>-------> 1957 CHRISTMAS CHERRIES <-------< 1/2 Cup shortening 1/4 Cup sugar 1 egg separated 1 T. grated orange rind 1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 T. lemon juice 1 Cup sifted cake flour 3/4 Cup chopped walnuts 6 candied cherries In a Large Bowl cream shortening until light and fluffy. Gradually Add sugar and cream well. Add beaten egg yolk, orange and lemon rind, vanilla, and lemon juice. Mix. Add flour and mix well. Chill in refrigerator 2-3 hours. Roll into 1/2 inch balls. roll in slighten beaten egg white, then in chopped walnuts. Place on greased cooky sheets and press a small piece of cherry into each. Bake in 350F oven for 20 minutes.
