>-------> 1957 G I N G E R B R E A D M E N <-------< 2/3 Cup shortening 1/2 Cup sugar 3/4 Cup unsulphured molasses 1 egg 3 Cups flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg Raisins In a Large Bowl cream shortening, sugar, molasses and egg together. Add all dry ingredients and mix well. Chill Dough for 2 hours. Roll dough 1/3 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut with 6 inch gingerbread man cooky cutter. Place on ungreased cooky sheets. PRESS in pieces of raisins for eyes, mouth, and buttons. Bake in 375F oven for 10 minutes. LET COOL 2 minutes before removing to cake rack. Makes 12 Gingerbread men. Decorate with ornamental frosting. -- ORNAMENTAL FROSTING -- 1 1/4 Cups Confectioners sugar 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar 1 egg white 1/4 tsp. vanilla Sift sugar and cream of tartar together.
