SHANGRALA'S

AMAZING ALBINO ANIMALS!

Albino animals are rare, but this marine mammal is the world's only known albino 'pink' Bottlenose dolphin. Some say, he's just tickled pink about it!
This extremely rare and beautiful 'pink dolphin' was first spotted and photographed by Captain Erik Rue of Calcasieu Charter Service on June 24th, 2007 during a fishing trip on Calcasieu Lake south of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Here is a picture he took of him then...

While our pink friend is extrememly rare, Twin Albino Deer run a close second. The photographer writes, 'During the summer of 2006 a normal brown whitetail doe brought her twin albino fawns to my back yard to eat from my bird feeders. That's when I started video taping the twins. I noticed one deer had 'nubs' on it's head meaning he's a buck. Today these rare albinos are nearly two years old and still coming to my yard to eat!'

Albino deer are as rare as gold. These deer, albino whitetails, are quite rare. Only one deer in 100,000 is born this way, say biologists. Chances of seeing one in the wild are very low.

So rare are albino deer that generations of American Indians thought them to be magical. The Indians had no way of knowing that all living things have cells, and within those cells are chromosomes and genes. Genes are what make us unique. Albino deer have recessive genes. Both parents must carry the gene to have an albino fawn.

Another reason albino deer are so scarce is that few survive to become adults. Unlike normal fawns born tan-colored with spots that help conceal them, all-white albino deer stand out in the woods. They are easily caught and eaten by predators. Albino whitetails also have poor eyesight, which further reduces their chance of survival.
