the man asks why they are looking on the street then. His friend says, "Because there is more light here." As funny as that sounds it is the way a lot of people think. They want to know the purpose of their lives. They want to figure out the secret to their own happiness. They want to find the key to living a loving and joyous life. Yet, they look everywhere except inside of themselves. Perhaps they think it is too dark and frightening to look within for these answers. They keep looking on the outside instead because they think the light is better there. The truth is if they were willing to look within they would find a light far brighter and more illuminating than any on the outside. They would find the glorious glow of their own souls that have been patiently waiting for their arrival. They would find the love of God that lights up the world and the light of their own love as well. They would find a beautiful fire that would warm their hearts and that they could give to everyone everywhere. Don't be afraid to look on the inside. The light on the outside is nowhere near as magnificent and golden as the loving light that shines from your own soul. God's loving light lives within each of us. That is the light you should seek. That is the light that will guide you to a joyous life and that is the light that you should share with the whole world. -<>- >Links for Your Enjoyment :) Straying From The Light http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/straying.html Stretching For The Lord http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/BibleStudy/stretching.html Lighthouses Of The World http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/lighthouses.html Limos In US History http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/limos.html Longleat's Monkey Shines http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/meals.html Northern Lights Over Teepees http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/teepees.html Underwater River in Mexico http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/underriver.html Wieliczka Salt Mine http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/saltmine.html Earth In Perspective http://www.shangralafamilyfun.com/earth.html -<>- >From Our Friend KarenF :) These kids are awesome. He was my senior school music teacher in the late 60s and early 70s, when I attended school in Essex, UK, outside of London. Mr Howarth had a very bad cleft palate, and when he was born in the 1920s the corrective surgery we now take for granted wasn't available. As a result, his speech was badly affected. Did this impact his teaching, with children constantly asking him to repeat things and mocking him behind his back? Not at all. His love of music and energetic baton work enthused everyone he taught. The orchestra tried not to giggle whilst following his expressive direction. He encouraged even the most non-musical of students. His love of music was so infectious he got many pupils to join the choir, band, and orchestra -- though they would never have thought of joining on their own. He showed by example the best way to overcome a handicap -- carry on regardless, and rise above it. He had trouble remembering pupil names, so if he didn't know your name he had a solution. He called all the boys "Archibald" and all the girls "Alice." It made for hilarious lessons when he shouted, "Archibald! Pay attention!" with his pronounced lisp, even though the child in question had no idea the remark was aimed at him. Once we rehearsed for a school concert on a stage made of hollow moveable blocks, a school staple in the UK. There were a lot of solo acts and choir performances in between the orchestral and band pieces, so there was a lot of pupil movement on the temporary stage. Mr Howarth was insistent that we didn't jump up and down on the blocks as it could be dangerous. He was not a small man and he made the mistake of demonstrating what we were not to do. One of his energetic jumps resulted in him going through the block, up to his thighs in broken wood. Luckily, apart from bruising his dignity (and probably his legs) he was unhurt. Mr Howarth was so loved that when he retired in the 80s, after over 40 years of teaching, many former pupils returned for a surprise farewell concert in his honour. He was moved to tears when he realised he had affected so many generations of pupils. We played all his favourite pieces, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house when we played "Land of Hope and Glory", a rousing tune well known in the UK. I had many good teachers, but Mr Howarth was head and shoulders above the rest, and will always be an inspiration to me. I feel privileged to have known and been taught by him. =======HeroicStories======= >-->From Kidwarmers: There's a hair in the bathroom! ____________ _| |_ \ | / O * maytag \ / | | \ \ | |____________| |_|_))))___|_| \ | | ____________ || ( oo | //// | || ||| \-/ | (\\\) | || ]||| /(~)\ | ___ \_/ | /\ ____ || ||| ( ( )) | /___// \\ | [| ||Tide|||____________||| ~//\\ | |####|__/ | __|__||____||______________||____(_)(_)____|__|####|||__| |####|||jro\ (_)_) >THE FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY The other night James and his children were at the laundromat and James' middle son Brian came running out of the bathroom yelling, "Dad, there's a hair in the bathroom!" When Melody's best friend's father died recently they attended a Catholic Rosary for him. Melody's family was very attached to this man and her children referred to him as Grandpa. Melody's daughter, Erin, 10, not being raised in the Catholic church, was sitting at the aisle. As the ceremony began, Erin had turned back and watched with awe as an elderly priest, dressed in his customary robes proceeded down the aisle. When he passed by, Erin turned to Melody with the widest eyes and whispered with excitement, "Mommy, Grandpa must have been a really important man 'cuz' the Pope is here!" -- Melody Smith of Moorpark, California