SHANGRALA'S

PRETTY IN PINK!

Some of the most beautiful animals in the world are pink! We found some strange and exquisite ones to share. Enjoy! :)
Shangrala's Pretty In Pink
Axolotl - the most charming salamander in all of the salamander world. The pink Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum), also known as the Mexican walking fish, is not only a ridiculously cute amphibian, but they never undergo metamorphosis and thus stay in larval form their entire lives. They also have super healing powers that allow them to regenerate their limbs.

Sea Anemone - is named after the showy terrestrial flower. It comes in a rainbow of dazzling colors with pink being the loveliest. The vibrant color of it depends on if their host is a coral or sponge. This creature that's related to coral and jellyfish is more than just pretty in pink, they are carnivorous, can live to be 50 years old, and some of them can grow as large as 6 feet in width.

Pink Hairy Squat Lobsters - aren't really lobsters, but rather they are a group of 900 species of crabs in the Anomura Order. It is sometimes called a Fairy Crab for its delicate fanciful appearance. While it is tiny, only 1/2 inch long, it packs a visual punch, with its neon pinks and purples. Pink Squat Lobsters hang out with similarly colored Giant Barrel Sponges, for camouflage benefits, on rocky reefs in Bali and Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Amazon River Dolphin - is a pink skinned beauty, native to the freshwater Orinoco, Amazon, and Araguaia/Tocantins River systems of South America. Also known as the boutu, boto, or bufeo, this pink dolphin is the largest of all freshwater dolphins. The pink-toothed whale is the largest river dolphin species, reaching heights of over eight feet (2.43 m) and weighing over 400 pounds (181.4 kg).

The warm river waters make the dolphins' capillaries expand, causing them to become visible through their skin, much like when humans blush or flush. Iron content in the water adds to their pink beauty.
The IUCN classified Amazon River dolphins as endangered in 2018. Primary risks include using them as fish bait, fishing with explosives, and mining operations contaminating river water.

Web-footed Gecko - this little cutie lives in Namib Desert in southern Africa. The gecko's salmon-pink tinted translucent skin acts as camouflage as it scampers across the Namib's hot reddish sands. Interestingly, this gecko has no eyelids, and so it must lick its eyes in order to keep them from drying out.

Pink Robin - is a species of Australian Robin (Petroica rodinogaster) endemic to the temperate and tropical forests of southern Australia. Pink Robin males sport a bright pink chest, a white crown, and grey-black wings, while the females are a more neutral shade of grey-brown.

Roseate Spoonbill - is not a flamingo. You can find roseate spoonbills sifting through shallow waters with their spoon-shaped bills, catching their dinners along the Gulf Coast of the United States, along the coastlines south to Argentina.
Shangrala's Pretty In Pink
The Roseate Spoonbills' pretty pink feathers became all the rage in the 19th century for use in ladies' fans. This fashion statement all but wiped out this beautiful pink species. Now, thanks to conservation efforts, their population is once again on the rise.

Galah Cockatoo - also known as the rose-breasted cockatoo or pink-gray cockatoo, is a parrot native to Australia. These pink birds are remarkably social, frequently gathering in flocks containing 10 to 1,000 members. With a playful and social nature, galahs are adept at mimicking human speech and other sounds.

Major Mitchell's Cockatoo - lives in light woods and open grasslands in western and central Australia. The Major Mitchell's Cockatoo is a social bird, and is usually found in pairs. Sometimes they also hang out with the above Galahs and other indigenous species of pink cockatoo.

Shangrala's Pretty In Pink
Hopkins' Rose Nudibranch - is a vibrant pink species of sea slug that lives along the Pacific Coast, from Oregon to Baja, California. The name nudibranch comes from the Latin for 'naked gills.'
Shangrala's Pretty In Pink
The Hopkins' Rose Nudibranch species gets its pink coloring from a diet of pink bryozoan, tiny colonial marine animals. Their color ranges from pale powder puff blush to intense hot pink - some evolved as camouflage, and some as warning: Pink = Poison.

Flamingos - the most famous 'pretty in pink' animals of all. When flamingoes first hatch, they are a drab grey. They develop into glorious shades of peach and coral primarily because of their diet. The red and blue-green algae they eat is chock-full of beta carotene, which contains a reddish-orange pigment, and the mollusks and crustaceans flamingos favor also possess pigment-rich carotenoids.

If Flamingos romantic color and heart-shaped kisses aren't lovey-dovey enough, think about this: Although flamingoes group in flocks that can number in the hundreds of thousands, a flamingo picks a single mate and generally remains monogamous for life.
