Welcome! Come on in!. Meet Caplin Rous, a capybara, the largest
species of rodent in the world and closely related to the guinea pig.
Caplin is owned by Melanie Typaldos.
The capybara, Hydrochoerus Hydrochaeris, is a
semi-aquatic rodent of South America.
It weighs about a hundred pounds, and is about
2 feet tall at the shoulder.
Melanie says "You can walk a capybara but they are very slow.
We go for long walks but by that I mean a long time not a long
distance. Personality-wise they are something like a dog and
something like a cat. They'll do tricks but only if there's
something in it for them. Capybaras eat mainly grass which you cannot
get at a grocery store. They also eat fruits and some vegetables
but grass or at least hay is essential."
Here are photos of Caplin at home in Texas! Enjoy! :)