Sherri babysits for Jordan, 5, and Jonah, 3. On the weekend their mom made sauce for dinner and put cooking sherry in the sauce. At the table she remarked to her husband, "Maybe I shouldn't let the boys have the sauce, I put sherry in it." The boys got quite upset and cried, "You put Sherri in the sauce? Did you cut her up?" -- Sherri Winther of Huntington Station, New York Madison's child and her child's friend were playing in a tree in the front yard when Madison overheard this conversation: "I'm stuck!" His grandson replied, "Hey, Grandpa, when is the funeral? And do I need to wear a yechy suit and bring flowers?" -- Tom Hakes of Fort Wayne, Indiana Here's another story from Tom. His son Aaron overheard Tom and his cousin talking about how trees and shrubs have a life of their own by growing, blooming, and helping the air, and how they can also produce many other wonders, food, nutrition, oxygen, etc. Aaron, a special education student, said, "If they do all this, can I go play with them now and walk and talk to them?" He then walked up to the tulip tree behind Tom and said, "What's your name? I am Aaron. Can you give me some of your Oxydol soap to wash and can you share your cereal, and can we hold hands and walk and play?" Several years ago Bob and Ruthie went to Chicago and took their 4- year-old granddaughter, Adrienne, with them. They all had a wonderful time and were amazed at how good Adrienne was since she had never been away from home without her siblings. On the way home they missed a turn and had to pull over and check the map. Adrienne immediately said, "I just want to know one thing ? if ya'll don't know how to get me back home, why did we go?" -- Ruthie Garvin of Humboldt, Tennessee __ __ ,-' `' \ _---``-- / _ _ ; __ `. / / `' \; /`----- ) / .-/ ,( ), \-. ; | \( \ / )/; | - _5 `7 -; / ( ___-' `-____ | ( ___`-_ \ ____| \ / `,/ \ _(\__ / \ \ ; \ .' /' `i. / | | \ _-'( _\__-/ `- | | ` ,` `_ | BP Weston, grandson of Kas, just started kindergarten. His mom was concerned about his behavior, as he had had his share of problems. After the third day his mom asked him what happened to the kids when they don't behave. Weston said they either have to sit with their heads down on the desk or go see the principal. She asked him if he had had to do either one. He said, "No, it's just not worth it!" -- Kas Quimby of Elma, Washington "I don't write about grandchildren any more. Now it is great and great-great grandchildren!" writes Viola Trittipo of Albion, Indiana. Thanks so much, Viola, for sending the following stories: One day when Seth was about 4 he was riding with his mother and grandmother when the ladies decided to stop and get something to eat. But they couldn't decide where. Of course, Seth said McDonald's. But his mother said she didn't feel like fast food. Pretty soon a voice came from the back seat, "But, Mom, you can eat it slow!" Seth's folks have moved quite a long way from Viola's place and she doesn't get to see him often. They came to visit after being gone about six months and Viola remarked about tall Seth had become. "I think you have grown a foot since I last saw you!" Viola said. Seth looked himself over and said, "Nope, I only just have two!" ."`". .-./ _=_ \.-. { (,(oYo),) }} {{ | " |} } { { \(---)/ }} {{ }'-=-'{ } } { { }._:_.{ }} {{ } -:- { } } jgs {_{ }`===`{ _} ((((\) (/)))) Here's one about Ataiya, Viola's great-great granddaughter. Ataiya was riding in the car with her grandmother and Viola. They passed a big pink gorilla balloon which was being used for advertising and they all remarked about it. Ataiya commented, "I like that big girl-rilla but do they have boy-rillas, too?" A few months ago Eileen was hospitalized with aterial fibrillation, which is a condition that causes the heart to race. When Eileen came home the next day, her 5-year-old granddaughter came over and asked if her heart was still "blinking." She said, "You know Nanny, if your heart stops blinking you will die." -- Eileen Upshaw of San Antonio, Texas Here is another one from Eileen. It was the beginning of Kristin's second year of T-ball and Eileen went with her to practice. Kristin had always been very excited when it was time for a game or practice and was quite good at it, except on this particular day she had been less than enthusiastic. Eileen asked her if she was feeling alright, and she said "yes." Eileen then asked her what was wrong because she knew that she could have done better. Kristin replied, "Well, Nanny, my head knows what to do, but my legs just won't listen" ========================================================== _..._ .~ `~. / } \ _.'`~~/ {_,} -( ,'-,___.' .-. / |_ /| __| |__ / ` |_/ [__ __] / \ / | | / '--;_ | | _\ `\ | | / |`-.___. / | | ^^^jgs^^^`--`------'`--`^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >-->GOD'S WILL FOR US Just to be tender, just to be true; Just to be glad the whole day through; Just to be merciful, just to be mild; Just to be trustful as a child; Just to be gentle and kind and sweet; Just to be helpful with willing feet; Just to be cheery when things go wrong; Just to drive sadness away with a song; Whether the hour is dark or bright; Just to be loyal to God and right; Just to believe that God knows best; Just in His promise ever to rest; Just to let love be our daily key; This is God's will, for you and me. ~Author Unknown~ 3 John 1 [2] Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. >Updated FUN STUFF URLS - Oh Yeah Shangy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.ShangralaFamilyFun.com/urls.html FUN URLS ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -->BECOMING A CHRISTIAN HOW TO BE A CHRISTIAN! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -->FULL LENGTH - FREE On line AUDIO MP3 Christian Foundational Class http://www.truthortradition.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=61 NEW LIFE IN CHRIST! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -->This is for all you who love food and DARE to make it at home Yep.
