Here Are Some For Your Viewing Pleasure. Enjoy :)
A manhole cover in Matsumoto, Nagano featuring temari (Japanese hand ball). Temari were play toys made from cloth scraps, but eventually these decorative balls became an art form--they are now a prized handicraft.
A Nara manhole cover. The sika deer is a prominent feature here as Nara is known for such things.
Horyu-ji: Manhole Cover. There are what appears to be autumn leaves next to Horyu-ji.
"Otsu 100" under it. Since 1998 was the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of Otsu as a city.
A rather rare Kobe manhole cover featuring the Port Tower, a prominent landmark.
Chuo-ku Manhole Cover. Osaka Castle and sakura (the official tree of Osaka) petals decorate this Chuo-ku variation. Chuo-ku is one of Osaka's 24 wards.
A nicely designed Yokohama manhole cover complete with symbolic bridge.
Nagano City, Nagano. Fire service manhole covers vary almost as greatly as the regular manhole covers. The Nagano-shi symbol is to the left of the fire fighter.
Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Fire Service Cover. This could be called a fire hydrant for lack of a better word. It is a cover for a fire emergency water valve.
An Odawara, Kanagawa variation of the fire service/water valve cover. |
