Shri
Swaminarayan
Mandir!
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a Hindu temple complex located in the
City of Chino Hills, in southwestern San Bernardino County of southern
California. The word Mandir means a house of prayer and worship for God
of faith. The Hindu mandir temple is open to all faiths.
The Temple is one of the biggest Hindu temples in the US. Built at a colossal cost of $100 million and designed to last 1,000 years, it has become a major attraction for its grandeur and architecture. It's constructed from 35,000 pieces of meticulously hand carved Italian Carrara marble and Indian Pink Sandstone. The temple encompasses five pinnacles, two large domes, four balconies, 122 pillars and 129 archways. The mandir is located on a twenty acre site, complete with a ninety one foot lotus-shaped reflection pond, a cultural center, gymnasium and classrooms. Approximately 900 volunteers, including many second-generation Indian-Americans, volunteered approximately 1.3 million man hours to construct the Mandir. The complex was completed in 2012 and is the first earthquake-proof Mandir in the world. |
